    I find Brandek to be a slippery, and slightly disengenuos debater. He constantly avoids ansewring direct questions by burying them in a legion of adjacent but unrelated arguments. I know he means well, but he still comes across like the guy who thinks he’s smarter than everyone else, when all he is is clever enough to defend whatever flag he’s planted in the ground. I don’t find it particularly compelling or honorable.

    • @majik16106

      Came to say this. I think he means well and I believe he wants the best for golf, but the way he argues puts me off. I think soly could have held him more to stuff he was saying but it would have made the interview cringy. Great interview but I do think it shows how he avoids his own arguments when held to them and he does come off a little bit " im smarter so you're opinion is dumb" when some of the stuff came down to basic philosophical differences. It wasn't right or wrong.

    • @islandtook
      @islandtook 2 месяца назад

      @@majik16106 Yeah, totally agree on the nothing Soly could do or else it would have been cringey. The irony of it all is Brandel’s whole debating tactic is “whataboutism”, something he cited early on in the pod.

      If you're going to criticise someone's statements, I'd suggest you proofread your comments before clicking the "reply" button. It’s funny how the fact that guys are hitting it so long and straight are both of your main points for and against the need for equipment change.
    It wasn’t that long ago that players like Luke Donald, Brandt Snedeker, and Jim Furyk were top 10 players in the world.

    Totally agree that there needs to be an equipment and/or ball rollback for pros. The comp is MLB! MLB players don’t use metal bats, even college players have specific bats with exit velocity ratings that are lower than HS and travel ball. Baseballs are constantly monitored and controlled through testing and humidors… using steroids, Simone Biles, Olympic pools are terrible arguments and comps. The weekend warrior can still use fancy tech equipment and still appreciate what pros are doing at the highest level. Brandel is brutal…

    he's right. I'm 69. I drove the ball long all my life, past all my peers. Leave the game alone. I am WORKING on getting it to 260...I live in Denver.

    Brandel doesn't seem to understand you can roll the ball and equipment back and if you over do it, you can easily move the tees forward. If equipment keeps getting better and these guys are hitting it 450 yards, you make tons of historically great courses obsolete over night. Courses would run out of real estate trying to lengthen the courses to 8,500 yards.
    Youth Baseball all the way through college baseball, the kids play with a metal bat. When you make the jump to the pros they give you a woke bat and then the real hitters separate themselves. Not to mention, you don't have to push the green monster back 75 feet to keep routine pop flies in play. Golf should look into doing something similar. A rolled back ball and Woods should come into play when you are looking to turn pro so we can preserve some of the historically great courses.

    Brandel constantly talking over Soly is so annoying. Soly had to bail on his very first argument that tall rough is not the ONLY defense against elite golfers because Brandel wouldn’t just sit there and listen for two seconds. And for as much as Brandel wants to look at math, he doesn’t seem to understand that a ball roll back doesn’t create a linear reduction in yardage across all ball speeds. The effect of the reduction will not be nearly as dramatic for the average golfer as it is going to be for the pros. Ironically, he just counters the rollback with a straw man argument that the huge (non-existent) difference for recreational golfers will turn them off of the game.
