Pleased to see someone talking sense about this subject, Margaret. Many yoga poses are contraindicated not just for osteoporosis sufferers, but also for those with no spinal issues (yet!).
I think it would help to understand that the reason so many elderly people bend their backs, rather than their legs, is due to lower-body weakness and/or arthritic knees and hips. So, while advising against bending and twisting at the spine, a complementary guide on strengthening and mobilizing the lower body (in order to bend correctly) would help.

Thank you Ms. Martin for your very clear, detailed, and helpful tutorial. As a man who unfortunately suffered a compression fracture of my L4 vertebra, I found your overview to be both eye-opening and encouraging.
I have a question, which you may very well have addressed elsewhere. If that is the case, I would very much appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.
Prior to my falling onto my back, the trauma that resulted in a very painful compression fracture, I enjoyed exercise consisting of 30-60 minutes on my recumbent bike, doing a series of exercises with 20-30 pound dumbbells, including various curls and, while on an incline bench, presses (up from my chest), etc., and swimming laps in our local pool.
Since my fall, I have been hesitant to renew this regimen, albeit even at a slower pace and with lighter weights, for fear of injuring or re-injuring my spine.
As a man now in his 70s, exercise is vital to my sense of self and feeling of well being, as well as an important way to maintain my weight and keep mobile.
    What do you suggest?
Many thanks again for your very helpful tutorial!
    Best regards,
    Will

Good morning. My mother used to beat me when I couldn't stand while doing the dishes for a long time. I had this terrible pain in my back that felt like a towel was being twisted. It was very bad. I had to stop doing situps too. I can't stand for long, because my back gets really tight. I deal with it by sitting. I can't sit on chairs like the ones on the doctor's waiting areas, because the pain is awful. The new chairs are the ones that are slanted. Those are awful for my back. I just exercise without doing any abdominal workouts, because my entire upper body, and mid section gets tight. I bend on my knees to pick up things. It's much easier for me. I just exercise for mobility these days. I like your video.

Oh my gosh - that is so terrible, sorry. Hope you are staying active now. I am surprised by the suggestion/study to not do flexion - that is what stretches are all about - however you have to stop at the first sign of discomfort and support with the glutes by pushing into the floor, as opposed to lifting with the back.

Thank you for this video. I am 52 yrs old and while planting flowers in April 2023 I fractured my t8 vertebrae. It seemed so crazy to have hurt myself so severely from this. It took 4 trips to the ER for them to diagnose me correctly. On the 4th trip I also found out I had osteoporosis. After getting in to see a Neuro surgeon for a kyphoplasty, I had a very bad fall. I went back to the ER because it caused a hematoma that went from my hip to my knee. At this visit I was also diagnosed with pneumonia. I could not have the procedure until I was cleared by a Dr. My PCP did not feel okay clearing me due to the fact I also have severe emphysema. My pulmonologist office would not clear me because the Dr I see was out of the Country and his nurse practitioners didn’t feel safe clearing me either. So it is now August and is passed the window to have the procedure. I asked for a referral for aqua therapy which I had read was very good for that type of energy. I went and had the assessment for that and she showed me the pool. As soon as I entered the pool area I had an exasperation of my lungs. So that was no longer an option. I’m not under any care for my back as the Spine Drs here will not take you on as a patient unless it’s for surgery. It still hurts more than I can handle and I’m at a total loss as to what to do? You seem exceptionally educated about this so I thought I’d at least try to ask. If not I still thank you so very much for posting this video.

I have a crushed vertabrae from falling off a horse. It is between my shoulder blades. I was trying a Tai Chi class with some minor Qi gong moves, plus doing tons of housework and eneded up in all kinds of pain. The only thing that stopped the pain was using a TENS unit. I placed the pads on each side of the bulging disk and left the TENS unit going for hours. I was able to complete my housework pain free by doing this 3 days in a row. Difficult to put the pads on because it had
to go between my lower shoulder blades. I have been fine for a couple days without the TENS unit now, doing moderate things around the house, and some errands.

All very while your knees still work. In my eighties my knees, especially the right, won't bear my weight or bend very far (the sound frightens people if I try to pick something up off the floor!) so I cannot kneel or take the avoiding action recommended. Might have been useful for me if I'd seen this 25 years ago.

Would decompress mobilization of an osteoporosis thoracic compression fracture patient in which they are prone with arms out stretched forward also laying flat on a therapy table? Especially regarding a T11-T12 lever compression fracture? Additional could the therapist mobilize standing facing the table with superior hand hypothenar area on T6-7 and inferior side with palm grabbing posterior calcaneous distracting inferior anterior with calcaneous and superiority with Spinous contact? 3 seconds on and off 5 x total 3 sets of 5reps with 60 seconds in between. Then would it be beneficial for patient to do similar position on a bed at home but either with thighs flexed 90 degrees with shins flat on floor or patient laying prone but arms stretched over her head and ankles flexed one over the other perhaps five reps 3 sets at least three times daily. Also, should we advise patient to wear a lumbar support belt throughout the day while weight-bearing of course them they should still follow proper body mechanics, ergonomics, and posture consciousness? thank you for answering this complex detailed question additional recommendations would be welcome as well. Additional recommendations would be welcome as well or direct me to other videos addressing such moves on your video series.😊

Once fracture has happened, now you are trying to both recover and prevent further injury - but you are at an increased risk of further injury because the support is not there. So making the core strong, coordinating movements, using the legs to create good posture is *key* and something that I am learning now with my PT person.

There is much said about it not being a weight bearing exercise but very little guidance for the perameters/considerations of water exercise. Does the gentleness of the water make a difference (for example jumping Jack's, gentle twisting, leg raises)? Also would walking against the water flow in a lazy river be a good exercise or risky?

My fractures weren’t even mentioned even after tell the doc my pain in the back was hurting really bad
I was told it’s muscular and he poked his finger or thumb in my back that hard a want to jump through the ceiling
    Muscles he said
I was re admitted in august either gallbladder and had Ct scan
On that Ct report it stated
Two severe wedge fractures at T 6/7 which was present on X-ray in the March
Ha pulled muscle the doc said was he blind when he looked at my X-ray? I think so I now also have kyphosis because of the fractures which should of been seen to at the time
