    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

    Several of my RUclipsrs have commented about the price of goats and sheep. One of them lives in Canada and their prices are just as high if not higher. My Uk RUclipsr hasn't mentioned it , yet !
    Glad that were able to take advantage of the high prices.
    I'm not looking forward to the meat prices in the coming months.
    Stay happy, healthy, hydrated and safe.
    May God continue to bless you and your family.

      I want to say figure about an average of 15 to 20 a lb hanging weight + butcher fees.
      I actually was thinkiing if goats could bring about that price consistently i could just not sale barn the males i get and roll out meat packs. (when i get the farm right which means about 100 goats giving about 200 meat goats and 100 or so dairy doe girls giving tons of milk.
      Lets say a goat weighs about 120 lbs so 50 or so hanging weight so maybe 700 to 1k a goat for meat if that calculation is right. My only fear is the lack of customer/clients wanting goat meat over cow/pig.
      Also i undercut total avg weight a goat might be and undercut hanging weight at 50% when i hear about 55-60% also.

    So, it sounds like it isn't cost effective to buy five or ten very young kids, feed them for a few months and then take them to the meat market. It sounds like I would lose money that way. Did I hear all that right? Buying a young kid from a goat farm would probably cost me more than what I would get later at the meat market.

    How much meat can be sold in a store from a 40 pound goat? Cattlemen are thinning their herds due to the drought and high grain prices so beef will be a lot more expensive next year so maybe profits for goats will go up if you don't have to buy feed!!

    WHEN MAKING RETIREMENT PLANS, AN LIVESTOCK IS GOOD BUT HAVING PASSIVE INCOME IS MORE CRUCIAL. Big ups to everyone working effortlessly trying to earn a living while building wealth. I'm 40 oand my wife 34. We are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. Currently living smart and frugal with our money. Saving and investing lifestyle made it possible for us this early even till now we earn monthly through passive income.

    Hi from Philippines we have small herds here and every animal is worth money except the old rams. We cant eat them or sell the meat because of the smell. Would it work if we desexed the ram and kept him for a while till he stopped chasing does and washing him regularly?

    • @FowlerFamilyFarm
      @FowlerFamilyFarm  Год назад +1

      It could possibly help yes. But it is always best to do that before six months old. But the old ram you’re talking about was probably your sire

    Who buys them? Like are most US goats being processed and the meat shipped overseas?

    • @redwoodtrail
      @redwoodtrail Год назад

      That’s what I was thinking. I’ve never heard of goat meat. I did some research. Apparently goat meat is popular in many cultures around the world but since American culture is highly influenced by European customs, we tend to raise and consume more beef, chicken and pork. We use goats as tools more than we slaughter for meat. It is a growing industry though and apparently goat can be a bit pricey since it’s such a niche and small production.
