" It is the nature of a thing that matters. not its form. " honestly, the phrase is really so damn powerful and it even helped me in real life. I went in a huge quarrel with a friend. We stopped talking for months and one day she sent me a simple " I'm sorry " and I didn't even bother to answer because for me after what we went through, I was feeling like a simple sorry wasn't enough. But in that moment, when Kratos said to Brok " It is the nature of a thing that matters. not its form. " It striked me and I realized... she actually felt sorry and apologized. that was the nature of the thing and what mattered. not it's form, the fact that she just put 3 words and not 200. This game is truely a masterpiece.
Small thing but i really like the words Brok uses for the blessing. 3 lines but only one of them were about the weapon being good at killing. The 2nd was for it to be tempered by wisdom. and the third tto be only used when it is needed.
I really do love that final line especially because it very specifically speaks to kratos as a person. He knows kratos only fights when necessary and so blessed the spear with that purpose, it’s kind of the opposite of the blades of chaos which are eternally tied to kratos even if it’s against his will.
Kratos is the guy that literally ripped Helios' head with his bare hands. We never expected him to be wholesome. That's good and i don't say that because i didn't like it, on the contrary, i love that Kratos is finally finding himself
You forgot what he did to poseidon who was the Second nicest god to him even during the invasion of Olympus and he gave him the Most brutal death in gow history
Poseidon cared for Atlantis because the city was an extension of his own power. It’s basically a form of narcissism. On top of that it is mentioned that Poseidon was a rapist, so I wouldn’t say he’s “nice”. The gods lied to Kratos that his brother was dead, not in interest of the greater good or anything like that, just to preserve their own godly existence. If they had some dignity they would have told Kratos that his brother was alive after Ares died and it is mentioned that Zeus didn’t want Deimos to suffer. Ares had his own plans. If Kratos saved Deimos after killing Ares, he could have made amends with the god’s provided they told him the truth, but since they didn’t Kratos was completely infuriated.

