I always loved the name of the brand itself.. "blackberry" makes me mad that it's now just a joke in the eyes of others, I'd love a brand new super advanced one, and the ability to say "I have a blackberry" again, as a phone that's better than what I currently got, which isn't the case sadly.

BlackBerrys downfall was it’s hardcore fan base the “crackberry” users, who kept demanding that blackberry sticks to its outdated hardware and software design and the executives stupid enough to listen to them and mock iPhones for being toys.
I used to love my blackberry but as soon as the first iPhone was launched and got my hands on one it was clear as day that BB would be in the mud if they didn’t change, which they didn’t until it was way too late-2013.

Plus, the data plan was way less for the Blackberry for whatever reason. To this day, I miss the physical keyboard because I fat-finger all the time on my Androids.

I had the chance to work for this company when it was known internally as Research In Motion. Or RIM.
I did support for the company. And joined when it hit its peak and was let go about a few years later the entire office where I was, was laid off. That’s over 700 of office just walked out, all hardware collected offices dismantled and the space sold off as they were in survival mode.
This was way back when the dual CEO’s didn’t see the iPhone as a threat. Everyone was laughing at the phone till they weren’t laughing any more.
The interesting part of all this is that blackberry somehow pulled through. As a reinvented company and nothing like it used to be. But a much MUCH smaller company than it used to be. It’s just that now they are a software only company working with businesses and out of the general public.
Good times! At least I get to say i once worked for the company that pioneered smart phones before they were mainstream. And also got to see how the empire was torn down but many many bad decisions.
    👍

Blackberry could have done well in the modern world today. But chose to fiddle their thumbs for years as Apple and android continued to eat up market share. They waited until 2013 to make a serious change with their blackberry 10 OS. That was 6 years after the first iPhone and 5 after the first android. By then it was too late and so much market share was taken up by the big 2. If they took apple and google more seriously years earlier they’d probably had still been around, thriving, and still had a good chunk of the market share today.

Instead of buying BB phones people should look into BB stocks that are at 20 year lows and many hedge funds seem to be getting in. I feel there is an accumulation going on because their price to sales ratio is just at 2.07 now. Which is extremely cheap. The reason the stocks dipped so low is because BB decided to raise 194million in cash to pay for maturing notes with fresh notes at 3% interest. BB seems to be big into Software Defined Vehicles with their Blackberry IVY, Blackberry Sound and QNX software and Hypervisor. AWS seems to be a major partner on the QNX. At 1.67billion market cap it is only a matter of time before someone buys them outright.

So If you have a car made in the last decade, you’re (literally) daily driving a BlackBerry.

They could have saved it if they didn't overprice the key2 with the BB Tax.
The phone was more expensive than other, better performing options and had nothing going for it other than the keyboard.
So you could get the more expensive one with your beloved keyboard but suffer with performance or buy a better phone and get used to the touch inputs.

I disagree that the google voice assistant: the blackberry voice assistant had everything I want in a voice assistant.

I think they got distracted by Apple's success and gave up too soon instead of growing, evolving and pushing themselves to do better. Maybe now, we'd have a third smartphone OS competing with Android and iOs. Or maybe the BM messenger would have been our WhatsApp now. I do hope they make a come back somehow.

Bring back physical keyboard to smartphone! Or at least they should start making them like the old Sony Ericcson P series where you can have it as accessory?

Was the best phone I ever had except the battery was sooo weak and the usb charging slot stopped working and I had to jiggle the wire to get a charge...I wasn't a fan using the keyboard as a mouse either...blackberry needed to hire a fan instead of yes men to do feed back keyboard finger print was cool but I never used it it ended up stop working and I had to double press the spacebar to make a space

    What's Sam's connection with Romania?
Also, I am still using BlackBerry KeyOne, black edition since 2018. Apart from the security, I have no issues. And with some apps, there's screen ratio issue, but it's okay.
