I wonder if any of the teams chose puzzles they just wanted to do in the prelim since their rankings didn't matter at all. Might be why a top team would choose a slower puzzle.
Hi! I'm Katherine from the Jigsaw Junkies. We admittedly picked a slower puzzle in the preliminaries purely by bad judgment. We realized about ten minutes into the pop art puzzle that it was a bad choice and regretted it!
Hi, I am Ana Gil, from Non-stop. In our case, during the Teams “qualifying” round, since we didn’t risk anything, we decided to pick two puzzles that implied a different strategy and ability, so that we would have the experience of performing in two different scenarios. I hope this can help you in your analysis of this round. Great work with the video, btw!
Incredible editing, that was a lot of footage to condense! What a fun, wholesome event. Obviously Karen is our Puzzle Kween but now I have a whole host of other puzzle celebrities to admire! 😀💕

Awesome job covering this! I guess I'll be watching the streams next year, but also hope you'll be able to make similarly awesome videos as well :) The stats were perfect! Also I had no idea CZ had so many people in this! What a pleasant surprise :) 59:26 For those who want to know, Tereza and Kateřina said: "So (I) greet everyone in the Czech republic who's watching, especially those in Prague, Brno, Ostrava... Before YT recommended your channel, I could not have imagined to be fascinated by puzzle competition! This channel is an island of joy and fun. Keep on, and thanks for your work!
Karen, your enthusiasm for puzzling is infectious and wonderful. Thank you for sharing your joy. This video obviously took a ton of work and was a total labor of love.
Ι was wondering if there is a rule about nationality in the pairs and teams competition until I saw that mixed team at the end. I guess the language barrier and the friendships inside the community were the leading factors for most people teaming up with their fellow compatriots. Anyway, wonderful video as always! ☺️
Yes, if you have people from multiple countries, you just have to pick one for your team to officially represent. And most teams practice together ahead of time!
I wondered as well because of these two mysterious members of the French team with no stats from the other rounds (that intrigue me) and Spanish sounding names (of course, they could have dual nationalities) I checked and I think they both participated, separately, in the pairs qualifiers, Juan Antonio Ávarez-Ossorio reached 73rd place (401 pieces) in qualifying round B with Antonia Mª García de Soria Aguirre, and José María Sánchez del Monte finished 78th (1:25:13) in qualifying round A with Sonia López Adrinal. I didn't find them in the individual rounds, so I guess they would only have one rank out of the 4 possible on Karen's layout (they didn't make it to the pairs finals), but they didn't came just for the team event. Now I wonder if they chose not to compete individually or if there was a selection to limit the number of contestants (I haven't watched the first video yet, maybe Karen mentioned it there, it's my next stop on RUclips) I think it is cool to see pairs and teams from different countries, or even just mix and matching of pairs for teams (even if it does make more work for Karen with the graphs). It might not be the most "efficient" way because of the possible language barrier, as you say, and the fact that it is harder to train together, but the image of people teaming up together anyways, united by their love of puzzles is really cool ! I wish there was a way to showcase that in the little name card for future editions, but I understand that it is easier to have a single nationality for each individual/pair/group because of the qualification rules, and also because of the lack of place on the name card.
Thanks Karen for having this channel and doing such an incredible job summarizing this event! I learned a lot and now, I'd just like to puzzle away all day long haha
I like to watch your videos while I puzzle. It's an INCREDIBLE feeling to hear epic music and cheering while I casually drink my coffee and putter on a 1000 piece puzzle alone in my living room. I highly admire the puzzlers who competed in Spain! I can't imagine performing under that pressure!
It’s always been my opinion that having two people makes a puzzle easier and any more than that makes it harder because you’re getting in each other’s way. It’s crazy to see how coordinated and disciplines these groups are where they can work together efficiently and stay out of each other’s way.
So much fun to watch! Congrats to all the INCREDIBLE puzzlers. I’m a super slow puzzler, do it to relax and don’t ever want to rush through a puzzle so competition isn’t for me but best of luck!
Thank you so much Karen. I’ve stayed up till 4 a.m. watching this. Thank you also to Katie for the beautiful charts. And last bit not least thank you to all the participants for all the entertainment.
