Does the book add anything that the web toon doesn’t have because if not I basically read the entire book in one day as well because I read all the webcomic because of how absolutely amazing it was. Alice Oseman is an amazing writer. She makes something as seemingly simple as a YA novel about a high school romance, into something that I can’t stop thinking about, or talking about, and even rewatching it’s show adaptation.

The biggest ally I have ever known is the librarian from the high school I went to who upon him finding out about me and my queer partner, recommended heartstopper when only the first two books were out. And to this day heartstopper is still the most important book series to me, I’ve reread them at least 8 times

I was head nodding along to your comments about Euphoria. I felt like a Grandma watching it, being like is this what kids are being exposed to today as a representation of what goes on in high school? Actually absurd.
As someone currently in high school (although I’m in Australia so it might be different), from what I’ve seen high school is nowhere near as bad as euphoria (although people do swear a lot but that’s not rly a big deal)
Edit: although I’m now remembering that there was this whole thing about lots of kids vaping
These things actually happen though. People got moved around/expelled for drug use, arrests, sex parties etc. My school wasnt as dramatic as the show, but between the whole district (news travels real fast and far) everything portrayed has happened to some degree.
I first read heartstopper a bit over a year ago and have read it so many times since, I watched the TV series the day it came out and I just love this story so so much. The representation, the way it’s educational and shows LGBTQ+ issues without being depressing, I just love it so much. Alice Oseman is amazing.
Same but I have a question. How do you deal with the feeling of it not being your special thing anymore? It’s good that’s is becoming more known and it deserves the recognition but it doesn’t help the feeling of sadness

@@strawbeare Hey, I do feel this way from time to time, especially watching the actors who played these amazing characters grow but it is something that is inevitable, it deserves to go out and inspire others but although it doesn't take away from the sadness. To be apart of something this great, it is wonderful. It is something that often fades on its own for me. I thought I was the only one that felt this way. Hang in there. 🥺💓

@@strawbeare I guess I just remember that most other people who love heartstopper feel the same way I do (to a degree, at least) and I just love that it’s making so many people happy. It can be tricky to accept that it isn’t just mine (I get that with a lot of books and things lmao) but I just try to remember that, however happy it makes me, it’s doing the same for thousands/millions of others and that’s more important than me having it as my own
Jack you should read the books mentioned in the anime "bonguo stray dogs" where every character is inspired by an author (they have the authors name, dress like the time period the writer lived in...) and each one has a "superpower" called after their most famous book.
YES! I love that anime so much and it has gotten me to read a lot of classics and introduced me to various Japanese authors I’d never heard of.

explain to me why i have tears in my eyes after watching this video. im so happy heartstopper is becoming this massive loved thing, and im so glad you loved it as much as i have for the past 4 years. The comics are incredible, alice's writing and character developments are brilliant, and the tv show was just everything i could've hoped for. just yesterday i rewatched the whole series and read all the available comics (online) all in one day. i just have so much love for this series and this characters
I love Alice Oseman. Her books give such important and true representation. I actually read Loveless when I started doubting whether I was asexual. The book really helped me and I can definitely see how Heartstopper helped others in the same way!

Hearstopper is one of the most wholesome pieces of media (both the graphic novels and the show) ever. I saw a TikTok where the creator was crying over Heartstopper, not because it was overtly happy, not because it was overtly sad, but because it was cute. I have not hyperfixated on something like this since my One Direction phase and I'm scared. I've literally started analyzing the colours and lighting symbolism in the show over on Tumblr...I have no chill.
I’ve known about Heartstopper for a while since most of the booktubers I follow rave about the series. For some unfathomable reason I hadn’t gotten round to reading them yet. I decided to read them just before the show came out. I read them online in one sitting, immediately bought the physical copies, and then binge watched the show in one sitting! I’m hooked and have now entered the stage of heartstopper deprived wallowing 😂

The short Novel NICK AND CHARLIE from the same author follows them 2 two years later!!! You all have to read it it's so good!
Literally one of my favorite shows on Netflix. I absolutely LOVED Young Royals but nothing compares to the representation we see in Heartstopper. I felt so seen and recognized through Nick's character and it was SOOO refreshing to feel that kind of connection with a character. It's not even been a week and I'm just about finished my second time watching it. I can't wait for more!!

everything heartstopper makes me so warm and fuzzy and happy and i wish i had this kind of story when i was in high school, it would have made me a lot less afraid to be lgbt and be my true self. so glad this story gets to touch so many lives!!!! i read the comics 3 times last year and i’ve already watched the show in full twice this week LOL

i’ve also met alice oseman once and i have never met such a lovely person. they drew an image for my friend to get tattooed. also it’s lovely as an aroace person to have an aroace author writing both about aroace character like in loveless and allo characters like in heartstopper. also again she’s absolutely lovely
It was so refreshing to see a teen-romance with supportive parents. I know having unsupportive parents is a struggle a lot of queer youths face, but sometimes I like to see the other scenario too :)
So I watched this video when it came out, and I thought to myself, “hmm, sounds interesting. I’ll probably watch it at some point.” Then last night I decided to watch episode 1…and ended up binging the whole thing! It was so good I couldn’t sleep last night! Then I went down the rabbit hole. Now all things heart stopper that are available from my local library for digital check out are on hold…20 weeks wait on average! This is what I get for coming late to the party. ahh heartstopper has basically consumed my entire week at this point 💕 Jack if you liked heartstopper I can't recommend the graphic novel Check Please enough!! it's a queer love story set at university and focuses on a hockey team, and the main character is a vlogger too! 😄 theres only 2 volumes so it's a pretty speedy read. it's my favourite lmao 💖

Another series to add to my to read list! I actually am considering that I might be aro/ace, so I looked up romance books with aro mains, and saw Loveless. I’ve planning to read it and this has pushed me even further into wanting to read Alice’s books!
Alice has come out as aro/ace and there most likely will be an aro/ace exploration/storyline in seasons 2 or 3!

I’ve been reading heartstopper since last year. It’s so nice seeing people being able to appreciate this. It feels a bit weird for it to become to mainstream thought, cause it felt like my little heartwarming book, but I’m going to let go of my selfishness. You should read Lore Olympus! It's a webtoons comic but the author is releasing the books. Only vol. 1 is out in books but the up to date is on webtoons.

I didn't realize Isaac was based off Aled! That makes me love him even more- Alice confirmed him as aroace (on Twitter) and I'm SO excited to see that explored if we get a season 2. Radio Silence introduced me to the concept of asexuality (which eventually led to me taking that label for myself) and it's so so meaningful to me, seeing it on television would be so amazing

Vol. 4 is definitely my favorite and it has my favorite line form the book series. Favorite line - Nick catches up with Charlie in the street after the "I love you" while Nick is in the shower and Charlie asks "Why are we like this?" Nick says, "Because you are Charlie. And you love me. And I love you."

This show felt really nostalgic to my early teenage years and what grammar school was like in Kent. Weirdly, Alice Oseman actually went to the same secondary school as me as well, but that made a lot of sense finding that out!

I used to read a lot in my school years, but have found it harder to get through books these last few years during uni. I read the entire Heartstopper webtoon in probably 2-3 days and now want to go back to reading novels - I'm hoping to read at least a book a month for the rest of the year, which will be an achievement for me (good time to start the goal as well, since it's the first of June)!
It's the way my algorithm is showing me all these Heartstopper vlogs and I AM WATCHING ALL OF THEM.
