@@ikarainijirai Hard to tell because for SOME REASON size isn't accurately represented in the current gen console games even though it was in like 1997
Wailord is just kinda betrayed by its stats and typing. Water is a good type, but there are so many other pokemon with the water type that you gotta be really strong or specialized to stand out among this group. Its base 170 hp is fantastic, but base 45 defenses means that only does so much. Base 90 in attacking stats is pretty bland, and base 60 speed is bad. It just doesn't stand out in any meaningful way, so there's almost always a better option for what you need.
Yeah I feel like a base 60 speed stat seems a tad too high considering how little it’s mobility actually is, and some of those points could’ve helped a lot by buffing some of its other stats, perhaps becoming a slightly viable bulky water type?
@@legoferrari14 it does not need more hp. It’d be best if it’s stats got redistributed so it lost like 50 base hp and it got put practically anywhere else. The only real effect it’s hp has is making seismic toss nightshade ect do practically nothing going from 60 to 110 speed would make water spout sets far better ( though still ruined by priority in a similar vein to archeops). Alternatively splitting it between speed and special attack or putting some into defense or special defense ( having such high hp is only good if you have decent defensive stats or have some way to covert that into damage ( like counter metal burst or final gambit) and wailord doesn’t have those)
90 attack and sp attack is good by gen 3 standards. It really needs buffs to its defenses, I'm thinking a cut into its attack for one of the defenses would be really good. Like 60 attack and 75 defense. Reducing its speed to 30 and toss it into sp defense would also be huge. 170 hp 60 att 75 def 90 spatt 75 spdef 30 speed This should make it much better.
“As round as wailord may be, a well-rounded Pokemon it is not.” You’d think with that massive HP stat, Wailord might have a semblance of a niche even in the lower tiers, but even in this gen’s current ZU, it is still an awful choice there…
@@the_Rad18 not really. Many pokemon can make that work, by functioning as tanks. But it reguires at least a decent attack to do it efficiently. Wailord has nothing in that regard. Mediocre Atk stats, awful speed and defenses, terrible moveset all around...
Poor Wailord. Water is a great defensive type and if Wailord had any sort of high bulk and reliable recovery, and maybe some higher offenses cuz Wynaut, then it would be amazing.
It's both funny and kind of accurate that Wailord learns Self-destruct, since some whale carcasses that wash ashore can produce so much gas inside of them when they decompose they can actually explode their own bellies sometimes. Pokemon with their dark undertones never ceases to amaze me.
That’s really cool reasoning, but I think the man reason is that Wailmer and Wailord are pretty round (especially Wailmer) and most of the Pokémon who learn self-destruct are round (Forretress, Electrode, Snorlax) I like your reasoning better though.

I'm stunned that it was actually good in Gen 3 OU. I was expecting another case of being outclassed by the endless other water types and being unviable in every tier for every generation. I knew it'd have a niche, anything with water spout can't be that bad, but I didn't expect it to last an entire generation.
You should’ve seen it in the gen 3 Pokédex size comparison. Made the player look almost like a flea. Gen 4 dex’s weight comparison would also send the player skyrocketing off the scale.
I actually came up with a Water/Steel type Wailmer regional form for my fakemon region, that evolves into a new evolution (I haven't thought of a name for it yet) themed after submarines. Their signature ability is called Solid Steel, which doubles their Defense stat. Wailmer's stat spread is 130/80/40/60/60/30: 400 and the evolution's stat spread is 170/100/50/65/75/40: 500.
I would rearrange its base stats to be a bit more defensive, and give it slack off or recover as a move for recovery. And maybe give it an ability like oblivious or thick fat. I would take 10 base attack, 10 base special attack, and 30 base speed and move them into its defenses. Hp - 170 Attack - 80 Defense - 70 Sp Attack - 80 Sp Defense - 70 Speed - 30
@@kuramarosetta8193 You might want to redo your math. It's defenses went from base 45s to base 70. That's a +25 for each defensive stat, in total 50 stat points, not 70.

