I picked up a bottle of this on Amazon for £100 when it was on a lightning sale. I love the complexity & depth of the flavour, but it is quite drying on the palate. If you're a fan of well aged whisky, you can't argue with the value it offers.
@@SaltyCuban If I were you, I'd try & find somewhere that sells both by the glass, & taste them. You're the only one who can decide which you prefer, & which offer the best value.
This really is an outstanding whisky. Picked it up in a 3-way bottle share with friends. My only regret is not having picked up a full bottle thereafter when I had the chance.
Damn you Sir, tempting me to break my bottle limit. I swore never to pay over £100 a bottle for whisky I intend to drink but this is so hard with the way the whisky prices are going. On a side note I received the 18 for christmas and it's a smasher, a firm 88 from me. Thanks for the video. As always, very entertaining.
I had this lined up to be my next purchase a few months back, but then Ralfy did this for his 1000th review and it disappeared from all retailers in my market. Still keeping an eye out for it
Hi Geoff, really nice review! Never had an AnCnoc before, but this review makes me really curious. Think I will try to get a sample to judge it. Thanks.
I appreciate your reviews and opinions, they have gone a long ways to helping me explore the wide world of whisky. Unfortunately for me, this particular bottle is $300cdn, so I'll wait for the lotto gods to bless me before I try it. On a slightly different tangent, you made a vid concerning things that drive whisky snobs crazy which I found quite entertaining. Considering your depth of knowledge and obvious interest on the topic, if you ever feel inclined to make other whisky related vids that aren't specifically a review I would not be disappointed. Maybe even a special series on chameleons or other reasonably sized reptiles. What ever you decide, thank you for the effort you put into the channel!
Very kind comment! You're right it would be fun to play around with some other concepts on the channel. Might even branch out into amphibians at some point. Cheers! 🥃
@@GwhiskyAmphibians are cool and all buuut.... *points at user name* (first chance I've ever had to tie my name in to conversation, couldn't pass it up)
Hi Geoff had my bottle around three years now, haven’t got round to opening it yet. 🤷♂️Excellent value 24 yr old. (Payed around €120) .Looking forward to the 18 yr review I love the AnConc 18. For the quality that’s in the bottle the price is very good, can still pick it up for under €90. Slàinte Geoff 🥃
€120 is a damn good price! It's probably gone up since then, but for the age I think it's still quite affordable in most markets. As for the 18... absolute banger for €90. Agree... great price for what's in the bottle. Cheers David! 🥃
A super whisky, that was under the radar for a long time, my stash is safe 😊. Most distilleries step up in 3s 12, 15, 18. These guys have a 6 step, 12, 18, 24 no rush. I would say the 24 uses the last real sherry casks, which stopped in the early 80s, probably 2nd fill?
I was listening while walking and when it came to "I digest"...I picked out my phone from my pocket to rewind and see if that's really what you said. And then ... daaaa...pf course that's what he said...Why was I even surprised 😂..... hahahaha Good one my friend! I will soon open the AnConc 18. It's already on the shelf. Might try to see if I can pick up the 24 next! Hope you had a great weekend Buddy! Cheers 🥃🥃
your fast paced punchy quick style is fun, I like okay in the spirit of reviews the presentation section is mind bendingly bonkers (deduct 1 point) more like the random hormone-o-meter for whether you fancy the label or a tuna ice cream beer
I’ve never seen it on the shelf (or behind the glass), but for $150, I’d definitely try it. Not that high age always equals great scotch,. The Glenfarclas 25 is around $150 too, but it tastes pretty much like their 12-year to me. Glendronach 21 is great, but at $300 now, I’d only buy it again as a gift for a scotch-fan friend.
Got this a couple weeks for $220 Canadian which is unheard of in Canada for this age and this high quality of a whisky. Absolutely love it (even more than the 18 which I thought was excellent too). Might grab a few more to stash away as I suspect prices will only continue to go up!
I blindbought this on your recommendation middle of last year and it did not disappoint. Every time we have a whiskynight, someone brings up how when they tasted the 24 at my place, it raised the standards for them. Love every bit of it, eventhough I’m not a massive sherry fan
Great review Geoff. I am happy to have picked up a bottle when Rob reviewed it a couple of months ago and now it's gone. Looking forward to opening and tasting it in the future. I am now tempted to look for Ancnoc 18. Look forward to your review of 18.
