DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent. I just like examining popular tournament formats.

This is the first fully completed 3 stage line of Pokemon here on FSG! Congrats to our Ghouly Friends, and let us all pray for the eventual Gengar Remake
Pi/Pika/Raichu?
@@eddiehowell9871 I can't believe anyone would just forget about the pichu episode. That episode is a fan favourite of mine
Great, now we need the coverage of the Butterfree and the Beedrill line
Or better idea ACTUALLY DOING A SEISMITOAD VIDEO
Technically, the Porygon line was already covered before then. Speaking of whole 3 stage lines covered, does anyone else think there's little reason not to have the whole Alakazam line covered? Abra & Kadabra look to have done quite well in their respective tier places much like Alakazam, & it wouldn't really be surprising if the latter had at least one notable placing in doubles/VGC.
Funny how first stage Gastly has the same base Special Attack as Altered Giratina
I literally just cracked realizing that statement is true. And i don't mean cracked in the sense of laughing my head off, but rather cracking emotionally realizing a tiny ball of gas hits as hard as the Pokemon Devil if it isn't at home or holding an Orb to return it to its original form.
And more than flygon and garchomp and suicune

not basically, it IS lc uber.

Considering how Gastly was done, interested in how Abra, a Pokemon similar to it stat and movepool wise, will be analyzed on this channel
Abra is also one the premier Special Attacker of LC as far as i know. It has greater SpA and Speed (achieve 19 speed naturally is a big thing in LC)
Abra absolutely clapped Little cup in gens 2 and 3. Dunno if it's the same anymore thanks to sucker punch, physical and special split and Vullaby.

I always wonder how and why even Gastly isn’t too bad in the meta game..then I remember it’s base 100 special attack, base 80 speed, an insane move pool, and amazing ability and typing make it a lower tier monster in the right hands and an absolute little cup terror.

To be fair, being a first stage Pokémon means you at least have a chance in LC.
@@thatcurator5690 That doesn't stop over half of little cup being horribly outclassed.
Another major factor that buffed Gastly was that it's most common counter, Grimer-Alola, was also removed from the game. Grimer-Alola was one of the few mons that gave GastBra some problems
Thats why I dont play gen 8... every other gen was like a gradual increment and I could keep up. Then gen 8 came and just threw so many mons, tactics and moves into the trash!

If you look at the challenge videos, Gastly is the best first form Pokemon in the game.
A lot of Kanto first forms have oddly high attack stats. Krabby and Abra especially come to mind, I believe they have base 105 in their respective attack stats
@@zememerr2329 I wonder how certain Pokemon would do if there was a physical/special split in Gen 1.
Gastly; the Pokemon that Pokemon Stadium struggled to animate on N64.
You know what's spooky? When Gastly has almost the length video as Gengar
Yeah, Gengar's video is in need of an update.
But then again, that'll be a pretty long video.
@@nightmare3642 Yeah, Gengar has the most complicated competitive histories pretty much of any Pokemon ever, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that no mon benefited more from the generation by generation mechanics changes then Gengar. In gen 1 Gengar literally didn't have a STAB move, but thanks to its typing and movepool it managed to find a legitimate OU niche as a fast sleeper, explosion blocker, and a potential check to all the dangerous normal types running around. Gen 2 improved Gengar's already excellent coverage with egg moves, but he still lacked a viable stab move because ghost was physical for some reason and the only physical move Gengar even considers running is Explosion. Gen 3 introduced abilities, gifting Gengar the incredible Levitate ability, giving it arguably the best defensive typing in the game at the time with 3 critical immunities. Gen 4 FINALLY granted Gengar a viable STAB move thanks to the physical/special split making Shadow Ball a special move, allowing Gengar to threaten neutral targets it really couldn't threaten before. The addition of Focus Sash and Life Orb were also very significant boons to Gengar's offensive capabilities. And this happened without sacrificing ANY of Gengar's utility (ele punches no longer being special hit Gengar's coverage options slightly, but the new Focus Blast and HP still existing ensured Gengar didn't miss them that much). Gengar even got some new utility moves courtesy of trick and taunt. Gen 5 is notable only for being the first gen that Gengar didn't get ANY major buffs, and actually had a pretty significant nerf in Explosion's damage getting halved. However riding off of the buffs from Gens 3 and 4 Gengar had no issues finding a niche in Gen 5 OU despite all the power creep and weather wars and stuff because its movepool was just THAT deep. Gen 6 granted Gengar a comically busted Mega, ensuring that even ubers was not safe from the ghost boy. Even post mega ban, Gengar still had no issue finding niches for the enterprising player in gen 6 OU. Gen 7 saw Gengar recieve the first notable nerf in trading away levitate for cursed body, however this nerf couldn't have happened at a better time because as it turns out, losing levitate meant Gengar could now benefit from terrains and would you look at that it turns out Gengar absolutely loved EVERY SINGLE one of them. He loved Psychic terrain because being immune to priority meant he could blast sucker punch users without fear of getting punched and could threaten boosted psychics as well. He liked grassey terrain because it offset life orb damage and could allow him to occasionally tank an EQ due to grassey terrain halving EQ damage. He enjoyed throwing out boosted thunderbolts and being immune to sleep in electric terrain, allowing Gengar to function as a very solid check if not counter to the dangerous Breloom. And of course, general status immunity from misty terrain was always appreciated. Gengar also liked Z moves but was by no means dependent on them. Then gen 8 happened and pursuit was removed, and while OU Gengar is nowhere near the level of busted that LC Gastley was, it's still very much a threat thanks in part to pursuit tanking a bunch of its biggest counters like ttar.
@@webbowser8834 don't forget it got Nasty Plot in gen 8
@@matchanavi Oh... I actually didn't know that. That's a pretty significant buff right there.
I also forgot to mention that gen 6 removing steel's resistance to ghost was a huge boon to Gengar's offensive capabilities, making it much harder to wall.
@@webbowser8834 didnt it have night shade?
You got to appreciate FSG covering Little Cup mons.
I wonder if he'll do Ferroseed before or after the Ferrothorn film. IIRC he analyzed Vullaby before it's evolution Mandibuzz.
Given that Vullaby was a Patron request, unless the first month upload poll has requests for Ferroseed spammed, I don’t think that’s going to happen.
Achievement unlocked: All three members of the Gengar line have been reviewed.
I like for his mentions he didn’t mention the episode that made Gastly memorable… the ghost of maidens peak
I honestly remember as a kid I thought Ghost Pokémon were immune to all physical moves and only special moves could hit it. This was in RBY btw
I also thought so back when I was a kid playing gen 2.
Disrespecting the bird gang, as usual.
Gastly can be hit by Seismic Toss in Gen 1 . Wierd times
On Pokémon Stadium's Petit Cup, there's a trainer that has six mons that have Selfdestruct/Explosion. Switching to Gastly as he explodes his entire team is just pure bliss
Petit Cup goes by a height limit, not an evolution limit.
For example, Pokémon like Drowzee aren’t allowed because they exceed the height limit, but Ditto and Farfetch’d, despite not evolving, are allowed.
Haunter: You mean to tell us that you completely defined Little Cup in pretty much every generation and even had some success in tiers outside of it AND you even got banned at some point?
Gastly: Yep. I decided to just do what you two do. Pull fast tricks, give nasty treats and most of all, know how to be spooky.
Gengar: I'm so proud of you! Because of your excellence we terrorize every tier we enter. Whether Ubers, OU, UU, RU, NU, PU and Little Cup we scare somebody into calling for a ban list.
Gastly: Yep. We sure are a spooky family.
Haunter: Not just a spooky family. _The_ spooky family.
I love this comment! Best comment I have ever seen!
Somehow I'd never noticed that Gastly had base 100 SpA and 80 Spd, that's crazy high for an unevolved 3 stage pokemon
Abra has 105 Special Attack and 90 Base Speed
Gen 8: *Removes Pursuit*

