    Thank you so much for these reviews! They are so incredibly helpful. I would love to see a review of Fancy Feast or other budget cat foods, especially in comparison to premium foods like Pro Plan. 😊

      @AnimalDocRea oh I would like to watch a video with your opinion on Fancy Feast. It's the only brand of canned food my cats will consume. I sneak in SD once a week or so , but anymore than that they refuse to eat it. They just want their Fancy Feast. My vet said to just keep giving it to them (along with SD dental kibble) because cats will starve themselves instead of eat what they don't want to. Still, I cringe feeding this to them. I had a cat die last year from chronic uti hx and I want to do everything I can to save these two.

    Thanks Dr Rea for another informative and very interesting analysis and all the time you put in to prepare these videos! With all of the pet food comparaisons you have done so far on your channel, I am just appalled to see how so few of those pet food manufacturers actually meet the nutrients requirements! I mean, we can basically count them on one hand!!! And most pet parents, and I am one of them, have all been hooked on their "wonderful" marketing strategies that make us believe that their food is so much better than the next one!!! I am so happy that I found your channel and finally got educated on what is important to look at in a pet food. Now, I am so relieved that I no longer have to search for the next best food as I am sticking to SD for as long as it will be suitable to my pets' needs. 😻🐶🐾

    Thank you for the Kirkland dog and cat reviews. I wouldn't use for my kitty, but thinking of switching 2 of the sheps to the mature dog food.

      The mature dog seemed like a pretty solid option, remember to transition over a few weeks if you do switch

    Hello thank you for this video! I actually feed both my cats this brand (the salmon and sweet potato). I was under the impression this kibble was higher in animal based protein and fats than a lot of store bought kibble. Maybe I missed that in the video but did you break down protein sources (animal vs plant)? If not where does this brand land?
    Oh and just a heads up Kirkland does sell both pate and chunks in gravy wet food. I feed my cats that as well. Could you do a video for that?
    There is also this new cat food subscription called Cat Person could you do a video on their kibble and wet food? It’s a little pricy but apparently it made with all real meats and manufactured in the same factories as human grade foods ( so higher standards for production)

    Absolutely love your channel!! I’ve learned so much. I’m one of those who stresses over pet food (first time puppy mama to a little English Bulldog). I’m now using your recommendations in finding the best kibble for my pup. I do have a question, do you know if chicken cartilage can cause chicken allergies in pups? I’m trying to stay away from chicken but there is a Farmina Lamb puppy recipe I would like to try but again, it has chicken fat & cartilage in it.
    Thanks for educating us all on this topic! ❤❤❤❤means the world!!

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  3 месяца назад +1

      No real reason to avoid chicken unless you actually have an allergy, no data exists to suggest a genetic predisposition to forming a certain allergy. In fact beef I believe statistically is the most common allergen in dogs and then it’s still like less than 5% of the total dog population. I know that low number seems striking, that’s because pet food marketers want people to think it’s more to sell more expensive limited ingredient diets. But if you still want to avoid chicken, yes cartilage and fat would aggravate a true allergy. Also with food allergies, the only true way to avoid would be a prescription diet that is gauranteed to be free if cross contamination so…long answer to a short question…not sure if that helps or confused you more. Basically unless diagnosed with a food allergy, don’t worry about it.

      Not yet, but it would be more of how they work vs a recommendation because prescription diets need to be recommended by your personal veterinarian.

      @AnimalDocRea i suppose the fear-mongering over prescription petfoods on youtube has gotten to me. I just want to make sure my cat is eating the absolute best, brand and all and won't have this happen again.

    JUST finished transition of cats from IAMS Indoor Cat "Weight-Hairball Care" TO Kirkland Maintenance Cat after reading how much better their ingredients were than standard grocery store brands. Today I noticed a warning at my vet office that several canine patients on Kirkland diets had experienced organ failure. Now I'm wondering (given your mineral analysis) if the high levels of calcium and phosphorous could be the cause (???)🤔

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  3 месяца назад +1

      I’ve seen lots of foods with worse. It’s probably just coincidence or even exacerbated an existing issue if the people never did routine lab work. I’ve not had any Kirkland food related illness or acute deaths. I always want more details when I hear these things.

    My family just got a cat and I have been researching cat food like crazy. Im really struggling to find almost any wet or dry foods that hit all the marks, especially when looking at the Calcium and Phosphorus. Have you in your research found any wet cat food that actually hits on everything?

      Thanks, do you find that there just aren't that many options out there? I was looking at Iams proactive health dry/pate and the dry actual was within all the ranges, but for the Pate it was 2.04%Calcium,1.42%Phosphorus, and 0.71%Sodium. So high on all of those which was somewhat disappointing as the dry had been within the right ranges.

    • @AnimalDocRea

      Maybe look at some of these, I am familiar with the line and most fall within the suggested ranges. www.hillspet.com/cat-food/sd-feline-adult-hairball-control-savory-chicken-entree-canned. Otherwise off the top of my head I cannot say. If you have any others you would like me to look into I would be happy to do so.

    I gave the maintenance bag to my cay for the first time today and visibly noticed what I think is salt on/in the kibbles. Based ont the ingredient list, salt seems pretty high also.. i'm worried for kidney problem. Why do companies hide the % of salt when it is so important?

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  3 месяца назад +1

      It’s not required to be on the package so companies don’t usually list it. You can email them or call and they were very responsive.

    • @MsGhoulz
      @MsGhoulz 2 месяца назад

      Why would one of their products have the salt hidden on the ingredients and another product from them has salt listed...? Maintenance has none listed, but the salmon one does.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  2 месяца назад

      “Salt” on the ingredient list means nothing, ingredients are listed by weight and starts very little. Look for sodium and chloride in the dry matter analysis. You might need request that from the company

      I try not to really give my opinion, but share the facts with you. The SACN text linked in the description box goes into detail the data we have on that in more detail but basically being obligate carnivores cats do not require carbs, but there is no documented upper limit that is deletarious
