I have one in my 350z, but may look to get the latest one, I'm going to measure up to see how the 10" screen will sit, think it will stick out too far.
Sadly fitted all mine, wired the reverse camera goes to test it and no power on the unit getting a multi meter to check the wires but no clue what else to try. I have a 2008 freelander 2 I’ve used the red iso wiring for the back of the unit I don’t have the fibreoptics in mine as I only had the cubby hole before but cheers for the video
I have it, but the bluetooth phone cannot be commanded from the steering wheels on-off and volume buttons, and the sound does not go out by the main doors loudspeakers, only by the small amplifier of the dash board. Is that normal ?

I plugged it into the normal aux port on the centre console, but i removed it and hid it under the centre console.
I’ve connected my unit up this morning and it doesn’t power on, I’ll check beforehand (with my meter) but I’m guessing I need to take the 12v supply from the cigarette lighter in front of the handbrake and connect to the red wire going into the harness (which is what it looks like you have done in the video?) I’ll need to take the centre console out to run the aux wire anyway to link in the car speakers so I’ll take another look at it then - hopefully that’s all it is and I haven’t been sent a faulty unit.
Tried fitting mine today and the xtrons unit would not turn on, it has power going to the yellow wire but looks like you need power going to the red cable which the freelander doesn't use with having a canbus system. I'm going to try and pull the power from the cigarette lighter also and see if that works

Where abouts did you fit the power in the red cable from the cigarette socket? I was just going to fit it by the little socket end that goes into the xtrons unit
@@lukewingfield4717 I jumpered from the 12v supply on the cigarette lighter (using in line insulated crimps) and cut the red wire coming out of the male connector on the Xtrons harness (going into the back of the Xtrons unit) and used another crimp to join the wires onto the new extended wire from the cigarette lighter.
Can anyone tell me how to move apps onto the Home Screen? I’ve managed to move some off (right) onto other pages but I can’t move any from page 2 onto home.
I had this issue but if i remember right it was because the trim stopped me from moving to the edge of the screen, have you removed the trim and tried?

Steering wheel command connection?
My car is FL2 HSE version from 2008 and has some kind of unuseful Navigation screen, but I want to remove it and install this multimedia system.
It wont be possible with this unit, this is for a freelander 2 that has just a cubby hole.

Hi great video and the unit looks brilliant. I have a Hse with the "premium" audio system. Looks like the key differences are there's already a screen and centre speaker - is it a case of unplugging the existing screen and replacing the screen loom with the one provided? Does the factory centre speaker need to come out? sounds like it's higher quality than the one built into the xtron unit.
As far as im aware this is for freelanders with just the cubby hole, im not 100% if they do one for your model, maybe someone can help in answering that on here? I do remember seeing two models for the FL2, it would prob be best to contact Xtrons themselves to confirm, sorry Ive not been much help on that one.

I didn't understand where the aux cable was plugged in. Is there any plug slot behind original car sound?
The aux cable is plugged into the socket at the rear of the centre console, i removed mine and tucked it under the console so the cable isnt on show.

Hi ive got a fl2 2010 but its the E model not the HSE... Can i still fit one of these?
as far as I'm aware, this will fit the Freelander 2 that has the cubby hole above the radio unit, if yours has a Land Rover sat nav unit installed, this will not fit as it will have the fibre optic cable going to it.

Any place that installs in car entertainment should be able to fit this no problem.

@@carlpearce2252 i found them good, all depends on what you need it for, I needed a good satnav app, and amazon music to download all my music to, so for me it was very good. I found the radio not so good, and with the DAB antenna still found it poor, so for someone wanting it to listen to the radio probably not so good, i have used these for about 6 years now, still have one in my 350z.
Nice unit, looking at getting one for mine.. will it still work with my system, my car has the Alpine amplifier system in it... Also.. please tell me you can fit it straight :).. great video cheers

With the freelander xtrons unit you need to wire it up to the aux, there should be a lead that comes with it that plugs straight into the aux plug, then you select aux on the land rover headunit.
@@VarleyRebuilds so this is the only way to be connected to the speakers. To get plugged to the aux. That is not so good...! It should be somehow more easier than this. It destroys the car leaving an opened hole
@@tassost.4547 i think its the only xtrons unit that does it this way, the land rover head unit can be replaced as far as im aware with a double din unit, but the kit to do this is expensive as it needs to loop the fibre optic back, i removed the aux socket from the centre console and routed it under it, which leaves a hole but im sure it can be covered. It doesnt bother me as i needed it more for sat nav, and downloading music on amazon music.

