I agree with all you have said Ms. Beth, I think you are spot on with the exception of one concept: There’s nothing quiet about a garment that cost $500- $2000 plus, I wish there was another word that would replace “quiet”... I know it’s a common term used to describe the state of luxury fashion these days- however someone carrying a $5000- $8000 bag is not “quiet”. They are still making a statement about wealth and class that gets noticed..albeit by those who know the quality of what they’re wearing. Just my thoughts ....you know what I mean?.

I agree and have dressed this way long term. Even the book Cheap Chic back in 1970 supported this and gave concept of cost per wear. It’s damn hard though to purchase quality now, have not seen quality boots with strong style since 1983. Most are vile style, bad leather.

This is what we want. Classic, quality and elegant pieces are gorgeous. My inspirations are Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. Walking through department stores used to be a pleasure and very relaxing. Now they are stuffed full of cheap looking clothes made with awful cheap fabrics, endless racks of clearance items and often clothing strewn over the floor. It’s actually really hard to find quality classic pieces and even harder to find a knowledgeable staff member to help you due to understaffing.

Born in Europe & spending my formative years there (1950s), my mother always took me to her couturier, and my father took me to his bespoke tailor. I imbibed a love of quality, craftsmanship, perfect fit & style from them since "pret-a-porter" didn't exist. Since my clothes were also custom-made, I have always been drawn to the timeless classic aesthetic; consequently, I keep clothes for many years even when my tailor can't make alterations for various reasons. Since red is the color for fall 2023, I will wear my 1990s long, red, cashmere Henri Bendel Italian-made blazer or my long, violet, cashmere HB Italian-made blazer over a large assortment of cashmere turtlenecks alternating with leather suits/jackets + 100% wool slacks/skirts. As a habit, I always read food & clothing labels, and look @ stitching. Synthetics pill & fall apart too fast, hence limiting my shopping options. That's why I take excellent care of my 40+ year-old clothes (designer/non-designer) because the quality, design, fabrics & craftsmanship -- even the quality/color of buttons, zippers, sequins, paillettes, beads, etc. is irreplaceable. My parents believed that quality in every aspect of life is a worthy goal & aspiration because less really is more.

This is so my vibe. I’ve never liked, bought, or worn logos. I love quality over quantity clothing made of high quality fabrics that look good on me that I love wearing over and over again. Higher quality usually assures better fits and longevity for your pieces. You do have to be savvy and careful, as some luxury brands still use inferior materials like polyester. I won’t pay luxury prices for cheap fabrics.

@ECRN: Do agree, particularly about being savvy and careful as IMO in many cases the fabrics aren't even what they use to be. i.e.: Even with my eyes closed and using only touch I can determine the difference between my cashmere sweaters, as those of twenty-five years ago are better quality in both yarn and weave. Also shall add you are hard pressed to even to find garments that have quality 'lining' let alone being lined at all.

I find the idea that Gwyneth Paltrow or Sofia Ritcie have anything to do with classic style quite insulting. My mother's generation dressed this way in 40/50s in Dublin. Wool, silk, cashmere, linen and cotton were the only fabrics available and expensive, so muted colors, classic styles and immaculate fit were a requirement.. These were the styles of not just the day, but those are the same styles touted now as quiet luxury, which really is a return to classy dressing and away from the head to toe logos, or fast fashion. Ralph Lauren didn't create his style, he modelled it on the "old money, quiet luxury" equestrian aesthetic, which originated in Britain and Europe a century ago, long before social media

Yes, I understand there are different price points for every budget. But spending $37 on an item only to throw it in the trash bin a month or two later isn't sustainable. And that comment was made on my Amazon video, speaking to Amazon fashion. It's far better to purchase fewer items made with quality fabrics that last for a long, long time. Yep, my true personality shines through - clothes are an investment like anything else. My dad taught me the importance of ROI long ago, and it's served me well.

Before Zara and H&M and the logo mania, we all dressed in quiet luxury. That was standard female business attire at corporate headquarters. The malls used to be filled with beautiful boutiques with wonderful designs and fabrics. I have had many of my suits tailored to me at those wonderful small owner owned stores. And I have actually sat on a beautiful French sofa at one great small store and let the saleswomen bring out clothing for me to choose from. All the personal shoppers that used to be around in the more upscale department stores, I really miss. These stores do not even exist anymore. My pieces were always timeless classic that I could mix and match and wear forever. I have bemoaned the quality of clothing for years now. I still seek out my classics but acquire trendy styles just to see if it suits me, which it never does, but at my age of 69, I do feel the need to shake it up a bit just to look current and modern and not stogy. Thank you, Beth.

