I played Grime is 2023, and it is just amazing, despite the lack of fast travel. The fast travel didn't miff me too much, since I found all of the neuron paths pretty quickly, but it was a very difficult game. Every time I encountered a boss after the mothers, I continued thinking "This must be the hardest boss in the game." Then I get hit with Shapely Fidus, so then I think "Ok. That's over. The next boss has got to be easier." You can guess how that went with The Final Performance. I believe the main appeal of the game during the boss segments is slowly learning how a boss moves, what you can hit,, when you can parry, and when you can use some part of your toolkit to fuck 'em up quicker and quicker, until you inevitably beat it due to learning all of their moves. A boss only gets easier once you know what you can and can't parry. Very good metroidvania, 9/10 for me.
What? But there are 2 fast travels, the nervepasses, and the surrogate TP (this one I unlocked it at 40% of the game so it's not like its difficult you can access the area of the boss that gives it pretty early)

One of the best metroidvanias Ive ever played, such a good game. So many little details in the game. Even mechanics that they never tell you about but if you figure them out you can access new areas. Love that kind of stuff. Honestly right up there with Hollow Knight and Axiom verge.
For the final boss, when the two balls show, go to the side then dash to the center when the balls are up and pull the yellow one, it will hit the boss and you can attack as well. As for the shower, that's probably the best time to do massive damage, just pick the daggers as they have a 4 hit air combo and just stay in the middle pulling yourself up and combo twice
What was my favorite Metroidvania month game?.... *Giant green tittys*..... Probably the one with the maps in it. Was a fun "month" of Metroidvania! GRIME was a trip to playthrough blind, especially because in most Soulslike games, you arrive to the setting _after_ some apocalyptic event, whereas in GRIME, you literally ARE the apocalyptic event. The fact that all the former settlements you arrive to only become derelict and abandoned after you stomp through them only emphasizes this.
I wonder if Indeimaus is willing to play Iron tails when it comes out, a rat Metroidvania with a hint of dark souls and hollow knight game play, oh it's also narrated by Geralt of Rivia.
I felt like the platforming was executed very well. There is a clear way to traverse but it still takes skill to pull off. I didn't realize you could dash off ladders or ledges and then get another dash once u air-jump until a friend suggested I try it. That lad saved my life.
Thanks for reminding me of this game. It's really gorgeous and the themes and character designs are so cool and trippy. I figured it was probably one of those games I'd rather watch then rage and play. Thanks again for getting me into playing enders lillies which was an amazing game that I loved playing and was able to platinum
I just wished they would give the warp ability you get at the final boss way earlier, as it is such a pain not being able to do that and having to use the neverpasses all the time but still having to walk half a mile to get to where you want to be
I think I got the game because of you playing it, even though I was not interested in it because it seemed way too tough for me at the time. But I like the Art style and am slowly getting better at fighting and platforming. It was an exhausting journey so far, but I love the visuals and am way to invested to drop out now. The final Boss will probably take me days but I will suffer through that as well. Just glad to know it is meant to be that difficult and can still be tremendously enjoyed regardless.
So turns out I had a much harder time than I should have because my computer wasn´t handling the game well. I fixed it and got the DLC, and it´s so good. Go all play it.
Grime is actually my favourite Metroidvania since Blasphemous, to be honest. There is the big issue with how there's so many mechanics that people don't find out about that the game could really use to tell them to the player, since it can be an extremely fluid game if you know what you're doing, but I believe the game development are working on that very thing. There's also the lesser issue of balancing out the weapons since strength weapons are so detrimentally slow, even for their damage. But as someone who quite enjoys the platforming puzzles in metroidvanias, I really enjoy it. It's definitely not a game for those lacking in patience, though, as the game is quite time consuming and requires plenty of waiting and not going too fast [which can really fuck you up with some of the platform puzzles], but the game can be incredibly satisfying if you experiment enough to figure out all the things you can do. It's not flawless, but by god can it be fun.
You can say that again xD It took me dying 40 times to Misbegoten Amalgam (and watching a guide) to figure out you can actually *pull* bosses. The whole "dodge to remove burning spear" thing he mentioned? Yeah, finished the game without knowing its a thing . Considering I dont care much about this type of atmosphere Im actually mostly neutral tbh (Liked some parts and others felt like a huge chore)
I've bitten my n64 controller when playing diddy kong racing when trying to beat the octupus. I had braces at that time and one of the braces pieces broke off and also a deep brace scratch bite mark was visible in the controler.
