This story doesn't get the credit it truly deserves. No Oscar or any award will ever come close to the essence of the story about a child and feeling alone and away from his Mother and siblings. I cried openly during this film and it's no shame to admit that being a grown man.

I want to say something for everyone to see. I am an Indian but I was born and raised in the United States. My father was born in India. He grew up on the third story of a run down apartment building that only had one bedroom with his two brothers, mother, and father. Like Sheru (Saroo) he had to support his family at such a young age. My dad focused on his family and school. He skipped two grades in school. He went to medical school at 16 years old and is currently an Anesthesiologist. He moved to the U.S. and had kids. He would get me and my siblings things that his family would never be to afford for him. My dad was able to make a living when he came from a one bedroom apartment. He has spent his whole life supporting his family. I am very lucky. We all are. These kind of things happen every day in these countries. What makes me really mad is that from what I see is kids here in the U.S. are saying that they want to die when their parents take away their phone. They don't realize what is actually going on in this world. This story was absolutely heartbreaking to me. And if you didn't know saroo has been saying is name wrong when he was little. It was actually sheru which means lion. I just wanted to send this message out. Thank you and tell your parents and siblings you love them every time you see them❤️
just saying you act as though you yourself had hardships but in this case, your father had the hardships and as you say "would get me and my sibling's things that his family would never be to afford" so it seems strange that you are preaching to others on the basis of what your father and in some cases acting more knowledgable then others to the point where you can make judgements on others (including hate them) not because they had a better life than you but simply because they might have grown to have differnt values and expectations in life meaning they would consider a phone something that is almost a human right alongside basic nessities while you from what you have written might only consider basic nessities part of human rights. Although i do support what you are saying.
well to say the truth i believe she is being a attention seeking liar ... she is copy pasting this literally to every lion movie related video there is ....
This story made me cry so much. I know what its like to lose someone precious to you and not see them for yrs. The fact that he remembered anything at five was amazing to me. Sheru was as very special boy. I hope the movie gets an Oscar. It's a true story and a fascinating and touching one.
Child actor played an amazing role. He really deserve an OScar . Such a heart broken story make me cried . Such a beautiful Australian couple who adopted him and gave a beautiful life . 5 yrs old have such an amazing memories that help him to find his home .
Just finished watching this, I was balling! It was so hard to see all the poverty but also moments of happiness. I also feel so terrible for so many kids who live on the street and that orphanage is terrible. I’m just happy he was reuniting with his family. What a powerful story.
Exactly my thoughts!! As a 5 year old boy, moving on could have been the easier choice.. but the love he had for his family was so pure it created was literally is a miracle. Love!
This put a tear in my eye, and so did the movie. Thank you to the kind people on Australia who gave him love, taught him kindness and a place to grow up for him. And thank you Saroo for helping out kids who haven’t been very lucky.
Saroo took 6 years to look for his mother and brother or neighborhood through just a memory of a picture from childhood on google maps. It’s sort of like if you want something bad enough, eventually you willl get it.
Ahhh man where was i for such a long years not to find this amzing Story…it changes my perspevtive about life…great great movie and what a true expetience of life Gb
This kid had his life ruined and done but these angels came from australia and found him, turned his situation around and gave him life. What a heart touching amazing story.
Out of all movies ive seen in my life, this one had me in tears. Little Saroo what a champ and jesus christ poor mother, thank god they got to reunite, she waited 25 years !
I agree. To everyone out there ; you may WANT biological children, but you could not possibly ever WANT them more than a child in one of those institutions NEEDS safety, someone to Love and cherish them, to have proper food and medicine, to feel wanted, to have a place to call home, to hope, a real childhood and every chance to thrive and turn into a healthy, sane adult. Are children in places like that in Calcutta Less deserving of all the above because they simply share less of your genes than your own child would?
