    Hi could you please do a tutorial on some examples on how to practically apply scratching into mixing. For example best way to scratch in a kick drum, snare, and other sounds or samples in a mix, without getting too complicated. Thanks.

    Thanks for posting I been needing this ! My question is are these scratches possible if I use the right side of jogs to scratch ? I’m self taught, right handed and never used vinyl so my natural way of scratching was to use the right side but I know I’m supposed to scratch on the left

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  3 года назад

      I may do a video on this. I am left handed. The natural way you would think I would scratch is with my left hand on the jog/platter. But that is not what I do. I learned in a video a long time ago to force myself to scratch with my dominant hand on the crossfader, and weaker hand on the platter/wheel. This will not feel natural at first. You have to keep practicing. It took me two months of practicing every day to get it to the point where it feels right.
      The reason you want to do this, is because this will position your stronger hand on the crossfader, which can learn to cut faster, than if your weaker hand was on the fader. Now I have seen people do it the other way and successfully learn, but it actually takes them much much longer.

    • @dabaddestdj2010
      @dabaddestdj2010 3 года назад

      @@priyonjoni that makes sense...I also used to think that making fast cuts was a result of moving the jog back and forth faster but realized like you said it’s more in the crossfader so that makes sense and your right it’s like I gotta retrain my self it’s hilarious because now it’s like I suck at it but I know I gotta keep practicing! It’s hard not to just say f it and go back to scratching with my right hand the old way

    • @dabaddestdj2010
      @dabaddestdj2010 3 года назад

      But does it matter the side of the jog I scratch with, I understand the hand thing but as far as like when you scratch correctly on the left it’s in a forward motion but when I do it on the right side like I’m comfortable with it’s actually scratching the track backwards if that makes sense

  • @Ilham20993

    Why we always need to twitch this crossfader to make scratches ? It is easier to fix it in the middle of the crossfader so that we can only use scratch wheel, isn't it ?

    Question: is it important to have master tempo turned off when scratching vocal samples, bc i usually have it turned on cuz i dont like hearing the pitch bends when im beatmatching
    i was watching a carlos atentido video recently and he mentioned something about master tempo and scratching

    • @priyonjoni
      @priyonjoni  3 года назад +2

      Master Tempo aka Key Lock is only problem if you are using DVS. That is because the computer will have trouble deciding on the pitch when scratching a timecode record or signal.
      When using a controller or a CDJ in HID mode, there won’t be an issue, because the rotational commands are completely digital. There won’t be a pitch conflict.
      The way to know. If you are in INT mode, you will be fine.
      If you are in ABS or REL, you may experience the issue.