Well done to all the incredible speed puzzlers. It was Intense to watch them work so fast and complete all these puzzles so fast with such concentration. I liked the relief and happiness they all felt at the end of each round. Thanks for a fun and informative video Karen. Good luck with your upcoming puzzle competitions 🧩😀
These videos (Parts 1 & 2) were an absolute joy to watch, in no small part due to your infectious commentary! I've always loved doing jigsaw puzzles, and had no idea of the competitive component until seeing the movie 'Puzzle' a few weeks ago. I immediately Googled "puzzle competitions in my area", and am delighted to report that I will be taking part in my first in two days! Who knows, we may compete at some point in time. Looking forward to watching more of your coverage in the future.
This was really cool! A small tip from a statistician. About the graphs of the pairs. Many of them showed huge amount of information with only a little explanation. I didn't know what I was looking at before you removed them from the screen again. I didn't understand what I was looking at. A great counter example was the final one, where you showed that only two teams existed of people in the top 20 of the singles. You highlighted those 4 people and explained what that small piece of data said. It was very clear. Do stuff like that more! EDIT: Graphs after the teams qualifier were much clearer. Less data per chart AND clearly explained what we were looking at
In general on RUclips, since people have access to pause buttons, leaving charts up for less time is more appropriate than on TV or in a presentation: people can look for as long as they want. (And many do pause and look!)
INCREDIBLE!!! Everything was INCREDIBLE the way you took all the footage and made a fantastic video forc all. INCREDIBLE individual, pair and team puzzlers so fun and fascinating to watch. I would love trying a speed puzzling event on a smaller scale to start, but would love to one day attend this event as a puzzle fan. Thanks Karen for your channel and look forward to your coverage of the USA jigsaw event this fall
I’m so glad I found this channel. I love doing puzzles - one of my earliest and fondest memories is doing a puzzle with my mom when I was a very little girl (which we framed and I still have). Nowadays, I do puzzles on my computer. I’m not fast by any means, but I enjoy it deeply.
It occurs to me that the teams who chose to do the difficult/fun puzzles in the team competition preliminary, could have done so since they were guaranteed to compete in the finals. The timing didn't really matter, so practicing on harder puzzles makes an amount of sense. Especially if you expect the final team competetion to be more difficult than the preliminary.
It’s just before 2200 here in the UK and I’m looking forward to the long video to finish the week on. Thanks for the time dedicated to making such a lengthy video!
Amazing work for this video!! So impressive 😍 thank you for the effort and passion you put to summarize the competition for us in this super engaging way! And a big thank you also to your sister, those graphs were clear and detailed and very informative (as an engineering student, I always appreciate some well done graphs ahah) And, INCREDIBLE work of all the participants, congrats!
It’s surprisingly intense watching people solve puzzles at high speed! Thanks for all the time you spent putting this together 😍 I’m hoping to get some speed puzzling practise in before next year and maybe come and compete too! 😁
Thank you for posting this heartwarming wholesome content! Loved the incredible puzzle-speeds and also your incredible effort in editing this masterpiece of a video.
I've been excitedly anticipating your Part 2 video recap of the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships and now it is here ! Karen, thank you ever so much for your hard work to edit this video and for sharing it with us. I watched much of the puzzle championship and was only disappointed because I felt I missed so much because of the language barrier. I would love to see an English translation or English subtitles while the event, itself, is being aired. I loved seeing the contestants from so many countries. They are all incredible puzzlers.
Your enthusiasm is wonderful to see and makes it much more interesting no wonder the championship hold you in high regard you are great for the jigsaw community.
I watched this while sorting a mystery puzzle and I’m almost done. I can’t believe how incredible all those puzzlers are who move so quickly through their puzzles. And am always impressed by how fast you, Karen, always go through your own.
I have been so hyped for this video! Big congrats to all the participants and winners :) It was definitely crazy intense to watch, and I agree incredible! Super fun that they sent you all those goodies, I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes next year :D
Alejandro said: "The matter of fact is that I´m still dealing with it. It´s been absolute pressure. Very nervous but well handled." PS Supernenas in Spain is how they call The Powerpuff Girls.
I love this so much 🙌🏻🙌🏻😁 Also Eckteile is German for Corner Pieces and is pronounced like Ecktaile you really emphasise the e as an a and the e at the end like the a in air.
