Honestly, I think being psychic dark would be really bad for beeheyem since it’d fold like a house of cards to a single u-turn, which is suuuper common. 4x weakness to bug already holds back Hoopa unbound, which is a way stronger Pokémon so I feel like it’d make beeheyem even worse unfortunately 😵💫
Gen 5 is my favorite generation, too! Black was my first Pokemon game, and Maractus was one of my favorites. I did usually use Simisage more than it in battle, but I LOVED using it in the dress-up thingy (can't remember what it's called unfortunately) and its cry is awesome. It definitely deserves more love than Gamefreak gave it.
I feel like Heatmor could lean even more into being a slow, imposing force vs Durants. Alongside increasing its bst (Durants rely on numbers to beat Heatmor, so them having the exact same bst doesn't really make sense), its Speed can even be lowered to less middling values. A stat spread like 95 HP, 118 Attack, 81 Defense, 105 Special Attack, 81 Special Defense, and 45 Speed (525 bst) could boost its defenses even more while also making its physical Attack be more of a focus, coinciding with its eventual signature move being physical (and also because its physical movepool is a bit better, with boosting moves like Curse/Hone Claws). It would also see more usage on the occasional Trick Room teams. Another thing I noticed is that Heatmor, being an anteater, has large digging claws and access to moves like Slash and Night Slash. Though giving it Sharpness probably wouldn't be likely, since Game Freak most likely just wants to put more focus on its tongue instead of its claws.
So heatmor and durant shouldn’t have the same base stat total because durant rely on out numbering heatmor? I just like it when counterparts have the same base stat total. It is very satisfying to me for some reason but for heatmor I’m not against it since it clearly deserves to be better.
>Give Maractus one of the most broken setup moves in the game, along with a move that gets stronger the more boosts you have, and moves to counteract the things that would normally counter it. >”Subtle Additions”
I feel like the sinister sort of Dark-ish hypnosis/mind control Psychic Pokémon (Hypno, Beheeyem, probably etc.) should get some sort of Ability that lowers opponents’ Special Defense. I see it as an early intro to the hypnosis thing- making other Pokémon more vulnerable to their Special/mental attacks.
Honestly, though i agree with you in your changes to Maractus, i would really just refer any buffs to Maractus to the Radical Red Hackrom. There's many Pokemon who got buffed there, but Maractus slips under the radar even though it EATS. My Maractus pretty much carried me through battles she had NO BUSINESS being in. If you're curious, they added Grassy Surge as a possible ability and gave it Sappy Seed (i think it was the name of the attack) dealing damage and activating Leech Seed at the same time. They buffed it's defense and attack, but left it's Sp. Atk the same, so it could go either way for damage. It was a pretty decent Tank/Stall, which for any Grass types not named Amoonguss/Ferrothorn/Bulbasaur is a quite high bar to achieve. This didn't make Maractus Broken, but viable, which i think it's best for it, and really i'm now really fond of Maractus because of RR.
If we're talking about romhacks, there's an game called Pokemon Blazing Emerald and there's an regional form of Maractus that not only looks even better, but it's way more reliable too.
Working on an all doubles Black 1 rebalance hack and this was really useful to watch. One of my changes to Elgyems line is giving him Friend Guard so he might not be bringing a huge power on his own but is making the team overall a lot stronger. But when evolving it turns into Download. Now he has the chance to be a bit of a harder hitter. I think its a fun play on "we come in peace" into a betrayal as they collect data on earthlings.
I think a really cool ability u could give Maractus would be a custom ability called spiked skin. Like rough skin, but instead of damaging, any contact move would remove spikes from Maractus’ body and set a layer of spikes on their side of the field. This would help make this Mon more of a bulky setup Mon that people would have to play around to avoid messing with
Honestly I never understood when people hated the “run out of ideas bad designs” one of my favorites to this day is Vanillish. I remember in Moon my favorite that was basically my starter replacement was a shiny Vanillite. Cute lil guy
Yeah. And being able to look at an object and turn it into a creature is the exact opposite of not being creative in their designs. I love Pokémon like Klinklang. Gen 5 was awesome.
