I bought my 2015 GT on January 9 2015 and have not noticed any noise or rattles. I think it's a fairly quiet car and it feels solid. I'm very happy with my purchase.
@@FerRod2113of course they wouldn’t reply, they never do. Had my 97 accord for a year and it’s been amazing. Just fixing the small things. I want something else but not sure what.
By FAR the most detailed Mustang GT performance package review on all of RUclips (and I've watched a lot!). This review actually describes a lot of driving details no one else either notices or just doesn't bother to mention. Great work. On a side note, I wish there was an option to have 3.31 or 3.55 gears when ordering the PP since many have said 3.73 is just too short for around town city driving. It also it's very fun if you can't hook up the rear tires during those 1st and 2nd gear pulls right?! :) Also, EPA fuel economy ratings have been updated for the 3.73 gearing and is 14 city/23 hwy vs 15 city/25 hwy with the 3.31 gearing (US MPG).
The conditions aren't helping but to launch a big heavy muscle car like that you do *NOT* want to do a clutch drop (unless you're on a prepped surface). Instead, raise the RPM's a little and release the clutch quickly so it slips but doesn't cause the tires to spin. As soon as the clutch is all the way out, roll onto the throttle (don't just floor it or you'll lose traction) and you should get good times.
+Unbearable Pain I agree... I got good at launching a WRX, and i can launch v8 rwd's pretty good... Clutch slip applies in rwd too as they have decent traction... dumping the clutch will destroy the rear diff/axles/transmission/prop shaft. if you slip it right, it won't feel as fast as dumping the clutch i found but you're going much faster... and to an outside observer that'll see your car rocket off the line with no wheel spin.
Very interesting that your tester was not quiet inside. My base GT is VERY quiet inside, which makes it very easy to hear all of the interior trim squeaks and rattles (SMH), but I suspect that your tester had a window or door sealing problem as these are pretty quiet cars for the most part.
+GadgetsNGear I installed a MBRP race exhaust on my GT and the interior is fairly quite when cruising in the highway at 2000-2500 RPM, its loud when you accelerate. I have no trouble hearing music. With a stock exhaust it is very quite, it is only when you step on it, you here the rumble of the engine.
journal is just a oiled bushing. (solid metal pipe pretty much, that the shaft rotates inside of) and ball bearing (its dual ball bearing) Is more efficient by less friction aswell as easier to cool the touching parts. sorry, ive rebuilt many of both and installed many of both, had to chime in lol.

Following up on this post to see if you believe this a car you’d consider worthy of collecting. In my opinion, Mustangs between 2015 & 2017 have a look I believe will stand the test of time. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
you know what's cool about these EE reviews... he actually doesn't do a laundry list and blab on things, but actually explanations and details... as if he actually did touch/experience/know about what he's talking about (I think he does know what he's talking about)
Great video Jason! I too am surprised by your experience of excessive road noise as my ecoboost is really quiet inside. Great to hear your thoughts on the GT though! Those 3.73 gears seem a little short to me but I'm glad to hear that you can still get decent fuel economy on the highway with these gears. I'd personally rather have the 3.55s or 3.31s instead.
So I drove the 3.3 and 3.73 back to back. these cars have so much power it's hard to really tell the difference just from nailing the accelerator. where you feel the 3.73 is when your on the highway or zipping through traffic in 5th or 6th. with the 3.73 you don't need to down shift just press the gas and the car hauls ass. even in 6th on the highway it's fast enough to pass people without down shifting. as for fuel mileage my car with 3.73 gears gets 13.5 reliably around city with lots of lights. and 23-24 mpg on the highway. I typically travel 70-80 engine revs at 2000rpm on the highway.
+ZepG imho the 3.3 is better for heavy city usage. you can put it in 3rd or 4th and cruise. with the 3.73 5th is basically like a 4th gear in a regular 5speed manual. below 4th the gears are pretty short
+3star2nr 3.55 is the sweet spot. If you're race a lot whether stop lights or road course, the 3.73 is what you need. 3.31 is wasting the Mustang's potential.
