In all fairness to Nathan... to keep up with the high demands of the worlds premier fusion band and its members...you have push yourself in that arena everyday...all day..all night all the time. Nathan has been gigging with Clapton, Toto and all the other bands and studio sessions he has done for decades..making millions and millions. If Clapton were there and he sat in with Chick to play Got a Match he could not begin to approach on guitar what Gambale would be doing. different levels,, different skill sets

Bassist Nathan East has played on literally hundreds of albums by musicians of every stripe over the course of an extremely successful career that dates back to his teenage years, when he played as part of Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra.

This fusion stuff is out of Nate's style. But that is ok, you can't be great in every style of music. John Patutucci is a lot better at this style. Nate wisely decided to stick with what he knows

He might be a jack of all trades, but he certainly isn't a master of all trades..Of all the bassists Chick has played with in this electric setting Nathan is the worst fit in my opinion. He's a legend, but he should stick to his r&b/soul/funk/pop sessions where he really IS a master. This solo has entertainment value I guess, but quite frankly it left me cold. Just my honest opinion..

You are very right, his roots are in pop and R&B and not in jazz. And this bass solo is clearly not a bass solo like John Pattituci would play it!

@@erikpors9775 I agree with you sir. Patitucci is on a completely different level as a jazz soloist.

I have to agree. He’s no Tom Kennedy. Feels like he was right on the razors edge of his ability there.

Obviously he’s not a shredder bassist with jazz sax chops. It would be weird to expect him to suddenly bring that just because it’s Chick Corea. His musicianship and creativity is on par with those guys even if his fast chops aren’t. He had some entertaining and creative solutions to the chop fest.
