Does anyone else find it weird that not having the souls like levelling system is considered new and refreshing according to the reviewer? Not being punished for death=Revolutionary concept
Demon Souls in 2009: It doesn’t hold your hand and punishes you for dying. So revolutionary! Grime: There is no punishment for death now. So revolutionary! Like just say you don’t like Souls-like games, don’t call it revolutionary to the genre when it’s just a standard action RPG.
Sure, but his whole point was that it was a souls like that didn't do that and managed to be just as hard without a death punishment system. And you insult Dark Souls by insinuating the only thing differentiating it from other standard RPGs is it's death system lol.

soulsvania. we are at the point where we remove the very game that is the actual source of this genre. even the -vania suffix is debatable in metroidvania.
What are you even on about m8? Games like this, Blasphemous, The Last Faith, Hollow Knight etc. are a melting pot of Metroid, Souls, and Castlevania. Each of those games have elements from each series in varying degrees.. If you can't see it, perhaps you need more experience either those series'
Not taking money after death - generous and profound design choice. Finally non-hardcore gamers can enjoy a souls-like. Dude, is there really nothing to say about the game that 45 seconds of a 6 minute video is about how it's souls-like but you don't lose money? This writing is so meaningless, like a kid at school forced to write about how he spent his summer vacation. So many beatiful words and lines just to say it's a metroidvania souls-like.
@@GeodudeSpitsFacts I’d argue that the tension of losing the currency you use for both leveling up and buying items when you die, and possibly losing that forever adds a lot of the weight that makes SoulsBorne games feel unique. Otherwise it’s just a hard metroidvainia
You lose your ardor. Which you can get back at your point of death. The more ardor you've acquired, the more damage you do. And you lose 50% of it when you die but can regain the rest. So as you die, you become weaker, which makes the boss you're dying against harder.
