I keep saying it, Charizard is to Pokémon what Wolverine is to Marvel; not the official mascot, but gets such an obscene amount of focus that they are basically a secondary mascot.
Media/Smash Bros always gave Char special treatment, but I didn't enjoy using it until late Gen 6. Though not perfect, Mega Charizard Y was incredibly satisfying for common use, to the current year (such as a battle yesterday) wiping in-game teams with Solar Beam and Flamethrower. Any rock move is almost guaranteed to KO it, and plenty of other mons have even higher stats, but I see that as good. Mega Char isn't completely unfair, at least not anymore, but still gets to do this.
Mega Zard Y is my favourite Pokemon ever. Never been a fan of X. I just wish U didn’t get that useless 20 point attack increase. They should be put into speed and special defence. Make a Fast special attacker that can be taken out by most decent physical attacks. I think an extra 5 in SpD and 15 in Spe
@@jembozaba4864 I think GD is starting to lean into that mindset. Those weird new forms for Palkia/Dialga basically move attack into special. I tried adding thunderpunch once to capitalize on the stat, but.. no.
Yeah, I don’t think x should exist. While it’s extremely cool, blue fire, dragon type and all, I just feel that Zard should’ve not got that special treatment and it was just unnecessary.
One of the most interesting parts of VGC Zard Y to me was if you're opponent set up sun first you could just not mega and the solar power boost made it hit significantly harder. Also Zard X while never anywhere near as popularas Zard Y in doubles was still strong enough to be worth considering so it was sometimes able to get some surprises.
we need a paradox ancient charizard that is dragon/fire and looks like what you' would get if you combined the designs of mega charizard x, mega charizard y and gigantamax charizard!
Top 5 Tentacruels would be pretty neat. It's always surprisingly good, and even managed some legitimate ubers niches. Top 5 Deoxys would be pretty cool too since there are multiple forms in play for it (even if Speed and Attack would be the only ones worth mentioning outside of some short-lived OU stints from Defense.)

and as of now, we are on our 3rd raid event and Charizard is the first, second and also only non-regional pokemon to show up in raids. Thanks game freak
if I was to give my personal ranking, number 1 has to be advanced. it's the number one pokemon, it defines the tier and demands that every other pokemon deal in it environment thanks to bringing in the sand. I imagine other good t tars probably include gen 5 ou, gen 2 ou for being a dark type, gen 6 mega t tar. I guess gen 4 or 7 ou to round it out, but in gen 7 it can be either a mega or base form, so maybe gen 7 is better.
I have a confession to make. I purposefully use Yawn on Charizard after it takes damage from Stealth Rocks just to force my opponent to sack their own Charizard or kill it themselves.
It's interesting that outside of the honorable mentions, the list in is chronological order, showing how Charizard only got stronger with time, with the small exception of Gen 4 bringing Stealth Rock to doom it to NU (at least it was great there) until the megas. One interesting thing about ADV Zard is that people used to think Belly Drum was the go to, as evidenced by the now outdated Smogon analysis, but it was not even mentioned here (and I doubt he forgot, since he talks about Bellyzard in the Gen 2 honorable mention). I wonder why it fell off so hard.
Great video. Awesome content as always, very interesting concept of video. Some suggestions about stellar Pokémon over the years: Alakazam / Gengar / Starmie All OU staples that more or less fell off a little bit.

I was thinking about Azumarill here, too. If I remember right, it used to be in Gen 6 OU. I used to run a core with it, Zard-X, and Breloom all the time in early Gen 6. I agree. Mega Evolution was a great addition to the game. And some of the main complaints people had about them (overcentralization, and certain Pokémon needing them and not getting them) could be fixed by just making more of them. And that would also be much more efficient than making entirely new battle gimmicks that they'll just throw away next generation
@@ashikjaman1940 and how would bringing Megas back be bad for marketing? Gamefreak doesn't need a new gimmick each generation. They can just show the new Pokémon, the new region, and characters, and be fine. And if they brought back a fan-favorite mechanic, that'd also be great for marketing
Mega's weren't balanced. Most should have either never existed or been slightly reworked and been standard evolutions. It was suppose to be a mechanic to get weaker pokemon that were fully evolved competitve presence. Starters getting them can be argued both ways.
@@RFDN0 another problem that could be fixed by having more of them. More Megas to check the other ones. And it would do wonders for popularity of lesser-known Pokémon. Besides, it's not like Gamefreak has cared about mechanics being balanced *cough cough Dynamax* Having more Megas be introduced would be better, and certainly more efficient, than having to make an entirely new, unbalanced battle gimmick that's just gonna get thrown away next generation. It would give the opportunity for more forgotten Pokémon to get something legitimately helpful, continue a mechanic that a lot of people liked, and having a lot more might end up somewhat remediating the problems it had originally.
I'd love to see a ranking of which mons were boosted most by their megas! (Could include exclusive Z-moves and Gmax forms, but megas are cooler so..) Some examples could obviously include lopunny and rayquaza, who were made far stronger than they were before.
I really love Charizard as he is my favorite pokemon design wise and nostalgic. Generation five is my favorite generation to use him. He hits heavily as a dashing frate train. During ORAS I used a bulky X Mega Charizard and he just take hits burn it and recover stall until he slowly takes out the opponents.
A couple of Pokemon that I would personally love to see a list like this for would be ttar because there are a lot of different metagames where it's been prevalent, and Scizor mostly because I just think it's a cool pokemon, but also because of the resurgence it's seen in S/V due to tera allowing it to really shine by covering it's weaknesses
late(?), but i want to say that i really enjoyed this video and i'd love to see more in this format: i know there's probably not a ton of pokemon which have had as much variety of roles and niches as the big fire boy, but i'd love to see more, especially since you're including vgc performances which opens a ton of potential, especially ranked and compared with singles performances !

