I haven't really seen anybody mention this, but I want to say thanks to families like the Brierleys who adopt lost children who would otherwise no home.
Yes, this thought comes to my mind too. Thanks to the adopted mother who kept an India map in his room. Most adopted parents will try to keep their children away from the biological family but they didn't. Instead, they reminded him not to forget about his root. This is an essential motivation for him to continue searching for his biological family.
Well I think most of human can remember some pieces of memories in their childhood, when they feel excited, sad, and traumatized at that time. It could be a thing, a corner, a place, a name or even a smell (?) He just collected them one by one to find the bigger picture, clues and the answer he need.
His adopted family are the best kind of people in this world. They embraced his culture from where he came from by hanging the map beside his bed, and in the meanwhile gave him a good life and raised a successful smart man. They did awesome, he did awesome, and his biological mother is awesome. I can only imagine that kikd of heartache of not knowing for both sides here. Amazing.
It is astounding that there are even 263 people in the world who could possibly even think of selecting the 'dislike' button for this wonderful story of a modern family reunification.
I recommend reading his book "A long way home." Available as eBook through all major vendors. Not a 100% happy reunion, however the best you could hope for given the rather unfortunate circumstances.
@AnOriginal Name I think that they were just trying to show people that Google and its utilities (Maps, etc.) are very helpful and powerful. And that it helped reunite a family. That's just my opinion
Wow. Breath-taking. I wish Saroo and his family the best life possible. I was adopted too, and I found my biological brothers, sisters and parents. But the relationship just does not work. So I hope Saroo has found his happiness and everything works fine.
THIS IS WHY I LOVE GOOGLE. Although technology can be used in negative ways, it can be used in amazing, beautiful, powerful, life changing ways too. Its just incredible what we can do nowadays, because of things like Google we are practically limitless. Plus I hear Google has a nap area, who doesn't like naps?!? :-D Beautiful story!!
Incredible story....so happy he could make his way back to his home...There's no better feeling than being home....but i feel really bad when i think of his brother guddu... U r one incredible man Saroo !!!!
1>many people came here from the film lion's trailer.....so if someone see's this here they will know the most emotional part even before watching the film 2>i dont think something this sad shouldn't be in the comments...let people know this by themselves.
I love it.I couldn't fully understood the speech, but I could feel the bond. The old Mother has sacrificed her whole life for the sake of her young son. Thanks.
amazing story.. loved the book and cant wait to see the movie Saroo. I have been to India 4 times so can relate as to how hard it would be to find your home. Simply wonderful story.. :)
He found his family. He is so lucky . It is very hard to find anyone in a country like India. Orphans are helpless . They need a family like barely family.
This Aussie mom put a map of India on his bedroom wall. That's the kernel that led him back home. What an amazing mother. Respect for this exemplar of selfless motherhood.
The ad is for Google Map, which was not used for Mr. Brierley's search. Google Earth which Mr. Brierley used in 2005-2011 were derived Earthviewer 3D from Keyhole Inc. Google Map started to integrate with Google Earth data since 2013, so this ad is a bit misleading.
That is a really heartwarming story of a man who used Google Earth to find his birthplace after being separated from there at a young age. It does have overtones of advertising strewn into it as it is Google trying to promote something, but still manages to be strongly emotional. Google Earth indeed has close zoom ups of the world, so using that to trace your steps and find the possible landmark point ends up as an invaluable and powerful tool for profound memories of your birthplace.
Awesome...god works in mysterious ways...if he hadnt gotten lost and adopted, he may not have been able to get the education and life he had in australia...and in the end, it helped his mum amd family out...loved it, especially because im from calcutta...
I watched the movie Lion, the story about his life. It was a beautiful movie, and you can't help but feel the pain that all who loved him had to have endured. But, here Saroo said that he went back and found not only his mom and sister, but also his older brother. In the movie, Guddu had died before Saroo returned to India. I wonder why there is a discrepancy, but hoping that what I just heard now is the truth.
estasiata da questa storia meravigliosa che fa riflettere sul senso della vita, sulla generosità d'amore dei genitori adottivi e sul coraggio e la determinazione di Saroo. Una storia unica e toccante che mi ha sconvolto ed entusiasmato.
Also he doesn't say it in this but he said in his other TV interview that he found out years later when he returned to the village that the reason he couldn't find his brother was because his brother had died that night looking for food for the two of them :'(
A grown up adult would do that, he was a boy, alone, scared, and many stations have more than one rail going to different destinations and he didn't know the name of his town.
I saw his story on The Project (an Aussie show) and it touched me. He also released a book about his story :) this isn't fake btw. This really happened to him.
Well done Sheru. God bless you.My adopted cousin brother doesnt even worth a penny. Not responsible for his mother in India nor have any passionate feelings for the family who adopted him.
This video only shows a snapshot of his story. I watched a longer documentary about it months back (I live in Aus). He loves his adoptive family and definitely considers them his parents. His parents supported his search because as you can imagine he has a lot of questions about what happened to his family. His mother and his bio mother have met and they are very ok with the situation
Im not sure if you were watching the same video but he didnt mention anything about begging for alms/money or his brother being dead.At the end of the video he does mentions his mum rang his family, HIS BROTHER and sister(2.27-2.30)......so im pretty sure his brother is not dead....
Hindi, not Hindu. I'm not trying to be smart or nitpicky, just clarifying. Hindi - the language spoken by the largest proportion of Indians, especially in the north. Hindu - the religion of a majority of Indians.
A book about his story was published last year, yes this story is real. The commercial is old relative to when the story was covered, it was extensively covered by Indian and international media.
That's crazy, after all those years. My damn kid better never fall asleep on the train. If this guy can get lost in india imagine NYC, they'll never find their way back home.

Same here! Specially the ending part where they show the real footage, I broke down.

What movie
This may be weird to say this to a 2 year old comment, but the movie, Lion (2016).
Amazing.

The movie is coming out, from the looks of it, it hopefully does justice to Saroos journey :')

dev patel from the Lion trailer brought me here. Incredible story.

Me too, but I've heard this story before...so touching. It's good that they make it into a movie.
Every adoptee needs to know their story. This one makes me cry. He now has two moms!
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down???
Bigotry or racism is my guess.
They give thumbs down coz they are insecure, trolls, mentally ill...or such. Oh well.
Probably cause google is using this story as a marketing tool
@AnOriginal Name I think that they were just trying to show people that Google and its utilities (Maps, etc.) are very helpful and powerful. And that it helped reunite a family. That's just my opinion
Thank god he found his mom, I cannot imagine losing both sons in one night! God is good
Wow. Breath-taking. I wish Saroo and his family the best life possible. I was adopted too, and I found my biological brothers, sisters and parents. But the relationship just does not work. So I hope Saroo has found his happiness and everything works fine.

The movie brought me here ... Happy for you that you eventually found your family man 😍 😍
Thanks for your determination. You give us hope in these sometimes confused world. God bless you!
A great story of motherly love and the return of a son to his mothers
Good movie. I'm glad Saroo found his way home to his biological family.
This is incredible. Honestly all I keep thinking about is how whomever made or help made google earth happen must’ve felt when they heard this story.
Beautiful work! The editor is a genius! Congratulations, Google Maps, an a fantastic ad.

The satisfaction of developing this technology… no monitory rewards can match ….

He had two older brothers, Kullu and Guddu. Kullu is mentioned but not shown in the movie. Guddu did die, sadly.
