Happy Anniversary! By the way, there was a possibility for DK Jr. to make his appearance in Donkey Kong Land as a citizen. Also, what makes more sense why the Kremlings steal the Banana Hoard is mainly out of spite. King K. Yes! You finally did it and I can't begin to tell you how glad I am. This game deserves to have it's 30th anniversary commemorated. It's the game that MADE Rare. Before this game was made and released Rare might as well not have existed even though the company was 9 years old in 1994. Thanks so much. I also got some video ideas for next year. You can make one commemorating the 40th anniversary of Rare themselves since they started in 1985. You can give a history lecture on them. Also next year marks the 20th anniversaries of both Perfect Dark Zero and Conker: Live & Reloaded so maybe do videos on them. But most importantly next November in 2025 make on commemorating the 30th anniversary of DKC 2. Fans will definitely want that one considering it's more loved than even the first game. There's no end the possibilities.
2 mysteries to me are the creation of the mines and the ruins. The mines look very old and long abandoned. The Kremlings are a recently invading force, so they didn't make them. The 2nd world is called Monkey Mines, but the present Kong family has nothing to do with mines. The ruins are adorned with sculptures of Kremlings, but the Kremlings showing up is recent, so did they used to live on DK Island, leave, and come back? I also wanna see what's inside Cranky's Cabin and Funky's Flights. There's multiple buildings in the trilogy we never see the inside of, and I wish I could visit that universe and look around.
I'll tell you the mad thing about DKC being 30 years old! I know kids today still play it and talk about it. When this game came out myself and others were not talking about or even knowing what was popular with our parents 30 years prior!!
Crocodiles eat fruits and veggies to add vitamins and fiber to their diet. More or less depending on the species. So yeah, bananas could be on their menu.
I mean if you think about it Candy has her custom barrel for saving as well. But this would have taken a lot of time to put them all over the island. Thats why I say Cranky.
I think that the names of the Kongs are actually titles of the royal Kong bloodline, that change as they age. That explains why the original Donkey changed to Cranky on the Country games. That also explains why Jr. appear alongside present day Donkey in some games, as present day Jr. can't be his dad right? So its like: DK Jr. to Donkey Kong to Cranky Kong as they age. So the Donkey Kong Island is the inherited Country of the Donkey royal bloodline and they are charged with it's protection. That's also why they hoard so many bananas - probably the product of tax collection.

I may have an answer for the whole "barrel" thing I feel like Barrels in general are just average tools that Kongs have used over their lifetime. I don't think Cranky was the reason why they became obsessed with em. For example at the DK area at Super Nintendo World, in the Golden Temple section we can see hieroglyphics on the wall, depicting a Kong throwing barrels, which means they have been used since the Ancient Kong era (I'm pretty sure there are more examples of this, this is just what I can think of rn). I think this might also explain the magical properties they seem to have, I know Cranky is really smart but I don't think he created floating barrels n stuff. But that's not all, remember Bluster Kong? He is the CEO of "Bluster's Barrelworks", a factory specifically made to manufacture barrels. We only ever see one factory in the show, but it's not hard to believe that there are multiple factories. After Bluster's mysterious disappearance, the said factories were abandoned, they were repurposed by the Kremlings and the Manky Kongs to start their diabolical schemes.
@@MarkiplierMeatMuncher8 way to bring the same day as this video released announcement of Dk country at nintendoworld into this convo 😂😂 And I’m not sure. As far we go can go back Cranky is the first instance we have of barrels. And clearly that hyroglyph was depicting the original arcade game from the 80s. But I mean could be!
@@jiggylookback true, true. But like, I don't think it's supposed to depict the arcade game specifically. Remember in Sonic 3 when you fought Knuckles and the background depicted a mural showing Super Sonic (Or Shadow if you believe that theory) fighting Eggman? In my personal opinion it's probably a vision of the future, the Ancient Kongs heard of a prophecy that one day, one of their kind is going to climb a specific type of structure and throw down some barrels. They knew this was a very important event so they made some hieroglyphics based on what they saw.