I can really relate to this movie and story. Very happy for Saroo able to find birth mother, that moment I'd cried more then any other scene. Someday I hope and dream of I can meet mother and rest of family too. Until then I will always love and cherish my adopted family forever and ever!
he must be very thankful that Google made a Google Earth or else he would have never found his family. This story is amazing that a 5 year old boy survived all of that, and I can't believe I'm saying this but the orphanage for abandoned kids was his last shot at finding his real family and thanks to his Australian parents he was able to find his family.
The story of this guy moved me a lot. Knowing that he's been through all of this makes me really sad! And knowing that so many children live in those conditions makes me angry! Nobody should ever have these kinds of bad experiences! I can't imagine the pain the mother felt in losing two children that day... Poor brother! He deserved to be happy, now I hope he is resting in peace seeing his little brother who has found his way home. It's a very moving story and what makes it so touching is that it's a true story... I am sorry for all those children who have to suffer in this way and I hope that each of them can finally find happiness! (Sorry if my English may not be perfect, I hope the concept is clear)
God has a perfect plan for Saroo. I can imagine how he was goin' through. Everythin' falls into place with the creator's plan. His second parents are amazin'. God bless them!

I can't get over this. His family of origin were so loving, shared everything and Saroo was so smart and intuitive knowing when to run and whom to love. The adopted brother's story was tragic. I would imagine he was damaged by abuse in India and it could not be undone. The movie is a testament to love and perseverance.
Just saw this film yesterday and was so moved by it. This is a story that simply had to be told! Bring a box of tissues with you too. I can't stop thinking about it!
This is one of the best real life stories and movie I've watched. Not sure if I was better off with or without watching it. Since I've watched the movie, I've been feeling very disturbed just by imagining what this guy must have gone through in his childhood.
He is a survivor and at 5 years of age lost 2000 miles from home he is smart beyond his years. He relied on his gut instincts when evil was around him that he had sense enough to run from it. Amazing story it could've ended up badly for him to but it didn't. Truly an inspirational story.
What's even impressive is the kid who plays young Saroo, this is his first movie ever, he'd never seen a camera or a film before... And yet he delivers better expression than anyone...
My favorite movie! Losing his brother is the hardest part😭 they were so close. There happy reunion is great. Another wonderful part is that Sunny Pawar was living on the streets of Mumbai when he landed the part of young Saroo. He stole the hearts of the world and pulled his family out of the slums just as the real Saroo did❤️💯
I still cry when I watch this movie and I feel so proud when his mother ( Australian ) cry when she meet his real mother and im cry again it's seem like she so goood and so kind ❤️❤️
This is one of the most beautiful movies I have ever seen. The story alone is heartbreaking and captivating, but the cinematography and soundtrack are wonderful as well. Sunny Pawar and Dev Patel did a fantastic job.
What a movie. So touching. I couldn't stop talking about this movie that was based on a true story. My heart goes out to the little boy who played the part in the movie. What a talent. He should be nominated for an Oscar. Just great.
India could be a good country in so many ways! But when there are such problems like this, instead of denying it and hiding, wouldn't it be better if people try to do something about it? No problem can be solved if you keep denying its existence ! Coming from a third world country, I'm not ashamed to talk about such problems of the country so that I could get help to the right people . It's sad!
thili f nobody is denying... Yes we leave in a country where million people take shelter or sleep along side the road.! Yes we leave in a country where millions ppl don't have toilets..! Bill Gates said 'If u r born poor is not your fault If you u die poor its your fault..!👍 One day we will prove.
sonu Kohli I'm not talking about people who accept the situation like you. I'm talking about some people who are more focused on defending the situation by saying things like "We are not the only country like this blah blah blah" . Instead of comparing if people like such, accept the situation as it is, then something could be done. Anyways it's really great they made a movie out of this guy's life so that it shows how most of the other kids also suffer. At least someone somewhere will think of them and do something.
It is a good country. Its been poor for 200 years, which is a very little time in terms of human history. Things are getting better but India will revive again.
