Mark Farner, the lead singer, allowed the drummer full writing credits on this song and it turned out to be their biggest hit.
MORE COWBELL!!! LOL One of the greatest hard driving rocking songs ever. As soon as you hear that intro, gotta turn it up to 11. "Sweet, sweet Connie doin' her act, she had the whole show that's a matter of fact..." Connie was a real person that was a "special" groupie.
"I gotta have more cowbell baby!"
"I got a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell" ... ;0)

I'm your Captian, The Locomotion, Bad Time for a start !. Outstanding !!!.
Ladies if you haven't
listened to Grand Funks...
"Closer to Home"
"the studio version"
you' ve got to. It's the first of the 4 Rock and Roll Anthems. In other words the greatest rock songs of all time.
😊
Great to see Lulu is gaining confidence in herself.✌🏻❤️
Then you absolutely need to hear "Closer to Home". Amazing!
I went to the same high school as Don Brewer, the drummer (he was many years ahead of me). When I was around 6or 7, I heard them practicing in the drummer's mom's garage which was across the street from the baseball diamond my cousin was playing at.
Awesome
"Sweet" Connie Hamzy (Parente) --- a true American legend.
Some kind of wonderful. Good song
American Band is the name of Mark's (lead guitar) new group and they are on their farewell tour now I do believe.
Awesome
Rather ironic he chose that as a band name because the song was actually written (and sung) by the drummer Don Brewer and the two of them have been at odds with each other for many years now.
Awesome reaction ladies 👍🏼
Sticking to the America theme
The band NIGHT RANGER
The song"YOU CAN STILL ROCK IN AMERICA"
Keep up the good work 🎯💯✌🏻
"Live" or. OFFICIAL VIDEO
Great song... and another awesome reaction!! Keep up the good work 😊
Thank you!! 😁
Still gives me the chills when i listen to this!
You should do their songs "Rock and Roll Soul" and "FootStompin' Music"
American band and the Locomotion were #1 hits for Grand Funk !
Next watch my favorite " Inside looking out " , live in 69' on PBS.
Thanks, Chad! Saved me requesting it! 🙂 Enjoyed the reaction, ladies.
Awesome! Thank you!
Oh man this was so much my jam back in the day! Love some grand funk railroad. Good to see you ladies getting into it too! Peace!
Grand Funk songs are bangers 💥💥. Rock on beautiful ladies ❤❤❤
Takes me back to high school in the seventies. The lead singer is the drummer Don Brewer. Rob Zombie does an awesome cover of this too!
Yep...I was born in 63'... you?
@michaelasay8587 58'
Thank you ladies. I am an old rocker and I love your channel. If you are looking for another Grand Funk Railroad song, my fave has always been Some Kind of Wonderful. ( off topic but still music Warren Zevon Werewolves of London , could be a great reaction video.) Have a great day.
You all need to do a grand reaction to "Hocus Pocus" by the funky Dutch band "Focus"!
Great idea!
@@marlenepettiford3731so many focus tracks!
Specifically the live video version from the 70's TV show The Midnight Special. That performance has gained huge recognition for it's uniqueness and spontaneity.
You three girls will have bonkers fun reacting to that one. 🎉🎉🎉
They also sing " The locomotion " at this same concert and it's better than the studio version.
Great reaction ladies
Thank you!! 😁
This song came from these guys sitting down with Foghat (who are from Britain) and talking about the differences about being a band from Britain and a band from the US. They realized they were an American band. Now I segue into my request :) Foghat. Slow Ride, Fool for the City, and All I Want to do is Just Make Love to You.
Great band that lives on forever
Thank you Chad !! I saw them in concert at Seattle Center early 70's, wow such a wonderful band, fantastic performance
Glad you enjoyed it
Being a songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist myself, one of the instruments that I play is drums and I used to do that drumming and singing at the same time thing too. And in my opinion, Don Brewer for Grand Funk Railroad is the best combination of singer/drummer. Even though the main lead vocalist is Mark Farner the guitar player, the drummer Don Brewer is doing the lead vocals on this song. Don usually does the backing vocals and the harmonies. Even though I like Phil Collins and Don Henley from the band The Eagles who are both drummer lead vocalists, I think Don Brewer is the best drummer lead vocalist. The band originally came out in 1969 as a 3-man trio. Then they hired Craig Frost to join the band on keyboards in 1972 and then there were 4 band members. This album titled "We're an American Band" was the first one that Craig played on. You can see all 4 of them in this video. Great job ladies.
Thanks
Great reaction! Lots of fun.
Glad you enjoyed
One question...Does Donna like the band? Lol 😂
Great reaction. One of my favorite bands. Love your channel.

Really glad you all reacted to this!! I was fortunate to see them in 1974, 1975 (this tour), and their reunion tour in the 90s. Their fourth member by this point was Craig Frost on keyboards. They were truly amazing live!!!!! You all did a great reaction!!!!

