0:40 I’ve never considered how useful a setup like this would be. Having some windows for pro work apps on the monitor, and the iPad functioning as a touch input screen being able to draw and interact with the pencil and sketches run locally on the same device is wild. This is incredible.
🐬 As someone who uses the iPad Pro as a main device (I’m a Computer Science Student), i am still very disappointed with the iPad Pro as a whole for multiple reasons. #1-iPadOS is way too handicapped. #1A-I can’t use apps Wireshark, BitTorrent, Terminal, or Xcode/IDEs, all of which i need for school. #1B-Most OS provided tools are so simple: No Audio MIDI and other very handy tools you get on MacOS #2-Consequently, lots of Apps/Services look at the iPad as a secondary device, and they limit their software capabilities accordingly (Like Recording a Zoom Call, or use plugins). #3-The Hardware: #3A-FaceTime Camera placement makes it look like you’re always distracted on Zoom calls; #3B-Magic Keyboard: No Function keys row, Sometimes it just stops accepting input and forces you to restart the iPad; #3C- Only 1 TypeC Port

@@YousefHaidary I already have one Joe
@@YousefHaidarypple could fix this if they wanted to, but they don’t. They’re protecting MacBook sales by restricting the iPad. How evil is that ?
Although I think it’s apt time Apple thinks of the iPad Pro as a pro tool and make the differences significant
@@DeusEx.Machina 💀? If you got an iPad, let alone an iPad Pro for CS, you would have gotten it for written work like maths, project management, and homework worksheets in general. It’s a specialized item for written work, art, and media consumption. If you’re trying to code on it, let alone code on a dedicated app instead of a website like CodeSandbox and only for in-a-pinch situations or trying to use it as a main device (and not just as a sole device to use on lighter days), you’re messin up.
M1 iPad Pro 13" main computer user, so thank you for every good video! Write down a few things you would like to see. 1. What I always regret about using the trackpad is that I hope I get used to the "three finger drag" and apply it to my iPad. 2. Internal sound device selection - using a 4k monitor, the sound is always connected to the monitor. I wish I could choose from an iPad speaker. 3. Generating a sound mute button on the Safari tab. I hope you can play multiple videos at the same time.🐬
I love my iPad and use it a lot, but as someone who also uses Windows, I feel like window management on an iPad is such a chore; it’s like the software won’t get out of my way. I desperately miss being able to snap windows left and right by dragging to the side, or being able to minimise/maximise windows with a single click. It’s bizarre that Apple are reinventing the wheel here when most people seeking out and using Stage Manager are going to be power users that don’t mind a bit of complexity. Let us open more than 4 apps in a single workspace. Don’t hide the window management under the three dots. Etc etc. I look at Windows 11 on Surface or DeX on Samsung or even MacOS on a MacBook and question why Apple won’t grant iPad users the same level of freedom.
Always the reason is : money. If Apple make IPadOS work like MacOS then nobody will buy 2 or 3 device from them. Apple just want to keep people buying MacBook and IPad at the same time.
that argument only makes sence from a ugly ritch horrible person american consumer standpoint. in the rest of the world WE DONT BUY TWO DEVICES WE ONLY BUY ONE, and IPAD IS MORE EXPENSIVE. so your argument doesnt hold watter
Having many windows open are way over rated.
Its always about money. Apple deliberately sabotages their own ipad to improve sales of other mac devices and comes up with more compatibility problems to force you to buy more apple products to link to ea h other. In the future you probably won't even be able to hook apple to external monitors that aren't apple. They always try to make things the apple way which is really just some rehash of something that's been out forever.. seriously the widget update that has been out on everything else for like a decade... glorifying app shortcuts scattered on desktop instead of on a windows start menu is what ipad is. All everyone wants is mac os on ipad or at least the option to do so.
Got the air 5 cheap on Black Friday. I study CS and the taking notes process has been so far good. It’s also an absolute overkill with the m1 chip in it. But I’m not sure if I keep mine yet. Surfing on it with the Logitech combo touch is ok, but I already encountered some silly limitations. I got one MacBook Pro from 2017 and a beefy asus tuf gaming laptop that is thin and actually portable as well. I like having “freedom” on a device. Apple could totally make an macOS lite at least but the gatekeep their devices. Same with the fact that they still sell 8gb ram models as an entry level, which is totally not enough these days and there are many videos and reviews that proof this.
I’ve been iPad only for a couple years now and I get by just fine.Looking forward to setting up my home screen.
Same. I’ve been iPad only for 5 or 6 years and it serves me just fine, and I’m a power user. The only thing I wish I could do more easily is emulate retro games. I used to have to jailbreak, but now iOS is workable and meets the needs of the vast majority of people. I feel like 80-90% of people should have an iPad instead of a computer since it’s impossible to screw it up, unless they have a specific need for a computer.
Thank you for a very well explained video. Looking forward to using Profiles to separate my work from my personal life on my iPad.
glad you took the time and edited the video properly, I'm leaving a like again for this one too. Hope you get some rest!
YaY! An updated video that shows your true talent.
Thanks for this video! I looking forward to updating to iOS 17 soon. I use my iPad as my primary computer (for now) and love all the productivity solutions you highlighted.
Mind blown by a lot of these features…thank you!
Great video! With stage manager, I use iPad more and more, looking forward to iPad OS 17
Thank you ! I have bought the new MacBook Air 15” but returned it after few days when I realized that I like my iPad Pro 12,9” much better. The apps and the working on the iPad felt quicker, smoother and more modern than the Mac. Interesting that it actually felt like going back 10 years when I moved to the Mac after getting used to the iPad.
iPad is very limited in comparison. I tried using my m2 iPad Pro as a main device for a couple days.. something as simple as a colleague sending me a spreadsheet to complete and send out was so messy to complete. Particularly saving the file, editing, and sending back. So many steps and in/out of apps to get it done. On my MacBook Air I can just open the file, edit, save, then attach and reply quickly. Plus all of the options for the OS and all the apps is nonexistent on the iPad. I am grateful the iPad ‘can’ get tasks done in a pinch when you don’t have your laptop with you, but it’s far from the quickest or most efficient way to get actual work done. For social media and media consumption, yes the iPad is superior… but for productivity and getting work done, it’s a watered down experience and very limited in comparison to a real Mac.
@@bankruptsee it’s a good point, thank you for sharing . For intensive and deep work the Mac is probably the better choice for most people.
@@yosmuc in all honesty, the iPhone can almost do everything the iPad does which has made it very difficult for me to justify my iPad purchase. I’m trying to find ways to use the iPad besides watching movies on a plane and taking notes, lol.
Just got mine in the mail today. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
I’m excited for the iPad update
Hey Fernando! Good to see you. I hope you and your family are safe and well. Thanks for another great video. I have been using my M1 iPad Pro 11 as a laptop replacement for my real estate and property management businesses since Nov. 2021, and the experience just keeps getting better and better. For me iPad OS is just a better fit for the kind of work I do. And yes, I also love Stage Manager....especially on an external monitor.
Are you able to use Microsoft office apps with ease on the iPad Pro?
@@Batman19203 I use both Word, Excel, and Outlook on my iPad Pro on a daily basis with no problems.