Bro imagine being so respected that the Ghost of Sparta gets on a knee and asks you to bless his weapon. Makes you realize how much Kratos respects brok not only as a blacksmith but as a friend as well
I love how Kratos had forged a sort of brotherhood with Brok. Despite his mannerisms, Brok (and Sindri) was a bro to Kratos. Aided him without any sort of reward.
Its abit more subtle than that. She frowns when she sees the Omega logo, Krato's logo, symbol for War (as Kratos points out in the previous game). its easy to miss, but she then makes a movement and changes the bloods shape to the lambda symbol, this is the symbol of Sparta in the god of war games (on the Spartan shields). This weapon was made for Kratos, not for the God of War, it was to represent him and his "nature". Kratos never wanted to be a god, godhood was something he always resented. but being a Spartan? who he is, to his core. Now this is extremely subtle, but the move set of the spear is actually exactly the same moveset you get with the spear in God of War: Ghost of Sparta.
"may it be put down when its job is done" is possibly my favorite line. Kratos has been fighting for forever, and has had weapons forced on him for a long time, picking them up just to continue his massacre of the gods. It's nice that this weapon isn't meant for endless carnage like everything else he wielded, but to protect atreus long enough so that he can survive by himself. That there is hope for Kratos to find peace.
Kratos and Brok’s friendship is one of the best in the two games. First impressions, both were skilled in their own profession and showed a mutual respect for their crafts. Then when Atreus gets sick, Brok offers to help Kratos without a second thought. Then it comes full circle as the here where Kratos helps Brok when he realizes he’s missing his soul.
9:17. I find it so impressive that Kratos just knows what to do to summon the spear from the ring. No instructions. No asking for instructions. Just understanding that the weapon is summoned by his own will.
One absolutely AMAZING detail that I don't see anyone talking about this scene is when the Lady of the Forge extracted the blood of Kratos. When she viewed the nature of Kratos, it formed into the symbol of War, signifying Kratos' status as a God of War, and a destroyer. She frowns, either unsatisfied with what this weapon may be used for, or the nature of Kratos, or perhaps something else we would never understand. Instead, she changes the symbol from War, to Unity (The Capital Lambda, which in Spartan lore meant Unity), and infused it into the spear. I'm not sure what this would imply or how it changed Kratos' fate and nature, but I certainly find it a very interesting detail nonetheless.
I think it's more about reading the origin of the blood. Kratos is both a god of war and a Spartan, so both symbols of his heritage appeared. It was probably more like a sign of surprise. A god from very VERY far away ending up here, in her home, needing a weapon.
Fuck, nobody mentions the real point. Something needs to be blessed toward a God. This blessing needs to be of means that approve to a God. The mermaid didn't fuckin know kratos. It needed to be Brok. Brok accepted Kratos as a good God here.
It's the small kindnesses that Kratos gives that show how much he has changed, in his youth he never would have bothered with such a thing, but now a God of War knelt and asked for the blessing of a small blacksmith.
"may it strike true, may it be wielded with wisdom, may it be put down when the job is done" an amazing blessing, it is the new motto for kratos in the franchise, no longer fighting whatever is in the way, and just wanting to get the job done so he can rest, so there can be peace
Why do I think that all the obstacles that Kratos and Brok encountered were Sindri's doing? He was already worried when he went to get the ring. And after Brok insists on going the gate suddenly gets blocked. Even the crank was missing a lever. I don't think coincidence cut it.
I love how Kratos does a thoughtful "hmm". The Nature sounds a lot like Plato's Form. Its abstract and exists beyond space and time and is intangible until someone makes it.
Scenes like this in 10:30 where a character gets the respect, value and recognition they have always deserved will never cease to put a smile in my face
@@VideoGameSophistryyou can be told you’re special and still feel worthless. Kratos showed/reminded him he is valued and worthy of respect and honor. That he was still a man of worth and character regardless of what he is missing. That’s more than feeling special it’s many times what brings people back from the edge.
After living a life filled with betrayals and backstabbings, it’s nice that Kratos is able to get so close to someone who basically always says how he feels.
I will forever love this moment in gaming because of what it truly represents. Kratos as a character has rarely ever shown anyone any form of respect and Brok as a character rarely receives any respect in comparison to his brother due to his nature, his colorful choice of language, and his overall abrasive personality. Kratos as warrior and a God taking the knee and presenting Brok, a meer blacksmith, with with a weapon said smith forged for the smith's humble blessing, forsaking the blessing of a truly powerful being in which said blacksmith respected since childhood it's something absolutely powerful to watch. Kratos by doing this and saying the phrase " it is the nature of a thing that matters, not its form" proves that not only Kratos was listening to Brok, but also values the blessing of Brok more than that of a legendary being. This act of pure humility and respect from Kratos shows that he is fully acknowledging the work that Brok (and by minor extension Sindri) has done throughout the entirety of their friendship. Rather than forcing the idea of finding another person to bless the spear, he chooses to humbly ask Brok, someone that would be considered lower than most beings around himself, for a blessing which would only be a blessing of meer words due to Brok's lack of a soul piece. Brok even fully acknowledges that his blessing would only be that of words but Kratos wants it anyway. You can really see that in Brok's face and in needing to take a few moments to compose himself that he is moved so thoroughly by Kratos's request his voice even breaks. Both never say thank you, and both just nod. Brok never even brags to Sindri about this which proves that he values this as a treasure beyond any act or words of praise from any God before Kratos. Even Mimir seems speechless by the act of pure respect from Kratos towards Brok and all three men take this as a private moment between the two and don't tell anyone about the blessing. I wish during the final moments of the game that Kratos or Mimir could have said some final words about treasuring Brok blessing during the funeral so Sindri would known that some part of Brok still exists and is treasured by Kratos himself. But then again Kratos is a man of few words and idk if Mimir would have thought it was the right time to mention it. But overall a truly powerful moment.
This one of the most emotionally endearing moments in gaming, having kratos show his respect of Brock like this to kneel and ask for his blessing is just idek how to word it, this game is spectacular and brok is definitely my favorite character in GOW aside from kratos and Atreus
11:08 even though it gets brighter in that room because they’re reaching the surface, the lighting on him as he starts blessing the spear just looks so dope and the timing of it was on point🔥
It's crazy how many characters in God of War 2018 and 2022 had a growth in their character arc. Brok, of all Kratos ally, died a warrior's death when he was only a blacksmith. Kratos kneel down to get his blessing. Kratos which so many ridiculed as a monster becomes a God which people loved and respected. Sindri which starts as a comic relief character become a character you can't help to feel sorry at the end. Freya forgave Kratos and becomes his trusted ally. Kratos finally let go of Atreus and let him do what he needs to do on his own. Literally every character had their character arc perfected in the end.
Kratos’ asking for his blessing and kneeling for him meant more to Brok than a thousand Mjiolnirs. Both because he was a God of War that kneeled to no one, and a friend, that respects him and sees him like family. Tears.
There are a lot of great parts about this whole deal. But the best is that Kratos just learned about how dwarven magic works a little while ago on the ride up. Not only was he paying attention, and listening, but also able to comprehend and apply that knowledge.
Man the level of storytelling that Santa Monica uses here is the highest level it gets in games, right up there with Last of Us and Souls games. Look at the expression of the Lady when she is forging the spear. An expression of excitement shows of her face as she completes Draupnir, you can tell this ancient master of weapons-craft is creating something special and impressive, even for her. And it makes it all the more exciting to wield it.
The Blades of Chaos: Weapons from his troubled history, forever following him. The Past. The Leviathan Axe: A weapon gifted to him by his wife for the life he has chosen to live for his son. The Present. The Draupnir Spear: A weapon forged with his current bonds to prevent the death of his loved ones, and pave the way to a better tomorrow regardless of prophecy. The Future. Kratos now holds his own past, present and future in his own hands.
Man the blessing of Draupnir scene hits different after well what happens... Sindri and Brok were such great side characters along with everyone else like Mimir especially in the first game. Their personalities just mixed in so well with the dynamics of the story.

