funny that you said “if you’re watching this, you’re a vinyl collector”. i’m not a collector lmao, i just like hearing you talk about awesome music
I'm not a vinyl collector either but I'm here because every time Mike talks music we all have to take a comfortable position and take it all in ! God bless .
Same
Yeah, me too!
I am a collector and it's a disease.
@@rubicon-oh9km you do you pal , I think it's a good thing that you have such a passion !! !
Symphony X are so underrated one of my all time favourite bands 🇬🇧🤘
IMO they are even too much overrated and famous, guitarist and all the other members, except partly the singer.
@@alessio4832dude take your negativity somewhere else 😐
You’re a musical Wikipedia, man so much knowledge and deep insight of any album you present, amazing
So you guys had a 90-minute album that seemed "too much". Then, you put together a 60-minute version "to simplify the way". And now we have a 150-minute version which is much more overwhelming than the original. We love you. :D
Symphony X is amazing! Whats you're saying is very true about them! You have amazing collection!
Mr. Portnoy, you have no idea how much this made my day! As a huge fan of vinyl I always enjoy seeing people's collections. Thank you, stay safe, and have a blessed day.
Mike you are a truly inspiration. I folllow your work since 1994. (First time the gig live in tokyo 1993 vhs). Its 2021 and i am still impressed with your knowledge that is almost scary. Stay safe and thank you so much for your legacy.
Iconoclast & Underworld are the last 2 of Symphony X. Amazing band - as good as DT!!!
I love this series, I could sit around and listen to Mike talk about music ALL DAY!
God bless Mike, thank you for everything you do for your fans, friends
Saw dream theater in Shepherd’s Bush empire in London and it was my first time I’d ever heard of spocks beard, and so began my love affair with everything neal morse! So thank you for bringing them along Mike! My musical landscape has been massively enriched because of it! 😊
This is an insane library. Very cool episodes, needed to catch up on any misses. Excellent commentary & fantastic stories, thank u for this.
I love Mike's love and heart for music. I ove the review of Spock's beard.
Wonderful Mike, thanks for all the magical music and your entertaining reviews! You have a wonderful humility and generosity. Best from Australia!
Glad to have you back, looking forward to ep 8
It's so amazing to see so much Spock's Beard vinyl.
Its incredible the things I learn on this videos. Thank you Mike!!
I've clicked LIKE before I even pressed PLAY. Love this series!
Actually Symphony X had just released Paradise Lost in 2007 when they opened for DT(not Odyssey). The Odyssey came way earlier(2003 or something). I remember this because i was at front row on that gig in Helsinki 2007. That was my first DT show and a night to remember :) All the best Mike and hope to see you play in Finland in future again. :)
Yep, you are correct! Realized this after i shot it...I don’t research or think of anything to say ahead of time...just do these off the cuff...so sometimes I miss a detail or two 😎
@@MikePortnoyDT1 That’s totally understandable😊
But y'all forgetting that in 2005 symphony x did gigantour with dt and megadeth when odyssey was their newest. So you would have first heard them pre paradise.
Love ya Mike! Always enjoy hearing your pics
Thanks Mike, really enjoyed that and congratulations on both the new Transatlantic album and LTE3! What a year it is going to be.
Thanks for clearing up the new Transatlantic album(s). I'll personally see to it that everyone in my street listens to the whatever one I choose. Thanks for all the music that you've made and hope to see one of your gigs when this pandemic is over. 🤘
awesome series Mike
Both new albums are on order from Amazon, can't wait, thanks guys. Love the enthusiasm.
Great as always, Mike! Can't wait for the final instalment!
Picking up some Sons of Apollo soon. You're the best, Mike. Thank you so much for putting out these awesome videos. \m/