It seems that today, only the very wealthy can wear clothing well made from natural fibers or those that want to wrack up debt to dress that way. All my 1990s 100% silk sweater sets can’t even be found unless I want to pay $1000 for something resembling them. I’m anxious to see how this plays out. Some of the same brands that promoted flashy, logo heavy “luxury” are now on the quiet luxury bandwagon. It may be more sustainable for consumers, but will it be sustainable for the brands that depend on constant consumption of fashion to bolster their profits.
It’s ironic that what was born out of necessity in many ways; having less disposable income to spend on clothing in part led to women opting for a limited wardrobe of quality garments that were well made and of a classic style that was always in “fashion” is now a “trend.

The quiet part I like. The luxury well-I’m not sure, as it can come off as an elitist term, but if this trend encourages people to be more thoughtful with their clothing than great. Growing up, the women I admired, as far as dressing were my mom and grandmother, neither had large clothing budgets and bought clothes thoughtfully. In the ‘60’s through the ‘90’s trends were incorporated sparingly. Most of what you had or bought were classics/basics that lasted for many years. Trends were just trickled in here or there. Well made made basics were offered at affordable prices and trends were what you saw on the runways. Now, basics that aren’t trend focused such as: boxy, cropped, oversized, dropped shoulders, etc. are hard to come by. They can be found, but at extremely high price points. Trends on the other hand can now be found at cheaper price points. A complete reversal of how clothing once was.

I live in an area where if I comb my hair and wear nice jeans out and about I am the oddity. So sad. I found a beautiful teal green cashmere sweater at a thrift store for our winter UK trip. I do try. I appreciate this video very much!

These options are lovely, but so not my life! How can I build quiet luxury into my very relaxed sportswear driven lifestyle. I think I can incorporate into outerwear with nice coats and scarves, but need suggestions for everyday wear for staying home of grocery shopping. Thanks, love your channel.

I have actually removed logos from clothing. I find them an eyesore. They detract from the aesthetics of the fabric. Removal cannot always be done successfully, but sometimes the thread holes are minute, not noticeable in a patterned fabric. A piece of jewelry pinned in place of the logo is a better distraction.

I hope you don't don't find this insulting, but that yellow blazer does not enhance your beautiful golden complexion. I think that a heather gray would afford a nice contrast and much better suit you as well as enhance your lovely gray hair...Just a thought; I hope I don't offend you.

No offense taken, but we really have to step away from this color looks good this one not. It limits your wardrobe.

Personally, I will be excited to see more classic, quality, and luxurious garments in stores! For the past few years I have wasted many trips to some of my former favorite shopping venues, and I have walked out empty handed! The fast fashion clothing is just not appealing!

I love this concept of dressing. I can’t call it a trend. Once I was going on a cruise. A woman was standing off to the side with her Coach luggage, Coach purse and shoes. She was even wearing a Coach headband. She topped it all off with her head held high and a definite snooty look. I don’t think anyone was impressed with her look or attitude. It just made me sad!

"Pony hair mules!" No thank-you....do they kill a pony for a shoe? At least a cow is used for food, gelatin. Americans don't eat their dogs, or their ponies!

@BethDjalali Is Pony Hair Made From Ponies?
If the product you buy is described as being made from Pony Hair it will definitely not have been made using the hide of a pony. Pony Hair is a term exclusively used to describe a leather product made from cow or goat hide, which has been shaved to resemble horse hair.

I’m sorry- quiet luxury is just the latest trend - all fashion is money money money- designer or fast fashion.. it’s all the same- $$$$$ - nothing transcends- not a shoe - a bag - or a lapel-

I was taught all of this by my fashionable mother and aunt. I still wear their woolen skirts and woolen jackets from the 1940s and 50s. I hate the trash we see today. But there's one thing I won't wear, ever. The dreaded "high water pants." Those aren't classics. Is there anything more foolish looking than an elegant woman with her ankles showing? Why not just wear toreador pants in blazing red, and get it over with?
