But that first appearance was one of their all great episodes. He was so good, it possibly killed his career as a dramatic or romantic star. No-one would take him seriously anymore.

After binge watching snl for a week due to covid self isolation, I finally found a skit where the actors seem to actually rehearse and memorize their lines instead of glancing over to read off of cues over and over again, and i actually enjoy this one 😂
Nope, they're definitely reading off cards, it's just the performers are quite far apart and on the same plane, so it's much easier to conceal than in a scene with more performers / more complex blocking.
The posters on the wall behind the casting desk are from Broadway's CANDIDE, SHOWBOAT and WICKED. Three of my fave Broadway shows ever. This sketch is tremendous.