Great video, Mike. And, thanks for clarifying on the two versions for the upcoming Transatlantic material. Getting the Blu-Ray myself!
thank you mike for this series.sound of contact briliant album
Hi Mike. Love these videos. You and I share the same taste in music and so I’ve listened to albums you’ve recommended that I hadn’t heard. Some of your Flying Colors tracks are just perfection and are on my play list most days. Thanks and keep safe!
Love these videos, you got me into Opeth and Porcupine Tree through these vids!
I've really enjoyed this series but was worried I could not find 7 or 8!!
Phew,panic over here it is.
Thankyou Sir.
I saw DT with Symphony X on that tour. It blew my mind. How can a live band sound that good? Just insane. Great, great show.
My last concert before the Covid lockdown was Sons Of Apollo at Penn's Peak. Great show!!
Sound of Contact is awesome. . Thanks for recommeding me (Us). Thanks. I hope to and Look forward to seeing You with Sons of Apollo in Prague. BTW Thanks for All Mike
Thanks Mike, looks like i have some on line shopping to do! Great stuff!
Mike
I need to say a very heart felt thank you. You probably don't remember me. I was around in the beginning of Dream Theater through Mike, AKA Dr. Metal from WHJY in Rhode Island. Mike was a good friend and a roommate at one time. He passed in the Station Nightclub fire. I first saw you at Club BabyHead. You were amazing! As a drummer myself I knew then how amazing you were and are. Losing Mike was a tough hit and they only got worse for me from there. Many overdoses, natural deaths and many suicides. The worst being my brother and recently my father. I lost my fiance to cancer and Covid. Lost 4 kids in 3 pregnancies with Carla. A amazingly beautiful redhead.
My thanks to you are do to that night at BabyHead. Your playing has always affected me in a positive way. In other words you've helped to keep me sane and above ground. The work you did with Avenged 7 Fold cemented your place in my life for filling in for The Rev. I'd like to say I got through this without tears but it would be a lie.
Thank you Mike, Mr. Portnoy for being the best all round drummer on the planet and for being exactly who you are. I remember when you brought your son I believe on stage to show him off. The smile on your face is forever imprinted in my memory. I believe that was at the Livingroom in Providence. I was always the guy in the very front or on the very side to watch you play. I also helped with security everywhere but I was undercover. 😂 It was payment to get into shows free for the Dr.
Thanks Mike, I owe you for the happiness you have given me.
Joel
Thanks for doing this Mike. I have become a huge Marillion and Beardfish fan from this. Rock on man.
Wow! After all these years I had no idea that Beware of Darkness was a cover. Thanks, Mike!
Awesome!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
So much cool new music to listen to!
Having in mind the new Transatlantic and LTE albums, you are more than excused for the delay, sir! Thank you!
Mike, I love you man! You are great! Looking forward to dive in Transatlantic. Best wishes For you and your family.
Really cool to hear more about the new Transatlantic album, very excited for it!
You are my hero, Mike! Keep rocking !
So happy to get your thoughts on Sleep. The Sciences is my favorite album of the past decade.
There's just something so wholesome and grounding about MP just talking about music to us. Makes me feel like everything's good.
Miss the MP forum!
You are an inspiration, Mike.
Funny story about Spock's Beard's "Snow" album. I read, I believe it was on the MP-forums, your praises for that album and without even hearing it, I ordered the CD and I was not disappointed. Even to this day one of my favourite albums. So thank you for that Mike.
Hey Mike I am a drummer and I wanted to thank you for being a great influence on me and my love of drumming. I view you as my drum hero. Peace ☮️
Totally agreee about SYMPHONY X, love that band. I've said the same thousands of times but have no voice in social media. Glad to hear Mike Portnoy highlighting them, they deserve to be in the greater lists of the best progressive metal ever.
#symphonyx you have lots of fans in Ecuador!!
Great to see the Sound of Contact in the mix, among the classics :)
There will only be one Mike Portnoy!
I’ll tell you what Mike, Psychotic Symphony is one of the top albums I’ve heard in the last decade. I was obsessed with it and listened to it every day. It seriously blew me away, still does! It’s a go to for me when I’m looking for something great to listen to, it never steers me wrong.
Another album that is on that list is Empath.

Hi Mike 👋, greetings from Mexico 🇲🇽❤️❤️❤️
Mike, what are the odds that by the time you finish this series, you'll have accumulated another 100 or so albums to alphabetize and share with us??? Love the series. As an audiophile I am digging your whole set up. Thanks for sharing your music !!!
Excellent, Mike! Very enjoyable. :)
Thx Mike! Love it and learned a lot indeed
I love You, Mike!
Best wishes to You and to Your FAMILY!!!
You are ONE OF A KIND Mike !!!
Your career is AWESOME, your performance, the sleight of hand I would say on the drums is OUT OF THIS WORLD !
Your modesty and friendliness honors you !
You know...they say that Michelangelo left nothing to sculpture for his followers....
He was PERFECT they say...
You are as guilty as him as far as I'm concerned ....
Nobody will EVER be better than you !
The world is a better place you kicking those drums !
Dream Theater and LTE its ONE BIG MASTERPIECE of yours !
Very nice !.
Hi Mike, from France... thank you
Both new Transatlantic albums ordered. Looking forward to listening to them.
Awwww SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU AGAIN
Amazing, Mike! TA is my favorite band of all time besides Yes.
Great vid Mike! Loved all your picks!
Thanks🥰mike!
Ah yes, 100,000 Days and Laterus by Tool.
I cringed
@@therealradagast u forget a lot of album names especially we in prog who listen to thousands of albums by thousands of bands
26:48 intrically interwoven
That's just his way of saying screw you to the superior drummer. Can you blame him though? With an ego like that, I'm surprised fear inoculum didn't make him attempt suicide. I'm sure the fact that his peers have voted Danny Carey the greatest drummer in the world for the past decade stings a little as well.
@@darrenfreyauthor holy shit what a dumb take.
Was waiting for Tool! Awesome collection!
Transatlantic, Tool, Slayer...... definitely the true masters
I'm hoping episode 8 starts with Triumph :) I love discovering some bands / albums that I've never heard like Chris Squire and rediscovering Spocks Beard. Thanks Mikey
Can't wait for the (two) new Transatlantic !
Lindíssima coleção
Just finishing the video (new Transatlantic). I would just like to say More Never Is Enough! (pre-ordered the deluxe give-me-everything box and really looking forward to cracking it open)

Better late than never lol....thanks, MP!!!!
I agree entirely about Empath. Amazing album start to finish. 👊🏻
Welcome back my friend!!!
I saw you twice for SFAM and no Spock's Beard here in New Orleans! Still incredible shows...some of my favorite concerts I've seen.
Waiting for the last episode!
Mike, it’s The Gathering by Testament with Lombardo on drums. Great album.
Cant wait for the new transatlantic album to release!

YEEES FINALLY
Waiting for the final episode 😉
J'adore votre pyjama!!
A very very sexy beatles pajama!! . Thanks Mike!!
14:43 saw Spocks Beard open for Dream Theater in 1999 in San Diego. Mike got on the kit for a song during Spocks set in a mask and at the end he took the mask off and we all cheered.
Mike the lord
YESSS!!!!
Great vid! Might I suggest making an Instagram to post about some of your favorite older vinyls!
♥
MP, no idea if anyone has already said this, but no one has the middle years from Spock's Beard. They haven't been issued on vinyl. I'm really hoping that somebody fixes that before too much longer.
You're awesome
Snow Live is incredible for sure.