I got terrified when I saw that jumble of cables and I’m now afraid to do this!
It isn't too bad to do, the wiring from memory was all straight forward apart from one wire that had to be unpinned and relocated in the connector, but not sure if that was normal when doing this kit on a freelander, however my 350z that I had to re-wire was a nightmare, i had to splice to looms together to make one.
Bought one of these a couple of months ago in order to get Spotify working. I had something similar in a Mondeo a couple of years back too. I'm slightly dissapointed with the fact that some important things don't work out of the box - not auto dimming the screen when switching the lights on is a MASSIVE frustration. All the speakers in the car seem to be using the front channel too (tested by using the supplied graphic equaliser). Do you have issues with these too?
One of the things which I do really like is sideloading the android auto apk - it's so much nicer to use than the range of launchers which seem to come with these things.
The auto dimming not working and steering wheel controls not working are the things that annoy me, other than that it does everything else i need it for.
Compare this to one I had in a Seat Leon about 4 ish years ago it's a lot better.
Have you had any trouble with the Xtrons unit since you've installed it? I've been told that Android units are faulty.
No, the DAB was an issue, but i found a better app and works spot on, but ive always been pretty happy with them.

My screen won't turn on, could I get some help on whether I'm installing it properly please, not sure if there is a wire I need to change over or not
I have replaced some audio units before where i've had to swap over some wires, if you have a multimeter you can see which wire on the car harness is the 12v feed when turning the car on and i'm sure you will also have a constant 12v, if you can find that, then see if the match up to the wiring diagram for the unit, this should be in the handbook or a sticker on the headunit itself.

Wouldn't buy another one, got one for my freelander 2, the one they sent was defective took me 4 months to get my money back, tried other sellers but they dont post to Scotland? and now Xtron wont let me buy another one:(
Can you use the dab radio and sat nav at the same time?
Not sure to be honest, I would imagine you can and the satnav voice comes on over the radio. I dont have the freelander anymore so I cant check for you.

Thank you for this great review. 3 questions if you don't mind.. can you tether your data from phone to the head unit using bluetooth instead of wifi (Some Chinese head units do this nicely), and did you plug the antenna into this unit or leave it in your stock radio? Lastly, do you know if the head unit is Android Auto compatible? Thank you again!
Hello, there is a tethering and hotspot setting, i havent used this, however when im next in the Freelander (possibly the weekend) I will give this a go, i did have the 4g dongle....until it was stolen.
The antenna remained in the stick headunit, so normal radio can be selected, the additional DAB antenna was plugged into the Xtrons unit itself.
At the moment I can't test android auto, the vehicle is in storage as the slave cyclinder has failed, I will try and test this when its running again. Thanks.

Can you fit these to a freelander 2 that's never had a satnav or do they just replace an existing satnav unit?
This is to fit into the cubby hole, so will only fit if you havent got satnav, I dont think this will work if your FL2 already has satnav.

Hello, i routed mine down the left hand side of the centre console, along the top of the passanger footwell, and up to the side of the dashboard, its tucked behind the dash end trim panel. GPS works well for me, i dont use Google maps for my satnav as I found it a bit slow.
What maps would you recommend using?
Is it same sound quality as original radio? That's my only thing about aftermarket radios they normally dont amplify the music as well as original radio
I havent noticed any difference, sounds all good to me, i left out the little speaker that comes with it because that sounded tinny, so just had so it plays from the normal speakers, the land rover xtrons unit comes with an additional speaker if you were unsure, and to use this unit you have to select AUX and it plugs into the 3.5mm jack point, think its the only xtrons unit that works in this way.

If you are using the xtrons unit for the Freelander 2 then yes, as the radio stays in and this fits in the cubby hole above you will have the original radio, this plugs into the aux socket so you would select aux on your radio to play audio through the car speakers, this unit also comes with its own speaker that will still play through if selecting radio on the land rover radio unit.