Resists be damned, you died, lost half your team, and sent out fodder for the now extremely dangerous trio on the other side. I had to devise an entire trick room/follow me team to deal with this ish. It was outrageous.
In pokemon Battle Revolution it is perfect sized and really cool to play. Our wail boi just needs a new game where it gets a big buff in sp def and has a perfect sized model in battle.
I'm honestly more interested in these pokemon than like, all deoxys forms or the charizard remake. Like I'd like to see them eventually but it's so fun to hear about a forgotten or not very popular pokemon actually having competitive use.
Maybe +20 in both defenses, and some assault vest friendly moves like Scald, Flip turn (would be funny as hell) or head smash for the memes. Something for it to have of its own, being a pokemon equivalent of an irl animal sucks because the usually give them moves based on the irl animals so they lack coverage. Hydration as an ability might be cool too, intimidate as well
I once used a team in Sw&Sh where I used guard split Shuckle to buff Wailord's defenses to a respectable point, then used Amnesia and Curse until it became fully bulky, Liquidation as its main damaging move, and Rest in case I got too low. Oblivious is the perfect ability for it too since it blocks taunt which would be the main weakness of the set. It won me a surprising amount of battles. Only real danger was Storm Drain/Water Absorb, but I had other teammates to counter those. Don't underestimate this big boi.
It's not that much of a buff but, i'm playing a hack rom where they gave it drizzle and 20 plus in both its defense stats, and without the gen 6 weather nerf, it's kinda good
Man as soon as they gave the elite for a wailord it’s base stats should’ve got a healthy boost! imo HP:170 Atk:90 Def:80 Sp.Atk:90 Sp.Def:87 Spd:60 or gave it a held item that double both it’s defenses & speed how bout that!
Reminds me of the time when I got owned by a wailord in the gen 4 battle tower 32. round. Double Team + Calm Mind + Rest + Surf... The battle tower really let you experience different sides of oneself....
Wailord would just need access to instant recovery, maybe Roost or Slack Off, and some setup attacks like Curse, or even just Stockpile to boost its defenses. I feel that just with that, he could have a niche, even if its in the lowest tiers.
i love wailord. biggest of big chonkers -- Possible changes -- Typing: Give it some kind of expanded defensive profile. There is another gimmick with Pressure thats been popping up in PU and ZU. With Pressure, Noble Roar, Rest, Defense Curl and Block, you can theoretically pressure stall anything that isnt a ghost type or has a switch out move until they struggle. Its typically used against mons like Pyukumuku and Shuckle. They can toxic you, but you rest it off and every move on you uses 2pp. Defense Curl is for having 64 pp that you can stall out even longer with and Noble Roar is to weaken them enough to the point where your leftovers heals off the damage youve taken better. It has many flaws such as being unable to trap the aforementioned type of mons. Losing if Wailord isnt bulky enough to tank the initial hits. Losing if the opponent has +2 stat boosting moves like swords dance or nasty plot. And many many other flaws, but its still a niche that works rather well.
And Wailord was one of my top 10 faves from Gen 3 on it's debut... If I were to buff it, give it an ability that buffs Water Spout or Selfdestruct in terms of their damage. And that ability would not cut out Damp's one use, which isn't used very often anyway. Maybe also give it both a Special Attack/Special Defense buff alongside that. Don't know where that would leave him (if I were to guess, RU?) but he would be better.
Choice Specs Wailord is the best proven strategy by the way. Again, Wailord deserves Boomburst and sound moves or should I say high-frequency noise are whales' area of expertise.
In the TCG, Wailord broke the record for having the highest HP in the history of TCG. As of now, 340 HP is the highest HP atm, and done by VMAX (represents dynamax Pkmn)
The main reason I remember Wailord is mostly thanks to Emerald Kaizo. In that game, Wailord's stats were greatly buffed and its Water Spout is now a recoil move, but in exchange, its speed was lowered to 1.
We need a regional form for wailord, maybe something like an orca being dark/water, or whale skeleton being ghost/water both options with greatly improved stats.