Here's some of my ideas for buffs and other changes: Maractus +5 Defense +5 Special Defense +5 Speed - New Ability. Some possible options: Iron Barbs, Heatproof, Soundproof, Dancer, Sand Veil, Sand Rush, Own Tempo - Water Gun, Scald, Hydro Pump Stunfisk Limber -> Water Absorb/Dry Skin/Storm Drain Druddigon +15 Defense Beheeyem Psychic -> Psychic/Steel +10 Sp.Atk Heatmor Fire -> Fire/Ground Flash Fire -> Steam Engine +10 HP +10 Sp.Def -10 Speed
I'd give the Elgyem line the Psychic/Ghost type. Not because they are ghostly, but because alien encounters are told the same hauntingly way as ghost stories, & both Ghost & Dark are evil & manipulative.
I find it funny how Heatmor’s victims (Durant) basically outclass Heatmor in every single way (other than Heatmor’s type advantage). I feel like that is sort of a funny twist of irony.
Fakemon idea- A grass/water fire hydrant cactus pokemon since like you said cacti can store water and a fire hydrant is kind of shaped like a cactus. Abilities- Chlorophyl Water absorb Hidden ability- Flash fire This pokemon can last twelve months on end without needing water and spends the early morning hours photosynthesizing energy and then returning to a shaded shelter to wait out the harsh midday heat of its desert environment while conserving water. It rely’s on venomoth and zubats to disperse its pollen at night during the rainy season.
I think its important to remeber the reason there are so many pokemon is because not everyones gonna like a design persay but I will admit some of the find locations/Movesets really make it hard for some of these to be "viable" instead of the design itself being the problem. I say this because maractus and heatmor are hella cool imo lmao
@@YemitaDeHuevo-uk5iq in part, i think its also a reference to the myth that 10%(?) of ants are lazy but i much prefer the true ant interpretation :3 maybe its both tho!
Pokemon has been doing better with giving each their own identity, but it is impossible with Pokemon’s format. In a turn based RPG there really aren’t that many playstyles (absolutely not 800+) so most are just going to double up. And stats are extremely important 1 extra speed stat means you will always outspeed, so many different unique stat spreads just make a pokemon bad or a bad version of another. Also moves are a pretty big problem, they try to limit giving every pokemon every move so they feel unique but it often feels clunky or makes pokemon with good moves that much better. A special attacking water type without scald (before gen 9 where it got taken off of everyone) felt like a straight downgrade rather than unique. To make pokemon actually all feel unique they have to break from the turn based style combat in some way (more stuff like trick room but a bit more extreme)
One idea I had in mind for buffing Heatmor is because it’s design and behavior of eating Durant, I can see it being a Fire/Steel type like Heatran. Sure, it would make it weak to Fighting types and even weaker to Ground, but it would give Heatran resistances to Normal, Flying, Psychic, Dragon, Steel, Fairy and an immunity to Poison. And for Steel type moves it could learn via level up, I can see Heatran capable of learning Bullet Punch since he has a few punching moves, Metal Claw for obvious reasons, Iron Defense to make it bulkier, and because of it’s tail is like a muffler while his head looks like its made out of metal, Heatmor’s late Steel moves that it could learn could be Iron Tail & Iron Head. What do you think? And also, what are your thoughts on Serperior, Samurott and the three elemental monkeys?
Love the changes you made to Maractus but what if we also give it a signature move? Let’s call it Maraca Shake. The move would most likely be a grass type (though I thought about it maybe being fairy) It would deal 75 damage and have a chance to boost its special attack. It’s accuracy would be 100. I feel like with this move it would play into its name very well.
I do have a second take on a Stunfisk rework: 1.) I agree with the change to its defences, but keep the special attack aspect. It already has great options in Thunder(bolt) and Earth Power. The Galarian form seems to favor the physical side anyhow, so this would help to keep it unique 2.) Replace Limber with Sand Veil and give it Electric Surge as a new hidden ability instead. Terrain setters are incredibly valuable and it would still tie in to its theme as a trap pokemon
Maractus with Quiver Dance, Cotton Guard, Giga Drain, and Stored Power would actually be pretty interesting, though I feel like it would box out Lilligant. Personally, I would make it Grass/Ground and lean more into the defenses, and maybe give it something like Heatproof to be better defensively. This might infringe on Torterra's niche of being a defensive grass/ground with Leech Seed a bit, but I'm not too concerned about that since Torterra has pivoted to being a Shell Smash sweeper in gen 9.