Abeyshe it will take its time. It got independence just 70 years ago, and has made great progress in that period. It's got a ton of problems but it will take time. I mean even America took more than 200 years to become what it is rn.

Thank you and tell your parents and siblings you love them every time you see them❤️
dorothy vig Thank you for sharing!
dorothy vig nostalgic one.... 👍
just saying you act as though you yourself had hardships but in this case, your father had the hardships and as you say "would get me and my sibling's things that his family would never be to afford" so it seems strange that you are preaching to others on the basis of what your father and in some cases acting more knowledgable then others to the point where you can make judgements on others (including hate them) not because they had a better life than you but simply because they might have grown to have differnt values and expectations in life meaning they would consider a phone something that is almost a human right alongside basic nessities while you from what you have written might only consider basic nessities part of human rights. Although i do support what you are saying.
well to say the truth i believe she is being a attention seeking liar ... she is copy pasting this literally to every lion movie related video there is ....

And you are following her.
What is your agenda?
This story made me cry so much. I know what its like to lose someone precious to you and not see them for yrs. The fact that he remembered anything at five was amazing to me. Sheru was as very special boy. I hope the movie gets an Oscar. It's a true story and a fascinating and touching one.
Child actor played an amazing role. He really deserve an OScar .
Such a heart broken story make me cried .
Such a beautiful Australian couple who adopted him and gave a beautiful life .
5 yrs old have such an amazing memories that help him to find his home .
The little boy who played Saroo as a 5 year old, deserves 10 Oscars!
The kid deserves more credit.. he was incredible..
Man I cried like a baby watching this moving. Such good acting, you actually feel his pain and anguish
Just finished watching this, I was balling! It was so hard to see all the poverty but also moments of happiness. I also feel so terrible for so many kids who live on the street and that orphanage is terrible. I’m just happy he was reuniting with his family. What a powerful story.
Absolutely incredible story. First time I saw my father crying was during this movie.
Amazing, that little boy had so much love for his little family and he treasured it so much that it brought him home again. Amazing!
Exactly my thoughts!! As a 5 year old boy, moving on could have been the easier choice.. but the love he had for his family was so pure it created was literally is a miracle. Love!
Their (the family’s) love for him as well, must have been so strong and cherished by him, that he came back searching for them.
The most incredible story ever. Sobbed all the way to San Francisco from Manchester on the plane. God bless all the street children.
Can't stop 😭 so Much love between his two mothers ! God bless
And brothers
This put a tear in my eye, and so did the movie.
Thank you to the kind people on Australia who gave him love, taught him kindness and a place to grow up for him. And thank you Saroo for helping out kids who haven’t been very lucky.
NoOne is talking about how this guy has got some insane long term memory
When you go through trauma, you never forget. That's a wound on your heart.
The little version of saroo (Sunny Pawar) in the film was played so well WOW he deserves more recognition
bolly wood did not find this story to make movie . Indians are happy with movies on shela ki jawani and chikni chamelis
manjunath s bollywood sucks
exactly
😂😂
True
Exactly
Australian mother has impeccable maturity
"This world has enough people in it, so we decided to adopt you".
How can you dislike this. This is a amazing story a person what he went through. Appreciate this more
I can really relate to this movie and story. Very happy for Saroo able to find birth mother, that moment I'd cried more then any other scene. Someday I hope and dream of I can meet mother and rest of family too. Until then I will always love and cherish my adopted family forever and ever!
lot of respect from me to that family who adopted saroo
Aniruddha Mohite this is why I keep telling people of other colors , not all white People are Evil!
he must be very thankful that Google made a Google Earth or else he would have never found his family.
A miracle! The parents who adopted and raised him were amazingly kind hearted individuals to not feel resentful that he still wanted to go "home".
I still can't get over the feeling that guddu had passed away 😔😭
Thank you Sheru for not giving up, your story give so much hope to others to find their lost family.
the movie is very emotional
Veryyyyyy is greatttttttt
God has a perfect plan for Saroo. I can imagine how he was goin' through. Everythin' falls into place with the creator's plan. His second parents are amazin'. God bless them!
what about for the 80,000 kids who go missing in india each and every year.........what is the plan for them?