🐬 Really enjoying your iPad videos Fernando. Thank you and keep up the great work! 🙏
I can finally separate my work tabs from my coomer tabs nice! I've always wanted that.
Thanks for a nice overview.
I’m just about to but an iPad Pro 12.9 so the whole video was great, especially the link to Paperlike as I’d never heard of it before 👍🏼
IPad need to include eject option. My HDD become corrupted because it was still processing behind the scene when I pull the cable.
Very nicely presented - well done!
Thanks for this cool video!
My M1 12,9 iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard is the Best "Laptop", I've ever own. I bought when my friend was getting a new iPhone in 2022. I didn't even ask about how much it cost, and really glad I didn't, because I might not have made the purchase. I love how the Magic Keyboad position the screen above the key. I have low-vision and with other laptops there's always too much computer (keyboard and track pad) beteen me and the screen for it to comfortable to use.
Thanks, can’t wait
I hope iPad os fixes the bugs on mouse support, I have a Logitech pebble and it's quite buggy tbf, sometimes I need a full iPad restart for the bug to go away and on certain options I have to click multiple times. Keyboard support is perfect but mouse support is poor.
I was disappointed with my pebble mouse too. I assumed it was just because I have a little bit older gen, I have the 2nd Gen iPad pro from 2017. Maybe it works better with newer models?
Another great video! Thank you!
Are there any improvements to the file system? I find it’s not very good with exFat drives (I need something to move between Windows and mac/iOS) and also in general it’s not very smooth to use.
Great video! Could you maybe do a video on iPadOS 17 on older iPad's? F.e. the iPad Pro 10.5 inch which is still supported
Thanks so much, very thorough and a great video! I was hoping they would include in the Notes updates to allow us to type in the app, and then use the pencil to mark around that text, rather than how it creates like a drawing space and text only spaces. I know there are the text boxes, but it’s not quite ideal. Am I the only one who feels this way?
Great vid ! 🐬
I intend to purchase an iPad Pro as a laptop replacement (my laptop broke), so this video kind of helped me with finding out if it’s possible
Would it be possible to use desktop version of office(excel with pivot tables) on iPad ... given the desktop like features?
What stand is that for your iPad?
Really enjoy your videos!
What is your experience with volume control of external monitor? I have Dell monitor and I cannot control the volume when this monitor is connected and stage manager running which make it for me unusable to consume any video content...out of curiosity I did try it on Samsung DEX and there it was possible to control volume without any issues
🐬 Happy with the features they’ve included. They seem to be recognizing that there are more iPadOS power users out here!
hi, im using ipad air 4. Is it worth it to upgrade to anything so i can get the stage manager, or its just kinda like a gimmick?
The iPad has always been my main computer aside from doing cds but that was back than until Apple Music came out than I had gotten an M1 iPad Pro for my birthday last year it’s even more of a computer especially with iPados 17 I’ve noticed
🐬 I’ve been curious. Does center stage work with airplay or does the iPad default to mirroring on airplay? Thx 🙏🏻
Great review - would love to see if Autocad Revit could work on iPad Pro & then I could finally only take one device when traveling?
They need to allow different profiles like Samsung has on the S series.
Being able to put entire apps with different logins together is great.
Thanks for such a great video! I’ll need to go through it again for sure, a lot of good stuff in here! (BTW I have now turned on Stage manager!) 😉
On another note, do you have a video on how to install dmg files on an iPad Pro ? Would be grateful if you can steer me towards it if you do! Thanks again 👍
My iPad is my main work and personal device. It’s my go to for everything. I run my business from my 11inch pro. I’m delighted to see some of the updates that you’ve shown here. Thanks. Keep up your great work keeping us all informed. Looking forward to IOS17 arriving in the UK 👍