I think when we think of weight we have to remember that in racing we remove everything to make the car lighter, this car isn't meant to race despite the general thought we put into what GT and Mustang mean. on the other hand they offer more engine options to choose from along with more track focused Mustangs like the GT350. I worked on a race track where a Spec Racer ford would out run pretty much anything except other race specific cars. I'd take a GT and have fun with changing things out with lightweight materials or simply removing things I wouldn't use if speed and weight were that big of a deal. there will always be sacrifice when it comes to street cars.
bfee20021 At that point in the video the car is in Accessory Mode. The engine is off. All cars to the same thing when in Accessory Mode (key set to ON but engine is off)
I just bought a 2015 mustang gt premium but I think it's missing a lot of premium options. It doesn't have recaro seats, no shaker audio nor subwoofer in trunk. Door speakers are only one at the bottom on each door. It took me a few years to save 28,500 dllrs to pay for it cash. Working at a convenience store pays next to nothing so saving money is a hard thing to do. Mustang is a premium gt but just missing some options on it. Thanks for the video and late response to it.
I'd recommend using a border when showing the dual screen. It's disconcerting to watch your face in the top right screen while your hands do something else in the lower left screen.
+Mickey Bauer I'd prefer the 1,400 lb diet, I found the Miata more playful and energetic, but I certainly understand the passion behind this Mustang, it's a beast!
+Car Geeks Anonymous Base curb weight is about 3700 lbs for the fastback manual, I'd imagine with all the packages 3,800 wouldn't be that hard for it to hit. It's certainly big and heavy.
+Car Geeks Anonymous This is the quietest car I've ever owned. Its by no means a loud cabin. I'm not sure what conditions may have caused this in his testing.
+zemaniak22 That could be the culprit. Since I live in NJ, I winterized my car in early Dec. and has been in the garage ever since. But I never experience load road noise in my GT PP non premium. Cold temps sounds possible since It was 60f+ when I put my car away.
I noticed in the video that the line lock feature in the mustang is lighted out. It is the exact same in my mustang and I'm still trying to figure out why this is. I'm not too sure if the dealer is stopping us from using it. If anyone knows how you would access it feel free to reply.
+xXDaMasta18Xx It has to be in track mode I believe, maybe with traction off. I don't recall the combination but I was definitely able to access it by messing around when I had it in.
+xXDaMasta18Xx I can't remember right now, but you have to be in either neutral or 1st and if you're in the wrong one it won't let you access it. If you search 2015 mustang line lock on youtube there will be an explanation video for it.
+Ayoub Rabhi Haha yes, though I've read on other sites that it works quite well in good conditions. Corvette had an excellent launch control system that prevented slip and yet allowed a 3.8 sec time with a RWD vehicle.
So this comes out to about $40K it seems... I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not... relative to the rest of the V8 market, do you think it's the best choice?
+Danny Diez that's true, the base looks like the way to go value-wise. Usually I'm down for that, but having sat in a few mustangs, I really like the recaro's, performance pack, and the interior of the premium. Ford is good at giving you FOMO with their options...maybe i gotta go lightly used, like 6-12K miles. Still, waiting on the consensus for the new camaro too tho..
I have super all wheel eclipse cross suv and the all wheel drive is sick but it is a gutless suv but the all wheel is nice just rips through snow and all wheel drive drift and donuts are fun in snow
for some reason everytime GT premium performance package Mustang hits 6400 RPM it flashes red and shuts the motor down it's very irritating can anybody answer why this happens it's not like a rev limiter it is a complete shutdown like putting on the brakes on most
+Jay “Hampton214” Simpson I don't recall. It's not too uncommon to get press cars in that rattle, simply because they're getting hammered on by journalists regularly.
+BmacRDX It's a rough road I test on, it's all relative to the road. Compared to the other cars I've driven, this was a bit noisier. The tires may have had a bit of melting though. :)
+Grant Rodgers Yes but has ported valves and boss rods and crank. So it breathes a little better and can take a bit more HP w/ mods. Hence the HP bump from 412 to 435.
+Engineering Explained I'm the inverse. I've gotten to autocross a 2014 GT with the Track Pack, but I have yet to drive the new gen. I've sat in one during an auto show, but that's it. I found the previous GT quite fun to drive, one of the more fun cars I've driven in years, slight understeer but adjustable with throttle. It felt top heavy, but that was more so a problem of sticking to soft springs and having very little damping control (and this is with the track pack which I found oddly soft). The car felt soft, not specifically twitchy, but really sensitive to ham-fisted inputs because of poor inertia control which will likely end up in a spin or at least a good slide that you have to then correct. It'd be fun to drive both gens back to back just to see what they retained and how big of a change the new rear end offers. A more interesting aspect is just how much cheaper the old gen is getting. As long as you're 2011 or newer, you're getting the higher HP engine of that generation and are getting it at sub $20k.