After playing the game now, I can say they have made huge improvements from the base game, you should really check it out again after they release their final DLC, it hasn't been a painful experience for me but one of the best Metroidvanias I played. PS: As you said yourself, it was so painful to watch you do the full game with the starter weapon, mainly because its one of the worst ones in terms of scaling x)
Ironically, my favorite part of the game were the last ~3 areas where there were no enemies except bosses, and it was just about platforming, observing the beautiful scenery and listening to the amazing music. I feel like presentation and boss fights is what this game is really great at. The combat outside of the bosses (and as a result, the exploration in most areas) felt very frustrating to me.
just beat this game 30 mins ago and came back to finish the video. really enjoyed this game a lot. it's got quite a bit of jank and a lot of jumping puzzles but the boss fights and world building are top notch
Everyone go play the Game! It is awesome, and the devs are doing so much work with post launch updates^^ Also you can parry quite a lot of the projectiles Indeimaus does not parry here :D
He mostly doesn't pull the bosses either . Ignoring the pull makes half the bosses twice as hard (Misbegotten Amalgam with no pulls is freaking rough).
Yeah surprised he did the Mothers fight without parrying the projectiles. Saves you so much stamina (I know it's force bc physics reference but I can't not call it stamina) and the heal bits you get from the glowing projectiles are critical. Sure not the hardest fight but I had trouble with force management until I started doing that.
Grime is easily the most unique Soulsvania I’ve seen in a while. Has its rough patches, but its setting and mechanics seem like a massive breath of fresh air. That said, the weeb pixel one last episode was surprisingly good too.
Love it! Keep it up indiemouse, and hopefully you're well rested for the next grind, and would love to see you tackle the most motridvania, super mestroid!
I thought you'd like it more, it was a blast for me :D I'd still recommend everyone to play it (atleast try it out), even if you are not a masochist xD
Finished the game with all bosses -1 (missed the dear ) .Im not sure myself to be honest . I liked some of the fights but the atmosphere wasnt really my thing. For people that actually like it the game is great though. Im just not a fun of Soulslike games and its obviously was inspired (in part at least).
I absolutely adored this game. Been a while since a game took my attention so thoroughly. And man I was even getting chills in the later half of the game.
@@xMagnificuSx Game isn't hard when you know all mechanics (and those arent explained properly) . Missing even one makes a game harder times 10 . I didn't know you can pull bosses and died to Misbegotten Amalgam 40 times . Got him forth try when I came back knowing what to do
Yo indeimaus! Do you consider playing Grime 2 when it launches sometime this year(2024)? It would be fun to see you getting crushed for 226 times by the same boss again! Also when i first played Grime i used the keyboard, not a controller. Biggest mistake of my life. Playing a game with a keyboard is so much harder than if you play it with a controller. But still, Grime is a fun game! I can't wait for Grime 2!
It's interesting that you describe the platforming as clunky. I thought the controls were so tight that the platforming was no problem. And to be honest? This game never got as bad as white palace from HK. At least in this game the in the big platforming story section they give you infinite health.
I thought the delay on the double jump felt like crap but otherwise the platforming was fine. The combat mechanics are great though. Not sure I've played a metroidvania with better bosses.
I've always felt that the White Palace was not much of an issue when I played Hollow Knight. But then I hated moving the tiniest bit in Momodora, I think it's a case of different strokes for different folks.
The only clunkiness I noticed for the most part was when it won't let you slide down ladders, when you get stuck in a wall because of a dash, or when it won't let you drop down through a platform. Although the most common problems were never a big deal to fix.
Oh! I was so confused by the Kinship Ending achievement because I did not have that achievement but your ending was exactly the same as mine.. I forgot that when it first came out, achievements were bugged and if we wanted the achievement we had to go back to the top and I just forgot about it but you reminded me so thanks~ lol I have no idea how you go about it still though~ xD Hard to choose a favorite personally! I like them all for various reasons but I'd probably choose Ender Lilies, I really enjoyed the story in that one and I'm not usually a story person~
Just finished Grime, such and amazing game. Loved the challenge. Also the game just got an update were they fix some issues with the clunky platforming.
It went well, once you got the absorb mechanic down, it's fine. Though by the time you get it down to a T, you have enough traits that allow you to heal so much. Great story, great action and set pieces. The true ending really explains well what you are, and what your existence is all about. Sure you understand earlier, but the scale of it is only by the end. Loved it so much I actually 100% it
I love the style of this game, they arent afraid to experiment a bit and those backgrounds are GORGEOUS. Unfortunately I fucking hate platforms, even Hollow Knight and Blasphemous makes me want to get the noose ready
Same. With a few exceptions, usually older 2D games like Castlevania or the GBA Metroids. Even the "Classics" like Banjo Kazooie, Conker's Bad Fur Day and SM64 make me yearn for the sweet release of death.