And so many pokemon that did not get a mega has nothing to do with Mewtwo gaining two, its not like there are limited mega slots in the game's code and Mewtwo's second took the spot from something else
@@dntremad8290 I mean... MY personal favorite did get a mega, since it's Gengar. I just kinda find it more of a matter of Game Freak playing favorites. Like, sure, Stealth Rock ruined Charizard's comp career...
But it did the same with Moltres and Articuno. Do you see them getting two mega forms? Nope. They don't even get one.
Mega Zard Y is just absolutely my type of mon; all about hitting HARD and FAST. It's why I prefer special attacking sweepers compared to SETTING UP and STATUS MOVES and playing the long game lol. BUT Terastalization is gonna force me to completely change how I play, and it has me more excited than EVER to get back in to competitive.
there’re so many Charizard that it can go for a tier list video all by himself
I NEED to see a version of this for Tyranitar. I also wanna see an edition of this for Mewtwo and also Skarmory!
How much Skarmory was mentioned in this video alone, it obviously has a place in counteracting threats.
I'd like to see videos where you break down the most impactful previous generations in terms of pokemon - so basically, how many pokemon from the current OU are from each gen?
Gen 7 is likely to be up there. The Tapus, the Ultra Beasts, and Toxapex, just to name some
Wouldn't that just be an alternative version of the power creep videos?
@@egalomon kinda, but it would set all power creeps in comparison and also would look at the different side - the side that was not power crept out of relevance
Definitely Gen 1, that game has nothing but new Pokemon in OU
@@crystalqueen9711 😂
@@Enraptored- If only of the two existed, it would be better for X to exist over Y because of its more unique design and typing
@@ethanc.1443 Fair point.
Charizard is peak pokemon. Haters can cry. I hope he gets a movie based on him so people can cry more.
Yes Charizard is Back! My favorite! Not to mention if he’s coming back obviously the other starters will too so can’t wait.
we need a paradox ancient charizard that is dragon/fire and looks like what you' would get if you combined the designs of mega charizard x, mega charizard y and gigantamax charizard!
I feel like every RAID ad has some kind of variation of “this month is HUGE for RAID”
Man as a charizard lover this is such a beautiful video despite what most of the comments and fan base would say
I always worry about Charizard not making it into a game. It gots so much CHARisma
Hahahahah! Well said!😂
This joke could only thrive by reading it, and you landed it well.
Great video, great info and thanks for the info on gen 8 competitive! I’m not in the competitive scene so it was really cool to hear just how good Charizard really is! Videos like this would be really cool and I hope this becomes a regular series just like the How Good Actually series! Also shoutout to the artist of the thumbnail bc it looks sick!
You know one thing I thought they were going to show with that intro was the charizards from the anime. The manga also had some strong zards
Typhlosion: You took everything away from me!
Charizard: I don't even know who you are
False Swipe Charizard. A weekly Charizard video every week
and as of now, we are on our 3rd raid event and Charizard is the first, second and also only non-regional pokemon to show up in raids. Thanks game freak
Top 5 tyranitars could be interesting with the addition of Iron Thorns once gen 9 has settled.
The fact you were able to make this video shows how insane their obsession with Charizard is.
This just proves Leon knew damn well what he was doing
It's great to see a video dedicated to my favourite starter.
I'd absolutely love to see more videos like this! Maybe Top 5 Tyranitars or something?
if I was to give my personal ranking, number 1 has to be advanced. it's the number one pokemon, it defines the tier and demands that every other pokemon deal in it environment thanks to bringing in the sand. I imagine other good t tars probably include gen 5 ou, gen 2 ou for being a dark type, gen 6 mega t tar. I guess gen 4 or 7 ou to round it out, but in gen 7 it can be either a mega or base form, so maybe gen 7 is better.
@@iBenjamin1000
In gen 6 standard ttar was better than mega ttar and in gen 7 they were about the same, depending on what set you were running.
Some suggestions about stellar Pokémon over the years:
Alakazam / Gengar / Starmie
All OU staples that more or less fell off a little bit.
Best Pokémon ever!
As far as I'm concerned, they can use any variation and any form they want; Charizard is one of the main faces of the franchise and hugely responsible for the success of the I.D.😊
I agree and I honestly love the Charizard love. Can’t wait for the Tera Raids.
Can't wait to see Blazing Tail and Iron Lizard in the upcoming SV DLCs!
You joke, but this would actually be sick as fuck
Blazing Tail being a past Zard X with Fire/Dragon being the new sun threat and Iron Lizard being a future Zard Y with Steel/Flying and being the new Corviknight would just be raw
thanks guys, really loved this video. more charizard is always good,. charizard is the goat, the OG, a way of life, peak design, hopefully we get many more charizards and charizard forms for as long as there is pokemon.
whenever charizard is not on screen, all players should be asking "where's charizard"?
Glad to see Zard overall doing so well competitively throughout the generations despite getting absolutely memed on by steath rocks
Gen 3 was a surprise I didn't know, so thanks lots for this video! And ah, the impacts of Dynamax
Regarding the concept, I'm biased due to favoritism, but I'd love to see Flygon. It has been hovering around RU for a while, but it has always been a good mon of whatever tier it has been in, so I feel it could be interesting. Whoever you go with, thanks and good luck!
LIZARDON!!! The Best Pokemon of all times 🔥🐲. And of course this type of videos are amazing and entertaining 🤩
7:57 Could’ve brought this up in this Zard remake, but there was also Azumarill and Mega Altaria.
Yeah i think that some players ran t punch for azu
I was thinking about Azumarill here, too. If I remember right, it used to be in Gen 6 OU. I used to run a core with it, Zard-X, and Breloom all the time in early Gen 6.
I'll admit I didn't think about Mega Altaria, but I would think it would actually fare even better with its bulk and reliable recovery.
@@reddragonair3147 It is, up until the end of Gen 7. Although the Primals still ruled gen 7, Azu became a pushover.

