- I've got a single malt scotch whisky from the Glen Scotia distillery in Campbeltown today. This is their special release for the 2023 Campbeltown Malts Festival. It's been lightly peated and finished in white port casks. I'll taste it and give you my thoughts. Cheers!

I think the annual Scotia Festival releases bat well above the average for the money. Had them all and enjoyed them, + I have an unopened bottle of each in my cupboard. Roll on 2024 ;)
Glen Scotia have some great whiskies and generally decent stuff enough to give them the benefit of the doubt when you try a so so expression
Informative review. Thanks. I have been complaining for years that Glen Scotia (Loch Lomond marketing) have been adding colouring. I'm glad to see that they are finally listening. Glen Scotia's market (as well as Loch Lomond) don't want the E150a. So what, that the colour varies from batch to batch. Which brings me onto my next comment. Consistency.
I actually applaud distilleries who are not fixated on batch consistency. Having been researching into cask practices in Scotland for over 30 years, I understand the effort that large distilleries go to, to try and match the exact cask types and number of casks from batch to batch and how you end up compromising on quality.
Distilleries such as Springbank, Bruichladdich, Benriach, Kilchoman and Glen Scotia, don't waist their time trying to get the exact flavour profile from batch to batch, and instead concentrate on making good whisky. IMO, we ought to embrace the differences from batch to batch. If you want consistency, stick to Diageo products.
Yeah, I never paid much attention to Glen Scotia because they add color to their whisky, so that natural color statement jumped out at me. I wish Lagavulin would stop that deceptive, dumbing-down practice as well.
My favorite whiskytuber and my favorite distillery. This just couldn’t go wrong.
Mate, this and the Bunna18 vid are you 2 best ones. Just keeps getting better. 🙌
Also I can’t believe you’re reviewing this now. I literally just bought it. Glad it came it out on top!
Haha good timing, eh. Enjoy my friend! 🥃
Finally, some more lightly peated Glen Scotia. I hope this sells well and they add at least one age stated lightly peated bottling to their core range.
Excellent review. A big Scotia fan here, for me the old Glen Scotia 15 version it's my absolute favourite, pure magic. This white Port its very nice though. Cheers!
The only white port cask finished whiskey I have tried is a bourbon. It is
Saints Alley Bourbon White Port and Cognac Cask. I very pleasant pour that does tastes different from other bourbon with a red port finish. So, based on your review and my tasting of the white port finished (I do admit the cognac cask finish also helps) I will try this Glen Scotia. Cheers.
4:40 -- Laphroaig did that recently with their Cairdeas release (white port and madeira, I believe). Definitely has interesting whiteness to it :))))))
Love that you kept the bloopers.
I don't know if we said on the staff meeting that it makes you "relatable" or replacab....yes definitely relatable , right (😂)🥃🥃
Loved this one and to be honest this sounds quite interesting. Might pick it up in the future. Cheers my friend! Nailed it like usual 😎🥃🥃
Lol hopefully the board members never vote to replace me. 😂
@@Gwhisky You are an irreplaceable unique gem in the whisky community my Friend 😄🥃🥃
Left a f***ing like for you mate.
Legend. ⬆️
Cheers! 🥃
I love Glen Scotia. The double cask is so good and my only bottle I’ve had from Glen Scotia.
not expensive and awesome, I agree.
Victoriana is superb
@@RobertSingleton-dw9yh That’s $90 near me. A little too steep for me right now.
@@numanuma20 Cool compadre keep it in mind
Hello Geoff,
You hit my sweet Spot with this Bottling.
I already have the second Bottle opened because the first one didnt last long enough to have it for your Review. 😂
For me its Glen Scotia at its very Best. Kind of dirty or funky as others may call it. Campbelltown as it should be.
Absolutely love it.
Thanks for sharing your Thoughts and Opinion about this Expression from my favourite Distillery.
Greetings from Germany 😎🤘
I put these guys up with other big distilleries like Loch Lomond. Inconsistent, but sometimes you stumble across an absolute banger.
Owned by Loch Lomond and excellent inconsistency from both!
I have a unopened bottle like this in my "Stach". I have to give it a try". Thanks for the review. Cheers
Great review! Btw got to taste Glencadams new line and they have a White Port cask finish in there, quite a nice one, my favorite of the bunch!
Nice! Never seen that one. Quite few Glencadams aren't sold here. Kind of regret not getting the 13 last year in Budapest. 🥃
Sounds interesting! What top shelf “Moorish” , salty, Umami style scotches do you recommend between £100-125?
Btw, bloopers are fun. Finely edited videos are the chill filtered and colored equivalent to the bottles. 😂
Great video and I loved the intro agreement
GS nice whisky , very like Campbeltown cross 56.8% .Good review Geoff ! Cheers !