For the Group qualifier the Czech team maybe purposely took the difficult puzzle to "practice" for the finals (because they couldn't lose anything no matter what happend) Ps: The way you pronounced "Eckteile" made me smile
I don't think I've ever finished a puzzle but your channel got me through lockdown. I also never thought I could be so invested in a puzzling championship!

Wow what a great video Karen! Never realised how “incredible” a 1 hour 8 minute video about the puzzle championship could be!! So happy and good luck at the competition in October even if I sadly can’t be there 🧩🧡
This is an amazing video about an incredible event! Thank you so much for your hard work, insights, and unflagging enthusiasm for the competitors’ achievements, and to Katie Puzzles for the fabulous data crunching and graphics. You’re both champions in my book! 🏆🥇🎖💐
Well done on an incredible job compiling this for us. I think as it gets more popular that there will be english commentary. Keep puzzling! Sending love from Australia 🇦🇺 the land down under!
I think you did an incredible job of publicizing and helping this event blow up even more, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has double the amount of participants next year. Hopefully the event continues to grow and provides a bigger platform of enjoyment and competition for the puzzling community. Maybe it will follow the same trajectory of the chess blow-up in the pandemic (though that was also helped by Netflix series and the Twitch streamers). I'm glad you're expanding your role from a solo puzzler to an ambassador.
Chess and speedpuzzling are similar in many concepts. I hope also that the chess-boom helps to pave up our way. Nevertheless, the FIDE was founded in the 1920s, one century of advantage!
This was absolutely incredible, seeing all these people do such big puzzles so fast, like jeez, it takes me an entire day to do a 500 piece puzzle and theyre doin 1500 piece puzzles in less than 2 hours
Planning to start puzzling just because this video. It seems really fun and your commentary making the livestream seems more enjoyable to watch. Hope to see some competition like this in my country lol
In a word: Fantastic. Thank you for the incredible dialogue. While I like puzzles and do put a few pieces in every now and then, I am going to have to look into joining the puzzlers at the senior center. I wish you had put more of your live comments in the video: the snippet you included showed how exciting this really is.
Great job, Karen. I love your passion and knowledge about puzzles. I do puzzles with my mom and i almost cry when i see teams of parents and sons. The lovely lady😍 These people are incredible, so fast. Just a wonderful video you made, such a work, thank you. 😘
I enjoyed this video so much, I didn't even notice the hour passing. All the graphs were fantastic (thanks Katie!) I kept pausing the video to study them (I enjoyed seeing which teams from 2019 reappeared on 2022). Also your little graphs on the side telling us where each member qualified on previous rounds. You can tell how much effort you put in this video and it was worth it. At first I was baffled about why the Czech team chose the art puzzle and then I remembered that it didn't count, so they probably chose it for sheer enjoyment. The team final was so intense! I was at the edge of my seat. Congratulations to every winner! They were incredible. (Alejandro being in every single podium shows that he deserves that trophy). And you're right, the design of the medals and the trophy is great. Alejandro was mainly saying that he couldn't believe he had won it all, that everything was very intense and he is in disbelief. I can't wait for that collab with Kristin, our favourite one handed puzzler (actually collabs with any of the participants). I'm tempted to go to next year's competition (I'll probably be in the city during those dates anyways). I want to comment even more but this is already too long. Great video Karen!
Incredible! Congratulations to all the competitors! Thank you Karen for another great video. Your editing skills are fantastic, the video was exciting and informative and the graphs were on point. Good luck in the USA competition! Can’t wait to see how you do 😀

I knit to these videos and you give great enthusiastic commentary so it's usually in the background while I knit, but I actually stopped knitting to see all the details and I love seeing all the strategies that go into it
I wonder if any of the teams chose puzzles they just wanted to do in the prelim since their rankings didn't matter at all. Might be why a top team would choose a slower puzzle.
Maybe someone who was there can weigh in on that theory here in the comments.
Hi! I'm Katherine from the Jigsaw Junkies. We admittedly picked a slower puzzle in the preliminaries purely by bad judgment. We realized about ten minutes into the pop art puzzle that it was a bad choice and regretted it!
