I'd like to see Pantone release a color of the year puzzle every year! They could do a white border with the color name/number too. I wouldn't be able to solve it bc I'm pretty bad at puzzles, but it would be cool!
Yes! I am in a puzzle group on Facebook and there are always complaints that newer Springboks are not as good quality and don't stay together well. I don't know first hand as I haven't tried one yet. But such a shame.
I actually owned this puzzle when I was around 20 years old! A dear friend ( who is now my husband) bought it for me, knowing I loved puzzles. Anytime I talk to people about puzzles, I bring up the Flat Banana because it took me four months to build, although in my defense I was a full-time student with a busy social life at that time. At the end, I glued it all together because I never wanted to rebuild it again. Such a fond memory. Thanks, Karen, for reminding us how fun and therapeutic puzzling is.
vintage springbok puzzles look like an absolute joy to put together because of how thick the pieces are, it must be so satisfying being able to pick up large sections and not have them fall apart even if you were just staring at a whole block of YELLOW for quite some time 😂
It was a happy childhood memory. I would have been 7 or 8 in 1979/80 when I helped my parents assemble this puzzle in the living room. A year later, they divorced. I remember doing the red sticker part, probably the 2nd time it was put together. I didn't know it was a bragging rights thing. I wish I could say I did it as a child, but I probably didn't do it alone. If I could go back, I would. I'd do it all over again.
Karen, the amount of affort you take to make the few seconds of stop- motion puzzling at 17:19 is insane and unmatched! Chapeau🫡 best wishes from Austria, Europe
I need a company to release a rainbow collection of solid color puzzles with identical cuts - just so I can see what cool timelapses you make with them :)
I laughed out loud when you were tossing the puzzle around to show how sturdy it is and accidentally hit the camera and had some of the pieces crumble out. Never change, Karen, never change :D
Love how you brought up the issue about the Dole company. Awareness about these things is very important and I really respect you for that. I always love your videos!
When I was in London a couple of years back I bought a 1000 piece puzzle of the London Underground map as a souvenir. Little did I realize that, after all the tube lines and station names were in place, I'd end up with about 250 flat white pieces. Those pieces took far longer to put in place than the entire rest of the puzzle...
Hi Karen I was fortunate enough to pick up this yellow flat banana puzzle at Goodwill a year ago. I found some good "tells" that helped me put it together and I don't think you mentioned them already. I was glad to see that I had sorted the puzzle pieces as you had. I went a small step beyond and sorted them also based on color variances. 1. You must keep in mind that this isn't just a picture of yellow. It's a picture of a yellow banana. Color variances are expected. If one would look at a real yellow banana before starting this puzzle it helps your eye to notice the subtle shade differences at random points. 2. When looking at a real and firm banana one notices that of course it is not flat. Now picture what it would look like if you flattened it in order to take a picture. A very obvious thing would come to light. The banana peel itself is not flat. It has edges that give the banana its stability and firmness. Now, go back to the yellow flat banana puzzle box and look for the banana's edge. It should pop out to you now and you'll wonder how in the world you missed it before. I first saw it when I was taking a picture of the cover to show a friend of mine what puzzle I was going to do. (If you still can't find the banana edge, it's located down the center of the picture from top to bottom. The color variance is a distinct wide line.) 3. Camera filters can really help find color variances in a solid color puzzle. The subtle differences can leap out at you once you know what you're looking for. Lastly, nice job with this puzzle. It's on my list of ones that were most difficult to put together. All the best to you.
I hope to run across this puzzle one day -- I have a huge soft spot for difficult Springboks. Amazing camera work! It really brings out the vibrant colors (well, one color, mostly) in the puzzle, and watching it being assembled is satisfying in so many ways. Yellow!
I remember you mentioning this puzzle for, like, 2 seconds in your "Puzzles I Hate" video! "There was this one puzzle that's literally just Yellow - I don't think that would be very fun!" Really cool to see you having a good time and enjoying completing it now! 💛

I personally prefer an interesting picture or print over solid colours . Love your enthusiasm though so I could watch you complete any puzzle lol. Even plain yellow. I have just completed a 500 piece periodic table puzzle as a family effort. Usually I would do puzzles on my own but my son is obsessed with the periodic table right now so I suffered through sharing 🤣
This had me solidly craving some 💛 yellow 💛 banana candy throughout! Also, I always appreciate that if something is problematic about an element of a puzzle in some way, you try to take a moment to mention it. Thanks for doing that. 👍 As for a logo colour puzzle -- I'd kind of want to see a Doc Marten one, with the iconic yellow stitching around the edge of a solid black puzzle!
"What other companies would you want on a puzzle like this?" Maybe a glass or window company could put their logo on an otherwise clear/transparent puzzle.
Last year, I was gifted an old Ravensburger puzzle. I initially didn't want it because it was not an image I wanted to work on. But I was so happy I worked on it- the pieces were so very thick and even sections of two pieces didn't come apart. You could also lift it once finished. Pure joy- similar to this yellow puzzle. The sad thing is- they don't make them the same anymore.
Enjoyed watching this yellow puzzle video with my son. He's seven and definitely interested in puzzles. Thanks for making content that's family friendly
Right after seeing this premiere listed I’m rewatching a random old video (puzzles you hate) and in it you scoff at the idea of doing a certain solid yellow puzzle!