Got to add this to my purchase list apparently. Would btw be interesting if someone made a video/top list of whiskies that have this intensity/umami aspect however you can describe it.. Searching youtube for umami + whisky brings only videos and reviews of blue label..
like my Glen Scotia Campbeltown Malt Festival 2021 10 year for $69.99
I love this release, it is just an awesome Glen Scotia 😍
Thanks Geoff, you've convinced me to include white labelled whisky in the shopping list.😅
Love this dram!
I've had two bottles of port finished single malts before, the Kavalan concertmaster and Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban. I did not like those two bottles, they're kind of "listeriney"(?). Kinda curious about the white port finish though and I do enjoy the 15 and Victoriana, yumz. 88 points huh. May stick my neck out yet.
" salty 11 year old " Bernard Manning in his pomp would not have got away with that ;-)
Loved the 8 yr so will try to grab this one, cheers Geoff.
Another great video Geoff. Love the bloopers. Cheers!
Best comedy value video so far Geoff, liked that addition at the start of the Value section ;) Great review too of course, will keep my eye out for this one...
Lol cheers buddy. 🥃
Cheers Geoff, an absolute banger of a release.
Agree. Thanks for watching! 🥃
Thanks for the video. Looks like a cool bottle. 🎉
Thanks for watching. Yeah it's a good one! 🥃
I prefer peated Glen Scotia. The 8 yr PX is still a favorite, but I’ve been pleased with the white port thus far. Cheers.
Millstone did a white port cask peated release in 2018, I'm still not sure if I like it😂
Just tried this for the first time at an event less than an hour ago. Interesting stuff indeed
Lucky enough to be in the UK and have these in my stash, which is for the years to come. These were bought when they were released. DOUBLE CASK RUM CASK FINISH £49
VICTORIANA £64
2022 CAMBLETOWN FESTIVAL 8 YEAR OLD £62
2023 CAMPLETOWN FESTIVAL 11 YEAR OLD £65
Managed to bag some bottles of the 2023 release at £52/bottle including shipping, an absolute steal.
Sounds interesting! I like white port on it's own but my experience with white port and peat have been really bad with last years Laphroaig Cairdeas. I don't know if you've tried it but something was definitely wrong with that bottle so I can't really imagine enjoying this so very much. Nevertheless, cheers 🥃
Haven't tried that Cairdeas yet but that's the only other whisky I can think of that's marketed with a white port influence. Can't speak to that one, but I think it works beautifully here. Cheers buddy!
Thanks for reviewing this long named release, Geoff.
Regarding Glen Scotia: love the bourbon matured I've tried so far. The rest is hardly interesting to me (as by now you may know). So have not tried this one... making this a regular useless comment.
Slàinte mhath
On one had, you're probably the most predictable commenter I get. On the other, I applaud your consistency. Lol. Cheers, my friend. Yeah this one isn't for you. 😂🥃
Cheers Sir, just a quick in & out for me, too wish you well in the future.
Very kind of you. Thanks for dropping in. All the best to you, too! 🥃
Cool. You made me want it.
And you made me want a top umami-e whiskies list.
Damn that's a good idea! 🥃
Geoff I can usually count on agreeing with you so I am eager to try to find and explore this Glen Scotia expression! I am excited! It sounds lovely! Fabulous video!! I am laughing about your 11 yo comment - cocky age for kiddos! I bet your niece adores her Uncle Geoff!! Lol!! Cheers!! 🙂
Lol my niece is actually a lovely little girl. Except for the times she isn't. 😂
Kidding, she's great. Cheers Christine. 🥃
@@Gwhisky Lol!! I was with my 11 yo great niece today! Adorbs! Being an aunt or an uncle is a lot of fun!! 🙂
Have you tried the festival release from 2021? Bordeaux red wine finish, unpeated. I just got a bottle of it on Friday. I was surprised to see it still on the shelf
I've had it. Good stuff!
@@Gwhiskyawesome, excited to try it! Currently crushing the last of my bottle of Craigellachie 13 I got on your recommendation 👌
Interesting whiteness 💀🤣 love the humour today!
How about reviewing something from Douglas Laing. Perhaps The Gauldrons cask strength?
Guys do you think gwhisky is going to review Port Charlotte 18 year old for us? 😊
I'm just getting my first Glen Scotia bottle today, the 1832! I think it might be a duty free exclusive, and it's 46% in a 1l. bottle. Not a lot of mentions of it online as far as I can see. Have you tried it?
I haven't, but I've heard it's good stuff!
@@Gwhisky If it is, it's interesting, as there aren't many reasonable >46% bottles at the duty free in my country.
Can't write my opinion here..coz never tried it
You should have waited and washed the dishes before doing this review. Every whiskey snob knows 69% of the tasting experience is the glassware. This channel is going to crap quickly.😊
Fair point, but I disagree with assertion that the channel hasn't always been crap.