I'm convinced the Czechian team just chose the art puzzle to flex their skills
Hi, I am Ana Gil, from Non-stop. In our case, during the Teams “qualifying” round, since we didn’t risk anything, we decided to pick two puzzles that implied a different strategy and ability, so that we would have the experience of performing in two different scenarios. I hope this can help you in your analysis of this round.
Great work with the video, btw!
Incredible editing, that was a lot of footage to condense! What a fun, wholesome event.
Obviously Karen is our Puzzle Kween but now I have a whole host of other puzzle celebrities to admire! 😀💕
Thank you for this beautiful labor of love! Everything was so entertaining, and your commentary took it to the next level!
I can’t believe how invested in puzzling I feel… this is amazing!!
This is such a great competition, I'm glad that there are so many people who love puzzles. Thank you for making this video so clear and fun to watch, i don't think i would have been able to watch the entire live stream. "incredible" job :D
Amazing report about the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship, hope to meet you next year Karen, and thanks for the shout-out!
Girl, you did an amazing job putting this all together with the help of your sister...thank you....it seems everyone loves our Aussie accent...Aussies are always proud when they wear the green and gold...yep I'm an Aussie....definitely agree that the final should be longer if they have puzzles of that difficultly 🇦🇺🐨
How incredible it is an one hour long video about a jigsaw competition to hold me entertained... Loved it.
I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, loved the full two video coverage!! all the stats
Truly blown away at how much work you put into editing these videos! Truly professional quality and i loved all the storytelling that you did! Everyone as well as you are absolutely incredible!
Awesome job covering this! I guess I'll be watching the streams next year, but also hope you'll be able to make similarly awesome videos as well :) The stats were perfect!
Also I had no idea CZ had so many people in this! What a pleasant surprise :)

"So (I) greet everyone in the Czech republic who's watching, especially those in Prague, Brno, Ostrava... Greetings home... The boys in Růžená... and (that's) all."
Before YT recommended your channel, I could not have imagined to be fascinated by puzzle competition! This channel is an island of joy and fun. Keep on, and thanks for your work!
When Karen said "if you're missing Kristin, don't worry, she's back" I felt so exposed, so seen, cuz yes, I indeed was missing Kristin
Great coverage! You really shine in explaining what sections to focus on and how well you gauge the puzzle difficulty.
I wondered as well because of these two mysterious members of the French team with no stats from the other rounds (that intrigue me) and Spanish sounding names (of course, they could have dual nationalities)
I checked and I think they both participated, separately, in the pairs qualifiers, Juan Antonio Ávarez-Ossorio reached 73rd place (401 pieces) in qualifying round B with Antonia Mª García de Soria Aguirre, and José María Sánchez del Monte finished 78th (1:25:13) in qualifying round A with Sonia López Adrinal.
I didn't find them in the individual rounds, so I guess they would only have one rank out of the 4 possible on Karen's layout (they didn't make it to the pairs finals), but they didn't came just for the team event. Now I wonder if they chose not to compete individually or if there was a selection to limit the number of contestants (I haven't watched the first video yet, maybe Karen mentioned it there, it's my next stop on RUclips)
I think it is cool to see pairs and teams from different countries, or even just mix and matching of pairs for teams (even if it does make more work for Karen with the graphs).
I am SO excited to watch this. Thank you for taking the time to edit and put these videos all together!!!
*but not least
Above and beyond with those charts and statistics! I can't imagine how much time and effort that took. Know that it is appreciated. So fun!!
Never knew puzzling had such a great and incredible community... So glad I watched both parts and can't wait for next year!
Karen you did such a great job! I can only imagine how much time you put into these recaps! Thank you so much this was such an adventure
Wow! You did an "incredible" job with your commentary for your final edit! Awesome! Loved it!
Absolutely loved this video! thank you so much for making it, you made the competition really fun to watch! ☺
It’s just before 2200 here in the UK and I’m looking forward to the long video to finish the week on. Thanks for the time dedicated to making such a lengthy video!
Thank you for your incredible work making this quirky world accessible to everyone. Spreading joy!
Amazing work for this video!! So impressive 😍 thank you for the effort and passion you put to summarize the competition for us in this super engaging way! And a big thank you also to your sister, those graphs were clear and detailed and very informative (as an engineering student, I always appreciate some well done graphs ahah)
And, INCREDIBLE work of all the participants, congrats!
