Utterly obsessed with this video! Those books we’re a real challenge but you pulled through bestie! 💜 Now I’ve gotta see which of your recommendations I can sneak into season 2! 👀📚
AHHH! Thank you so much Tobie for sending me the list and being able to go on this journey!!! But omg do let me know if you’re able to sneak any of them in 👀👀
i love the idea of Isaac reading books that have been adapted into film with Tao the film lover, having visions of of Tao telling Isaac in advance what the film of choice is for the next film night so he can read it before! ❤
I can see this so clearly, someone should make a oneshots/imagines book on like Wattpad with little moments like this that would happen between all the friends.... like inviting Nick and Tara and Darcy to one of the film nights and how it would go about, sleepovers with Tara and Darcy and Elle, showing more of Isaac's friendship with Charlie, stuff like that. if only I was good at writing :/
I think Isaac would love "The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet", it's a really wholesome scifi book with a HUGE amount of diversity in gender, species, races, sexuality, and life experiences, and is a really cute read! I'm reading its standalone sequel at the moment and that is also amazing!
@@fictionalfates oh my god this is one of my favourite books ever and I the sequel is fantastic also all four are on my shelf beside me now the first though is absolutely epic and so SO warm cannot WAIT for your review!!!
Bestie I hope RUclips gives you all of the ad revenue because you put in the work for this one. Dune, quantum mechanics, and the time travelers wife (which I hated in high school 💀), oof. I have no clue how you read all of these in 2 week but you dropped this 👑 (she/her)
I am a middle-aged, married mother of 3 who loves reading and Munro bagging..... oh and I'm an ITU nurse of 41 years. I adored the "Heartstopper" books and the Netflix series. Your video was fantastic - a great idea. My choice for Isaac would be "Young Mungo" by Douglas Stuart - the cover is a famous photograph taken by Wolfgang Tillmans about 20 years ago in a gay nightclub in 🇬🇧London. It's called "The Kiss"
I noticed a lot of the books Isaac was reading throughout but couldn’t catch them all so I was eagerly awaiting a video like this! I really wanted to know all he read.
Dude, I love this show so much that it made buy the graphics novels, i loved them so much that i got Radio Silence and Solitaire. Now im here, watching booktube and wanting to read more books. Im i becoming a book nerd because of queer teen romance i just happen to watch on day because i was bored? Incredible. The power of the rainbow. Also love this video so mich, definitely going to check more out. ❤️
I truly appreciate all your knowledge, perspective, time and effort for this video. In the current stage (season 1 of Heartstopper), Isaac barely speaks and we know absolutely nothing about him (I seriously hope they will expand him in the series to come). But this video provided tremendous insight to who he is. So thank you very much!! Although, if I could ask one thing,...will you please iron your shirts. It triggers my OCD big time.
eee thank you so much! i do hope they expand on Isaac in season 2 as well, it would be so cool if we got to see him expanded! in regards to my shirts, i try when i can but sometimes i forget to because adhd brain slkjdkfjkl
Bro is not ready for the amount of books he reads in season 2. The amount of books he bought and the amount of books in the background of his bedroom 😂
This video was so freaking good like I enjoyed this so much and honestly you should make this a series for heartstopper or other tv show. But ya bestie take a break you definitely deserve one after reading all them books.
About the quantum mechanics, I did physics at university (and dropped out after failing my final year btw 😂) and my quantum mechanics lecture would say if you think you understand quantum mechanics, you're doing it wrong 😂
i've just recently come to terms with the fact that i'm trans and want to use he/him pronouns 👉👈 a great video as always! you give off such warm vibes, i'm always looking forward to your videos
Considering the mini comic Alice made where Nick is reading pride and prejudice for class (and then falls asleep and dreams about living in the regency period and dancing with charlie) Isaac was probably reading pride and prejudice for class (also I go by any pronouns!)
THIS IS SO FREAKING EXCITING! Also all of the outfits in this video are absolutely stunning and you look so good in all of them. You should do more of these kinds of videos, they are immensely entertaining!
I literally watched this video yesterday and you talked about naughts and crosses which I had never heard before and thought it sounded interesting. The next day my mom and I went to goodwill and I found a book called Black and White and the premise sounded exactly like Naughts and Crosses so I picked it up only to realize it’s the same book! So I’m interested in reading it
My recommendation for Issac is Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando it’s spans around 300 year where a man wants to write a book but cannot do it however one day wakes up a woman and can write the book showing the woman and it is dedicated to Vita Sackville-West who was supposedly Woolfs lover ( a lesbian affair as Woolf was of course married to a man to have a solid place in society) may have also been transgender. It has that time traveler aspect (extended lifetime) and I would see him read it and recommend it to Elle
Amazing video! I clicked on it when I saw the title because Isaac is iconic, but then I saw the length of the video - I rarely have the patience to sit through a video longer than 20 minutes. I don’t read that many books myself as I find it difficult to keep my attention to the book and I definitely think it comes from me being autistic but I really enjoyed this video and I think its just cause you were able to make it really interesting with just your personality and stuff. Glad I found your videos I absolutely love heartstopper so much and seeing the stuff Isaac was reading throughout the show was very fun!
i absolutely love this video and all of your lovely comments, but let me tell you the ad that I got for the Dune audiobook was surprising! never had such a well placed ad lol

About the time traveler’s wife - if Isaac is a sci-fi nerd and has watched Doctor Who, it’s often referenced in that show, and the writer spoke about how it was the inspiration for a main character.
(she/her) Fun fact about the size of the Dune Messiah book! We I'm the biz (at least im Canada) call that the Mass Market Paperback. It's actually the original size of the popular novel which is why most antique books and classics are that size. During the later half of the 20th century, reading was on a downturn and the publishing industry was coming up with ways to reinvigorate reading. They did this by changing book size (to what we now know as the Trade Paperback) in order to separate modern novels from the ones of the past. We're now used to the Trade Paperback size because it did indeed become popular!