You forgot a few regarding the starters. Servine should have been half dragon, Pignite being half Ground instead of YET ANOTHER fighting Pokémon, and Oshawott be half Fighting.
What about giving maractus a signature ability to make him unique? Like the one of the popplio line, every sound based move becomes a grass move and then give it something like echoed voice or boomburst
the dark psychic is the worst defensive type in the game you get a 4× weakness and for a immunity Psychic already resisted, and you have literally zero resistances
The intro is exactly the reason why I love Unova and it's is my favorite generation. And it's always so surprising to me that many people dont seem to like gen 5. Why!?
I would have given maractus round as secondary type, the added immunity to sandstorms makes sense with desert region its found in. It doesn't learn a lot of ground moves sure, but that could very well be tweaked alongside the other moves you gave it.
I feel the same about Heatmor as you do with Beheeyem. I think Heatmor's design is really cool, and I wish it was a better Pokémon. Loved the Defiant joke. 😆
Love Beheeyem's design. The trenchcoat alien used to be my favourite back in the Gen 5 days. I really hope they give it more attention. A new form, evo, whatever-the-heck.
I would make Maractus a Grass/Ground type. Giving it additional bug, ground, and dark moves. I would also give it Regenerator as a hidden ability, with Soundproof and Water Absorb as its other abilities. Definitely give it access to the dancing moves such as Teeter Dance and Quiver Dance. But I would keep it as a special attacker as a counterpart to Cacturne as a physical attacker. I would allow it to learn Bug Buzz, Dark Pulse, Hyper Voice, Water Gun, Hydro Pump, Earth Power, Sand Tomb and others, as either level up, or tutor moves. Stored Power I would probably keep as a TM or tutor move as well.
Heatmor move fire whip or something is very good. Definitely should be passed around for more pokemon to use. Some of these pokemon definitely needed either. Prevo so the stats could be buffed or an evo like later gens are giving to make them fresh again. Hopefully a remake of black and white comes out to give them another round
@@PokemonWoop they could probably move some pokemon around to earlier routes. That's what they should be doing especially for earlier gens where a lot of the wild is similar pokemon.
Honestly Beeheyem is sorta underrated. Slow, and only moderately bulky? Yeah. But analytic on its 125 special attack makes it hit harder than even Reuniclus, so it has the most firepower of the psychic types.
I'd make Maractus a Grass/Ground pkmn & only give it sand related Ground type moves. All your changes apply. Yes, we are talking Toxic Spikes+ Leech Seed + Sand Tomb tactics.

I actually find druddigon to be pretty underrated design wise. I with it had an evolution or even a mega, cause he has a lot of potential when you also look at its stats and abilities
I guess when your competition is Haxorus and Hydreigon it's hard to stand out
I think Druddigon has a good design
I feel like Druddigon has the unfortunate circumstance of being a run of the mill Dragon type. With most being impressive legendaries and pseudo-legendaries, the more average dragons like Druddigon and Altaria never have a chance to stand out. It’s unfortunate because Druddigon is promising, just not by comparison. Great vid Woop :)
Hey, thanks! I do feel like Altaria at least is found pretty early on so it gets some chance to shine, but Druddigon is found so late that it's almost worth it to use
Altaria stands out with it's privilege of being an early gen gym leaders strong ace. And it's mega has a really unique typing
Gen5 also has Haxorus as another solo Dragon type Pokemon
2:28 hydro pump!? Wtf she lives in the dry desert. She dosent have the water to spare . Her thirst causes her ability: water absorb
When you battle outside the desert Maractus has spare water due to how efficient it absorbs it. Just make it so it learns it past the desert's levels
@@weepashbp2270 this is til nothing like what cactuses do. It like saying a camel should learn hydro pump, or that a fat human should technically be able squirt a hose out of its mouth
Cacti are super full of water. More than enough.
They make fruit with juice, the inner flesh is super wet and kinda goopy (like aloe)
@@1stCallipostle the reason cacti are full of water is because they evolved to conserve as much as possible to survive over the months it won’t have any water. Squirting it out is simply not something a cactus should do
0:21 JOLTIK AND GALVANTULA SPOTTED!
Druddigon’s Mold Breaker ability does give it a good niche in the lower tiers as a way to set hazards and use other status moves on Magic Bounce Pokemon like Xatu and Espeon.