@@vazazell5967 That's true. At that point, I'd have to say that someone should understand that maybe not all games are for them, which is okay. If you're terrible at platformers and don't enjoy them, they shouldn't change platformers to accommodate that type of person. The person should just choose a different type of game.
"This game is leaning more into the Souls-like than the Metroids or the Castlevanias" Interesting thing to say, because for a genre called Metroidvania, there sure aren't many games actually referencing Castlevania. They all call Metroid or Dark Souls their inspirations, but never Castlevania.
Because Castlevania was copying Metroid when they shifted to that format. "Metroidvania" was originally a term mocking them for doing so, kind of like when people say "Bayformers".
@@stevethepocket Honestly they should just shift to Metroid-like, or go with the more generic search action name. Too bad Metroidvania is so rooted by now.

sometimes i rly hope, that indeimaus realizes that he's one of the best entertainment youtubers out there
finally after finding your channel and speedrunning all of your videos over the weekend I can watch some new content. LETS GOOO
That was amazing, the visuals are some of the best I've seen in a video game. Thanks for showing this game to us Indei!
Last boss is actually an MMO raid boss lmao , with an add phase and everything
I felt like the platforming was executed very well. There is a clear way to traverse but it still takes skill to pull off. I didn't realize you could dash off ladders or ledges and then get another dash once u air-jump until a friend suggested I try it. That lad saved my life.
I remember the rock people sexy times trailer from a few months ago… glad to see it’s a cool looking Metroidvania. Another one to add to the backlog.
Another one!
Caveman build is always a go to for me in most games lol
Thanks for reminding me of this game. It's really gorgeous and the themes and character designs are so cool and trippy. I figured it was probably one of those games I'd rather watch then rage and play. Thanks again for getting me into playing enders lillies which was an amazing game that I loved playing and was able to platinum
I just wished they would give the warp ability you get at the final boss way earlier, as it is such a pain not being able to do that and having to use the neverpasses all the time but still having to walk half a mile to get to where you want to be
They changed it and now you can get it pretty early
27:32 lol that is amazingly nostalgic. At first I was like "holy shit I remember that" then I had to look it up so I could keep hearing it.
I understand RPGs are way too long for this format but everytime I hear some FFIX music in your videos I want to see you play the game.
I feel exactly the same, I loved the shit out of this game
You can say that again xD It took me dying 40 times to Misbegoten Amalgam (and watching a guide) to figure out you can actually *pull* bosses. The whole "dodge to remove burning spear" thing he mentioned? Yeah, finished the game without knowing its a thing . Considering I dont care much about this type of atmosphere Im actually mostly neutral tbh (Liked some parts and others felt like a huge chore)
Agreed. Game can be so fluid and the art direction and world building is gorgeous.
23:06 I actually hate when games do this. New abilities should feel like a gift, not like a chore.
just beat this game 30 mins ago and came back to finish the video. really enjoyed this game a lot. it's got quite a bit of jank and a lot of jumping puzzles but the boss fights and world building are top notch
"heeeee has another full healthbar"
I felt this, a lot
the voiceover when dying is what earned you a subscription, i'm glad the youtube algorythm recomended tormented souls previously :D
Everyone go play the Game! It is awesome, and the devs are doing so much work with post launch updates^^
Also you can parry quite a lot of the projectiles Indeimaus does not parry here :D

"It's also the closest thing we're gonna get to playing Silksong for the next 10 years"
Honestly true tbh, and that's the saddest thing
Grime is easily the most unique Soulsvania I’ve seen in a while. Has its rough patches, but its setting and mechanics seem like a massive breath of fresh air.
That said, the weeb pixel one last episode was surprisingly good too.
Love it! Keep it up indiemouse, and hopefully you're well rested for the next grind, and would love to see you tackle the most motridvania, super mestroid!
I thought you'd like it more, it was a blast for me :D I'd still recommend everyone to play it (atleast try it out), even if you are not a masochist xD
Same. It is a more difficult game that usual, for sure, but it wasn't THAT bad for me.
This game is waaayyyy easier than hollow knight. I really don't understand the frustrations so many people have.
@@EpixGaminginc I don't think the white palace is too bad either, but it certainly is harder than any platforming challenge in Grime.
The only clunkiness I noticed for the most part was when it won't let you slide down ladders, when you get stuck in a wall because of a dash, or when it won't let you drop down through a platform. Although the most common problems were never a big deal to fix.
White palace wasn’t even that bad unless you took the path of pain… worst 3 hours of my fucking life
0:24 My contoller legit has bitemarks on it lmao
It is quite hard, glad they didn't make the dreamrot armor a required achievement
I love this game.
It is like everyone i want in a game, and I never thought i could like something more than ruiner.