Superb, thorough review Geoff - as always!! Love them!! Your humour is always appreciated!! Lol!! This expression has a lot to offer! It's a beauty - old, delicious and wow I am amazed the price is friendly! I have had this when a friend was able to get a bottle but I don't have a bottle yet and I need to get one!! I enjoyed my drams with a friend very much! Of course Canada is never reasonable with whisky. Right?!! I will track down this beauty! I do have the 18! I enjoy it very much. Cheers Geoff! 🙂Oh just found it- $300.00 before taxes at BC Liquor! Too much?
Oh boy... $300 is a lot. I'd say for Canada you're probably not going to get a better deal. I'm not sure I'd put out that much, tbh, but I have the luxury of contrasting that to my local prices. It's a beauty for sure. Having tried it yourself, I'll leave that one to you, Christine. Do let me know if you pull the trigger! As always, thanks so much for watching! 🥃
Out of stock pretty much everywhere just now in the UK. Have heard rumours that they don't have enough stock to release at the moment so may well be discontinued for a while! Buy it if you see it!
Love your reviews Geoff! Such a great low key dead pan humor throughout! The only thing I think you could improve is the "Presentation" category. It seems like the score is only based on your subjective view of how the bottle looks, while you always also talk about the information on the bottle in the same section. Would it not make much more sense to incorporate the looks and the information on the bottle into a combined score for presentation than only giving those points for the look itself? I mean if a bottle looks okay (say 3/5) but have great information on it it should get a better presentation score than a similar looking bottle but with no information, don't you agree? This change would make the actual score under "presentation" much more meaningful for us watching :)
Great stuff. Stashed away a few of these 4 years ago when I could get them for $130usd total as part of a UK or EU order. As much as I love this, my favorite anCnoc are the older pale 18 bottles. As you mentioned, they have become darker, and while still wonderful, the pale ones have that magic spirit character that can get drowned in the darkness. Have seen comments from folks who have talked to the people at the distillery, and they have said they don't know why the batches are getting darker as they have not changed the cask makeup of the vatings? Cheers
Interesting, I didn't know that. If it's the same casks I guess the changes are coming from their supplier in Spain. Either way the difference is undeniable. Personally I like the darker ones, but I agree that they are less spirit-forward (and AnCnoc is such a beautiful spirit). Cheers Tim! 🥃
Great review, as usual ! Could you review the Port Charlotte 18, or the Bruichladdich 18 ? I tried the latter, when I visited the distillery, and it was really good ! Well, I tried it after a degustation tour, so I might have been a little overly well disposed towards it :D
I'd love to get my hands on both if I could. I'd rather not pay for the international shipping, so I'm hoping those bottles make it to Taiwan in the near future. I hear they're excellent. If I can find them you can certainly expect a review. Thanks for watching! 🥃
I like your glass it’s stem isn’t to long or thin like other stemmed whiskey glasses. And for 150 it’s a buy all day for a 24 year old whiskey. I’ll be looking for this. Thanks.
Thanks for reviewing, Geoff. Apart from the distilleries you mentioned als NZ based Cardrona is part of Inverhouse. And on the whisky... Decent stuff, despite the grape influence (yep, I know, even I can surprise) Slàinte mhath
It's been a long time, many years, since I've had it (and that it's been available in my region), but I liked this a whole lot. I once was at an all-anCnoc tasting and it was one of the highlights. I do however think that the 22 was a better value - it really tastes very close to the 24, but you save a fair bit of money for 2 years less aging. Back then the 22 probably cost 30% less than the 24 at the SAQ.
Great review as usual Geoff. I've never tried an AnCnoc full stop, but this sounds like a good one. Can I ask what your whisky glass is called? Similar to a copita but different. Is it a Stolzle? Wouldn't mind getting one of those. 👍
AnCnoc makes great stuff, definitely worth trying! As for the glass, I'm not sure about the name of the particular style, but the model is "Abbazia Bourbon Glass" from an Italian brand called Cosi Tabellini. Great glass and the base is made of pewter. Cheers! 🥃
@@Gwhisky It looks like a great glass especially for appreciating the aromas. I'll see if I can find any similar online anywhere. Thanks Geoff. Keep up the great reviews. I really enjoy them all