Hi do these units come with multiple USB’s in the back also is the dab built in or from a dongle?
If i remember right, there is wiring that plugs into the back and then goes to usb, i then purchased usb extension cables with a flush mount and put that in the centre console.
The DAB dongle needs to be purchased seperatley.
I have a few questions.
Did you program in the steering wheel controls? Can you change tracks on the XTrons using the factory steering wheel controls?
Did you use a reverse camera? If the unit is off or on stand-by, does it come on when you shift into reverse to enable the camera to be used?
Does it have to display some distracting flashy background thing when you are playing a track?
Does it auto mute the music when you receive a call?

I cant get the steering wheel controls to work, however as its plugged into the aux socket then the volume control works as part of the Land Rover system.
I dont have the camera, but they do sell a reverse camera.
The system switches off, i dont think it goes to standby as it doesnt cause a battery drain, but takes seconds to start up.
I dont understand the flashy question, do you mean random lines shapes depending on the track? If so, no it doesnt, i use amazon music and it displays the track being played or the play list, like any music app on your phone, it would display it as it would normally.
Yes it does mute the music when you get a call.

@@VarleyRebuilds Thanks that does help. Disappointed about the steering wheel controls not changing tracks. I have a 2007 Freelander 2 with the optional genuine Land Rover USB/IPod interface that also uses the AUX line. It changes tracks with the steering wheel controls. With the "flashy" bit I meant how many modern stereos (eg: Sony) display silly colourful twisting shape video type things when playing a track. I just find those annoying. Displaying the track info is fine. :)
@@thebnicho i see, no it doesnt display them, it will display the app that i am using, or the homescreen just like using an android phone.
Hi. Buddy I have just tried to install on of these units to my Freelander however it doesn’t power up I noticed the power lead you have is routed differently? Did you have to alter the black plug and play lead for your to work?
Not sure if you have managed to remedy the problem you had. I have just put one of these in the Mrs Freelander and had to take a live wire from the cig lighter closest to dash as the other is permanent live and join it to the red lead out of the new ISO harness where it splits off to feed power to the new unit PLEASE CUT THE RED COMPLETELY going into the old unit as it will short otherwise. hope this helps
I’m having problems with the video on RUclips. I hooked up my illumi wire to the hand break but I still get the sound but no video. What can I do to fix that please?
Does it work with handbrake on? Is there something in the settings to allow video while driving?

Nope, it has a GPS antenna that you put behind the dash, the satnav I used was a paid one and maps downloaded.

I installed this unit in my Freelander and I can’t get it to play through my system all I hear is the little speaker. I have the auxiliary wire going to the auxiliary port and no sound can you help me out?

Depends what you want it for, I only needed satnav and amazon music so I can download my music, so I was more than happy with it, the thing that lets it down is poor DAB, even with the dongle, the next one I get i'm going to find a better dab antenna and test it with that to see if i get better result.
I have my amazon music through my echo .. I suppose I wanted dab digital radio and a superior satnav with speed camera alert ..
@@karling9272 i think I have a satnav called sygic, which does voice, cameras and works very well, the radio/dab lets these units down, when i but another one for my 350z, i will look for a stonger DAB antenna.
I'm not sure if anyone has asked this already but, can you use VOICE COMMANDS for the GPS (Google Maps or Waze)? If I have to hand program destinations into the unit, I won't buy it.
I use the same satnav on my phone and it has voice commands, however next time im in my Land Rover I will give it a go and ler you know.

I don't have an iphone to test, however i'm sure you can still connect with bluetooth, and i'm sure you can mirror the phone onto the headunit itself.

Hi, so I bought the XTRONS 9.0 PA7935HIP, and i’ve been trying to find mechanics to install it but because the brand isn’t CE Certified, they don’t believe it’s safe in cars. How is your experience with XTRONS? I really love the one i bought
It's not safe? Well....it hasn't blown up and continues to work very well...just make sure who ever fits it uses the correct wiring and not crimp wiring together like the use to do when fitting head units.

