    Hoenstly, the only issue i have with NMS in VR is that you have to essentially cripple your graphics to play it at a steady framerate. I got a simmilar system to you (ryzen 7 5800X instead of the 3600X) but with my pico4 i have to absolutely neuter the graphics down to standarxd across the board (and maxed out base complexity) to reliably hit the 90fps my vr displays run at... and that's with dlss on quality... with nonVR i can max everythign out pretty much and that without DLSS but with DLAA for the anti aliasing...

    • @CaptainsRath
      @CaptainsRath  Год назад +1

      Dang sersioulsy that’s crazy, I actually get better frames in VR mode when running on High graphics, it’s laggy for the first 5 minutes but then settles to a really solid 90fps. My headset is really old though so it might not be trying to reach Pico 4 resolution.

    Helpful video man! I didnt even know about the rerouting power thing! :o
    Its definietly not blurry for me in VR on an htc vive pro 2, RTX 4090 and amd 7900x3d cpu. Stable running @ 5100x5100 pixels (80 FPS avg) on all ultra settings with DLSS balanced mode. If anyone needs optimization help with PCVR hit me up I spent a lot of time getting here.
    I doubt the game itself is the problem with recording VR.. Seems like VR in general takes a lot of fine tuning for your PC. For instance to run at the highest resolution stable you may need to unplug or change resolution on monitors / streaming software to find that "Sweet spot" for stability vs performance. I have found if I send my video to OBS to my old PC with Aver capture card, and just unplug the main PC Monitor, I have minimal game performance loss while streaming or recording (lowered resolution to 4800x4800).

    • @CaptainsRath
      @CaptainsRath  Год назад +1

      Thanks man! Yeah it’s weird because it’s only No Man’s Sky which had the issue, but I think I’ve sorted it out now as it was a mixture between NMS simply being demanding and my recording software being unstable after updating to Windows 11.
      Yeah I’ve spent a lot of time in the SteamVR settings myself 😂 that menu screen is engraved in my brain, but hey atleast it works flawlessly now at high settings at native resolution.

    • @CaptainsRath
      @CaptainsRath  9 месяцев назад

      Hmm I would def say to try turning off Vsync, but that didn’t help me all too much. Also reducing the resolution in steamVR can help a good amount.
      Also when No Man’s Sky is running, go into task manager, go to the details tab, and then find SteamOVR.exe (or something like that) and NMS.exe and set both to High priority. This worked for me on a lot of games in the past.
      What CPU are you running on and how much RAM, also what settings is No Man’s Sky running at in VR, they could have been set too high?
      No Man’s VR will definitely have lag no matter what, but I’ve been able to limit it to only heavy moments like leaving and entering a planet. Apart from that it should work pretty well.

    • @CaptainsRath
      @CaptainsRath  11 месяцев назад +1

      It may be possible, but I am a bit doubtful that it would be a good experience.
      Because you are on a laptop, you are going to be running on mobile, weaker, parts compared to the actual card in a full PC. The GTX1060 in a full PC struggles to play the game, so I can’t imagine how a laptop will run it, especially once the laptop starts to overheat.
      But if you still want to try it out, you can either try the game through GamePass PC which you can get a cheap trial for, or buy on Steam and test the game out before 2 hours of playtime so you can still refund it incase it doesn’t work.
      The rest of your build should be fine though!

      You can do VR at any time you want and can start the game in VR. You don’t need to start in flatscreen and then switch so you won’t have to waste any time :)
      It’s also nice because you can play flatscreen for 5 hours then continue in VR. You can play VR for 20 hours then continue in flatscreen. So you can take a break from VR when needed and still play.

      I can try, but I'm going to need some more info. What issues are you running into? What are the specs of your PC? What have you already tried to do to fix your issues?

      @CaptainsRath so I have just bought the game and when I start the game it loads to a black screen and then steam vr fails or if I get lucky then I can make it to the main menu but when I try to start the game it takes me to the space sequence and then i sit there for a few minutes and then it crashes but I did make it to the game but it lasted for a second and I never was able to get to the game ever since but I looked up many videos I found one saying to use windows defender and put the game in there and run the game in compatibility mode but that didint work and my specs are a amd ryzen 3 5300G with radeon graphics and my gpu is a amd radeon rx 5500

      How much RAM do you have?
      And hmm, your GPU is pretty much on the borderline with being able to play this game in VR, as it is very demanding, but I might have a few ideas that can help.
      Here is some basic stuff:
      Make sure all graphic settings are set to the lowest.
      Make sure drivers are updated.
      Make sure you have no windows updates left
      Make sure nothing else is running in the background
      Now a couple more advanced things:
      When in game (or in menu) go to SteamVR settings and turn down the in game resolution, and overall just mess around with the settings in there. If you feel that you’ve messed something up then don’t worry, you can just press the reset to defaults option.
      When the game is open, go to task manager and go to details. Find the game in this list and set its priory to High. This helped me run the game in the past on my older PC.
      Hopefully one of these can help you!

      @CaptainsRath ok I'm trying that right now and I'll tell you if anything happens to the game

      @CaptainsRath ok, so I tried that, and that didn't work. How did you get your game to work in vr to make the video?

      @@xronos_exe I’m using the Oculus Rift, and yeah VRAM might be a part of the problem. I used to be on 4GB and it was rough, now my 3060 is rocking 12GB.

      Well your GPU is still really solid, and what it has 8GB of VRAM? That should definitely be good enough for NMS VR. You might have another issue that’s software related. Or maybe you are playing on an HDD?

    Would be insane if they would update the absolute abomination that is the PCVR version..

      I mean, I play on PCVR and got all of this footage from the PCVR version while recording. It isn’t THAT bad. But it definitely does need some optimization work.

      @@CaptainsRath yeah it's terrible. PSVR2 just got the keys to the kingdom in the last update and PC users are likely never going to see a patch to fix the atrocious performance. This is likely the worst performing VR game I have. MSFS 2020 runs better which is saying something.

      @@Thezuule1 haha yeah PSVR2 players are fr eating good, weird though that you have a better pc than mine but I’m running better. You shouldn’t be having any issue with your specs.

      @@CaptainsRath I'm also not trying to, or willing to run the game at 1200p. I push my headset at 5400x2700 and it plays anything else without issue. MSFS, Asgard's Wrath, Bonelab, Alyx, you name it, they all run smoothly. This game on the other hand is a trainwreck.

    • @CaptainsRath
      @CaptainsRath  11 месяцев назад

      I run the game at 1440p but yeah, it’s harder to run. The only reason I can see to the performance issues is that NMS is so big, but it can definitely get better optimized. Still, not that bad. It definitely takes some tweaking to get right though.
      Also, a 4070 isn’t made for 4K VR. And now you’re pushing your headset well past 4K so performance issues are bound to happen.