I remember that in an old gaming magazine there was a footnote wondering about what could be on the first Donkey Kong face from where you move to start the first world. To this day, it stills haunts me XD
That space burned me up for *years* as a kid. I had a false memory of starting there and some level with treadmills and giant rats. idk if I dreamed it or what, but back then, I thought it was like... a tutorial level that only played the first time you played the cartridge or something. Years later messing around with emulation I was like, "Oh hey I can finally go check out that level." Yeah, no, that level does not exist. lol
Sometimes a cameo is just a cameo. As for why K. Rool steals the banana hoard, I always figured it's an act of dominance. Like how in The Hobbit, Smaug steals all the Dwarves' treasure, but can't really use it. But it displays his power and dominance. And since the characters in DKC are animals, they don't really need more reason than that.
@@scottmccurdy6493 in Rare they place lots of Cameos and it can mean further connections. It’s yet another reference between worlds that are seemingly connected. Banjo - DK
I always had a theory that these games happen in a post-apocalyptic world where humans are gone. That would explain how barrels, crates, and especially the tire (springs) are in such rich supply. Not to mention an abandoned factory. Just a theory!
Well welcome on board! I definitely have a game theory vibe sometimes but I’m trying to be my own thing and talk about the games I love in a unique way.
The animal crates are definitely some sort of high tech magic because in 64 they don't house the animal, they transform DK _into_ Rambi and Lanky into Enguarde.
It is cazy to think that Christmas morning will be the 30th anniversary of my first time playing this absolute staple of my childhood, the first installment of my all-time favorite series. Fun fact: Rockkrocs can be killed in the Japanese version with DK's handslap.
My theory is that the rock krocs are possessed kremling corpses, and Stop and Go Station takes place in a haunted mine shaft where a great tragedy occurred many years ago.
Nice list of misteries!, actually I always have thought in the one that you mentioned in the last ones (6:56), I mean it was the "Rare's Universe" after all and Diddy must meet Banjo due to Diddy Kong Racing and also maybe Conker too? (still it would be hilarious if they discover in how Conker changed with the ages, lol!). Anyway, still there is another mystery or more like a logical question that I always wondered with the bananas and is: Do they gets rot at somepoint?, I mean are organic fruit, I wonder how never get rot in the cave?.
You should definitely watch my Mapping the Rare Universe video. I cover tons and tons of connections and go through the diddy Kong racing stuff and explain it all.
Idk I feel like the cameo in GBTG of EnGarde and the Banjo and Kazooie heads are meant to be nothing more than cameos rather than the characters actually being dead. As far as we know there are plenty of swordfish in the sea so could be any of them. Either that or it's just a fake plaque/statue or whatever you call those things you'd hang on a wall with the plastic fish on them.
Pretty sure Donkey Kong Jr. IS Donkey Kong, I mean, it'd make no sense for DK to be an adult, cranky to be old, and there SOMEHOW being another kong between DK and cranky, that'd make cranky at least 130 years old...
@@jiggylookback the game actually doesn't say anything lol. the manual does. you would never get this tidbit from the game alone so I wouldn't consider it
The banana answer is the plot of my movie adaptation idea: K. Rool and his kremlin minions "steal" the banana horde from D.K. and he tries to get it back. Twist: the bananas aren't bananas but gold ingots from K. Rools pirate treasure that D.K. stole years earlier and K. Rool was trying to find him to get them back! They're just shaped as bananas to disguise them.
Yes that makes sense because characters can do things like hide in paintings. Glad someone got the 3 generations of Kongs correct. I mean of course Magic is possible in the world of the Kongs because this is the Mario World. I don't think Diddy was narrating. The huts are probably remnant of the Kong civilization.
Good video! A classic game! I first played it as a kid and still love it! It kept the SNES going for a little while longer! So not sure if canon, but in "DK Jungle Climber", K. Rool explicitly states that he _hates_ bananas, so my theory is that he just wanted the bananas to mess with the Kongs for the sole reason that he just doesn't like them.
I always found Rockroc weird because the manual states they camouflage and sneak attack you. They don't do that, they're very noticeable, and they only appear in stop and go station. I mean they do somewhat blend with the background but aren't very sneaky about it, nor deliberately target you. They do seem to curl into a rock like appearance when stopped and can be defeated by DK's hand slap move while curled in the GBA version only. Could Rockroc have had a further purpose in earlier builds or proposals of the game?
