Hiya. I started drumming a bit less than a year ago. Sometimes I feel like it takes so much to get to that next level n not sure I'm practicing what I should. The one thing I know is that my life is so much better for drumming. Pretty much the best thing I've done in my life. All the best with your journey n thanks for sharing.
Let me just say - GREAT JOB! Your progression in a year is awesome, I noticed by the 4th-5th month all the apprehension was gone and you looked and sounded very relaxed & comfortable. Yes we all have our highs and lows, but how you deal with it & not getting discouraged is key, which you seem to have a very good handle on. I've been playing for 45 years and you never stop learning/exploring new things - just a rewarding endless journey, if that makes sense. A big thing that helped me with ghost notes was learning different stickings (the Gary Chaffee Sticking Patterns book to be exact) Practicing those on the pad and creating your own patterns really helped to build the dexterity in my left hand. Can't wait to see your next progression update, you'll be crushing it, no doubt!
Thanks for your kind words and for the tip. I dont know Gary Chaffee but it sounds interesting. I will check it out. Ghostnotes are definitively something what I would like to include more in my drumming. At the moment I also practice some foot technique and double bass drum. And I started to practice with Benny Grebs Book „Language of drumming“, since there are tons of stickings etc. I need some time and more practice, and then for sure, I will do the next progress video :-)
This is amazing! I also started playing drums last year, in August (at age 45) and also on pillows to begin :) I haven't posted any videos yet but love the idea of a 1-year retrospective to see how far you've come. You sound SUPER good for only 1 year in! Keep it up!
Very nice progress, amazing. I play the drums for 8 months and I have a long way to go to reach your progress. Amazing job. Many kisses and hugs from spain precious 😘😘😘

Couple of tips for ya. Idc if you actually follow them do whatever. - sometimes just sit down at your kit and have fun. -set up your kit as ergonomically as you can (don’t be scared to try new setups even if you’ve not seen them before). -practice playing songs by ear (don’t stop if you mess something up just keep going and try to hide it)
Highly recommend you find an african dun dun circle. It really opens up your playing, and is designed to take somebody from beginner to expert very beautifully - so you *enjoy* the journey to musicianship.

Thank you! So jealous That you can practice every day. I am just 2 times per week on the drumset. :-) Do you have a teacher? But I think it will always be a neverending journey and lifelong learning 🥁🙂👍
@@verodrums8878 I have had many teachers! I was self-taught for several years, then had private lessons before going to a music college. I have fulfilled my dream of becoming a professional drummer. I'm not hugely successful, but very happy to keep learning and making a little bit of progress here and there! I do a lot of teaching drums at a studio these days to which is lots of fun 😊
Awesome. I'm 7 months in. I haven't even tried playing any rudiments yet tho. I didn't get much practice time these last few months as I've been very busy with work. Right now most of my practice is dedicated towards ghost notes and foot speed. Sometimes as I am playing I think to myself I'm not doing very well and I should be way better than this but then I remember just 6 months ago. I could barely even play a simple drum beat. I'm 43 now and wish I would have started way earlier in life.
Keep going.. The key is not giving up.. If there is one thing I could advice you to do is to practice with a metronome (listen to the metronome for a minute or 2 before picking up the sticks to play while listening try to relax your muscles) this really helps.. (I've been teaching drums for the past 20 years)
Thank you so much! I try to practice with the Metronome regularly, but I sometimes forget the click and then I just hear the Music. Or I tend to play offbeat. :-/ Relaxing the muscles is a good advice. I will keep this in my mind. Thanks a lot!! 🥁🎶✌️

Now, I'm learning the different subdivisions and applying it around the kit. YT can be so overwhelming with all the fills, grooves and patterns available. I just wanted to play pop songs by using ear or be at least creative enough to create drum parts. Tbh, I've hit a plateau. I don't know what to do next. Hahaha. I am really happy to see you inspired. Plus, your kit sounds AMAZING! Good choice with Istabul Agop hats. I have an Istanbul Mehmet 12" all I can say is its "meh" oh well lesson learned for me.
@@Jamva1020 besides drumeo I can highly recommend stephen taylor and stephen clark for technical stuff and Rob Brown and Dave Major for a lot inspirational stuff. I like the way they are explaining things or like they have a cool and neutral perspective about some topics. Because it can be really overwhelming and frustrating. I have regularly plateaus, for example right now, I havent been playing my drums since a week or so. Since 2,3 weeks I dont do a lot, except my pad practice routine. I know what to do but I have no motivation. But I know that I will start my routine too. I can really highly recommend Dave Major for this topic. He is also on Instagram and he has a free course about practice routine, how to practice, what and how often etc… you could check his website for free courses. It helped me to structure my stuff and to create a practice schedule. Keep it up, Joyce 🥁🎶👍
Beatdown ftw! I used his 20min video to strengthen my double stroke. For the others, I'll make sure to check them out. Thanks for the recommendations! So happy to see this video! I am about to start my journey. Unlike you I am not coming to this cold, as I had played drums and melodic percussion in a past life, but never the kit. I know just enough about what to do and what it takes to play well to know just exactly how much I SUCK and how hopelessly far I have to go. Seeing you improving and chasing your dream gives me great hope for myself and ratifies my choice to drop some hard-earned cash on my electronic kit. I know; mesh heads and rubber cymbals - not the same! But I have a wife I would drive crazy with real drums, and the only dream I cherish more than becoming a decent drummer is to stay married to this wonderful woman until one of us kicks the bucket! Anyhow, thanks for posting this and stay at it!