🐬thanks a lot! I would use my macbook less often but I am still struggling with the battery drain on my ipad pro m2 device
I want to main iPad Pro as my home and mobile set up, but I also want a Mac mini. What is the best remote software so I can remote into my Mac mini with my iPad?
Finally catching up to DEX. Congrats
Thank you! Any idea when or how safari articles can be clipped to be viewed entirely in notes? Like being able to view entire PDFs and annotate, this would be such a great study aid.
are those foreground only apps like video rendering apps still running if goes to stage manager background?
Hello! Just found some of your videos as Im finally back in the iPad world. Picked up the pro 12.9 intending to use it as my main computer. I don’t have any other Mac devices at the moment. Which leads me searching for seamless setup. Im just extending my iPad to a 1080 monitor. I don’t know why but nothing seems to be looking as seamless as what I see in your videos. Do you recommend needing another Mac (related) device to support the extended monitor use model? It sounds redundant considering my intent is to use what I have (for work setup - laptop + 2 extended monitors).
On the external camera topic does this mean we can turn the iPad into a portable monitor ? LinkedIn I could connect my switch to it?
Imagine a world where in 2023, you could stream two videos on an iPad at once?

Why would you ever want to do that though?

what about your ipad case? Where can i find it please?
🐬 Great video!
Where did you get that globe wallpaper on your IPad?!!
Is it now possible to select the Audio output?
I find the lack of good OCR for scanning to be odd in the stock iPhone notes app.
Great video, for me the next improvement is for the files app to work more like the Mac OS finder and being able to drag and drop files from email into files and from files to email would be great. I use outlook for work and the app is not great for productivity on iPad and the web version isn’t as smooth as the desktop app
What year are you?
You can already drag & drop files from the files app into an email since at least iPad OS15.