1:00 Look at the top of the boat - the tip of the sail is overlapping the 'frame' of the picture. I don't think it's a picture at all, and that could in fact be a fish tank built-in to the wall, with a model ship hanging on the front of it. (The other thing I have to mention is the humour of DK having empty banana skins strewn about the floor as if they were Budweiser cans - or your analogous beer of choice).
Very well could be. Some people were saying it’s a view of outside and I’ve been pointing out the ship comes out over that frame. Fish tank, picture. Whatever it is it looks weird haha but I kinda want one.
@ Here’s another thing-you were saying how all the boss rooms contain a million bajillion bananas; well when you look at DK’s restored banana collection… they’re a little on the big side, aren’t they? So maybe it wasn’t really ordinary bananas that were in his hoard at all, but rather the BIG bananas that you get when you beat the boss. Potentially there could have been as many bosses as there are bananas in DK’s cave in the end. But DK doesn’t have to fight for every single banana at that point, obviously, because once K. Rool was defeated, they had to give the whole lot back up.
I remember that the Roc Krocs are Kritters and they were curse in the mines and turn into a crocodile golem and calling them Roc Kroc. Let’s see if you do part 2 and 3 of Donkey Kong Country sequel’s
I’m pretty sure that DKCR established that the bananas have magical properties, didn’t it? It’s been awhile since I played it (or any of the DKC games for that matter), so I could be wrong. But I head-canoned that that’s why they can float in the air, and are used in the various barrels to get them to do all that they do. Also, was the factory actually made by the Kremlins? I always figured that humans had at one point inhabited the island but had since abandoned it, and they were the ones that originally made the factory. There had to be _some_ kind of human interaction in order to have the arcade games happen, after all. And back then I assumed that the pollution from that factory is what caused all the animals in the game to gain the sapience that they have, along with the other biological quirks that they have (like the bosses being giants, etc)…though I guess the magic bananas could be used as an explanation for all that now. Or perhaps it’s some combination of the two.
@jiggylookback it can be annoying with Diddy because manky kong take 2 hits to defeat with the jump attack. I say this because of the handful of rom hacks out there in that version. Amazing all these years later and people create a new adventure out of an old game.
They did but then the devs said Cranky was senile and forgot it was his grandson lol. I’ve always been in the camp of this is his son, but it’s a big debate.
@@jiggylookback Nintendo seem to want to keep DK as Cranky's son though since that's how they are also depicted in the Mario movie. Funny though since at first Diddy was a redesign of Jr.

It is cazy to think that Christmas morning will be the 30th anniversary of my first time playing this absolute staple of my childhood, the first installment of my all-time favorite series. Fun fact: Rockkrocs can be killed in the Japanese version with DK's handslap.
Oh they can in the Japanese version? I knew in the GbA but was unaware of the Japanese version. Thats dope!
dk jr being a math teacher is the best theory ive heard about the kong's family tree
I thought it was funny lol
@@jiggylookback its kinda wholesome too
It is.
Here we goooooo!!!
The Treetops are actually the Village Of The Ewoks.😂😂😂😂
In Banjo-Kazooie, specifically in the Click Clock Wood level, you can find a very familiar beaver called Gnawty, just like the boss in DKC :)
Yes 100%!! You should watch my mapping the rare universe video it’s just filled with all these connections!!
The tree top huts are on Endor, you can't convince me otherwise.
My theory is that the rock krocs are possessed kremling corpses, and Stop and Go Station takes place in a haunted mine shaft where a great tragedy occurred many years ago.
That’s an interesting theory
I mean we know Kremlings have ghosts and stuff…I like the idea
Wow, I didn’t even notice Kongs face in the mountains until this video 🤯
I don’t know if I’d wanna live on an island in the shape of my head 😐
I mean do you have a weird shaped head? I do. The island would look very bizarre lol
Wonderful video! Hope you make 2 and 3 as well.
Surprised the eyes on the trees didn't make it here lol
I always thought the Tree top huts where some kind of abandon Star Wars Ewok asset just reused
For sure. But me making a rip splash screen was funnier. It’s definitely just a nod to it.
@jiggylookback Fair. XD
Yes..
And happy 30th anniversary….
Donkey Kong..
