Mark Farner.... Bass guitar (early), drums (Black Brass song), keyboards (before Craig Frost joined), Lead Guitar, Incredible Lead vocals and writer of 90% of the GFR material. One of the most talented front men to ever walk onto a stage in the history of music. What a talent and still touring to this day...
Pride of Flint Michigan. Kick ass band.
You're not finished with Grand Funk my friend. This was probably their biggest hit released in about 1973. I remember it being played constantly on the radio. You've probably heard their other number one hit "Locamotion". I also remember "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" and "Some Kind of Wonderful" which I really got into as a young guy.
As a band, they were terribly underrated in the late 60's and early 70's. I'm sure there are others songs that I just can't remember right now. I think you will like all of the ones I listed.
I always felt like these guys were like a garage band that always played with the intensity of guys that just liked making music. Almost like they didn't care if they had an audience or not. That's what I liked about many bands in that era. I know they really worked hard for commercial success and it's great that they found it.
The title “Some Kind Of Wonderful” sound super familiar… going to add it to the playlist! I like that description of a “garage band.” Feel wise they remind of a more modern band like “Green Day” …another garage band that just enjoyed making music. I truly appreciate the insight, info, and your taking the time to watch Keith! 🙏🏾
I love the raw sound of Inside Looking Out
Can never turn this song off! I can listen to it over and over!
Damn near made me hope in my car and go for a ride just to listen to it again lol 😂
The guys are from flint michigan.formed 1969.i was lucky enough to be in my teens in the Detroit area at that time.bob seger, ted nugent,Mitch ryder,Grand funk,iggy.... please do "closer to home" LIVE!
Oh wow! Been learning lately just how much music has came out of Flint surprisingly. And let me go ahead and add “Closer To Home to the playlist! Thanks Rodney!
I spent many weekends in Detroit hitting concerts during that time! What a great time it was. You forgot Alice Cooper and I saw Humble Pie, Savoy Brown, and many others. Did you go to Goose Lake?
@@abovetheinfluence9361 Check out their version of I'm your captain "Closer to home" live from Shea Stadium 1971. It's a mesmerizing performance of a great song.
Right there with you....Grew up in Flint. Met Seger when he was just starting and when Rush came to town it was wild as a Kid. Flint was fun back then!
By the time this song was released, the group had dropped Railroad and we're known simply as Grand Funk.
Again, the most underrated rock band of all time.
The boys from Flint, Michigan. Mark, Don and Mel.....GRAND. FUNK. RAILROAD!!!
Foot Stomping Music, inside looking out and Heartbreaker LIVE capture the essence of GFR to name just a few
You have to react to Grand Funk Railroad Inside Looking Out - 1969. Trust me. It’s live.
Born and raised in Detroit - GFR, Bob Segar, Amboy Dukes, MC5, my God I was BLESSED. And oh yeah, BTW.... MOTOWN!!!!
From the great lake state of Michigan, Flint Michigan to be exact. My home boys from Late 60s and Early 70s they had many hits including this one.
Hey brother, great band. Through the years, they were usually a three-piece without keys. The drummer Don Brewer did sing great and played full on, but the guitarist Mark Farner is their lead singer. I recommend "Inside Looking Out". There is a cool live version of this on RUclips. Thank you and much love.
From Flint Michigan, seen Mark Farner January 28th in Flint at 74 he rocked. Watch the video inside looking out live 1969
They got their name from the railroad trestel with Grand Trunk Railroad painted on it. It crossed the main drag in Flint.
HEARD THIS SONG WHEN I WAS 11 YEARS OLD. ALREADY PLAYING 3 INSTRUMENTS. THE KIT, CELLO, TROMBONE.
HEARD THIS......HOLY SHIT!!! A PARADIGM SHIFT IN MY MUSICAL SOUL TOOK PLACE!!!! THE FREAKIN' DRUMMER WAS THE SINGER?!!! HELL YEAH!!!
HEAVY WITH A MAJOR, YET SMOOTH GROOVE!!
GRAND FUNK RAILROAD

These guys are from Flint, Michigan. Before they were famous they played the local bar scene and rocked the house every time. Check out the song Inside looking out. Do the live version. I promise you wont regret it.
and yes, the most underrated band ever. back in 2006, someone did a campaign to introduce at RRHM in Cleveland. I put my signature... but they never gave any chance on it... anyway
Love it! Check out grandfunk "inside lookin out " live 1969. You'll dig it !
You have to watch INSIDE LOOKING OUT LIVE! Funkiest funk you’ve ever heard.
He is one of two great singers in here….
You would love "Some Kind of Wonderful," and might even appreciate "Bad Time."
Nobody ever mentions Stop Looking Back or Paranoid. a couple of my favorites.
Deetroit baby! Footstomping Music will blow your ears off!
Michigan! Yes! ❤️
"footstompin music",,,,,,,"rock and roll soul" should be next !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some kind of wonderful next pleeeaze!!!
This was filmed at Marks "Singing Spruce Farm" in the hamlet of Parshallville Mi with "The Swamp" recording studio across the road..I owned a little shanty water side cabin there where Mark was fishing..This was their chart topping come back album after their legal and financial debacle with manager Terry Knight..
from 1972, I think you'll like another Grand Funk Railroad tune: Flight of the Phoenix Enjoy! Subscribed

You need to react to live version of "Inside Looking Out", and you'll see where they get their name from. 1969live show.