Hey Heaton, Please, learn how to spell and format a proper sentence before even posting . Man, Do you even have a drivers license? Because you write, spell and call names like your 12 years old .. Get Real Dude
People make a big deal about the weight but my 350z @3600lbs feels lighter than an EB Mustang. I believe theres more to it than just weight number. Someone explain.
+frankth3frizz In terms of cornering ability, having more weight closer to the ground makes the car much more responsive. Having a shorter wheelbase also makes the car more maneuverable (and as a consequence, a smaller moment of inertia).
+john learoux The base trim is 3,705 LBS it gains 100 lbs with all the extra speakers and crap in the premium package. Lighter is better but on cars this heavy we're talking about less than 3% difference. Also keep in mind that the new Camaro is on a next-gen architecture after coming back from it's very bloated 5th gen platform. The mustang is still on the same chassis architecture as the S197. In the end it's good that GM has stepped up the Camaro, because the competition makes all of these cars better for us, the consumers. :)
+GadgetsNGear You can get that 3,705 down even lower by opting for the Recaros (like in the video) because the Recaros are manual seats and the default seats are motorized seats it cuts 25lbs per seat, so you can actually have a 3655lb mustang 5.0. There was a guy on the mustang forum that had that combo and after removing all the spare tire junk was just blow 3620lbs. Also if you join the Mustang Club of America(for $50), you get Ford family member pricing and that car drops to $30k without the recaros and aprx. $31,500 with the recaros. Making the camaro $6,000-$7,000 more expensive. Edit: also the S550 chassis doesn't share anything with the S197.
+john learoux The 2016 Camaro ss manual is rated at 3685. Not 3680. The Base GT with PP is rated at 3730. Replace the resonator with an X or H pipe and you're under 3700. The weight is very similar between the two cars and Chevy had more than a Year to try to 1 up Ford. Its a back and forth game, always has been. The GT350r is king right now on the track, and the next Z28 could top it when it releases.
I was shocked how "loud" the stock engine sound was in the cabin but excited to put aftermarket exhaust on it soon, and I don't notice as much road noise as you pointed out. I came from a G37 sedan that was a lot louder inside honestly(maybe that's why), AND that's me sitting on the 20 inch wheels.
Kind of a confusing point for me - Why does lower gearing help the car accelerate better if it can't put down all the power (aside from the torsen diff)? Or does it not make a difference until it reaches a speed where it can put down all the power? Think it'd be worthwhile for you to get a set of tire blankets for testing cars on cold days?
As you mentioned, it only helps when you're no longer traction limited. The tires and road were a bit too cold, in different environments it'd be much quicker.
it DOES put down the power just fine, the tester doesn't know what hes doing. my car hooks and hauls ass off the line. if you hop off the clutch or if the road is wet it will spin the tires, especially in sports + mode but the traction control does an excellent job of keeping you hooked up. that said the factory tires are for handling and high speed cornering they aren't for drag racing. on a twisty road is where these cars come alive if you have the courage to step on them. they will pull alot of gs in corners
The conditions might be bad but to only pull a 5.4 driving skills or lack there of are involved. And why you'd think a second gear pull in that car?? Is beyond me. Might as well let everyone know since you came no where near the 4.3 to 4.5 0-60 it's capable of. Besides that it was ok.
He said the temperature was around 40 degrees F so overall grip was greatly reduced. It's just too cold for that tire compound to be effective (the performance package has summer only tires).
hey Jason was wondering if you're going to be doing a full review on the ecoboost mustang hardtop you had? and if you felt the steering was different vs. the convertible? thank you and keep up the great videos!
+malkionx I will not, won't be getting it in (had it at a press event). I thought the steering felt better in the fastback than the convertible, part of that might be the performance package.
+Engineering Explained thank you very much! appreciate the feedback trying to decide whether to switch to an ecoboost mustang or keep my 2014 fiesta st. Fast road car, and summer track car duty in mind.
I love the look of these new Mustangs, but I could never justify buying one with such poor fuel economy. Too heavy and too much power for me. I have no need or desire to go 150+ mph, but I DO have a desire to get off the line without wheel spin and torque steer. I know these weren't ideal conditions, but in my opinion, it still seems unbalanced.
You buy a V8 and you want it to be quiet inside!? U need a Prius, or some other sedan, not this kinda car! You have this sorta cars because of the power, the rumble and just purely how those horses make you feel!
