I actually followed the story when it actually happened back in 2011. I couldn't believe the reason of displacing the children. Norway broke an Indian family. What is surprising is that they placed condition of divorce to give back the children to their father. As usual husband & inlaws agreed which obviously refused by wife. I read several Norweigian blogs at that time. The careworkers accused of not giving the elder boy good quality beef. They are so illeterate they dont even know Hindus di not generally consume beef. Also they accused mother of giving curd rice (bengali mixes rice with curd). Norweigian don't consider it as food. My goodness. All scandanevian countries are same. If anyone wants to live better better live alone. Or if your luck runs out you will loose your children forever. For Sagarika's case if Indian govt did not intervene she would have never got back her children. And ovbiously her husband left her like a coward.

We feed kids with hands, keep them in our bed when they are little, like literally my son is sleeping on my left arm while I type this text..etc. I am so sorry that this mother and many other mothers who have gone through this torture. It's no secret that many immigrants beat and abuse their kids. I'm sure Germany and other European countries have had thousands of cases where this is the case. Do you blame them for taking precautions and/or acting in such a way? And you act like India, Pakistan and other such countries are perfect and never do anything like this. Human rights violations are common in that part of the world. If you hate Europe, and European ways so much, why go? Stay in your country and create your own opportunities, or fix your country. I get the impression Norway is a somewhat Orwellian society and they are accepting as long as you embibe their culture. We met an Indian couple many years ago who had recently moved to our area in the US from Norway. They had a son who was about 6 and they often spoke of how awesome Norway was and frequently wore Norwegian style sweaters. They didn't find much success in the US and ended up moving back to Norway two years later. I think the moral is, Norway is a fine place as long as you drink their Kool-Aid.

A lot of western countries? This was just Norway which was shown in the movie. It's a small country with less than 1% of the west's whole population. It does not represent the entire west by any means.
For example spanking children is accepted to some extent in UK and USA but not in scandinavian countries so not all western countries are the same either.

@@cg8397I've read several articles about the case online. Generally the journalism is poor and sensationalist. What is clear is what I said. After succeeding in gaining custody of her children, she and the children returned to India in 2012. However she left the children in the care of elderly relatives, even moving to a different town. I can understand economic pressures to work and provide. But the whole story does not add up. Of course the 2023 film had to make her the victim to serve the narrative film sales and fit the Indian government's nationalist agenda. It is sad that Indians, with so much history, culture and education, could not have produced a more reflective and nuanced film. So many Indians seek to migrate and have limited understanding of how things work. Often after a few years of working abroad, men return to India to be married. Their new brides may not be familiar with life in the West (usual scenario). The women may be housebound, stuck with young children without an adequate support system. That reality could have made for a more balanced film.