I always thought that the gnawtys where the habitants of the tree top village lol
@@jonathanalberto-nx6lu I like to think Banjo gave us insight into the Gnawty’s homes. Underwater into trees!

Oh wait.. someone alright got it.... DAMN IT!
Pretty sure Donkey Kong Jr. IS Donkey Kong, I mean, it'd make no sense for DK to be an adult, cranky to be old, and there SOMEHOW being another kong between DK and cranky, that'd make cranky at least 130 years old...
Yeah I think the same thing personally but I mean the game says otherwise
@@jiggylookback the game actually doesn't say anything lol. the manual does. you would never get this tidbit from the game alone so I wouldn't consider it
@@Saetta06 🤣 umm k.
Another mystery: what's the story of Manky kong? why he has hatred toward donkey?
@@pd9163 sort of covered in this. They were rejected from the Kong family for their savagery
@@jiggylookback and Manky never returned to the game sequels DKC2 and DKC3
The banana answer is the plot of my movie adaptation idea: K. Rool and his kremlin minions "steal" the banana horde from D.K. and he tries to get it back. Twist: the bananas aren't bananas but gold ingots from K. Rools pirate treasure that D.K. stole years earlier and K. Rool was trying to find him to get them back! They're just shaped as bananas to disguise them.
Love it!
Could very well be. Another theory is they are magical.
Ahhh yes. This just made my entire day
3:50 if we add some realism, there's no point in gathering that much bananas. You'd probably be able to eat 2% of them before they go black
@@zvenniejackblue3362 yeah. A little over the top.
Unless they’re magic. Which is possible.
I can't believe it's been 30 years already. I was 15 when it came out. God I feel old. 😅
Don’t we all? Lol
The GOAT talking about the APE! ❤ 🫡 Great video! (Love the Manky Kong theory, lol)
Thank you sir!! Happy to talk about the Ape!!
Rare has stated that the reason K. Rool wants the banana hoard is so the Kongs will starve to death so K. Rool can move into DK's house.
Where? Legit asking cause I’ve never seen or heard where they said that
I always found Rockroc weird because the manual states they camouflage and sneak attack you.
@@1337gamer15 most likely, it’s cool in the gba version you can defeat them.
@@jiggylookback They can actually also be killed in the Japanese version of DKC as well in the same way.
0:55 I say that’s Roysten, before his scales turned orange for the events of B-K and B-T. 🤓🤓 #RarespiracyTheories
Donkey Kong Country... Let's Ride!!!!
I remember that the Roc Krocs are Kritters and they were curse in the mines and turn into a crocodile golem and calling them Roc Kroc. Let’s see if you do part 2 and 3 of Donkey Kong Country sequel’s
I will at some point! :)
Most underrated channel on youtube
Thank you!!! I’m trying!
love this, great detail
Not only do the piranhas look similar to those in banjo kazooie but also the sharks look like the one in treasure trove cove (in my opinion at least)
Yes 100% I noticed it too. They certainly look similar to snacker, but the piranha are like identical! Definitely a nod to country in banjo I’d say.
That title theme always gets me excited
True!!
It makes more sense that Jr. is the modern DK. Cranky didn't raise him in a barn.
@@BlueLightning09 I agree
@@awkwardsilence4427 love this kind of talk.
If you haven’t seen my mapping the rare universe video..it gets into stuff like that.
DK jr, made an appearance in Mario tennis 64. A playable character.
True.
The rockroc enemies in the Japanese version of the game actually can be defeated in the stop position with the ground pound attack
Also in the gba version I believe. Shame we didn’t get it in the other version.
@jiggylookback it can be annoying with Diddy because manky kong take 2 hits to defeat with the jump attack. I say this because of the handful of rom hacks out there in that version. Amazing all these years later and people create a new adventure out of an old game.
I have been wondering who built and inhabited the old temples 😁
Not the tie wearing monkey that rides a rhino.. It's the fish swimming in a painting that makes no sense to this guy
Obviously
Justice for the Mankey Kong tribe!!!
We do play as DK Jr. They retconned it in DK64 so it makes more sense.
@ THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I ALWAYS SAY AND 90% of the internet comes against me and says “the movie doesn’t count”.
My argument is always well Miyamoto’s opinion counts and he’s the one who went that route for the movie.
