    My grandfather was a Pullman Porter out of San Antonio. I have his NAACP card from 1943, I have a Black Worker newspaper and a photo of him in his uniform. I was a member of CWA for 27 years. I'd love to chat about him and my career in labor and now federal service.

    Thank You Dr. Greg Carr once again! Several of family members worked for the railroads. My grandmother born in 1897 husband worked on the old Pennsylvania Railroad and her son and his in-laws for the C&O. I’ll always remembering traveled for Free or at a discount and also remember having to change into the Jim Crow cars at MasonDixie Line stations. It’s a shame that the wealthiest Country in the world has the Worst rail system. It’s a story that needs to be told as to why!

    Wow, thank you for connecting these dots, Dr. Greg always comes through with the gems! Laboring for love, what a dream indeed. Can you speak into C.C. Spaulding and the largest black-owned business in America, North Carolina Mutual and how that led to the FIRST black Wall Street?
    I’ve read through some of the archives and the story has phenomenal legacy. Excited to hear more, thank you 🙏🏾

    My work used to be volunteering at an after school program. After several years, the program partnered with another non profit that would provide volunteers so that individuals were not needed. Both of those programs receive "subsidies " from the government.

    Dig into the history of Oberlin Baptist Church in Raleigh NC and you find Pullman Porters and other Black railroad laborers named Higgs, Hogan, Smith, Morgan et al, who founded and built that church with their own hands following the end of the reconstruction era, the Cameron Village shopping center construction likely desecrated the burial site for a number of them back in the late 40s early 50s and there’s just a small plot of ground there now that my elders took me to as a child in the 50s

    Does anyone know where I might find a copy of the book “Freedom is Never Free? “ It seems to be either no longer available! Which I find rather disappointing! It’s almost like no one wants us to know about the great work this man did in being a catalyst for the Montgomery Bus Boycott! 🧐🤨

    11:19 I think it is ironic that Labor Day was started because of a stike led by Eugene V Debs against the Pullman Railway. Labor lost because President Cleveland sided with the business owner (Pullman). So Labor day was started by a President who sided against labor.

  • @My2CentsYall
    @My2CentsYall 11 месяцев назад +2

    Labor day as a day off seems to be for those at the very top of labor because everyone else is working on labor day. Labor has changed dramatically in the USA to be completely top heavy were labor(workers) are no more than cogs while the people at the top get paid very well. The collapse of the the Union either through corruption or dismantling by corporatist has led to a fall in wages and life style of most American. Globalization has not helped labor in the USA as well as most jobs are shipped overseas for cheaper labor. The emerging AI should have people on alert. No longer will most fast food chains have to worry about employees or wages: A McDonald’s In Texas Replaced People With Robots & Now Minimum Wage Is In Question. If you have no degree in engineering or robotic you will be out of work.
