So glad you are feeling better! You are spot on about the frustrations with our healthcare system, especially here in rural NorCal and other under-served areas. Also, spot on about some of the pitfalls of supplements. And, again, spot on about what can and should be counted as 'achievements' when dealing with illness. If most people get clobbered by an illness that takes a toll on their bodies and sets them back, then making it through such an illness without a lot of weight loss and muscle loss can absolutely be an achievement.

From September to November last year I lost most of my mobility. It was really scary. I had severe pain and stiffness in both hip joints and shoulders and neck. Diagnosis was Polymyalgia Rheumatica, my inflammation markers through the roof. Within 4 days of starting steroids I felt so much better but had massive concerns about side effects. To help counteract the steroids I started back at the gym on 17th Dec and have gone religiously every 2 or 3 days with some outdoor hiking in between. The side effects are shit sometimes but I'm more mobile than ever and trying my best to feel strong again. You inspired me to get fit again so thank you. Its helped hugely with my mental health too. Hope you continue to recover well.

Far out, it was the lion’s mane! Very true about the dose response curve for everything. A large percentage of pharmaceuticals are natural products, they have just been tested and doses worked out. Supplements either work or don’t, few have proper clinical studies, and it’s unlikely you’ll know what is the right dose. Also a plant or mushroom might have way more active compounds in it than the next one because it was grown in more light or different soil so doses are almost impossible if just dry weight of the plant is used in a supplement. Good to hear you found out what it was and YES just getting started 💪

Competitive physique for sure. You could cut for 8 weeks and step on stage haha. Impressive effort to maintain your lifestyle and structure given the health concerns.

Dude I know first hand how you feel. I went through hell alot worse. I went from a ripped 195 down to 140 in 30 days. My immune system attacked me over night. I was 21 back in 81 in the Army. I spent 6 months in Walter Reed Army medical center before they figured it out. I had to learn how to walk again and took me at least a year of lifting after the fact to gain my muscle back. My dad said I looked like I came out of a German prison camp. I had reoccurring attacks 3 times over the next 10 years but not as bad. Hang in there!

Thank you for sharing, and sorry your winter has been shitty healthwise but glad you’re on the up and up. Still very much in the “witcho fine ass” territory 😂

You're a tough SOB, you had the will to power through all that mess. I'm an old dude and on my own healthy journey, you've given me inspiration to keep going. So thank you for that. Also you look as hard as your axes. Later

I just started lions mane 3 weeks ago and I have 5 or 6 autoimmune diseases and I haven’t felt good since. I’ve been fighting flares all month, my prednisone would probably mask it but after years of being on 20mg daily it destroyed my body inside and out. I’ve worked my way down to 2mg a day and no matter how much pain I’m in, I will not take more to feel better. I’m just trying to find the combination of supplements that will get me off of it for good. I’m glad you found the cause before it really took hold of you. For me, I don’t know if I’ll ever get back the strength I lost from years of prednisone but after it pushed me up to 300lbs and diabetic I’m down to 170lbs and though your never cured from diabetes, I can eat whatever I want and have a resting heart beat of 60 and blood pressure of 96/64 which is pretty solid for a diabetic. Thanks for the video and I truly wish you a full recovery. You may or may not believe in God but I believe and I believe I was meant to catch this video after wondering why you lost a noticeable amount of weight and I don’t even follow you, you just pop up on my timeline and shorts and I noticed you were sick.

Dude, I have never used outside stuff to build. Strait up good food only. Thay was back when i lived with my folks. Had PILES of energy and a love for working physically hard. Pushed myself darn near every day. Was ripped and solid. And all that just from good wholesale food.

Solid advice my man… comjng from a Doctor of Physical Therapy for over 13 yrs ( my wife is the same and she is a certified health and wellness coach who deals a lot with nutrition to heal the body/ gut). Our healthcare system BLOWS in general. As you said, very rare to find practioners that actually take the time or care to really figure out what the cause of health issues are… the norm now is here are some pills see if theh help. Absolutely stupid! Good for you knowing your body and taking inventory enough to know they werent helping you. Bet those med bills were upwards of 15k… hopefully at least insurance covered part of it so your not hammered financially. Healthy food and exercise heal A LOT… you look good man despite the cluster you went through. Heal up and keep putting out good content… its solid my man coming from another bearded dude who knows a bit about health 🤙

Thanks for this video, super informative. I avoid most supplements for this and many reasons, but there are reputable companies out there.

The lesson is, don't take unnecessary shit. If you have a certain deficency, that is actually diagnosed, tackle that. If not, just eat normal food and go outside.