I use an ipad air 5 as my only computer , work , play etc., on the road sales access to company CRM , spreadsheets ,email filling in forms great machine portability was my main aim ,battery life and phone compatibility. Files app working better with external storage and being able to put files in notes would be good
Can you color calibrate your monitor and save color profile into ipad pro? Default color on a external display through usb c port of the ipad pro is awful.
ooh what is that bubbly white thing with the slot under your monitor?
🐬great video!
I wish ipad pro could be used by pro users by bringing macOS onto it while making ipadOS running on it as a VM. All the pseudo pros would not notice and the others could use a real OS if needed. The M1/2 chips are definitely powerful enough.
I would like to see this as a showdown: MacBook vs iPad. I also really love how far the iPadOS software has come since day one (2018).
the macbook is much better overall. basically almost every critique people give ipads is that it’s not a mac. but i still like the ipad pro but at the same time a m1 macbook air is 750$ right now. personality think that’s a better buy
I know this video is old, but any chance you could share where that gorgeous sunset wallpaper shown at 9:40 is from?
I want the link for that desktop lap & the iPad vertical stand, thank you 🙏
Looking forward to ipad os 18. Hopefully it gets a desktop mode. I bought an m4 ipad pro yesterday and cant wait xD
🐬 Digging the improvements to Stage Manager, especially when connected to an external monitor.
Agreed. I don’t really use stage manager much on my iPad when it’s standalone because it leaves too much blank space with the window sizing limitations. It’s a lot more useful on my external monitor right now.
I had high hopes for this but I’m having issues with the external monitor going black every few seconds. I had this on the Mac as well but fixed it by changing the frequency setting (50Hz instead of 60Hz default) but can’t do that on iPadOS. Plus the audio output through my dock used to work and was broken after one of the updates.
was this video edited on your ipad?? what software do you use?
Can I run Xcode on it to develop software? If not, then it is not an option for me to work on.

Does LumaFusion play nice with iOS 17?
This out in the UK yet?
Does anyone know which monitor is that ?
I was hoping to use my IPad Pro to replace my laptop but some of the applications I use are MacOS or windows only. Is there a solution for this?
Nice video Fernando-looking forward to iPadOS 17 🐬
Thank you!
Try to work on excel n word office is a pain in the neck work with iPads ,
I still haven’t understood what was your workflow? For video editing, sure I guess, u get Final Cut and lumafusion and Resolve, noteteaking defintely. Ben a teacher or maybe a med student or finance student should be fine, but as u said, it’s dependent on the workflow. I work more on the software end, even my studies are on that end, so even a basic iPad 7 that I have works fine for me.
The stage manager improvements and third-party camera support (providing all relevant apps can make use of it) are the only things that will help my workflow. I fail to see the benefit of personal voice, as this just feels like more bling to me, like widgets. I would rather Apple add useful functionality to iPad OS, such as VM support / parallels desktop, proper external SSD and memory card support (eject, format, repair), the iOS calculator app, and permit sideloading apps, so you can readily install emulators, even if the Apple App Store doesn't provide them (... you can sideload if you put your iPad Pro into developer mode, but you need a Mac computer plus it's a lot of work). Without this sort of functionality, the iPad Pro will never be a computer, just an oversized smart phone.
I agree. I always found it hilarious how Apple touted the iPad as a laptop replacement. If its supposed to replace my laptop, I'm expecting it does everything my laptop does.
🐬
What iPad stand do you have next to your monitor, do you have a review of different stands in your post recently? I have an iPad 12.9 m1.
I've realized that being in mortgage sales the iPad actually would work best since all of my portals run off chrome extensions and this makes my workflow so much more portable.
My biggest question apart from Stage Manager which now finally works well, when you connect to an external display, does it still need a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to connect? And does it allow you to use the iPad speakers? Because I had to use other ear buds to finally hear anything when I connect to an external display.
you should change your hdmi adapter that connect to your ipad