Gastly is a ball of fart
@@cuhgaming4943 so your saying you've died too a fart
the fact that this video is only 38 seconds shorter than the gengar video really shows how much better quality fsg's newer videos are. Keep up the good work!
Gotta love FSG. All out of Gen 1 Pokémon to analyze? Let’s analyze unevolved forms!
But I’m all for more Little Cup episodes.
Well they are done with Gen 1 full evos so might as well do LC.
“In the famed Indigo League episode ‘Tower of Terror’”.
My mind was leaning more toward “Ghost of Maiden’s Peak”. Venustoise anyone?
Now we need a "How GOOD was mongoose ACTUALLY?" Video
Happy Halloween!
As a long time LC player, I will always love gastly. It was a staple on my gen 6 and 7 teams, and while it's ban in gen 8 is justified I will miss it. Nothing was better then destroying a powerful team with a purple fart cloud.
Gen 8: removes pursuit
Gastly: Oh happy daaaay ~
I love how both haunter and ghastly came out on Halloween
Was expecting Cofagrigus for this one, didn't expect Gastly .
*Sad coffin noises*
I’m shocked you never mentioned “Ghost in Maiden’s Peak”. That episode made me scared of Gastly a little bit when I encountered it in Gen II.
Did you really just drop a 30 Rock reference like that? One of my favorite jokes from that show!
From a pure entertainment standpoint, this might be the greatest video you've made yet.
I love that he had a whole episode about how great Vullaby was and then shows a clip of Gastly OHKOing it. Granted going up against a Gastly with Thunderbolt isn't what Vullaby was made to do but it still feels emblematic of how good Gastly is in Gen 8.
Probably not the first to say this, but the episode where Gastly basically haunts both Ash's group and Team Rocket, prior to or after releasing Buterfree, before the Sabrina Arc, is a bit more memorable for me because that fucker could speak English and wanted money. :P
Damn, greedy boy
An updated video of Gengar would be fun, it would cover Gens 7 and 8 in competitive battling.
Its insane how everyone in the Gastly line has their own video. it really shows how great it is
My favorite format combined with my favorite type lets go
Also it's crazy to me that Gastly got banned to LC Ubers this gen, just never thought it would be more broken then Abra as an offensive breaker tbh but it makes sense considering how strong ghost and poison dual STABs are with coverage.
It's crazy Gastly had 2(3) out of 6 stats (its most prominent as well) that were the same as Venusaur in Gen 1. I guess Abra was even more ridiculous given that notion though, with STAB to boot.
First pokémon to get a video for the entire evolutionary line.
Little Cup videos always make me happy.
Ghastly is so strong it could even put in work outside of lc. Just like Abra.
This evolutionary line is very spooky in competitive
A 30 Rock reference within the first minute with that Werewolf Bar Mitzvah line? Gosh, I love you guys ❤
I’ve been binging these at night, and i just gotta say, I love the consistency/very slight change in your script overall. Makes it fun to watch.
