Hi Myke and Tonia! There is actually a shepard that has a herd of goats out here that goes with the goats from field to field to help clear them. He has a little trailer he stays in and has three dogs that herd the goats. I see around them around every so often. God Bless and Take care!
I had dairy goats, and sold kids. I raised heritage hogs also. I sold the hogs before taking to the processor and delivered the package with added process fee. My friend raised Boer goat s and sold at a market. The tastiest meat ever!
We are in dairy goats right now and trying to decide to grow this herd or add meat goats and grow a dual herd. Great video! Ours right now pay for themselves for the year and make enough reinvest into the herd/infrastructure.
Awesome! We are fairly new in the world of goats. We have 2 (1 years old) boer does. They are full-blooded but not registered. I really want to grow our herd but also make some kind of income with them. All this info was great for us moving into the future with goats! Thank you

I did some research about 2 weeks ago and came up with weekly rental rates for 3-5 goats at a time to clear 1 acre. It came up to 200 per week plus 100 set up fee and it was a 3 week guarantee, plus any additional fees for extra fence and such. We have 5 acres in Oklahoma, 3 acres of which is being used already. Thinking about raising goats for profit. We have three pygmies right now and looking into other breeds, but we are wondering if 2 acres is enough for a profitable goat farm?
short answer is no. if you put 6 goats per acre x 2 acres = 12 goats...all does, that all had twins = 24 babies to sell. 24 x 350$ = $8,400. there is not enough in it to think of it as a money maker until you hit around 50 goats or you find a niche market be it the 4h/ffa/show/dairy etc. avenue. It all depends how great you are at marketing and how great you can get your farm name out there. pygmies x nigerian dwarves will sell around 150$ a piece around here so you are 24 x $150 = $3,600 and then if you were to take out hay, feed, mineral, time spent you are not going to make a profit.
Thank you so much. I need goats to clear brush on 3 acres of swamp and prickers in Massachusetts. How do goats feel about streams and water? Do their hooves do a lot of damage? How often do you trim their hooves?
Our goats are Kiko goats and we don’t ever have to trim hooves but most goats do need their hooves trimmed. Goats don’t really like to get wet or even walk in water so they typically stay clear of damp ground
@@FowlerFamilyFarm Thanks so much for the info! I have heard Kiko goats are what I should get to clear the poison ivy and prickers. Maybe the wetlands will act as a fence at times, problem is it dries up end of summah. Cheers!
How much money do you get per pound of goat meat? Either in live weight or weight of processed cuts. The prices seem to be all over the place from 5 dollars a pound to 16 dollars a pound for processed cuts. If raising goats without pasture grass then you couldn’t make any money off the meat if it sells for any less than 13 dollars a pound. But if selling milk in theory I could?