@@EchoBravo370 How will I know😂? There are so many fishy things going on everywhere in the world. There are trafficking, kidnapping around. Hope they are saved by good NGOs or personal good people who are in the hunt to stop such treatment.
I’ve seen this movie 3 times and cry every time. It is emotional and inspirational. So grateful that he was able to find his family- a true miracle. God bless
You will never tire of watching this movie.
This is one of the best real life stories and movie I've watched. Not sure if I was better off with or without watching it. Since I've watched the movie, I've been feeling very disturbed just by imagining what this guy must have gone through in his childhood.
I cried so hard at the end omg I was like choking... this makes me think about all the people suffering around earth 🌏
I've cried my eyes out multiple times, it's the most beautiful story I've ever seen.
I cried so much I couldn't BREATHE
A very emotional story, never give up
U know what...the little saroo and guddu...they melt my heart...
I couldn't stop crying. This truly a beautiful story. RIP Guddu
One of the most amazing stories I’ve ever heard and seen, the little boy sunny , is phenomenal!!!!
what happened to his brother breaks my heart. The guilt and die trying to find his younger brother is so amazing. Indian brotherhood is amazing.
And I'm still crying but I'm so happy his helping other kids in his same situation God bless this man we need to be more like him and help other .
This film is powerful.
At least someone somewhere will think of them and do something.
thili f I appreciate your words..! It is better to accept the reality rather than making excuses or defending...!!!👍
Is such a beatifull film, deserves a lot of awards and nominations.cried so much and glued to the screen.
What a heartbreaking story. I started crying the first 15 minutes of movie and throughout. Superb acting by young Sunny. Thank God Saroo was smart and strong and never gave up hope. 🙏❤
We Indians will always be grateful to Saroo's family who adopted Saroo and gave him a good life.
When saroo got hit by the motorbike and drops the melon, as he runs home Clutching his head broke my heart😭😢
His real name is Sheru, in English it means Lion
Actually Sher is lion. Sheru loving way of saying it like John= Johny
Like Sher -khan the jungle book movie
I cant stop my tears for this movie... huhuhu
I am reading the book "Lioness" by Sue Brierley, Saroos adoptive mum at the moment. She is such a strong beautiful lady.
A real lion and an amazing surviver. You have truely inspired us and reminded us that as humans you must never give up. Thankyou for showing me and an awful lot of others that we can achieve something, which maybe feel impossible at that moment. thankyou
One of my favourite movies. I cried the whole time. Just the thought of all the other children that go missing everyday breaks my heart. The little boy who played young Saroo was AMAZING!!!! I am so sad Guddu died.. ☹
I lost one of my daughter's in a mall for about 3 minutes, when she was 5 and the panic is beyond description, I can't even fathom anything worse...love you Weeza, glad we found you
I got lost at McCormick Place in Chicago at 12
Didn't have sense enough to go up to a security person.Ha!
Wandered around ..
Folks found ma after a while.
I just got done watching the movie and I really thought he was going to see his brother again 😭💔 my heart is broken
This story is on that every parent should hear and see with this movie. Beautifully done and definitely should have won, in my opinion. My son looks just like saroo in the movie so it was extra emotional thing of his life. Bravo and happiness
R.I.P The brother
Should have won Oscar thathe moonlight ain't got a patch on lion
Jamie Moore I thought Moonlight was more interesting and compelling story throughout.
John Hansmeyer Moonlight was great but I thought Lion was better IMO
Anto Viamonte agree with you. So much better than moonlight
actually, it does. Moonlight was groundbreaking on multiple levels.
Moonlight won cause of the lbgtq movement
i cried so much at the ending of this true to life movie while reading those words, can't imagine what saroo feels, and his mom as well knowing that she can't read and write and her work was lifting rocks, how can she find her son when she has nothing😢
