To think that the dealerships trying to charge me $900 to do this easy shit…
Keep in mind that dealers are also buy Subaru OEM parts, which are a lot more than brake parts that you can find online for OEM quality parts. They also charge for rotors and pads, which the guy in this video is just pad slapping, which not only will almost no mechanics ever do but it's never recommended to do this. So for rotors, pads, and brake hardware, that's $648 MSRP from Subaru's part store.
@@bijdikh8516 no thats just it.... the number i gave was just for replacing brake pads ALONE.... if i was to have rotors added in, it wouldve been closer to $2000.
as for the pads... its kinda stupid. it really isnt something you need OEM quality on. pads are pads they all have one job to do and thats just to be applied to the rotor and stop your car. as long as they dont come apart and are designed to fit your car, any pads will work its not rocket science. just basic wear and tear items to be replaced. not something you should have to blow an entire months rent to have someone do for you. i ended up just buying the pads at an auto store for $90 and doing the damn things myself. 40,000 miles later and they're still doing just fine.
They only charge what they do because people are willing to pay it that’s just how the free market works. Don’t be bitter though the more they wanna charge the more you’re saving by doing it yourself.
@EllissDee4you4me that's kind of bullshit, most people don't have the technical knowledge or skills to shop around for car repairs, they just just have to do whatever the shop says. There's a lot of scamming in this industry unfortunately
@@Vanya2893 i ended up just buy the full set of brake pads and caliper spreader and spent the evening doing the job myself. cost me less than $60.
Great video! Good that you also clean and grease your brake parts. Video gets right to the point!
Glad it helped
So, you're just going to work on that car being suspended by 2 cent rubber o-rings in that hydraulic jack. Updated your life insurance! DON'T EVER DO THIS! Use solid jack stands.
That was very quick to the point, the details in some of the instal was not mentioned or I am just slow. All good overall great job! Thanks for not lingering on and on like
So many videos do..
0.37 secs in watching at work. Subaru brake job. Love it. That license plate lol hahaha
Quick question what brakes did u put on the back?
Thanks for the vid, wanted to double-check for anything extra before I dived into brakes on mine. 👍
Glad it helped
The Rear pad says 2015 forester. It still fit on crosstrek 2020?
These pads fit a wide variety of Subaru's from 2014 to 2023
Hey Thanks for the post! I noticed that you didn’t put the vehicle in service mode. Is that something I really should worry about? Thanks in advance
Should have greased the caliper slide pins at same time.
Aren’t you worried about the wear pattern of the old rotor?? I always turn em or replace them
Nice to know this isn't one of them high dollar Japanese cars that has you buying different tools for every component.
Although I never put nothing on the brake pads before I will now or I should say have one of my five boys use it.
as I supervise and & watch.
Although I will not use the piston tool you used I would rather use a pair of C-clamp vise grips turning it in a little each time you squeeze it shut or a small C clamp with the brake pad over the cylinder save me some money.
Now Three of the five hit me up at least every couple months the other two every now and then although they all pay me back or bring back what they barrow none of them want to piss the bank of Dad off besides I'm retired.
Do you need to undo the electric break latch before remove the brake pads.
No need to use a special tool on the rear for the parking brake?
Awesome video my man! Super comfy to watch and easy to understand! 😊
Great video thanks for the help!
For the rear (only?) pads ONE of the four pads is different. There’s a tang/hook or tab sticking out of the backing plate.
I didn’t install mine and then watched your video.
It’s in fast motion for the pads, but it looks like that weird pad goes on the inside of the pass side rear? I didn’t take off the pass side only the drivers side. I thought my set was a mistake. But I think your set has the same thing.
I really like the straight to the point way you did this video. Not a lot of 💩 to have to get through.
Im going to take off the rear pass side and see if that one pad has that strange hook on it.
You can almost catch a glimpse at 5:41 or :42.
Thanx for the video
Very Simple…….
Hello, Thank for video. It helped me. What direction of wear indicator? Mine is to down, But you istall indicator to the up. Do you have service manual for 2018+ crosstrek?
On the crosstrek, the wear indicator is supposed to be on the bottom.
Are the rear pads the same as the fronts?
Meh... no tool list
Thanks for the great video!
I really appreciate it.
Good job man.
What bran of lube did you use?
Excellent!
Why do you have to compress the caliper? Is it so the new pads will fit
Exactly
Do the pins stay compressed? And do I leave compressor tool engaged?@@PatOutdoors
Awesome video!
how many miles did you have before needing to do a brake job?
We drove to about 40K before needing to do the first brake job. I'm likely swapping out the rotors with another pad set around 70-80K.
Will this method work for the 2022 Crosstrek?
Yes, same exact process
Great video! What brand of rims do you have on and tier size?
Thanks! The wheels are by F44 Offroad (CM102) The tires I have on are Toyo 235/75R15, but they do rub when I'm braking while turning. So if your Crosstrek is NOT lifted, I wouldn't recommend going larger than 215/75R15 . But if you are lifted, then you could get away with 225/75R15.
Thanks for the info
Please tell me your license plate isn't MANGINA....
It’s not. It’s tang ina. Means Mother f#**er in Tagalog Lmao
I thought it meant tan vagina lol@@PatrickKasilag
Nice plates on the other car 😂😂💀
🤭 Not everybody knows about !
Helped a bunch.
What floor Jack are you using?
He has good life insurance! Always use solid "Jack Stands" not just the jack!
Have you been happy with the PowerStop pads? About to replace mine and looking at that brand.
Been pretty happy with this this past year. Haven't had any squeaking or premature wear
@@PatrickKasilag - Thanks for the quick reply. Our Crosstreks are twins, btw, except I've got the Falken WildPeaks. While I'm changing the pads I'm going to paint the calipers orange.
@@craigjones9016 I got an orange Crosstrek and was thinking about painting it orange as well. What did you plan to use to paint it?
@@paynespaulding3621 Mine is the dark grey with orange stitching on the interior. I'm going with VHT Grey primer, VHT Burnt Copper, and VHT clear coat. The burnt copper is a metallic which I think will go well with the metallic grey body. VHT has Chevy Engine Orange and Hemi Orange - one of those may be a good match for you.
❤️☝🏽
ceramic will eat your rotor... go organic, save you $$$$...
If your rotors are designed to be used with ceramic brake pads it isn't really an issue
Missed lubing slide pins.😊
He talked about it
No bleeding the brakes??
Actually gotta do this pretty soon
Mine has electric rear parking brake. Do I need to disable it somehow?