Hi, i like the App Bandcamp. There are lot of drumless loops by Tim Baltes or Martina Barakoska. Of course there are plenty of other Creative people who create drumless loops or tracks. But unfortunately I havent check them out yet. On RUclips I like the drumless tracks by „drumless backing tracks“ (you can find them on Instagram as well). If you have Instagram, you can search for drumless loops or tracks. There are plenty of sites and creators. And one easy and very cool trick is, you buy a song (for example on iTunes), then you go to the App „Moises“, open the song there, reduce or cancel the drums (or singer or any other instruments) and then there you go! :-) Have fun listening to them!

Oh hey you! I just saw your comment right now. I hope you are still on your drums journey and have a lot of fun. 🥁👍 thanks for your comment
Brava, avanti così.
Mille Grazie 🙂
Very cool! You sound great!
Thank you 🥁🎶
This is amazing! I also started playing drums last year, in August (at age 45) and also on pillows to begin :) I haven't posted any videos yet but love the idea of a 1-year retrospective to see how far you've come. You sound SUPER good for only 1 year in! Keep it up!
Thank you! :-) And yes, do it! I love these before and afters 🥳👍
Very nice progress, amazing. I play the drums for 8 months and I have a long way to go to reach your progress. Amazing job. Many kisses and hugs from spain precious 😘😘😘

Just awesome! I've been playing since I was 11 (I'm now 37) but sometimes I forget just how difficult it is to get your head around stuff when you are first starting out! My partner has just started playing (she's 41) so it's like I'm reliving the frustration with her haha!
This is awesome!! :-) Support her! What a wonderful thing that she just started!! 👍👍
Awesome I subscribed good job my friend 👍👍👍👍
Great video. Impressive that you’ve taken the time to practice rudiments and some of those looks of frustration…I think we’ve all been there A LOT! Some days it just isn’t happening or you’ve hit a wall. Totally get it. I think your progress is amazing and love the fact that you put this out there. Great inspiration for others.
thank you. it´s interesting to see that a lot of my viewers are drummers who just started to play drums this or last year. And all of them, no matter if beginner, intermediate or advanced, have this feeling of struggle or frustration sometimes. :-) its really motivating and inspiring - also for me - to read different drum stories, drumming backgrounds etc. Thank you a lot!

Couple of tips for ya.
Idc if you actually follow them do whatever.
- sometimes just sit down at your kit and have fun.
-set up your kit as ergonomically as you can (don’t be scared to try new setups even if you’ve not seen them before).
-practice playing songs by ear (don’t stop if you mess something up just keep going and try to hide it)
Thank you for these tips, Ben. Creativity and Improvisation are indeed important skills. Have a nice weekend 🥁🎶
Highly recommend you find an african dun dun circle. It really opens up your playing, and is designed to take somebody from beginner to expert very beautifully - so you *enjoy* the journey to musicianship.
Thx, sounds interesting ;)
Wish you cover : *ART vs. SCIENCE - HOLLYWOOD*
interesting suggestion. not an easy song for a beginner but I will keep in mind ;-)
@@verodrums8878 haha yes it's playing on my mind like all day 😄

Çok güzel bir video. Ümit verici 🎈
Thank you 🎶🥁🎶
Excellent progress! I'm sure your musical journey will reward you for life. Keep having fun and feeling it. Great job.
Thanks a lot :-) I‘ll try my best to have a good progress in this second year as well 🥁😁
Keep going..
Oh hey there, co-lady drummer! ☺️ I started last April 2021, and got my edrum last Dec. I've never tried to learn some songs until my 11th month. I only do exercises---a big mistake. Rock on, sis!
Thanks! But I think your way is good too. I hadnt practice rudiments, technique etc. so much in the first six months. But as I started to do so, my playing got better and easier. I think we can practice what we like too. Its just important that we do it and keep it up 👍🎶🥁🚀 there are so cool Videos on RUclips and tutorials which support you to learn songs. Which kind of music would you like to play and do you have a teacher?
@@verodrums8878 Hi! I don't have a teacher since I cant afford one yet so I rummaged YT for helpful drum teachers that are very effective for beginners (w/o me snoring thru the whole video.Haha).
I'm at the stage of being lost in piecing things together, after all the exercises, I'm trying to figure out why I can't make an interesting groove. I even blamed quarter life crisis for this one! Hahahahaha. True, we dont have that fire burning every second of our lives. Every now and then we'll need some time to take a break. I can't thank you enough for this little chat. :D
@@Jamva1020 Do you have the possibilities to play with other musicians? Maybe this could help you to practice creativity and improvisation. It is a current goal of mine, too. ;-) Did you try to jam on a Play Along or to cover a song? I had a long week without drumming now and the last few weeks I barely practiced. wow, you are good!
Thank you, that’s kind of you!
Just learning those few annoying rudiments helps a lot in the long run, I found over the years. The brass ride doesn't sound that bad either!
This such a great document of what desire plus discipline plus determination plus consistency brings. It was amazing to watch what evolution your hands and whole body and energy on the drums went thru when you re-focused on technique at one point. Definitely going to show my my students this for inspiration! Love your cymbal change ups too! I don’t think I’ve seen anyones ears be able make sophisticated choices like that so quickly! Keep on rockin!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Since I started to practice rudiments and stickings on the practice pad, the progress got really fast, it pushed my progress so well. I started to be faster, the playing became more clearly, some progress in dynamics. Practice Pad-Time is soooo important! 🥁👍

Anyhow, thanks for posting this and stay at it!

any more recommendations on where to get drum-less songs?