Sadly they dont work on the freelander 2 without a Fiber Most Optic Loop Connector, spent ages installing it for it not to work.?
If yours has a screen already fitted then i dont think you can swap it with an axtrons without more parts like the optic loop, this is for a freelander that has only a cubby hole fitted.
@@VarleyRebuilds when I ordered it from Xtrons I gave them the cars details but it still came without the loop, so annoying.

There is no sound on the radio.
Would i be right in saying you have fitted this and cant get sound? If soz this unit for the freelander 2 pkugs into the 3.5mm jack aux socket, then you need to press aux on your land rover head unit.
I found a way to get sound without using the 3.5 mm jack. On the back of the xtrons main harness you will see rca red and white male ends just plug them into the female end on the small plug on back of xtrons screen and you will get sound without having to use the aux plug. Do this and select aux/cd on radio and get clear sound out of unit

Xtrons do universal double dins, not sure if they will fit a range rover, this unit is designed for the Freelander 2, as it has the brackets to fit it where the cubby compartment is. Brilliant systems, they are getting better and better.

I believe i already contacted the dealer about this car and they said it does not. My question. Is since it has a display window can it be upgraded to be modern with navigation back up camera etc? @@mayday2312 it's not a model i've ever worked on, but looking on google the screen has a fibre optic MOST cable plugged in the back, so if this is disconnected the whole MOST system will not operate, the screen only looks a couple of inches thick, and usually double din units are a lot deeper so the Volvo may not even be able to fit this in without some cutting into the dash, this is all a guess just by looking on google images, but saying the above i would say the stock system is something that is there to stay unless Volvo themselves offer infotainment upgrades like the ones in this link, hope that helps.

All I see is the easy bits. How or why does it have to be wired to original headunit.
If there is a high enough demand on how to actually wire this in, I don't mind taking it out again and showing how the wiring is done, from what I remember it was pretty much plug and play.
From my understanding, the original headunit stays in place because of the fibre optics cabling, however I have seen a it that replaces the original headunit, and the kit comes with the fascia and also a fibre optic loop connection, therefore headunit is bypassed and the circuit is still a loop. (I could be wrong on all that)
The process in replacing the headunit isn't too difficult, like I say it's pretty much plug and play. In my 350z for example, I had to cut two different looms and splice them together to make one so the amp can still be used in the BOSE system,, so it could be worse.

I didnt cover the wiring as it was plug and play, the only difference on the Freelander unit is 3.5mm jack lead plugs into the aux port, and you select aux to get sound to play through as an auxillary unit.

Awesome mate managed to get it all sorted now. Only thing is the nav doesn’t work at all, I have the GPS dongle but it’s just saying I’m offline, do you need to be connected to a WiFi source to use the sat nav I’m guessing? Thanks
Xtrons low quality, I bought more than 10 different devices, and they all broke down within a year, do not buy, there is no guarantee, the lowest quality in the whole world!
really? ive never had any issues with them, everyone has different experiences.
@@VarleyRebuilds 1 radio tape recorder burned out the screen, the second radio tape recorder burned out the processor, the ceiling TV constantly burns down the sound card I sent for repairs and they did it 1 time it was expensive for me to send broken goods every time, low quality high price there is no guarantee.

my first unit from XTRONS is s pf84mtva unit for a Vw Amarok, it worked fine, 2 years and a half. Now as that unit is not manufactured anymore there are no spare parts, so I bought a new unit with Android 9, i have no complaints so far. Just make sure it fits your car, as you may need to get specific brackets for it to fit or need to set the canbus in factory settings. I am very satisfied with my 2 units from XTRONS and would recommend it to anyone looking for affordable Android systems for your car!
Mercadies Lynnea omg thank you! i just bought the XTRONS 9.0 PA7935HIP unit for my hyundai tucson, and some mechanics say that XTRONS isn’t CE Certified so they won’t install it for me and now i’m scared that it might not be safe. It’s my first purchase

they may have an option with that system, not too sure, there is 2 options on xtrons website for the Freelander, but ask Xtrons themselves and they will be able to help.

These units do work if you've had the stock Land Rover sat nav installed, there is an extra step to close off the fibre optic loop with a 'shunt' (Land Rover part no is: LR019014 - cost around £15).
