- My experiences installing an Android Octa sp9853i (Android 8.1) head unit into my Freelander 2. Issues with reverse camera and sensors I am yet to resolve. Happy for any advice on the issue. Otherwise it's all good.
Cheers Brett for sharing this, pleased that you managed to bring it to life. We're looking to get the 13.6 inch screen but we have the HSE so it has the MOST fibre optic. I've also sent a message to Ian Horwood as his has the MOST system too.
I went to a recommended mechanic yesterday. To my surprise he drives my exact lr2 model. Same color and rims. He has this exact screen installed and working well in his car. I asked him to set one up for me but his pricing was really high. He also said he struggled with another with his technician before they finally got it to work. This is the reason I was looking around for the screen on RUclips.
I’ll see if I can get more information from him on where to buy and how to install next week. Whatever info I get, I’ll share here.
To answer the frequent questions. It came from Aliexpress originally. No I don't have a link, search "Freelander 2 Telsa" on there and you will find. The issue is still not resolved despite multiple attempts. The car has actually needed a few mechanical repairs lately and hence has been out of action. I'm thinking of giving up on this unit altogether as I'm not sure I want to waste any more time on it. :(
Hi Guys, just bought one from AliExpress (10.4') and delivered to Spain in 10 days.... No instructions whatsoever, and lots of cables in the box. I have a 2011 HSE and had a quick look at the existing cables etc, and all very confusing. I have a MOST cable connecter but cannot fathom out where it goes as there are 3 existing MOST connections between the 6 slot CD and the SatNav screen. I will start the physical installation tomorrow and post updates/issues as I progress... Wish me luck!
Well.....! After 3 days of installation (in and back out every day) I am back to the OEM kit... Unit sent without any installation instructions!! After my first attempt NO audio but I knew this was due to MOST cables being left unconnected. Also dead area on the right hand side of the touchscreen which meant I could NOT install application (or back space on the keyboard) as the button on that part of the screen would not function! Back to the supplier who said that they have an installation guide but in chinese! Sent this by app not available outside of China! Had second attempt as I worked out that the main CD changer should be retained (removed completely as I though redundant) which would help with the MOST fibres. However, the facia was left on as I did not know otherwise! Still no joy so removed again at the end of day 2. Installation guide sent by PDF (yes all in chinese) and downloaded this morning. Spent 2 hours translating what I could to english but had photos to shhow what needed to be done step by step (with more chinese on them!). So I had to take apart the CD changer facia and remove the electronic part and add to the new unit (once removed a metal plate from that). This allowed for the MOST connecter and emulated the hardware facia. I took out the old SatNav but still NO sound, worked out that the SatNav MOST fibre plug needed to be terminated as well (no cable supplied!). Put back the old SatNav screen and low and behold it all worked. Music, console control, etc.. I connected Bluetooth, all good. Connected WiFi, all good. Surfed the internet, and downloaded an APP, all good. However, big issue with touchscreen not working down the far righthand side (where all the back and OK button are located. Bottom line I have a hardware issue on the screen and a missing MOST fibre terminator (available on Amazon for a few quid). Back with the supplier who I will name in the next update... Fingers crossed but I am not hopeful.. expect to ask for refund and return... PS I also now have an 'English' (ish) installation guide!!

@@michelleaguirre1135 Hi. Unfortunately the unit that they sent was DOA with a dead part of the screen. Have had to get a refund as they were useless in helping to install and resolve the issues. However it did mean that I got to install and remove it four times so a lot of experience in the installation process and requirements. Suffice to say it will not be a quick conversation. May I suggest that you drop me an email and I will send you an installation guide and my thoughts. That is if you still wish to install the thing! I am disappointed that it did not work as it looks really good when installed.
@@ianhorwood3931 hi my screen works fine but i have intermittent sound. It says after reconnecting the original screen this solved the sound issue. Where did you put the original screen is there enough room to hide it behind the new tesla style unit? Thanks
Hi Brett, thanks for sharing the video. I have a Freelander 2 2014. I am looking to install an Apple CarPlay screen same as yours. Would you please help with steering wheel control buttons. Did you need to learn the buttons manually 1 by 1 or they paired directly from Canbus box system? Thank you in advance
Do the buttons work on the replacement front panel… park sensor/hazards/lock/unlock/(eco)
My rear amera works fine.. we can compare menu's configartions and perhaps solve our problems.
Looks like you gave up, but I'll make this note anyway. I've been playing with can bus on the freelander 2 for awhile, I note that there are 3 versions over the years, 2007 was very simple, changed with more IDs around 2010, and totally different again with even more IDs around 2013 for the last 2 years and "evoque" type electronics. They are not backward compatible. So for me unless this supports an option to select the car manufacture year it could be that it will never work on all 3 freelander versions. Did you see anything in the settings for car year? Or perhaps needs a flash upgrade to support the different can buss IDs.