I love Maractus’s design. Just a happy little cactus.
>Give Maractus one of the most broken setup moves in the game, along with a move that gets stronger the more boosts you have, and moves to counteract the things that would normally counter it.
>”Subtle Additions”
Maractus, Druddigon, Heatmor, Beeheyem, and Stunfisk all deserve evolutions.
Wait people hate Druddigon's design? I always thought it was a nice balance of tough and cute.
True, he's just a goofy guy
I remember seeing a comment on a forum calling it a "math class creation"
Druddigon has style in its design i enjoy the way Druddigon looks good design
Am I the only one who waited for Emolga? 😢
I wasn’t but now that you mention it 😢
I watch your videos for the background/music selection it’s very calming and soothing with your voice, thank you ❤
Glad you enjoy it!
For stunfisk I’d probably not give it levitate as it hides in the ground, I feel like Orthworms ability, earth eater would be more fitting
@7:03
Rock Head would go great with that Head Smash, but I do see the appeal of reduced damage on such a tank.
I think a really cool ability u could give Maractus would be a custom ability called spiked skin. Like rough skin, but instead of damaging, any contact move would remove spikes from Maractus’ body and set a layer of spikes on their side of the field. This would help make this Mon more of a bulky setup Mon that people would have to play around to avoid messing with
0:43: "Since Gen 5 is my personal favorite generation..."
I knew I liked you.
12:42 "boo me for that one"
Durant having truant makes that ability choice's pun GENIUS
I guess I'm just a comedian
Giving heatmore defiant is hilarious😂!!
Had to throw it in there 😉
Honestly I never understood when people hated the “run out of ideas bad designs” one of my favorites to this day is Vanillish.
Vanillite is too cute to hate
You ain't talking shit bout Drudiggon
Drudiggon design is good
Here's some of my ideas for buffs and other changes:
Maractus
+5 Defense +5 Special Defense +5 Speed
- New Ability. Some possible options: Iron Barbs, Heatproof, Soundproof, Dancer, Sand Veil, Sand Rush, Own Tempo
- Water Gun, Scald, Hydro Pump
Stunfisk
Limber -> Water Absorb/Dry Skin/Storm Drain
Druddigon
+15 Defense
Beheeyem
Psychic -> Psychic/Steel
+10 Sp.Atk
Heatmor
Fire -> Fire/Ground
Flash Fire -> Steam Engine
+10 HP +10 Sp.Def -10 Speed
druddigon just needed dragon dance and roost to be effective. let druddigon be the grounded mono dragon hybrid between salamence and garchomp.
Not sure if you play Pokemon Go, but it's funny that is changes my perception of Stunfisk as it's very good in PVP there, especially the Galarian one.
I'd give the Elgyem line the Psychic/Ghost type. Not because they are ghostly, but because alien encounters are told the same hauntingly way as ghost stories, & both Ghost & Dark are evil & manipulative.
Heatmor has the incentive to use it that it is cool and awesome and is my precious little guy :D
I find it funny how Heatmor’s victims (Durant) basically outclass Heatmor in every single way (other than Heatmor’s type advantage). I feel like that is sort of a funny twist of irony.
Fakemon idea-
A grass/water fire hydrant cactus pokemon since like you said cacti can store water and a fire hydrant is kind of shaped like a cactus.
Abilities-
Chlorophyl
Water absorb
Hidden ability-
Flash fire
This pokemon can last twelve months on end without needing water and spends the early morning hours photosynthesizing energy and then returning to a shaded shelter to wait out the harsh midday heat of its desert environment while conserving water.
Give Druddigon Dragon Rush so it has a STAB option that's boosted by Sheer Force
12:44 That joke is awful, i love it
Had to throw it in there
since durant gets truant (true ant), id say it fits the theme :)
@@eepykate JESUS CHRIST That's the reason it gets truant, omg xD
@@YemitaDeHuevo-uk5iq in part, i think its also a reference to the myth that 10%(?) of ants are lazy but i much prefer the true ant interpretation :3 maybe its both tho!
@@eepykate
Most likely is bc of the myth, but I love the pun xD
Scald was added to Gen9 in the DLC as a TM so now the move just has a paywall
@@houndofculann1793 dang every problem they fix they create 2 more
One idea I had in mind for buffing Heatmor is because it’s design and behavior of eating Durant, I can see it being a Fire/Steel type like Heatran.