+Engineering Explained I did. I actually watch your videos religiously lol! ;-) The quiet part, I think most manufacturers do it that way even for high BHP output stock cars. It's the owner that ends up letting those horses free to scream later hehe. I believe the reason for that (quietness), maybe because of some law on certain countries, manufacturers need to meet certain standard like emission, exhaust volume etc. Where I come from (unfortunately) I have to have my car inspected every 2 years, and when it reaches a certain age, it's every year and one of the tests is the exhaust decibel reading. Apart from this, a cop, with all authority escort you (at anytime) to the test center for further checks just because you have a noisy exhaust or one that isn't approved! ;-(
i make 60 and refuse to buy a new car. when did the minamum car payment link up with median paycheck? 40 grand for a mustang gt lol no way never buy a bike and live close to work. f the stealerahips.
+frank james What, in 10 years? C'mon guy... You still can't even find low mileage good condition 2011's (first gen Coyote) for that price. They're still hovering around $22k-$24k.
+frank james Other comparable vehicles are either under powered, or heavier. Look at the 235i. 3700lbs and 100 less hp. What a joke. Not to mention 10k more and has the same body as every other BMW. Aluminum will probably come next gen at might shave 200lbs off.

+Andrew Wittwer I tend to enjoy lighter weight cars, yes. Dynamically they seem to naturally excel.
Why was the check engine light already on?
+Christopher Garcia Accessory mode (it's not).
+Engineering Explained Ah I see. Great video by the way! 👍
How much did it cost with the premium
Does your mom know how fast you drive?
+Jeremy Short She watches every video. :)
Pls review the older bmw 1 series coups pls, 128i or 135i
So this comes out to about $40K it seems... I'm not sure if that's a good deal or not... relative to the rest of the V8 market, do you think it's the best choice?
It starts at $33K, and even the base model trim is a very good value compared to what you can find performance wise from european manufacturers
What is the price for the car?
can u plz do a vid about the mitsubishi super select 4 wheel drive system?
I have super all wheel eclipse cross suv and the all wheel drive is sick but it is a gutless suv but the all wheel is nice just rips through snow and all wheel drive drift and donuts are fun in snow
for some reason everytime GT premium performance package Mustang hits 6400 RPM it flashes red and shuts the motor down it's very irritating can anybody answer why this happens it's not like a rev limiter it is a complete shutdown like putting on the brakes on most
Do you know RPM @ around 60MPH or 120km for each Diff?
3.31 @ 6th???
3.55 @ 6th??
3.75 @ 6th?
Any squeaks or rattles that you noticed?
+Jay “Hampton214” Simpson I don't recall. It's not too uncommon to get press cars in that rattle, simply because they're getting hammered on by journalists regularly.
would it be sacrilegious to get the automatic V6?
Get what you can afford a mustang is a mustang nonetheless
+Jeff Edwards Cool.
How do you get those gauges instead of vents? I've seen premium mustangs without those gauges
I believe they come with the Performance Package . . .
bman99ss That makes sense they look really good
Jason, what scale do you measure your decibels at?
+Dragan Celan I use an app on my phone, it's done at 65 mph on the same stretch of highway.
The Modern Horses
You must've gotten a test car with heavily worn tires...the 2015s are very quiet on the highway (I got 71 dB).
+BmacRDX It's a rough road I test on, it's all relative to the road. Compared to the other cars I've driven, this was a bit noisier. The tires may have had a bit of melting though. :)
Is that still the coyote engine?
+Grant Rodgers yes
+Grant Rodgers Yes but has ported valves and boss rods and crank. So it breathes a little better and can take a bit more HP w/ mods. Hence the HP bump from 412 to 435.
+Grant Rodgers You want the voodoo flat plane V8 in the GT350.
+Mr_ATC 420 to 435
Have you ever driven the previous generation GT?
+Xmvw2X Nope, first GT I've driven.
+Xmvw2X sold my 13 as it was too bumpy and stiff..15s are way better
Stock Mustang GT comes with a 6 speed manual made in China. THE CHEAPEST MAN ALWAYS PAYS THE MOST ... 2017 Camaro SS Coming home Chevy ...
No Z is that heavy out of factory!!!
+charjohnnie sic That's what my manual says :P
The CG height and overall vehicle dimensions themselves play a pretty big role in the feel of the car too.
