      Wow, didnt see that parallel.
      When Kratos was telling that story, it's pretty dreadful to think he was the one who killed hephastus, essentially, Kratos understands now or rather is almost sounding remorseful for it and is owning up to it kinda. Another essential take to his arc as a character in these games. Amazing writing and fanfair.

      @@giagarex yes, he did respect Athena until The Evils of Pandora's Box corrupted her with Greed and she tricked him so she could be The Sole Ruler of Greece. Which was why in some ways Kratos mentioned to Freya and Mimir that War Deities shouldn't be highly praised because of him being used by Ares and then Athena when they were talking about Tyr.

      Yeah. I also think why he's talking about his past is because at this point in time, almost every god in norse mythology knows of Kratos too for most part. Although, I do think that he's being more open to relate to Freya, Atreus, and Mimir. Fascinating stuff really, how he mentions to Freya about how he was tricked into killing his family, let alone became the embodiment of their ashes. Also how he talks about how he used to have a brother too. Pretty cool stuff ngl

    Finally Deimos got a huge name drop and exposition. I feel like he is a big part of Kratos story and never gets the spotlight because GoS was a spin off game, for the PSP, but he got quite a well deserved exposure here

      He was a selectable skin on GoW3 but you'd need to have owned GoS (IIRC). Was really fun to clear all of the game as Deimos and especially when Zeus told (to Gaia) that she should've chosen the "other one" lol

      Literally one of the best dialogue callbacks to previous GOW games. On top of that, just imagine in Kratos' whole arsenal, if he kept the Bow of Apollo specifically so he gives it to Atreus. He'd be too op with it or seeing Kratos continue to use the Wings of Icarus, the game will be a lot shorter if he still had those

    4:10 I kind of adore the subtlety of this statement. Freya swore pure and utter revenge against Kratos for killing her son, promising every agony possible. In this moment, not only does she realize that Kratos understands that exact emotion but that it is the very thing that made him unfathomably infamous.
    Freya just realized that Kratos DID exact his revenge on those that killed his daughter. He destroyed ALL OF OLYMPUS and DEALT EVERY AGONY IMAGINABLE on them. Freya made furious threats that Kratos had already followed through on and regrets to this day. He has wisdom beyond her that she HAS to respect.

      @@LETHALHAMBURGER well, after killing Clotho Kratos had control of not only his thread of life, but also everyone else's. He could've killed everyone in his path and even see his own future. Also, one of the reasons I believe he cannot be killed is because Atropos is dead, thus there's no one to cut his thread of life.

    There is another Greek reference in this game, while hearing the story of how Frayer while being a guest to the Aesiers almost got him burned by them, Kratos gets surprised/offended after hearing that story because in greek tradition treating your guest horribly can bring bad omen to you.

      Xenia (hospitality) was one of the virtues Greek respected the most. Sure Vikings can kill the offending host but xenia for Greeks were more than that.
      If a stranger shows up, before they even ask him where one is from. The host would give them food and a shower before conversating with the stranger.

    At least we learned why Kratos didn’t keep the powers he had. When Greece was destroyed most of the magic of it died too. So Kratos only retained his strength and endurance and his blades retain their magic likely because it was infused into it.

      Well we don't really know much about the Blades of Chaos only that Ares forged them so its possible he used primoridial fire from the Norse lands. It would explain how Surtur used their magic and why it was still around ever after Greece was destroyed, and since their origins were told in the first game its possible they may have just retconned them. I mean the first game was meant to be the only one since Kratos was watching over all mankinds war includeing the modern World Wars.

      @@digitaladventurer2142 Except two things to contradict it. One Brok called them reeking of foreign magic. Two Freya said no magic in all of the Nine Realm could cause a blaze in Helheim. So maybe Primordial forces are similar between Pantheons. So while Kratos’ blades aren’t of the Nine Realms the fire magic in them is similar to the same primordial fire magic in Muspellheim.

    Atleast they gave an explanation as to why kratos can't use magic anymore. In the old Greek novels kratos was capable of using magic and spells in the actual lore for gow. I remember in the gow comic based on after kratos became the god of war, he cast a spell that summoned the heat of the sun and used it to vaporize an island sized titan. Atleast they explain why he only has super strength and no other powers. I always thought kratos could learn Freya's magic or Odin's magic but now they explained he literally can't cast spells because of Olympus being destroyed

      No only the powers he gained from Greece. He can’t use the power he gained over his years in Greece. As Freya said Magic is bound to the earth. So when Greece and it’s gods destroyed their power vanished. And Kratos likely wouldn’t want to learn Vanir magic as Atreus and Freya already know it. And I would see him having the discipline but not the patience to want to sit down and learn it.

      Theirs a lot of minor Gods Kratos didn’t kill, even Aphrodite and Athena are still alive but theirs a bunch of minor gods he never encountered. I wonder how they’re all holding up, if they managed to bring Greece back or if not how their managing with its wreckage. He left his God Killing Sword on Mount Olympus that was holding his power, so their is reason to go back if they ever want to take it.

    Especially calliope.
    Not only did he kill her, but pushed her away when they were in paradise to stop persephone. Forever forsaking her to the point she doesn't even play the flute he made for her anymore. That was one of the hardest things I saw kratos do.
    Because his actions did save Olympus and the gods, and also paradise so that her soul would be safe, and yet it was for nought because they betrayed him.
    Honestly kratos didn't deserve such pain.
    Unlike Freya, kratos knows more of the pain of losing your loved ones then she did.

    I love the environmental storytelling when Odin confronts Kratos after the spear is made Kratos can be seen openly holding the spear. His intent clear and open while Odin stand in front of and between two spears. Showing that he speaks but hides his intent. That intent always bringing ruin to those in his way. Then, when he speaks about Loki/Atreus he picks up a set of tongs and talks like he's proud of what he's had Loki/Atreus achieve, as if he is a tool to be used. Then he throws the tongs to the side, showing that he has no regard for the things he uses. All the while lying through his teeth. And lying to himself

      Kratos actually had far more magic than just that if you read the novel. He was stripped of it by Zeus when Zeus attacked him in his spirit form and kratos stabbed himself with blade of Olympus imbuing the remaining power he had in it and shooting it into the sky leaving him with only his super strength and durability.

    That scene where Odin poked at Kratos's godhood is ironic. All of Sparta prayed to him for victory, and for salvation when Zeus attacked them. He cared about his people, the Spartans, for his family, both old and new, and his friends. And after he was tricked into killing his wife and daughter he rarely killed without reason. Most of his kills were because they obstructed his quest for revenge.

    It’s funny when oden and kratos speaks, Odin mentions a key to peace. Kratos experienced a little someone who was also a key 👀👀. Also when Odin asks if they ever have metaphors in his homeland. It was funny cuz Metaphors is a word that originated from Greece.🤣

      Given his knowledge, Odin could have been actually referencing the Laconian region where Sparta was as the Spartans were traditionally more focused on war than philosophy or debate.

    what freya and Mimir said about the threads of time, has me more convinced that each "land" is actually a separate world altogether. With each pantheon knowing of each other but refuse to interact. Until Tyr came along that is.

      In the playstation version of shovel knight kratos makes an appearance Gow Director Cory barlog confirmed this as being canon in the Gow universe and yacht club games confirmed this as canon in the shovel knight universe
