      You are welcome Fernando! Glad it helped you! I use power air tools now, so it cuts my time at least by half. 1st Time always takes the longest to do this job. I bet you could do it in 4-5 hours the 2nd time now, just a thought. Well good luck to you. The cheapest quote for labor I believe I got was around $300 for this job, it’s been awhile... Cheers!!!

      FixIt $300 labor is a good deal the lowest I got was $500, so I decided to do it myself. With your instructions it made it a lot easier especially not having to drop the entire subframe. Thank you once again.

      Hello and Thank you. I tried the hands on video and it would have been over 1 hour long, so I cut it short. And yes, there will be a power steering fluid leak when you disconnect the hoses attached to the steering rack. Be sure to refill after the job is done. It may need 1-2 bottles of Honda Genuine Power Steering Fluid from Honda Dealerships. Costs about $9.50 per bottle.

    The way you listed the steps makes it dangerous, specifically step 10 (since you have to be directly underneath the car in middle of it and you have to hope that 1 front right subframe screw and joint screw holds the subframe). It is best to move step 10 to step 5.

      Thanks for the info, does the sub frame carry any part of the engine or transmission? from the video it looks like the sub frame can be removed relatively easily as the motor is still suspended

    • @ivanov568
      @ivanov568 3 года назад

      @@robertficek7586 no the subframe does not carry those parts but the bottom motor mount which is on the subframe does help support the engine (there are like 5 mounts total). Aside from that it mainly only carries the rack & pinion and it does obviously have other bolts that go through it such as the bottom motor mount, u joint, control arms, etc.

    Why did you change out your steering rack, and did it run straight after the install? My 07 salvage title honda fit pulls to the left. My mechanic said the EPS electric power steering rack is to blame after he started the car on his lift, and watched the rack steer left with no steering wheel input.. The EPS thinks the car is turning right and try's to steer left. After removing the fuse for the EPS, the car runs straight. Any idea what I can do, other than disabling the EPS, or replacing the rack? What senses if the car is running straight or not or in other words, is my issue the rack or EPS? Thanks.

    The high pressure and return hose were attached to the subframe. Lowering the subframe with a floor jack is not that hard. (Back heavy) Easier to access parts and remove rack. There are rubber rings that come with the new rack for the connector seal.

    • @fixit3879
      @fixit3879  5 лет назад +1

      I had that issue before replacing my Steering rack. After I replaced it the steering was soft and smooth. Now remember that on this model Honda Civic the steering is naturally soft and smooth and very responsive. Here are some possible causes for it being hard:
      - not enough steering fluid or too much of it.
      - Power steering pump may be going bad
      - power steering belt is old and worn out
      - steering rack is defective, old, or broken possibly
      It is hard to tell honestly. Is the power steering fluid level normal, is it clean?
      Let me know if it softens after driving for 20-30 miles. I hope it does. Thank you!