I'm stunned that it was actually good in Gen 3 OU. I was expecting another case of being outclassed by the endless other water types and being unviable in every tier for every generation. I knew it'd have a niche, anything with water spout can't be that bad, but I didn't expect it to last an entire generation.
Yeah his career fits his size in one aspect. He fits in where ever possible.^^
Seeing Wailord's model in Gen 6-8 actually hurts after the absolute Titan in Gen 3 and 4.
Ahi, Dynamax Wailord is even bigger than the gen 3-4 model
@@resurrekt7114 Not really. It's about the same size. And that's not at all a compromise.
If you want big wailord boy you should play Collosseum and XD. Things are massive lol

When i read the description i instantly thought of Failboat (after the RUclipsr with the same name) as a name, because it rhymed with Wailord.
@@aureliodeprimus8018 Not really
@@aureliodeprimus8018 You know what a rhyme is... right? That absolutely does not rhyme. The end of a word has to rhyme not the beginning.
I've always wanted to do nearly the same pokemon you just described. I named mine Stalphin. After stall and stalwart and dolphin.
do you have an insta page for your region?
I would rearrange its base stats to be a bit more defensive, and give it slack off or recover as a move for recovery. And maybe give it an ability like oblivious or thick fat.
I would take 10 base attack, 10 base special attack, and 30 base speed and move them into its defenses.
Hp - 170
Attack - 80
Defense - 70
Sp Attack - 80
Sp Defense - 70
Speed - 30
it already has oblivious and I would prefer regenerator with better defenses
@@anuragkat66 oh crap I wasn't aware of that. My bad
@@kuramarosetta8193 You might want to redo your math. It's defenses went from base 45s to base 70. That's a +25 for each defensive stat, in total 50 stat points, not 70.
@@WarrickAuthor No problem bro also in this video it's abilities are mentioned
I think without offensive presence my boi would just be Alohamola v2 but worse since Mola has good recovery and regenerater
Do Terrakion next. I think he's underrated right now.
Iroh i agree
Oh that'll be interesting to hear!
Ever sience Urshifu sayed hi Terrakion sayed goodbye
He was so damned good in gen 5.
Straight unruly in doubles/triples.
Triples was the worst, man.
Weavile left, terrak center, whim right.
Weav beats up terrak to +6 in triples, whim sets off tailwind and terrak sets off an absolutely nuclear +6 rock gem rock slide on the opposing team. Resists be damned, you died, lost half your team, and sent out fodder for the now extremely dangerous trio on the other side. I had to devise an entire trick room/follow me team to deal with this ish. It was outrageous.
Ahh yes the founder of powercreep of gen 5
I really like wailord. I just wish his size was more property depicted in battle
We can always just Dynamax it for it's accurate size! 📏 🐳
In pokemon Battle Revolution it is perfect sized and really cool to play. Our wail boi just needs a new game where it gets a big buff in sp def and has a perfect sized model in battle.
Ah yes, the return to the "terrible gen 3 pokemon" series after last weekend's hiatus
Well at least this time was asked by the patreons.
I'm honestly more interested in these pokemon than like, all deoxys forms or the charizard remake. Like I'd like to see them eventually but it's so fun to hear about a forgotten or not very popular pokemon actually having competitive use.
Delcatty, Exploud, Swalot, Torkoal, Grumpig, Spinda, Zangoose, Seviper, Lunatone, Solrock, Kecleon, Tropius, Huntail, Gorebyss, Relicanth, and Latios

