    i dont understand. why did he not die in the end? what was that plot about.

      I think it was a potential alternative end of events if Kratos and Atreus did not find a way to understand and trust each other. I believe Kratos death would come out as a consequece of Atreus unmature behavior and Kratos throwing everything to save him.

      it was odin lying in atreus' hands not kratos.

      It was about the whole destiny discussion throughout the game, consequences of your own choices being more important than some notion of predestination. Kratos did not make the same kind of choices at the end that he had been making throughout his life, avoiding that fate. Odin did not stop and did not change, thus his fate was sealed. The scene with the Norns made this point clear and Odin laying in Atreus's arms at the end was a nice callback to the mural Kratos thought was for himself.

      Mimir: Because the series was called "Mega Man dies at the end" not "Kratos dies at the end"!
