    Remember to un-cap the brake fluid reservoir before pushing the pistons back into the caliper, and check for overflow! Brake fluid will dissolve paint!. Check all bolts for manufacturer's recommended torque. New rotor and brake pads will need a break-in period, usually a series of controlled hard brake applications to get them to perform correctly.

    On a ‘16 Crosstrek you need 8mm X 1.25 pitch bolts for pushing the rotors off the hubs.

      and it makes it so much easier too. I beat that rotor for 5 minutes, then spent the $1.28 at Lowes and had them off in 1 minute.

      100% agreed. Make sure to get the bolts-banging only got so far on my 2014-but the bolts made it painless and fast.

    Great video, I would have liked a little more explanation on the correct positions of the wear pin indicator and the return clip on the pads in reference to the caliper.

    Brake parts cleaner will react with rubber. I would avoid any of cleaner spray next to the rubber boots of the slide pins or the caliper boots.

    I love how the rotor shown that is being put in is pure silver, when the other shown on the table has the nice black coating

    Thanks for the video, it was very helpful One note to improve the video. The bolt used to push the rotor off is actually 8Mx1.25 not 8Mx1.0 thread pitch

    Just did this on both rear wheels. Was very helpful. Thank you.
    Question. After complete, all works great-except my ebrake appears to not be working (worked well prior to removing the rotor disks). I assume it has something to do with adjusting that spring spin wheel / sprocket? Before I closed it up I rotate the sprocket “above” the spring as you did in the video, and then pumped the ebrake. Something I missed?
    Overall-thanks again.

    fwiw, I just tried to get one of my front rotors off, which has been sitting and accumulating a bit of rust for about half a year (but in a dry climate so I thought it wasn't too bad). I'm not (or wasn't) planning to replace it so I didn't want to dent it with too hard of a blow from my mini sledge or regular hammer, but I did tap around it and also sprayed PB Blaster in the appropriate places. Well, while hand tightening the assisting bolts with a medium socket wrench as seen here 3:27, the rotor was still so stuck in place that the threads of the bolts warped and then the cast metal actually burst right at the outer lip. Luckily the bolts didn't snap off inside, but yeah - my lesson: I would say be advised to *definitely* use the dead blow 3:00 and really whack the rotor loose as much as possible before trying the 8x1.0 bolt assistance method. I probably could have let the PB Blaster settle a good bit longer, too.

    I wanted to ask, I had my crosstrek serviced at Mavis and noticed a rattle when the shop changed the two front brake calipers. I went back to them and they said there was nothing loose but I figured I would check to make sure they are not overlooking something. When I give the wheels a kick, I hear rattle as well. Whenever I go over a rough surface the rattle is present but when I press the brakes, it goes away. Not sure if the Pad Install, or Caliper install is the issue. Do you have thoughts on where to start?

  • @tommywallbanger

    What does the position of the indicators for the front brakes? I was doing a brake job and none of the pads that were previously installed had any indicators and when I put the pads on there was not enough room where I had them to pull the caliper down over top of the indicator. I obviously put it in the wrong spot or whoever made the pads didn't take that into consideration. I'm guessing I put them in the wrong spot. So Anna 2013 Crosstrek for the front brakes where do you put the indicators?

    Does those drilled rotor disc helps a lot for stopping power or it just helps for dissipating the heat? Just curious.

    • @bwkmcdonalds6919
      @bwkmcdonalds6919 4 года назад +1

      Drilled will help dissipate heat and the slots will aid in stopping. Increased wear on brake pads with slotted rotors but much better stopping power

      That pointy metal tab (spring) is there to push the pad away from the rotor when brake is not applied. Be sure to install the new pads with the tab at the lower position.

      +Sofian 1399 We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c

    why wouldn't you use new brake hardware, i.e. the stainless brake pad fitting kit?

    • @sandyshoremann7524
      @sandyshoremann7524 4 года назад +2

      They are high quality stainless steel, they just need a clean - just like the caliper bolts they trashed that just need a wire brush cleanup. Waste to replace pads at 5mm. Also the rotors should be good to 100K. re-purpose, re-use and recycle! In this case, reuse. Cheers! Sandy Shoremann.

    Anyone know where to find the 8x1.0mm bolts?

    • @lkjl813
      @lkjl813 Год назад

      on my 2015 crosstrek, the 8x1.0mm bolts actually stripped out in the old rotors. I believe the correct bolts are 8x1.25. In any case, home depot should have them...hidden in the drawers in the hardware aisle.