I want season 2 so bad, I'm joining the praying circle if you have one 🕯 more so now that Alice said that Isaac is aro/ace and we aces definitely need that sweet hopeful representation on netflix too :') thank u again, and I'm a she/ her
she/her 😊 and hearing that Dune Messiah kinda fills out Paul's journey explains a lot why Denis Villeneuve wants to adapt the first two books in their entirety as a trilogy.
this is such a cool concept, i loved watching your reviews for each one and your explanations for why Isaac would be reading them!!! i love book reviews so much, am definitely binging your channel hehe i also wholeheartedly agree that Isaac would be the type to read the book before the movie (also i use he/him plus a couple neos; ze/zem/zyr + wor/wors/worm >:3c)

i just found your channel because of your notion vid and i'm so glad i did! i don't personally watch heartstopper but i'm so glad it's bringing so many queer viewers so much joy! you/ve also inspired me to read more
the unhinged energy around this whole video is fantastic, it's giving Jack Edwards (she/her, but I've been called they before and I'm good with either)
There are some good books about quantum mechanics - I really enjoyed How To Teach Quantum Physics To Your Dog, for a less overwhelming introduction to it haha
I love this video, it's so in-depth and your insights are fascinating! I'm so looking forward to season 2 of Heartstopper and hopefully seeing more exploration of aro-ace king Isaac's perspective. If you're looking for murder-mystery novels for your future guess-the-ending-before-the-detective video, I'd highly recommend the "Rivers of London" series by Ben Aaronovitch if you haven't read them already. The crime-solving is very in-depth and methodical, the worldbuilding is top-notch, and the protagonist is a great narrator.
she/they🌸 wow you really put so much work into this video and I loved it!!!!!!!! I especially love to here you're thoughts and discussions of the books, they are always so thoughtful. Though I won't lie one of my favorite bits was the little head turn when saying "is that because he's WHITE" at the beginning.
She/Her! I love seeing an hour long video from you, Joel! It always feels like just sitting with a good friend and chatting about books. I haven't gotten the chance to watch or read Heartstopper yet but I've been so excited to dive into it from all I've heard and the clips I've seen. (Also, I am *so* happy that you loved Pride and Prejudice!)
as an Austen stan, I am so happy that you enjoyed P&P! Might I suggest Sense & Sensibility or Northanger Abbey next (for shorter reads) or Emma (for a highly entertaining read)
Also im kind of trying to figure out my pronouns which isn’t really working hahah (mainly bc my main language is German and there aren’t really „official“ gender neutral pronouns) but yeah 3) I’ll take my time
I've been drinking diet lemonade because I'm in a tori spring mood lately. I figured it would be you or Jack Edwards doing this video lol. I can't wait to see season 2, because it has to happen I mean it took Netflix by storm and I've seen it everywhere lately which I love so much. The Waterstones in my town have been shocked by the amount of people who have gone in looking for all of Alice's books.
Ok, as a lifelong Pride and Prejudice lover, hear me out Joel, if you're gonna watch an adaptation, watch the 90s BBC one with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. It's longer, but truer to the book and time period! TOTALLY worth the time investment.
Greetings from Finland! I just discovered your channel and it's awesome! I love your energy and appreciate the long videos. 💕 I have read pride and prejudice two times and the time traveler's wife is on my physical tbr. Have a lovely summer! 🌺💕
My theory is that Isaac mostly just reads whatever he can get his hands on - his parent's bookshelf, school library, bookshops and secondhand, or just left behind on the bus. Some of his choices are obviously intentional, but I think the others were just there!
This might not be related to the video content itself BUT i'm at my first year in college, studying Biology . I was so confused these past days with my own decision, cus i do love languages, and reading and understanding the constructions of a lot of things around this. You just made me feel at home with this video, like i could really enjoy my college experience much more than i'm doing right now😢😢😢 I'm really thinking about changing to language studies, as for portuguese language (my mother language) or english too. So thanks a lot bestie u provide a very nice feeling in my heart today😶💖
@@blueisanidiot4358 Hii! so, i decided i would stay at the Bio course!! Even though i do love languages and all, there's new things in biology that really catch my love and attention. And just for info, i'm from a city in Amazonas, Brazil. I always wanted to be a teacher, but soon had find that i could relate this dream within Biology studies. Also, dealing with my mental health during the first semester was really a process. Right now i'm at my third period at college, doing a project about afforestation, happy with my own discoverys and journey. I do really hope that everyone that read my late opinion and the new one understand just one thing: there's always time and u own yours!! Even if i suddenly change the route, or decide to keep going, time is necessary to be respected. If i had jumped out of college to another course, can't say what could have happened. But i'm enjoying my time right now, enganging in studies that also matters for me and this amazing place i live🥰

The idea of Nick's rugby mates wearing rainbow laces to show their support of him or/and Charlie is so sweet. I really want to see it.
I have no desire what do ever to read dune but that ✨waterstones edition✨
i want it
Ok, as a lifelong Pride and Prejudice lover, hear me out Joel, if you're gonna watch an adaptation, watch the 90s BBC one with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. It's longer, but truer to the book and time period! TOTALLY worth the time investment.
i love your videos and how you always match your outfit to the books it’s amazing!!💜
Greetings from Finland! I just discovered your channel and it's awesome! I love your energy and appreciate the long videos. 💕 I have read pride and prejudice two times and the time traveler's wife is on my physical tbr. Have a lovely summer! 🌺💕
Welcome!! I hope you have a lovely summer too, and thank you for your kind words!
Hey man what did you end up doing jsndjdj