This song was bcos, during the 70s & 80s, known as the British band invasion of the US.
From my hometown Michigan. Flint
Another Grand Funk song you should react to is Foot Stompin Music
I saw Mark Farner years ago doing his solo act. He was so good!! Performed many of GFRs hits!!
You ladies outta checkout Blackfoot a southern rock band from Jacksonville Florida and the song white man's land. In Donna's own words .. I think you'll like it it's a barnburner. Take care y'all

Y'all just like my wife. I have heard it somewhere. It never ends
Hi gals. Loved your reaction😍. Your accent makes me belive that you’re from the South. Do a reaction to Outlaws ” Green grass and high tides ” and I will buy you three coffees 😍❤️.
Never saw or heard of this version it was awesome!!!
Donna, do you remember April Wine. Roller is an excellent first listen!
Lulu your crackin me up!
LuLu, you are a cutie, but, just smile and go with it. If you keep forcing a scowl to look serious, your face will get stuck that way as you grow. Your mom has a lovely smile so I know you have it in you. Just let it shine 🥰
At this time in the band's history, it's a four man band. They added a keyboardist. You might have heard Poison's cover of We're An American Band. Bret Michaels is the lead singer in Poison.
this was one of my fav songs growing up i wore out my 45 record
Another 1970s song suggestion is Ted Nugent, Working Hard Playing Hard. Also another Ted Nugent song called The Great White Buffalo.
You need to listen to heartbreaker live 1972, fantastic
COWBELLS, COWBELLS we need more COWBELLS. BTO, Nazareth, Grand Funk, Blue Oyster Cult.😂
Next= Live = In 71 a show called In Concert" made a Special , " Grand Funk Railroad ;Live at Shea Stadium" ........ It took The Beatles 7 weeks , to sell out Shea Stadioum,, it took Grand Funk 2 1/2 days. Please watch the whole 1 hour show. It's the best. I saw it on a Friday night with 20 friends in a basement.. I was 16. I love yall's reactions. I'm from southern W.Va. God Bless... another song "I Can Feel Him In The Morning,'
Hello from Texas
Love Grandfunk!!! Nothing beats this original, but Poison did a decent cover of this. Also love their song Queen B from the Heavy Metal soundtrack. Great reaction ladies!!! 🍻🤟👏
Thanks
Unbelievable that people enjoy these folks more then one view
Here’s a short interview with Grand Funk Railroad’s first Publicist, Lynn Goldsmith. She explains pretty well what was going on with band and their song “We’re An American Band”, and she was present when Mark gave Don full publishing rights to the song after Don, out of the blue, asked if he could have them.

Please react to 'Heartbreaker'!
Another great classic rock song by a great classic rock band... Too bad they can't afford shirts though, but I don't think you Girl mind all that much!!! lol
Nope, don't mind at all. Lol
Mark Farner (Guitar), Don Brewer (Drums) and Mel Schacter Bass), the boys from Flint, Michigan, were one of the great American success stories in the 1970's. I remember going to the mall one day, about fifty years ago, and buying Grand Funk Railroad "We're An American Band", Deep Purple "Made In Japan" and Alice Cooper "Billion Dollar Babies" in one shot. The Grand Funk LP, which I still have along with the others, is clear Yellow Plastic. Very Cool.
I had the yellow album too and accidentally sat on it. I had Billion dollar babies too ,
And Black Sabbath Paranoid and the Who, Who's next. and 10 years after, A space in time.
My first 5 albums back in 75'
Led Zeppelin had them open for them at a show and refused to go on after watching them perform. Saying they couldn't match their performance.

Saw them at an outdoor concert in Virginia Beach in '69 before they hit it big.
Connie Hamzy from Little Rock Arkansas
Emma kok sings hallelujah
Mark Farner was a great frontman, but Don Brewer was my love in the band!
Grand funk railroad was from Detroit, the motor city. I believe there retired now. Take care
Mark farner the guitarist left the band later to go solo and became a Christian rocker🙏🤘
Play Grand Funk Railroad’s song “Heartbreaker” from this same concert. It’s awesome! Mark Farner is the guitarist and normally the lead singer. Mark wrote nearly all of there songs. He actually wrote 75% of “We’re An American Band”, and the drummer Don Brewer wrote the first 25%. Then as they were getting ready to make their third album, Don asked Mark if he could have full credit for the song. Don begged that he never got 100% credit for anything before. So out of the goodness of his heart, Mark gave Don full rights to the song. Their Publicist, Lynn Goldsmith, was present when he did it. GFR was THE American band that broke through all of the England bands at that time.
ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxXbmZTn96-KCzOkGzBNb_Gsb_0LpQ0oHX?si=HIMtfer9uO5J62a0
Yeah-- Farner gave him the credits, knowing it was potentially a huge hit song. Then years later, ol' Donnie had Mark legally written out of the band's contract. Mark had been out of the band ever since. Nice guy. T
@@TerryKrysinski Yes. Mark is a super nice guy. When Don literally stole the band out from under him, Don told Mark that he needed to sign some documents. Just normal stuff. Well, the documents gave Don sole rights to the entire Grand Funk organization, name and all! Mark thought that his lifelong friend was trustworthy. HE WASN’T!
Should check out Rob Zombie’s version!🎸🤘
Grand Funk Railroad | American Band !!! This one takes me back. I got to see them in concert. BTW anybody for >>> Meatloaf - Paradise by The Dashboard Light?
That is actually on the schedule should be out in a few days
@@KathyLuluandDonna glad to hear that .
Love Mark Don and Mel❤
Next GFR inside looking out
Try HAPPY Birthday by Uraih Heep 1972
