Genuinely have been waiting for this for ages! Isaac is my inspiration. His dedication to learning about topics he doesnt have a proper grasp on yet like his own sexual/romantic identity is so aspirational honestly. Season 2 will always be in my heart and im so excited for the next season.
I love how Alice Oseman picked these books so intentionally and so perfectly. I already thought so when I was watching the show, but your video made that attention to detail stand out even more
I read The Little Prince in French in elementary school and loved it so much I can recite entire pages. To this day it's the only book I've read in all four languages I speak. The fox in the story is such an important character to me even today 🦊✨️ Great reviews as always! 📚
@@fictionalfates It's so interesting from a translation point of view, too. The scene with the fox is much softer in French, in my opinion. The nuance of "apprivoiser" was definitely lost in translation. But I can't think of a different way to translate it. It's fascinating!
Holy jeeeeeebz! That summation of that quote - "silent resistance" to motivate self preservation. That hit me in the gut! Needed to hear that today. Me and my therapist have some things to discuss in my next session!
As a newly appointed cozy kingdom meme, I’m so thankful to you thank you sm for creating such a lovely cozy chaotic community, I can’t wait to watch the whole video but congrats on a new milestone !!!
Every time I saw Isaac with a new book this season, I was thinking about how you were going to do this video again and how long it would take you to read all of these. Great video as always, loved hearing both your review of the books and also why you believe they chose that particular book.
Congratulations on the play button Joel, your channel has been a staple of mine for a while now and it's so heartwarming to see you reach these milestones (:
I’m super glad We Are Okay is getting the recognition it deserves!! It is one of my all time favorite books ever since I read it a few years back. To anyone thinking about reading it, please do so!
Hearing you talk about Les Mis was relatable. I've been slowly working my way through Les Mis for two years now. It just takes so much energy to read and a bit of research into historical context and stuff. I love it when I'm reading it, but sometimes I go for months when I just don't want to read it. Definitely some big book fear going on.
The speed at which I clicked when I saw Shakespeare and company on the thumbnail 😭 I’m going to France in just over a week and I’m planning to drag my whole family there lmao
I love Crush so much. Also, I was so affected by finishing Boy Erased that I convinced myself I didn't need to seek medical attention for a problem that I later went to the ER for lol.
So well done! Nice to get some solid Ace rep and appreciate you highlighting it amongst all the other important issues in this video. The quotes you chose were very impactful as well. Welcome back :)
the little prince ❤ this book has a very special place in my heart. every time i go to a new country i buy a copy of it in the country’s language. i only have a french and spanish copy so far, but here’s hoping for more travel! my manager at a coffee shop i worked at years ago gave me the idea, she collected copies of the road by cormac mccarthy.
oooh that is so cool, i hope you’ll be able to collect more editions in the future! i’m not sure what my book that i’d want to collect every language of - but i still have time to figure that out!
so proud of you and how far your channel has come !! your content is the cosiest - the playbutton is so well deserved!! loved the first video you did on this, love this one too !! where's wally did send me ngl but anyway, such a interesting dive into the books he read this season !!
I'm so excited for this video!!!! Since you mentioned it i gotta point out i really miss when you'd do longer intros and commentary, it feels like now you're trying to get all your thoughts out in a timely manner which can be good in short form content, but I like my long content to be long😅 I like the rants and jokes and extra thoughts and b-roll. I feel like a lot of that is dying with the rise of short form but I'll always be a fan of long-form content.
I love how you can see the headcanons keep expanding throughout the video😂 I’m definitely adding some of these to my tbr and prioritizing some others 👀 loved the video sm, all the outfits freaking slapped
I've been waiting for this for literally the longest time! (since you posted a story about reading Les Miserables) 😅❤ The number of times I have read On a Sunbeam is insane! I was first introduced to it a few years ago, and I have reread it so many times. Ace of Spades has been on my reading list for the longest time as well.
Not even past the intro but ah it's been 3 years?? I guess so. I don't even remember how I found your channel but it was either youtube doing something really right with a recommendation or another booktuber. Either way I subscribed right away because just from.your first 2/3 videos I knew you'd be doing good things ❤
As an ace reader myself, I fully claim Issac as my representation! Also your style of dress and speaking is so unabashedly queer, I bet clothes shopping with you is a blast 🏰
Hii, I don't usually comment on YT but hey, books! I love Isaac's Character and I'm always trying to guess which books he picks (like that huge stack in Shakespeare and Co' in season 2). Thank you for all your comments and readings (I add some of them to my wishlist). And, even if I don't like The Outsider by Camus, I had to read it too many times and I don't know if the english traduction says it somewhere but fun fact : Meursault, in French in heard "meurt sot", which means "dying idiot" which is kind of a spoiler from Camus. 🙈
Very off topic but where did you get the white "bookshelf" on the right on your desk at 5:30? I am looking for the exact same thing but cant find anything similar
@@fictionalfates amazing, running to the IKEA website now! Thank you :) also I'm loving the video, currently mid-way and already adding books to my tbr
100% agree with the post colonial read of Around The World In 80 Days yet you completely disregard the devastating effects of Arab Imperialism. Not all colonialism is “white”.
Jules Verne's stance on imperialism, is not surprising, on the Jules Verne topic have you read his other book 5 weeks in a balloon because it is so racist, just some of the discussions between characters in the book about how they view the natives, and also the fact that i could literally find a random page in that book and be greeted by the N word, just gave me a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Verne and any book he has written, so just wondering but on reflection did you get and racist undertones or even blatant racist comments in around the world in 80 days.

It truly is aspirational, like constantly learning and constantly wanting to be better, like how could we not love him so much??

omg the fox was such an interesting character, especially in their discussion about being tamed - it was intriguing!
