As a born KZN'er I grew up with Indian cuisine and Bunny Chows - curries altogether is and always will be my favourite choice of food. That is a perfectly prepared Bunny indeed, not too oily and I like the idea of using mashed potatoes as a thickener... Well done! 10/10 from me.
If one wishes to save time, I found that grating raw potato, peeled, preferably melters and adding during cooking serves as a great thickner. Instead of potatoes I sometimes use about half a can of Koo butter beans mashed in a bowl with half tsp paprika and add with the raw meat. I sense an improvement in taste and texture. But thats just me. Great recipe btw. Thanks for sharing.
Solvina you are a perfectionist. Your attention to detail is exceptional. Mashed potatoe in a bunny chow curry, the extra onions and tomatoes means... You leave no room for any shortfalls. I'm sure that everyone that watches this no matter how skilled or novice they are in the kitchen... Will definitely learn a lot from this recipe. Well done!!! You are a river of life teaming with knowledge and thanks fr sharing💖💖💖💖
I’m getting so emotional reading these beautiful comments. Thank you so much for your kind & sincere words 💜🌸💕 The best part about having our homemade bunny chow is indulging in that delicious mutton gravy & there’s definitely gravy for days. Thank you dear Raksha ❤️🌶
Tried your recipe and it was an absolute hit! It was SO Durban which I miss terribly, especially the curries. This was quintessential bunny chow that transported us from New Zealand to SA for a couple of hours and brought gushing comments from our guests. Thank you, Perima!
Thank you so much Laaiqah & you’re very welcome. It’s definitely different to my classic mutton curry but we love that endless supply of mutton gravy when we have our bunnies. Happy cooking 🌸💜
As a born and raised in Durban Indian, now living in Johannesburg, our curry recipes are pretty good😅. But when I cooked the curry using your recipe this past weekend, my family was blown away and so was I👌👌👌 The potato mash made such a difference and I loved adding the extra curry leaves at the end. So glad I came across your content and I look forward to trying more of your recipes ❤
Who would think that the simple bunny chow forged from colonial and racial struggles would evolve into something as tantalizing as Solinas presentation. You have further transformed the simple bunny into a visual eyewatering masterpiece, this without a doubt belongs on the upper trajectory of fine dining, excellent presentation....
Thank you Randy. Such deep, strong moving comments. This simple dish is our true mascot around the world 🌎 It sets our cuisine apart & represents history, humbleness & ingenuity. ❤️🌶
Fabulous video, thank you! I learnt a lot from your clear advice, particularly about timing, watching the oil content, and the adding of mashed potato to thicken.

Is this up to date potatoes and the mashed potatoes makes gravy thicker,, never knew this, I'm still trying to get the masala, I have been looking, it looks so delicious I'm going to try try and I will let you know, this is one of my favorite, and I sent your briyani recipe to my sister, she said it's wedding briyani, she raved about the taste and flavor, I'm so glad I found u, I have improved in my cooking like in a huge way,..... I am totally Indian, but a useless on.... Not for long but I will surprise my family quite soon, I'm cooking for 4 people
Cynthia you are doing amazingly 🥰 soon it will become second nature to you . Super chuffed you’re sister enjoyed the breyani, and I’ve received the same feedback every time... that it tastes just like wedding breyani 🥰 I’m just so glad that you are becoming more confident. You have the secret ingredient too, all that passion is so evident. Love Solina ❤️
Where in Pietermaritzburg can I get Nadia's everyday masala? I've made this bunny and it was absolutely devine. Thank you for all the tips. The roasted dhania is a game changer.
I'm born and bread in Durban and currently living in the USA (past 10 years). Bunny chow is my ABSOLUTE favourite and so keen to try this recipe. 1 questions - the everyday masala - is that the same as garam masala? I need to find ingredients I can get locally (in the US).
Wow 🤩 amazing to hear & one one my faves too. It’s a combination of spices not garam masala it includes chilli powder etc normally a masala mix works well too. You can try one of my other basic recipes as a guideline to help you make an awesome bunny chow 🥰
Thank you Yusuf, you can but don’t use that many tomatoes in chicken curry. Also cut your onions finely & cook with tomatoes properly before you add your chicken. You can decide if you want more green chili. If you’re using soft chicken not cornish then after you add your chicken , braise it for approx 15mins, then add pierced potatoes, so the curry can be ready together. Quantities of spices are similar to 1kg of chicken but you might need to add some boiling water, use your discretion for both. Happy cooking Yusuf ❤️🌶💫
