Thanks for the support! Overall it's a great little truck with good off-pavement capability. It'll do everything I normally run into on my outdoor treks without much issue.
Great video and review. I believe this is the last year of this model before they update it. I heard gm might get rid of the V6 and baby Duramax and use a turbo four cylinder to compete with other auto makers. I’m not sure if it’s the same 2.7 turbo they use on the sierras elevation and pro models, if so that would be something.
Thanks for watching and commenting. My understanding is that it will be that same 2.7 liter turbo. Hopefully they have it tuned a little better for the next generation. It has serious turbo lag at low rpm in its current form.
@@EngineAdventures yes it will fun to see what gmc puts out for the next generation. I also heard that GMC Canyon might get its version of the ZR2. I’m from Canada so the market is quite large for gmc vehicles.
I honestly don't notice much difference between the two right now, maybe the GMC and Chevy versions will be more different in the future. I have a ZR2 this week, it's a fun truck!
Like this one? I didn't have it on my normal test hill, but still had some fun with it. I'm currently driving a regular ZR2 and will be able to test it on my normal test hill. That video is probably a month out. ruclips.net/video/co1Y63Kp_c4/видео.html ruclips.net/video/HylHtjLaps8/видео.html
I have driven the diesel and towed with it, but it wasn't a media vehicle. I enjoyed the little diesel, good fuel mileage even when towing. I don't prefer diesel for off-road. Overlanding, diesel is a great choice, but not for off-roading.
I know that area, yeah its a rough test spot so dont feel bad it couldn't climb it first, it was drybpacked and that spot has been used MANY tumes by me alone to test flex, God only knkws how many others have done the same lol
I don't mind the Duratracs for the first half of their life. They are also really good for heavier trucks while towing on dirt and gravel. KO2s are good for these lighter weight vehicles, but don't last under heavy loads on the bigger trucks.
@@EngineAdventures Agree, I had a few sets of Duras on work trucks and constantly had poor performance with them off road or in any sort of non dry condition. KO2s would definitely be a better choice. Again awesome video review, I’m actually In a 18 Canyon SLE 4wd been a great truck looking to trade it for one of these or a full size.
I prefer half-tons over midsize because you get basically the same fuel mileage, depending on the trim they aren't that much more money, and they have much more room and towing capacity. Oddly enough the payload isn't that much better in many half tons though.
@@EngineAdventures Yup, except for pricing a canyon AT4 with the off road package is mid 40s where as a Sierra AT4 you are at or in the 60 range so really depends on trim but otherwise yes completely agree. That’s assuming you find anything new at MSRP these days lol
Pretty sure there’s still, or perhaps it is yet another, class action lawsuit against GM and that 8spd transmission. I’d have to spec the 2.8 diesel with 6spd just to avoid it.
I hadn't heard about that. Next year it should be completely redesigned with a turbo 4-cylinder as the only engine option. Not sure if the transmission will be changed as well.
Yes, if you are going off pavement airing down will help smooth the ride and increase traction, it also decreases ground clearance and approach, break over, and departure angles. This test is about how the vehicle's systems perform, not the tires.
@@goodtimesandadventures6690 thanks for watching and for the support! Airing down is excellent advice, and I don't really talk much about how to drive off-road, just show vehicle capabilities. I do have a couple of videos filmed on older vehicles which I may use to talk about such things. However, those are videos I'm only planning to post if I have a big drought in new vehicles to cover.
I was trying to test out the brake based limited slip system as much as possible without the G80 engaging. The G80 isn't bad if you know how to work it. I have a ZR2 this week and because it has e-lockers I was actually able to test the brake system. I definitely prefer the e-locker to the G80
Great stuff as usual. You’re criminally under subbed. Keep it up. They’ll come.
Much appreciated, and I do hope the subs and views show up!
Just got one and your review put me to rest thank you Big Guy u definitely know your stuff and you educated me for sure

It would be interesting to see your impressions of the AEV Bison.

@@EngineAdventures Thanks for the link. Was especially curious about the diesel model.

Do you have a Bronco lined up for testing? Would love to see the Badlands trim out on the hills
As of right now I don't. That's one I would love to test as well. I have driven a base model bronco, but only had about 30 minutes with it.

That's also why I use it as a test hill for all these media vehicles. It's fun taking crossovers up that hill, if I can even get them onto it.
Good looking truck, but would prefer the 3.0 diesel ...
The 3.0 diesel in this would be sweet! I've driven the 2.8 liter diesel and towed with it. It was ok on power, but really good on fuel.
Great review, very impressive truck for being basically a Z71 suspension. Those Duratrac tires need to go they are trash.

I'd go used diesel just for the fuel mileage and tow rating alone of I'm honest
Should air down to 18 psi

G80 is better than nothing but digging yourself a hole before it kicks in doesn’t seem like the best technique.