Working on a puzzle right now and decided to start with the solid blue sky... About 1/3 of the 1000 piece puzzle. Sorting the pieces (learned from you) helped soooo much!

i desperately want this puzzle now; don't care about the brand but this shade of YELLOW is my fave. i'd suffer through my first solid color puzzle to finish it!! ty for the vid!!
On your last video (the stats one), I ended up buying one that showed up -- the Sherlock Holmes one. It ended up being almost the exact opposite of this one: the pieces are all the standard 2in/2out shape, and there are a lot of false fits. The only trustworthy guide is the graphic, which is extremely detailed. I'm not sure how much I like it. All I can say is that if I weren't a Holmes fan, I might not even be finishing it. I definitely prefer something with an interesting graphic and shapes. I don't think I'd want to do a solid yellow puzzle, or any solid color ... unless it were fussy-cut. I'd love to see one that's solid red with springbok piece shapes, but included in there are pieces shaped like things that are red. Pieces shaped like hearts, poppies, apples, tomatoes, strawberries, a stop sign, etc.
The comics on the back of the box are very "punny", but also very clever! I happen to like puns. They are actually often difficult to create, and they cause your brain to have to do a little flip to make sense of them. However, I would like to object to the epithet "boomer humor". I prefer to think of it as "dad joke" humor or little kid humor, because it's clean yet clever. Also, the cartoon style of each panel is still being used today. It's proment in the Red Bull ads, for example.
Hi Karen, what's the length and width of your puzzle table? And would you ever do the 13200 piece Disney Orchestra puzzle? Working on it now and it's a lot of fun!
yellow! I've been binge watching some of your videos over the last few days and have been wondering. Since you puzzle for long periods of time at once is there anything you do to help your back from getting sore? I can only puzzle for 30 min or so at a time because my back starts hurting from leaning over the table.
Hey Karen, I would be curious to know how you think modern-day Springbok puzzles compare to the vintage ones in terms of piece shape, production quality, originality of their catalogue... would be a great video 😉
I recently gifted a "Pick me up Puzzle" to my grandparents. Supposedly they also stay together when picked up and that's a selling point in its own right. 😁 Don't know if they are sold in the US also.
Would you take on a solid colored puzzle like this? What color would you most want to look at for hours and hours?
That's a no from me!
A medium blue or green would be nice to look at for that long. …maybe😏
The Ravensburger Krypt solid colour puzzles are my favourite, there's a mint green one now too

"Pieces shaped like hearts, poppies, apples, tomatoes, strawberries, a stop sign, etc." That's clever!
I am so tempted to try a puzzle like this! This is super cool!
Allegedly, we have a beans puzzle in the loft somewhere. Just a whole puzzle of beans. Torn on whether I should get that out to do or not.
Do it!
Hi Karen, what's the length and width of your puzzle table? And would you ever do the 13200 piece Disney Orchestra puzzle? Working on it now and it's a lot of fun!
Amazing job finishing the solid yellow puzzle Karen. I think Target would be cool. They could make a solid red puzzle.
Happy Puzzling, Yellow!
Maybe it had been hanging on a wall for a bit, and has been faded from sunlight. Would make sense if the top part is slightly darker if so.
Maybe! I'm hoping someone else who has done this puzzle can weigh in.
Yellow, Karen, good job. Interesting and well presented thanks from Orlando Florida.
Reminder is on
Can't wait to see it👍
Your sorting routine is impressive and key to your swift solving. Good skill demonstration. (Nice working music. YELLOW)
this is so weird...I just made homemade Dole pineapple whip today... the cosmos are aligned lol. Another great video..!
Red and white for QANTAS Airways.
yellow! I've been binge watching some of your videos over the last few days and have been wondering. Since you puzzle for long periods of time at once is there anything you do to help your back from getting sore? I can only puzzle for 30 min or so at a time because my back starts hurting from leaning over the table.
I’m sensing that you’re now doing more premiere’s, and have opened up to Wednesday uploads too. Nice :)
Hey Karen, I would be curious to know how you think modern-day Springbok puzzles compare to the vintage ones in terms of piece shape, production quality, originality of their catalogue...
would be a great video 😉
Anyone else got really excited when she found that One Piece in the timelapse?
I recently gifted a "Pick me up Puzzle" to my grandparents. Supposedly they also stay together when picked up and that's a selling point in its own right. 😁 Don't know if they are sold in the US also.
I remember my late Mother had a jigsaw puzzle which was black apart from a strawberry in one corner! Took her ages to finish!
Color difference might just be due to aging, or sun exposure if it was a used puzzle, not the initial design.