It’s surprisingly intense watching people solve puzzles at high speed! Thanks for all the time you spent putting this together 😍
I’m hoping to get some speed puzzling practise in before next year and maybe come and compete too! 😁
I know, right? I'm going to be so stressed when it's time for me to try it in the fall!
Good luck Karen. I’m sure you’ll do well 🧩😀
Thank you for posting this heartwarming wholesome content! Loved the incredible puzzle-speeds and also your incredible effort in editing this masterpiece of a video.
Your commentary is what makes this so interesting for me. Never thought I would watch a puzzle championship like it were the Summer Olympics.
All of your statistics really elevated this video. I love it!
I have been so hyped for this video! Big congrats to all the participants and winners :) It was definitely crazy intense to watch, and I agree incredible! Super fun that they sent you all those goodies, I'm looking forward to hearing how it goes next year :D
What an incredible video, Karen. Thank you for such an informative and entertaining recap of this spectacular world puzzling event.
Alejandro said: "The matter of fact is that I´m still dealing with it. It´s been absolute pressure. Very nervous but well handled."
PS
Supernenas in Spain is how they call The Powerpuff Girls.
Thank you for the translation!
Wait... Really? In Latin America is "Las Chicas Superpoderosas". "Supernenas" sounds so weird to me 😆
@@unouni2548 De verdad.
I love this so much 🙌🏻🙌🏻😁 Also Eckteile is German for Corner Pieces and is pronounced like Ecktaile you really emphasise the e as an a and the e at the end like the a in air.
Came to the comments to say this! I'd pronounce it "Ekk- tile-a"
Great team name! Four corner pieces - four members - joining hands to hold together the whole puzzle
Good explanation!
For the Group qualifier the Czech team maybe purposely took the difficult puzzle to "practice" for the finals (because they couldn't lose anything no matter what happend)
Ps: The way you pronounced "Eckteile" made me smile
I don't think I've ever finished a puzzle but your channel got me through lockdown. I also never thought I could be so invested in a puzzling championship!
Alejandro was a star! Also, so sweet to see his mom looking proud from the sidelines.
Thank you for these videos. They are so relaxing to me! I don't know what it is about them, but they put me at ease and I enjoy watching you folks puzzle things out.
I really enjoyed this. Thanks for the hard work! I hope you get to interview (and talk strategy with) some of the top players in the future. Kristin Thuv is my hero!
Thank you Karen for summarizing the event I really enjoyed and thanks to your sister too. I am Australian and loved how to love our ascent. Thanks again
Yes! So happy you also did the part two!
This was an incredible video! It was so exciting. Great job, Karen!!!
Planning to start puzzling just because this video. It seems really fun and your commentary making the livestream seems more enjoyable to watch. Hope to see some competition like this in my country lol
Awww! I'm so glad they value you so much! You're clearly making a positive difference to the jigsaw scene.
In a word: Fantastic. Thank you for the incredible dialogue. While I like puzzles and do put a few pieces in every now and then, I am going to have to look into joining the puzzlers at the senior center. I wish you had put more of your live comments in the video: the snippet you included showed how exciting this really is.
SO GLAD PART 2 IS HERE
This was amazing! Thank you for covering such an incredible event. Love your channel.
I like to think that Team Puzzlici chose the art puzzle for fun, knowing they would make finals anyway!
You did an INCREDIBLE job editing and explaining everything. Thank you!
Send our thanks to Katie for the charts!
Great job, Karen.
I love your passion and knowledge about puzzles.
I do puzzles with my mom and i almost cry when i see teams of parents and sons. The lovely lady😍
These people are incredible, so fast.
Just a wonderful video you made, such a work, thank you. 😘
This was super fun to watch! Thanks!
Can’t wait to see how you do 😀
The competition should hire you and Katie for commentary and data analysis!
So excited for this video as I know you’ve spent a lot of time and effort on making these videos!
This entire thing was incredible to watch. I’m watching this late but watched from start to end because it was just so interesting and like so yeah incredible to watch
It took me a while to see part II - the teams were incredible to watch. I've followed you since you were a baby creator & I'm so happy that this version of you is getting recognize - on youtube & in the puzzling world.