Those Stunfisk buffs would be way better suited for the Galarian form.
I think it would make more sense to give Stunfisk’s Limber ability with Water Absorb, cause it is a fish weak to water type attacks
8:40 did you say alienated on purpose
😉
Love the changes you made to Maractus but what if we also give it a signature move?
Let’s call it Maraca Shake.
The move would most likely be a grass type (though I thought about it maybe being fairy)
It would deal 75 damage and have a chance to boost its special attack. It’s accuracy would be 100.
I feel like with this move it would play into its name very well.
Please upload more frequently. These videos are some of the best in Pokémon lore and discussion!
Thanks so much! More to come soon :)
i think maractus’ visual design is just as good as cacturne’s
Durant should get Flash Fire for lore reasons
it would be literally seeing the greater scale evoluion the pokemon is designed about
Druddigon only needs one thing: make it available ... let's say the 2nd town.
And Heatmore ... What it needs, is an evolution.
I personally love behyeem and personally would have made it Psychic/Steel. Sense it’s from space
Yeah, I was considering that but I kind of didn't want to have yet another psychic/steel type
I do have a second take on a Stunfisk rework:
1.) I agree with the change to its defences, but keep the special attack aspect. It already has great options in Thunder(bolt) and Earth Power. The Galarian form seems to favor the physical side anyhow, so this would help to keep it unique
2.) Replace Limber with Sand Veil and give it Electric Surge as a new hidden ability instead. Terrain setters are incredibly valuable and it would still tie in to its theme as a trap pokemon
The background music in these videos is great. Please give us a playlist or link 🙏
You have turned Beeheyem from a garbage can who is unusable to a mon that would turn ubers into a playground
Maractus is easily one of my favorite aesthetic designs. It’s sooo cool
Beheeyem will always hold a special place in my heart as the first shiny I ever encountered (not counting red Gyarados)
It's honestly such a subtle yet amazing design. It just sucks that it's found so late in the game
Honestly the buff Beheeyem deserves the most is evolving at an earlier level.
Yeah, it's interesting how Gen 5 kept some Pokemon hidden until the very end. Sadly they usually are too out of the way for you to want to get them
@@PokemonWoop they could probably move some pokemon around to earlier routes. That's what they should be doing especially for earlier gens where a lot of the wild is similar pokemon.
They already gave Fire lash to Centiskorch line which makes great use of it and the Salazzle line for whatever reason
Honestly Beeheyem is sorta underrated. Slow, and only moderately bulky? Yeah. But analytic on its 125 special attack makes it hit harder than even Reuniclus, so it has the most firepower of the psychic types.
I feel like giving it quiver dance would step on liligants toes
I'd make Maractus a Grass/Ground pkmn & only give it sand related Ground type moves.
All your changes apply.
Yes, we are talking Toxic Spikes+ Leech Seed + Sand Tomb tactics.
Honestly, i my opinion, Maractus only needs a descent thematic movepool and been Grass/Ground, never sticked to me that a desert dewling pokemon does not have a typing or ability that grants immunity to the sand storm weather
A thing I got myself thinking: all of the Pokémon shown could be fixed with an evolution.
I used maractus once, out of sheer curiosity. It learns petal dance, so its very good in game. Its really not that bad, just not very interesting. But definitely usable!
I used Druddigon too, that 120 attack is more than enough to confortably breeze through the rest of the game at that point.
If Durant can have truant seemingly only for the pun, then I think that heatmor having defiant for the same reason actually makes total sense
Durant does not have truant just because it’s a pun. Apparently some ants can be lazy.
I think maractus should have sand rush instead of chlorophyll, there are enough grass type chlorophyll pokemon
Calling Telepathy and Gluttony usesless abilities is plain wrong. I understand they might not be a better option for a single playthrough, but for competitive, Telepathy ignores partner’s EQ, and Gluttony makes you eat pinch berries faster, which could be amazing if you take like 70% and then get another chance to live
Do people actually hate Druddigon's design? I love the wretched goober and think he looks sick.
I think adding the Ground type would help Heatmor at least a little bit.
I think heatmor is a really cool design and it would 100% be my playthrough fire type (even with no buffs) if it wasn’t found on fucking victory road