These guys are from Michigan and the drummer and guitarist both sing lead
Grand Funk Railroad straight outta Flint, Michigan....
Just saw Foreigner suggested! I second that! Waiting For a Girl Like You or I Wanna Know What Love Is.
From near Flint Michigan. Greatest band NOT to be in rock and roll HOF. I seen them live in 1974, MSG. Excellent show. Great live band. Many hits in early 70's.
They got the name from the grand trunk railroad foot stomping music is great
They got their name from the Grand Trunk Railroad that went through town.
Still know every word, lol!
NOW "INSIDE LOOKIN OUT" live 1969. GREAT !
Inside Looking Out.
That video was made in a different time and a different world. 1973 I think. We pulled out of Vietnam in 1975 and they called off the draft . The same year I turned 18. Thank God. Those were some good years as I remember. I'd hop into my 1965 Oldsmobile Jetstar 1 , light up a number and head off down the road,. my long hair blowing in the wind. Good music and good times. Sorry for gettin all nostalgic. The Grand Funk red album was the first one I ever bought with my own money. Oh, by the way, Mark Farner"s guitar,( the one with tape on it in the inside looking out.video}, is in the rock and roll hall of fame. The group never made it.
YOOOO!! Turn it da ef UP! Who's ready?!
While they had many hits this was their only number 1 hit song in 1974.
It’s an absolute shame that the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame has snubbed these guys because they absolutely deserve and I mean deserve to be in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame, just sad!!
Inside Looking Out
Just saw GFR play last night! They still rock and sound amazing! The lineup is
their original drummer/vocalist, Don Brewer, and original bassist, Mel Schacher. But they added Max Carl as lead vocalist… he used to be in 38 Special… and the keyboardist used to tour with Robert Palmer and I think a little with Bob Segar. They sounded great! It was a last minute decision to go and best decision of the day!
Oh you must react to the live version of Inside Looking Out! It is Awesome and I think you would really enjoy it! Keep On Rockin'
you need to see 1969 live inside looking out, awesome video.
So young
What sound!! The d❤rums! Is the best
this song was a direct response to the British musical invasion in the US.
Their from Michigan.
Have to watch their performance of “Inside looking Out” like several have recommended. It’s incredible.
These cats hail from Detroit area and they had some hits! Both the drummer and lead guitarist sing. Try “Inside Looking Out LIVE” for a real treat!
Saw this band in concert. Great show.
It was the time of the so called "British Invation" when most of the popular bands were british, imagine a 3 piece rock band making a statement with a wonderful piece!
This was a huge hit in 1973 they got their more polished sound from Todd Rundgren their producer for this album who just went into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A fantastic rock-and-roller in his own right
Great Band! Personal Favorite, Rock n Roll Soul (studio version)
Next on your list is Closer To Home. Check it out.
They're from Flint, Michigan. I grew up with them and became a pro musician in part because of them.
Mark Farner is the lead singer.
Carmine Appice is a great drummer and SINGS.
The drummer is Don Brewer!
Bro! You ain't heard nothin' yet! You haven't felt their funk until you've heard "People Let's Stop the War" from their E Pluribus Funk album. I promise...you'll love it!!
you gotta love a white guy with a fro.👍👍👍
You need to hear inside looking out 1969
"Inside Looking Out" - Grand Funk Railroad - Please React.......
Detroit garage band is what they where called
The name of the band is a derivated of Grand Trunk Railroad. They took its name changing to "Funk" instead.
From that state up North! If u know what I mean!
Just keep digging . Black liquorice
Hey new subscriber here! If you like Grand Funk please do a reaction to "No Lies" the most underrated GFR song ever!
Regards from Ontario 👌👌
I've just jumped on your bandwagon and subscribed because I like the cut of your jib. Don't do anymore Grand Funk for a while (except maybe Some Kind of Wonderful) because there are just too many better bands and songs you probably haven't heard yet and there's simply not enough time left in your lifetime to react to them all. The drum intro to this jam, though? Yeah. It's iconic.
Released 1975. Listen to rock n roll soul
The lead singers dad was killed by a train...hence train in the name.long story.
Listen to Inside Looking out GFR
They sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles and Led Zeppelin…the most underrated band in history.
Why they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond me!!! Deep dive on them is a gift. Lol
Bros with fros
1973
it's hard very disappointing to believe that people have never heard this music before it is like really a Poverty of musical spirituality
This group was one of the first to record on quadraphonic sound with four different tracks. To listen to them properly you had to have four speakers. Sadly the unique sound of quad did not last long.
This band blows
Don brewer
Awesome! Gotta do their masterpiece, "Inside Looking Out" next! ruclips.net/video/NxcOxvEsE_Y/видео.html
Mark farmer
Try caught in the act you, black licorice
I don't know if anybody suggested but inside looking out and milk shaker is the basis and I believe he's the only one who doesn't sing on any songs. Don Brewer is the drummer. I think his name is John Farner is the lead singer most of the time lead guitarist these guys are awesome and I believe they're from Michigan
FLINT ROCKS