Dude... one of the BEST/ENTERTAINING REVIEWS/WALKTHROUGHS I've ever experienced.. lmao!!! I'm gonna watch it again... eventually.
Oh! I was so confused by the Kinship Ending achievement because I did not have that achievement but your ending was exactly the same as mine.. I forgot that when it first came out, achievements were bugged and if we wanted the achievement we had to go back to the top and I just forgot about it but you reminded me so thanks~ lol I have no idea how you go about it still though~ xD
Hard to choose a favorite personally! I like them all for various reasons but I'd probably choose Ender Lilies, I really enjoyed the story in that one and I'm not usually a story person~
Dude, your videos are really well made and I love your sense of humour. Subscribed!
Just finished Grime, such and amazing game. Loved the challenge.
Also the game just got an update were they fix some issues with the clunky platforming.
17:53 Guess he really threaded the needle right there :D
It went well, once you got the absorb mechanic down, it's fine. Though by the time you get it down to a T, you have enough traits that allow you to heal so much. Great story, great action and set pieces. The true ending really explains well what you are, and what your existence is all about. Sure you understand earlier, but the scale of it is only by the end.
Loved it so much I actually 100% it
24:37 has me dying omg that was a great edit indei lmao
Thank you inde for this birthday present of a video, I turn 24 today and am begrudgingly still alive... made it through another year... again
Happy birthday!
Congrats! Keep on keeping on bro
That was a surrealist's fever dream and I loved it.
HUGE mood. So many metroidvanias have beautiful art and music, but I can't play them b/c I can't stand platforming.
To be fair, walking through a level in a straight line would get old pretty quickly. lol
@@Blacksadify dying on the same laser or failing thesame puzzle gets old quicker
@@vazazell5967 That's true. At that point, I'd have to say that someone should understand that maybe not all games are for them, which is okay. If you're terrible at platformers and don't enjoy them, they shouldn't change platformers to accommodate that type of person. The person should just choose a different type of game.
From the thumbnail I thought this was Axiom Verge 2. Can’t wait to see what this is
These Metroidvanias are some of the most beautiful games I've seen and are simply spectacular to witness.
I'm getting so much done, now that I've replaced sleep with work 🤣🤣
I just started the video and I'm surprised about how you are talking about it. It isn't easy, but it isn't that hard either
8:47 made me laugh so hard I'm crying holy hell that was perfect.
um actually, it's pronounced amalgam, not amalgam.
oh yes, thank you
Considering how "grime" is this game I laughed my bloody ass off! You got a great sense of humor and this was a rocking video!
"This game is leaning more into the Souls-like than the Metroids or the Castlevanias"
Interesting thing to say, because for a genre called Metroidvania, there sure aren't many games actually referencing Castlevania.
Just wanted to let you know my kids love your voice work on Bluey. Keep up the good work.
Hey I just want to say that you need to play this game again because there are many new updates and content added. You can also call this second play through [GRIME Destroyed Me Again]. If you choose to do so.
maus. using superfast jellyfish during the merch plug was too meta for me. the layers of thought and comedy that goes into your work
I just discovered this channel today and I can’t describe how happy I am to have his entire library available for a binge watch. I love it.
I actually really loved this game, just played it on epic (was free) and they improved the QoL a lot (like the slow elevator). Watching your video on it now is really nice :)
I love this game. Indei, the platforming isn't that bad. Also, they have made a ton of QOL improvements since this video was released.
ROCK PEOPLE MAKING UP IN THE GALAXY
Me: Man...how humanity has changed....
I have been watching Indei for a while now and I was curious how long I've been subbed, turns out this was the FIRST channel I subbed to. 5 years ago.
thank you for your sacrifice mate it was MEGA POG!
I finally got around to playing Grime. What an awesome game, one of my favourite metroidvanias. The music is so good, I love how it perfectly conveys that yeah OK we might be the bad guy.
And now I can finally watch this video too!
6:58 lmao
"Was that your friend?"
(Rock Giant stomps it's own little friend trying to get you)
"Don't you dare attack me! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOO!!"
"You're a real jerk, let's just call it even.... KYAHHHHHHhh!!!!!!"
😂🤣😂🤣💀💀
Indie, you are a legend. Youre capacity to grind through these kinds of games is amazing, you do it so I dont have to.
Love your videos man I have rewatched so many of them
10:20 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooo
Lmfaoo those edits kill me!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
“Unless you hate yourself…”
Well. I know where some of today’s paycheque is going.
the yellow stone from shidra can be grapped and smashing on the boss ,for extra dmg ^^...you can heal with his adds , with the right loadout of your hunter traits (25% hp with your parries ,extra breath ,stuff like that )
I appreciate your usage of the crossing the knoll theme of FFIX when talking about the map.