+frankth3frizz In terms of cornering ability, having more weight closer to the ground makes the car much more responsive. Having a shorter wheelbase also makes the car more maneuverable (and as a consequence, a smaller moment of inertia).
3800 LBS* just to correct you, just over 3800 lbs... and with the SS now at 3600 this is quite an issue.
+john learoux C&D reported one GT at 3782lb and another at 3817lb. Must be trim package differences.
+john learoux But the weight of last gen Camaros wasn't an issue? Typical fanboy trolling.
The GT350r is king right now on the track, and the next Z28 could top it when it releases.
awesome
I was shocked how "loud" the stock engine sound was in the cabin but excited to put aftermarket exhaust on it soon, and I don't notice as much road noise as you pointed out. I came from a G37 sedan that was a lot louder inside honestly(maybe that's why), AND that's me sitting on the 20 inch wheels.
Hello ChrisFixes Nerdy less shy cousin
Would you buy the new Mustang or new Camaro?
Could you do a video on the pros and cons of naturally aspirated vs. Turbo/super charged?
+Hayden Birch Lots of content on it! ruclips.net/p/PL08CEA57427415959
Sounds like you want an ecoboost
Ecoboost would be okay if this car went on a diet and lost a 1,000 lbs.
+JesseArt EcoBoost is fine. Can still pull 5.5s to 60mph if you nail it just right.
do a v6 review!
Question: Why would anyone pay $46k for the GT premium when they could throw in another $1k and get the Shelby GT350 base?
gt350s msrp is 57k I think. not 47. and they get marked up 20k anyways due to dealer greed.
you could get a Roush Mustang For 42 plus supercharged
You buy a V8 and you want it to be quiet inside!? U need a Prius, or some other sedan, not this kinda car! You have this sorta cars because of the power, the rumble and just purely how those horses make you feel!
+lukgaroo I guess you didn't hear the part about where I felt the exhaust was a bit quiet?
+Engineering Explained I did. I actually watch your videos religiously lol! ;-) The quiet part, I think most manufacturers do it that way even for high BHP output stock cars. It's the owner that ends up letting those horses free to scream later hehe.
I believe the reason for that (quietness), maybe because of some law on certain countries, manufacturers need to meet certain standard like emission, exhaust volume etc.
Where I come from (unfortunately) I have to have my car inspected every 2 years, and when it reaches a certain age, it's every year and one of the tests is the exhaust decibel reading. Apart from this, a cop, with all authority escort you (at anytime) to the test center for further checks just because you have a noisy exhaust or one that isn't approved! ;-(
+lukgaroo He meant quiet when cruising - wind and tyre noise specifically.
If your not runing it on premium has my friend you won’t be hitting it’s potential
good
You probably got a defective unit. I'm planning on getting one
POV you show your license plate
Review the camaro
They just look horrid IMO, it'd be better if they looked more like their mid 2000's.
+Brad V just get a '68 fastback
Car Geeks Anonymous I'll stick to my Chevy's, but these newer models are just horrendous.
i make 60 and refuse to buy a new car.
when did the minamum car payment link up with median paycheck?
40 grand for a mustang gt
lol no way
never
buy a bike and live close to work.
f the stealerahips.
+dont ask I make well over 100K and wont even buy anything new...No need for new cars when you can get them 30% off in les than 2 years.
+Engineering Explained Great review! Check out my first videos let me know what you think! Love silver by the way.. lol
or buy it used for $20k, depreciation, it's too heavy, c'mon Ford....get some aluminum in that puppy.
+frank james What, in 10 years? C'mon guy...
You still can't even find low mileage good condition 2011's (first gen Coyote) for that price. They're still hovering around $22k-$24k.
+Joseph Grueter I can get 2015's all day with just over 15K miles for 27K
clinically insane That may be...but $27k is 35% more than $20k. Not exactly the same thing.
Aluminium body would be awesome.
+frank james Other comparable vehicles are either under powered, or heavier. Look at the 235i. 3700lbs and 100 less hp. What a joke. Not to mention 10k more and has the same body as every other BMW. Aluminum will probably come next gen at might shave 200lbs off.
This or Camaro ss
brake size was wrong, its 14. something not 15's
+YoloSwegLord5000 YoloSwegLord5000 According to Car and Driver, 15.0 front, 13.0 rear.
+YoloSwegLord5000 YoloSwegLord5000 15" is the performance package with the 6 piston calipers and larger front rotor