All my problems seems to be related to default apps permissions. There are a lot of them (system and user processes) and I must to explore and modify all of them...
How did you get the sound to work? Does that year LR2 use fiber optic for the sound? I have a 2012 LR2 Freelander, and I have not been able to get any sound from my Tesla Style radio. I am using a fiber optic decoder but have had no luck in getting sound to work. All settings have been checked too. All functions work with the exception of sound. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Sound worked out of the box. My car did not have the fibre optics. Just normal speaker wires. Car is sold now, still have the head unit in a box.

What do you think about the similar radios that are on Ali express? Thinking in buying there, as it's now the only place where I can get it from... thanks for the video it looks like easy to install my self ..what do you think ?
Mine came from Aliexpress originally. I bought it second hand as a tested, working unit. Original seller has been less than helpful with data regarding the issues, but you may have a better experience. It is quite easy to install.

How good is the quality of the plastic material? Does it make any sound when you drive? what does the turning knobs on the side of the screen do? can they rotate or just there for aesthetic purpose?
The knobs on the sides control functions such as volume and seeking a new station. Quality seems pretty good but the colour of the plastic is not an exact match for the rest of the dashboard.
Hello, how is that the lock unloock and parking buttoms Now are down the panel it does not have to fit in the same position? Or the connection you did make them work down as it appear with the new one cover? I was about to buy it but saw this detail. I have the Freelander 2 2008 without the gps screen. Thx for the help.
The lock, unlock and hazard buttons work in their new locations. The loom plugs straight in.

I am getting desperate and I find no solution. How did you manage to make the sound work?
Sorry, no idea! Sound worked perfectly on mine.
In also have a sound issue. I have the blue box connected and i have looped all the other connections. If i leave the car for a few days the sound works. When i stop the car and restart it there is no sound. Leave it for a few days i have sound again??? Did you find a solution?

Can you provide a link to it please? Also, does the rear view camera work if you start the app manually ?
I don't have a link as I bought it second hand. (It was working ion the seller's car.) There is no app installed that will access the camera when not in reverse.

looks like you are missing one red wire to power up your camera and sensors.
@@michelleaguirre1135 The signal for the sensors and to let the head unit know the car is in reverse should be coming from the canbus system. I have tried supplying 12v direct to the three wires it could be (based on ISO colour codes) but that hasn't worked either. I may have a duff canbus unit.
The screen give warning ⚠️ in regard of fuel tank and doors any other warning
It gives doors open warning.

Hi J O, I am aware of the external PDC solution. This head unit is supposed to read the canbus signal to interpret the parking sensor signal (and activate the reverse camera) without the use of an external part. The previous owner had it working in his FL2. Apparently it won't work in mine. Replaced with the old Xonrich unit and original head unit and camera and sensors now working again. So it's definitely the head unit or canbus box that have issues. The display for doors open and suchlike works so it is reading canbus signals. Just not the reverse sensors signal.

Hi there... I had some problems with one of this thing (or similar). COntinuously backs to home page meking this device almost useless. Home and back button puts in blue color and start to blinking coming back to home screen stopping radio, navigator or whatever.
Ive touch everyhing!! but I cant solve this... even hidden menus... but this continues without working fine. I dont know if you can share some advanced settings...

Sorry, no idea on that one. Do you have a button jammed down on the fascia somewhere?
@@thebnicho No.. all buttons seem to be OK. I think this is a configuration problem. All this started with a car battery replacement. I suppose some configuration file was corrupted or something like that.
Can you kindly share with me screenshots of your advanced settings??