Wow! That horrible!! 😱💥🐳☠️
Heavy Slam Wailord dominated every single metagame. An absolute monster, so terrifying that it sends chills down my spine.
Wailord isn’t even that heavy…?
@@maxspecs exactly
Only the most elite Pokémon masters know about this niche
It weights 300 kg... really low for its size, but still heavy for a pkmn
@@maxspecs It's pretty heavy. They did some weight creeping in gen 7 which makes it seem a lot lighter, but up 2 gen 6 it was quite heavy.
Hydration as an ability might be cool too, intimidate as well
It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but Wailord should totally have Counter and/or Mirror Coat to utilize its high HP but low defenses
water type wobbufett without shadow tag
From bootleg Kyogre to Bootleg Kyogre and Wobuffet
That would be an improvement however
It would just be wobuffet but water type and it can actually attack on its own now
i’d tweak it base stats a tad..
hp 190
atk 90
def 55 or 68
sp.atk 90
sp.def 55 or maybe 87
spd 60
hmm what u guys think?
I once used a team in Sw&Sh where I used guard split Shuckle to buff Wailord's defenses to a respectable point, then used Amnesia and Curse until it became fully bulky, Liquidation as its main damaging move, and Rest in case I got too low. Oblivious is the perfect ability for it too since it blocks taunt which would be the main weakness of the set. It won me a surprising amount of battles. Only real danger was Storm Drain/Water Absorb, but I had other teammates to counter those. Don't underestimate this big boi.
Playing XD: Gale of Darkness and Battle Revolution with all Wailords was a titan battle!
It's not that much of a buff but, i'm playing a hack rom where they gave it drizzle and 20 plus in both its defense stats, and without the gen 6 weather nerf, it's kinda good

I though wailmer learnt stockpile?
wailord already learns curse via breeding

-- Possible changes --
Typing: Give it some kind of expanded defensive profile. Water/Steel is an easy thematic choice, but if we're feeling extra spicy, Water/Fire is an incredibly unique typing as well.
Ability: Thick Fat would allow Wailord to just really laugh in the face of Fire and Ice types.
Why would it be either of those types?
@@monikatelescope9311 wailord's design is reminiscent of a submarine (water/steel) or blimp (water/fire), but mostly just cause they'd be fun and make for pretty interesting defensive profiles

give it huge power instead its massive

Wailord has a legit OU viability in gen 3. Hun pretty impressive.

For some reason I could envision a regional variant of Wailord that is made of rubber and therefore has an electric immunity. Maybe decrease its Atk/SpA to give it more bulk too. Or keep its bulk as is and give it Pain Split. idk I’m just spitballing ideas at this point.
Wailord's biggest problem is that its defensive stats are a complete joke. Why is a huge whale pokemon weaker in its defense than oddish or joltik?
It has the exact same problem as Emboar,Guzzlord and Regidrago.

ATK 90
DEF 87

I think it doesn't need a new form or anything else. Just a buff in Sp.Def. Just see Blissey what can do with High HP and high Sp. Def. With 130-140 basic Sp. Def , pure water type and Oblivious it would become a really good Water tank.
+Normal-type +Boom Burst +Reverse Technician ability that boosts moves with 140+ base power.

That Wailord better stay as far as possible from my shiny Houndoom. I'll grab a harpoon I swear to god.
Hope Heavy Slam Wailord will be mentioned as a meme
And Wailord was one of my top 10 faves from Gen 3 on it's debut...
If I were to buff it, give it an ability that buffs Water Spout or Selfdestruct in terms of their damage. And that ability would not cut out Damp's one use, which isn't used very often anyway. Maybe also give it both a Special Attack/Special Defense buff alongside that. Don't know where that would leave him (if I were to guess, RU?) but he would be better.
Biggest sin is making Wailord far too small in the current games
SeeingWailord size in the garage in Colosseum still gives me goosebumps
Pokemon, bring this back
0:57 Wailords can also breed with Digletts, which are even smaller than Skitties
Neat analysis! Thanks for uploading!
Choice Specs Wailord is the best proven strategy by the way. Again, Wailord deserves Boomburst and sound moves or should I say high-frequency noise are whales' area of expertise.
I better see the famous Curse Amnesia Rest Heavy Slam Wailord for Gen 6, Kellen.
In the TCG, Wailord broke the record for having the highest HP in the history of TCG. As of now, 340 HP is the highest HP atm, and done by VMAX (represents dynamax Pkmn)
3:37 "It may have been small" A comment i never thought i would here about wailord
The Wailord x Skitty memes live on.
As it should.
The main reason I remember Wailord is mostly thanks to Emerald Kaizo. In that game, Wailord's stats were greatly buffed and its Water Spout is now a recoil move, but in exchange, its speed was lowered to 1.
Man, Wailord’s impact in competitive battling after Gen 3 is about as lifeless as it’s animation.
