Just working through all of your videos. You are an outstanding instructor. I know that you do a lot of streaming over on Twitch, but I have no idea why you don't have 40,000 subs here on RUclips. None of the other instructors can hold a candle to you. Thank you.
Absolutely agree with above comment. Excellent easy/steady tutorial for the Maddog MD. I like the detail, but also, you explain "why" you do things, and not just "do" it. Excellent. Recommend for anyone getting the Maddog. This is from a guy who loves the 737, sometimes fly the Airbus, and like the regional CRJ, but this plane, although I NEVER thought I would like it (pre-conceptions), has become my favorite plane. Keeps you on your toes (a bit like the CRJ).
Thanks a lot for creating this excellent series of videos! It has greatly improved my understanding of the MD-80 aircraft with all its quirks and peculiarities, and will most certainly make my next Maddog flights even more fun. I really appreciate all the effort that you put in to do this Masterclass series, that must have been quite some work. I'm looking forward to the upcoming tutorial flight with the Marconi as well. I myself haven't tried it yet, but it looks fun, even though (or more likely especially because) there is more mental maths required. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man, it really was a labor of love. The marconi flight has already been filmed, just didn't have enough time to edit it before World Flight this week. So should be coming sometime next week
hey your tutorials have been very helpful for me learning the md80 over the past month! Question: in order to get the FD to follow the ILS I assume you need ILS mode set even when not in AP? If not it seems to follow the last set thing even when you're flying manually and following the ILS. Second, what's the procedure for flying an RNAV in the MD? I assume just LVAV + VNAV and visual before you hit minimums?
Yes, and yes you have to depress them quite a bit. I believe in the real aircraft you have to depress the brake at least as much as the autobrake is commanding. Not sure if that logic is followed in the sim
Can you say the name of third parties you used? Like the landing rate showed up there or that one you access everything in the middle of the screen. Tnx
You are still in the virtual cockpit technically, as opposed to external view. So unless they did something with sound proximity, which is more of an external model thing you would still hear it. I don't remember on my end if I hear cockpit sounds or not. Are you using default sounds or the FTSim sound mod for the MD-80, that may make a difference too as I'm using the mod
Are you asking what the flaps should be set to and when? Takeoff, flaps 11 is pretty standard, but you can elect to use anything between 1 and I think 23 (I'm not infront of the sim atm) but not 13-14. Raise the flaps and slats based on speed bugs. For landing either 28 or 40 can be used. Generally I'll do slats at 240 or 230, Flap 11 around 210, flap 15 around 190, flap 28 at 170 to 160, 40 after 160. Do not use dial a flap for arrival, only departure
In the flight deck the default sound is actually more realistic due to the distance from the engines. Maddog is know as one of the quietest cockpits. However I am running a soundpack from FTSim+ there are two options the one with the (L) is the loud one, which I use. www.ftsimplus.com/

Thanks for the great feedback, glad you found it helpful. Welcome to the Maddog fan club! I never thought I'd love this aircraft the way I do either.

Thank you for amazing tutorial ❤️ Also, the cookie video stole my heart! Wish you all the best 🎉
Ah, thanks!

Yes to both questions. I'm glad the videos have been helpful!
I need to go back, Lol 👍 but I'll be back. 😅 Slainte ❤
How is autobrake disarmed? Do i have to press and depress the brake? Cause it doesn't seem to work? Or am i not pressing them enough?

Both the landing rate and the center menu is FLOW from Parallel 42, you can get it through their website and through ORBX
Why when I do a cabin camera I still get the cockpit sounds are you’re getting different sounds from the back?
You are still in the virtual cockpit technically, as opposed to external view. So unless they did something with sound proximity, which is more of an external model thing you would still hear it. Do you know why I have no G/S on my PFD? I have set the correct frequency and course, and in the overhead the landing elevation and pressure is set
If you are too far out, you will get the localizer before you pick up the G/S. What airport and runway were you using?
@@moosestaffa83 I don't even have the localizer. I was approaching LIRF RWY16R and was ≈ 8 nm out.
hello from indonesia, thank you america. still confuse about the standard flaps schedule
Are you asking what the flaps should be set to and when?

@@moosestaffa83 Thank you captain, 20 nm before runway is enough time to setup all these landing configuration?
Awesome video, thank you! How did you make your engine sound this loud? Normally it's way too quiet.