LOL "fuck-knuckles!" I'm TOTALLY gonna start using that! 😆 Also, notice how when the Lady takes Kratos's blood, it first transforms into the original GOW symbol, then turns Nordic? Cool!
That's not a Nordic symbol that's the lambda symbol that's on Spartan Shields, the lady basically tracked the origin of the blood which is the God of war but before that it was a soldier of Sparta
When Brok said "F**k" he knew that he died once and Sindri kept this secret the whole time but now....Brok died twice by Odin and there's no chance to bring him back again to gather his soul parts in the lake of souls...only thing to do now is by paying respect for our great blacksmith who's been everywhere.

I like how the Lady seemed surprised to see that Kratos is a Greek God of War.
It seems she was able to... read blood of sorts, seeing her watching it intently as it changed shape.
Lol yup she was probably thinking, "woah, wtf are YOU doing here? Greek God of War no less, oh well blood is blood I guess."🤣
Shes like " ayo tf this greek god doing here, well fuck it change it to norse then "
@@sunayocarissime5309 I think Kratos being a powerful god of war, and a Spartan, whose people specialises in spears, his blood made the spear extra powerful.
“Oh you’re Greek huh? Well, maybe you appreciate this little red cloth”
From “I don’t run errands for dwarfs” to kneeling before Brok to ask for a blessing on the new spear. What an arc for both characters.
I got tears when God of War himself kneel down to Brok for his blessing. Such a heart warming scene🥹.

Truly a good blessing for a weapon. And he claimed he couldn't bless for shit.
@@glenpope4955 He doesn't give himself enough credit, it is not a long or elaborate blessing, but it is a good blessing regardless.
I really do love that final line especially because it very specifically speaks to kratos as a person. He knows kratos only fights when necessary and so blessed the spear with that purpose, it’s kind of the opposite of the blades of chaos which are eternally tied to kratos even if it’s against his will.

I love how Kratos had forged a sort of brotherhood with Brok. Despite his mannerisms, Brok (and Sindri) was a bro to Kratos. Aided him without any sort of reward.
The Lady's face immediately changed to see Kratos' blood with the Omega logo.
@@lordofudead Woah, that flew over my head but now I see it! Jeez!

3:32 "aw fuck-knuckles" lmao
🤣🤣🤣 yea I cracked up when he said that
This scene was so amazing it really built a bigger friendship between Kratos and Brok. Kratos in the end saw late Brok as a FAMILY.
Kratos really got him with the nature quote.
Kratos is so compassionate and loving in this scene. It brought me to tears the first time I watched it.
"May it be put down when it's job is done." That line more than anything gets me.
Blades of Chaos: A symbol of his vengeance
Leviathan Axe: A symbol of parenthood.
Draupnir: A reminder of his Spartan ways.
9:17. I find it so impressive that Kratos just knows what to do to summon the spear from the ring. No instructions. No asking for instructions. Just understanding that the weapon is summoned by his own will.
Brok blessing the spear is one of my favourtie moments in the entire game it brought me to tears, such a moving scene
RIP to a real one
It's the sparta symbol
@@kennyxie1879 Yes that's what they said. Lambda is the name of the Spartan symbol
No, a great blacksmith.

an amazing blessing, it is the new motto for kratos in the franchise, no longer fighting whatever is in the way, and just wanting to get the job done so he can rest, so there can be peace

"It is the nature of a thing that matters, not its form." Damn thats a new life quote
11:08 even though it gets brighter in that room because they’re reaching the surface, the lighting on him as he starts blessing the spear just looks so dope and the timing of it was on point🔥
that scene was so wholesome their friendship is so sweet too bad it ended abruptly
This actually made me cry, even though I don't cry easily...
Kratos’ asking for his blessing and kneeling for him meant more to Brok than a thousand Mjiolnirs. Both because he was a God of War that kneeled to no one, and a friend, that respects him and sees him like family.
Tears.
“I have met many on my travels. You are one of the few I would call friend."
