My dad retired out of the Wentzville plant where these are made and always bought the GMC version of the trucks and so did his buddy that he used to ride to work with. Mid-size trucks are great for trails and have way better efficiency for people who don't need the full size bed all of the time. IF you are people/family hauling I understand the full size. I agree sometimes I am disappointed when I need to throw something in the bed occasionally that requires me to leave the tailgate open and use tie downs, but if I really need to haul that day, I will just hook up a small trailer and have hauling capacity for days. Can a full size get you 32+ mpg highway? nope.

I’m in my second Colorado, the first was an Ext Cab, so I was forced to trade it in for a CrewCab, when we both retired and needed only one vehicle. I’ve never had any issues, get very good mileage, have many miles of effortless towing, with first a 22’, 4,000 lbs travel trailer, then we traded for an all around larger trailer, that’s 26’ ling, by a full 96” wide and up to 6,000 lbs max as the heaviest we ever travel in the 4,800 lbs ready to go but empty trailer. When the time comes we need to replace it? The first place I’ll look is at the Chevy dealer. Both truck are the very same, sure the GMC is a “premium” brand😉, but there are more Chevy dealers around if needed on my travels. Looks are subjective, yes the front end looks a little more like a truck on the Canyon, but from all other angles, especially from the sides with the smooth bulging fenders on the Colorado, look so much better to me than the dimpled busy looking fenders on the Canyon! Just my $.02 worth. Oh one more issue, instead of a Z71 this time? I went with a WT, with every package available, the only items I don’t have are the “leather” seats, with heat, two tone interior and black grill. But I have everything else! For approx 6kLESS! At 33k ! Both are 4x4.

Why would the AT4 not come with a factory hitch? Seems strange to charge the same price when versatility isn’t the same...I do like the face lifts on both trucks but it’s hard to justify full-size truck pricing on mid-size trucks. Good video TFL, thank you.

I just got myself a 2022 Colorado Z71 with the 6-cyl and 8 speed trans brand new off the lot about a year ago. Funnily at the same time my father went and got a brand new Canyon, 2022 as well. Ours are the same level trim in their respective categories but he is always jealous of mine. Mostly from the fact that st the same price range mine is fully loaded and his has half the features mine has. Including heated seating and steering wheel, lane keep assist/warning, forward collision warning, etc. I gotta be honest I adore my Colorado, got it in the Tan option and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Only thing I regret is getting the RWD, they didnt have any 4x4 on the lot and I needed one quick so I didnt have the choice. But it's been surprisingly capable offroad, especially surprising me in all the loose dirt/sand we get here in Texas near El Paso.

However, I took mine off on my 18' Z71 and installed OEM skids and sliders. LOVE IT for the first 45k miles.
For the first 8k miles after removing the air dam I still averaged 23.7mpg (mostly low speed hwy commuting).
These days I drive almost entirely back roads and around town. I average around 21 to 23 mpg. However, I only use about one tank of fuel per month if I don't take trips! Design your life.

My 2019 F150 XLT also has an actual key to start it. I was disappointed about that at first, but I've recently learned how easy it is for (ALL) push button start vehicles to be stolen. The key fob broadcasts a continuous radio signal that always looks for the vehicle, it's not the vehicle that looks for the fob, it's the other way around. That signal can be picked up from 300 feet away, copied, then downloaded to a blank fob and used at any time to access and start the vehicle and drive away. Apparently organized crime is all over this. They cruise neighborhoods and particularly malls if they see a vehicle in demand they'll sit by it, wait for the owner to approach, record the signal that their fob is always broadcasting, copy it and download it to a blank. Then the bad guy simply follows the owner home, gets the address and simply waits for a good time to walk up and steal the car. They immediately drive it to a shipping container headed overseas never to be seen again. And all this time I thought (wrongly) that push button start was less likely to be stolen.

I did not see it mentioned in this video but, are the dash lights still the teal kind of color in the Chevrolet and red in the GMC? I know in my 13 Silverado they are teal and my 09 Sierra they are red and the 16 Acadia is red. Just curious if you happen to notice that or not during your time with these trucks? At night time I live in a very rural area so I turn the dash lights all the way down and the teal is much better in my opinion versus the red in the GMC. I might have to investigate this more because I think I'm going to get me one of those GMC Canyons because I also think that's the better looking truck. It will look the same as the one you have here but I'm getting the diesel.

Some people are writing that these trucks are at full-size prices, which is flat-out incorrect. The options between a Colorado & Silverado don’t overlap; their features are largely distinct - go check the Chevrolet web site & try again.
I was a long-time Ford F-150 owner, but the frequent road trips, towing, & kids sports tournaments are over, so a full-size makes zero sense. Most people do not need a large truck, unless it’s used for construction or hauling a trailer/boat. That’s why these mid-size trucks are a good fit & are priced better.