Blastoise too. Can’t have one without the other.

It’s cool to hate Charizard nowadays but he’ll forever be one of the coolest Pokémon ever
These vid ideas are so creative! Love to see best pokemon in each generation of OU, as well as a continuation to the how good was ____ type actually!

really cool video. really like this format - loving the variety on this channel lately! keeps bringing me back for more.
I would love to see this expanded to other pokemon too, though im not sure which one to recommend at this moment.
Chairzard really does get a lot of love
The fact that SW/SH footage has a tiny Groudon is the most hilarious thing ever. How is THE GODDAMN CREATOR OF THE CONTINENTS approximately 1,60m tall?
this is an amazing series idea
Great video as always False Swipe Charizard
I love the iconic moment when Charizard said “It’s Charizarding time” and Charizarded all over the tier
that's like 3 people who've come up with the same joke, great work everyone.
You guys are reaching your full potential with these style of videos
I love charizard and all it’s forms. I Always have, and always will.
Oh goddamn it.
Of course we'd have enough forms for a video like this!
I'm starting to think maybe Charizard is favoured by GAMEFREAK somewhat.
I'm more surprised that BASE Zard made it onto the list. Twice
Modest Mega Charizard Y with solar beam and hidden power ghost was my personal go to in gen 6!
Charizard is the real mascot of Pokémon. Also arguably my favorite Pokémon.
In terms of being a mascot, I agree. Charizard’s popularity always felt natural compared to how much Pikachu and Eevee were shoved down everyone throat for multiple decades.
@@catsorafgc Implying that Charizard wasn't shoved down constantly too.
@@yungmuney5903 not initially no. Charizard was just Charizard. He didn’t start getting pushed heavily until Gen 6. Pikachu, Eevee, and even Lucario was pushed more until then

Pokemon: Charizard supermacy b!tches version.
*“Coming Soon! Top 5 Aggrons of all time!”*
I love charizard, i agree that all starters should be in every game though. Hopefully they bring mega evolution back.
I agree. Mega Evolution was a great addition to the game. And some of the main complaints people had about them (overcentralization, and certain Pokémon needing them and not getting them) could be fixed by just making more of them. And that would also be much more efficient than making entirely new battle gimmicks that they'll just throw away next generation
@@ianluk6385 but marketing
Besides, it's not like Gamefreak has cared about mechanics being balanced *cough cough Dynamax*
Having more Megas be introduced would be better, and certainly more efficient, than having to make an entirely new, unbalanced battle gimmick that's just gonna get thrown away next generation. It would give the opportunity for more forgotten Pokémon to get something legitimately helpful, continue a mechanic that a lot of people liked, and having a lot more might end up somewhat remediating the problems it had originally.
Glad you mentioned Bellyzard.
I for one accept our long time Charizard overlords.
I'd love to see a ranking of which mons were boosted most by their megas! (Could include exclusive Z-moves and Gmax forms, but megas are cooler so..)
Some examples could obviously include lopunny and rayquaza, who were made far stronger than they were before.
As a Gen 1 veteran who loves Charizard, this is a satisfying video to watch.
Fantastic video, I absolutely loved it!
Another idea for you is to explore how good individual items were.
Choice Spe-- er, Topic!
This False Swipe Charizard channel is producing the best Charizard content on Chartube; Charizard, Charizard. Char Char.
I love the treatment Charizard constantly gets and I dont care for these haters
I thought this was actually going to be a list of specific Zards, say the one that achieved 2nd at Worlds, but this is a cool concept too.
I love charizard, I don’t care about anyone else and what they think. It’s an awesome Pokémon and that’s why it’s a fan favourite
