This is a watch you buy when you already have a massive collection of various brands. unlike RM watches which gives a "f**k you" attitude because people who wear them are too rich to care, this Grand seiko represents true taste of horology that not many people could understand.
@@nusabenada ohhh yeah forgot forgot they existed. I didnt know they were that bad because I just got into watches 2 months ago and I started liking seikos but most especially Orient.
Very well explained on the finishing! So many watch channels just talk about branding, design, materials etc.. but rarely I see someone describe hand finishing as well as you. Looking forward to more of this content!
I consider the Kodo one of the best watches of all time. Compared to other watches in that price range I absolutely think it’s worth it. If I were super rich I would have definitely tried to get this
Its a absolutely stunning watch. Im usually not a big fan of skeletonized pieces, but this is very well done. Awesome to see GS step into hyper horology range. I hope they make a hi beat microrotor someday
As a proud owner of a SBGA461 and a bit of a watch geek, I had no this watch existed. OMG what a thing of extreme beauty the GS Kodo is. You have to love the Japanese obsession with perfection.
You need to check out any Grand Seiko or Credor masterpiece, they are simoly absurd when it comes to finishing. Also you completely forgot to mention the most unique part of Kodos Case design, that being the platinum inner cage. This is why the lugs are split into two portions, with the outer part being brilliant hard titanium and the inner part being platinum. This creates a visual contrast between one of the darkest metals and one of the brightest metals.
I think Kodo came and planted its flag on the top of the horology mountain. It is extremely hard for any brand to reach such a highness. If I had enough money, I would instantly buy it without asking the price first :)
GS is still underrated, their first mechanical complication and it’s something that’s never been done, that might not ever be replicated, executed to perfection even under a microscope.
I don't normally comment but I have to say, love the delivery of this video. Love the attention to detail and you knowledge shows through. Definitely deserve more subs!
The watch is incredible but i somehow feel designs like these fade away after some time . The horology though is just amazing and happy to know that gs does not limit itself to the sub 10k range .
It an insane watch, there seem to be a lot of watches in the $300k range whether it's "the holly trinity" watches, or ultra high end independents, I hope one day I have the opportunity to choose between such options, thanks for the video Grand Seiko don't seem to have missed
This watch is beautiful. I am surprised the designer overlooked the details of the GS emblem and the Grand Seiko name at the watch face - these would look better if raised instead of the laser engraving recess which looks subdued.
My issue is how they did too much overlapping. Piling it on top of one another. I wish they would have spread out the parts more. From a distance if looks like a big blob of metal. Silhouette is very important in good design. Having negative space too. Not just the positive space. For this price range I would rather buy another one. Or two.
Yeah, I can see that, it does look cluttered on video. Definitely a lot better in person though, but only so much I can do with a camera and basic lens 🥲
Beautiful timepiece. Does it keep its value when reselling ? Someone who could afford this probably doesn’t care but it’s always nice to know the value is kept or at least most of its value. I don’t know but I feel it would resell for half the price. Am I wrong ? Nice quality video and editing ! Cheers 🥂
You can’t compare entry level lange with roman gauthiers and greubels of the world . At the same price range the datograph perpetual tourbillon comes very close to.
Money isn’t even real. Prices are arbitrary and value is subjective. 99.9% of people will not understand how much engineering, artistry and labour went into this timepiece… even after they watch this video. Is it worth it? Absolutely.
dude.... most people feel that paying $350 for a watch is damn pricey If you think a $5000 watch is an "affordable" watch.... 90% plus of the population would not agree with you.
@@rashakorMany Swiss brands are older than Rolex. It does not mean we have to accord them more respect due to their age. Perhaps I need to see a Kodo too. Even then, I may just like the Kodo and not much else in the GS range. I just bought a Seiko Metronome watch. Hope that makes you feel better.
Another movement and mechanism that the Swiss brands can't even match if not exceeded. Not to mention the Spring Drive that none of their movement can rival. Japanese are still the best in various industries.
I am no expert in mechanical. Yet i have a watch Channel and i am reviewing a mechanical Marvel. And tryin to make sense of thé Price compared to thé luxury shit they make today.
No it’s not worth it. While beautiful and a technical marvel… it’s still just a watch. This only makes sense once you have more money then you can reasonably spend.
if it is the fruit of 10 years of r&d and one of a kind in the world then it is worth the price for some people, it is more complicated than a house or a car. i'd never buy it over a house though.

Great review of a fascinating watch. I didn't know, until now, that it exists. Now, if I can just get $349,000 more, I'll definitely get one.

Thank you for taking the time watch it! Means a lot
I predict this is gonna become the LFA of watches. Soon it will cost a million, and it would STILL be regarded as underpriced. #Respect
I'm not sure if it'll ever be that level, but it's easily one of the best watch to come out of Japan!

Great watch and review, especially of movement, finishing and lugs.

I think GS was right when they listed this magical watch at 350K , GS is beating all Swiss over hyped watches
Will be interesting to see where they take the high horology

when i saw the price I just laughed so hard, i cant stop it.
How is the clasp?
Alright, nothing special. Single fold clasp
Really cool watch! :-)
The only surprise is they not release it under credo name.
That would have been cool

Damn, this is a gorgeous watch. I wish I wasn’t poor lol 350k is a nice house.
If this watch is only “near” the top of your list, then what IS at the top?
Probably something like the Patek 5270P, mostly because the perpetual calendar is my favorite complication

Try as Grand Seiko may, I still have a bias against them. They may have to try harder and for longer.
Understandable. I was like that until I wore the Kodo
So how long Seiko has to whoop Swiss ass for you to drop the bias? It’s been already 50 years! Seiko is older than Rolex!
