I certainly didn't have any issues using Toxa in my playthrough, running scald, tspike, toxic, and venoshock. You don't need regenerator in single player because the game throws so many potions at you that you'd think you were playing an indie 'cozy business manager' game

    • @matthewkuscienko4616
      @matthewkuscienko4616 Месяц назад +3

It seems to me that the problem Crabominable has is the same issues that other ice types have: late game encounters more often than not, and having a bad defensive type. The former problem is an issue because by the time you get access to an ice type, you're likely to have a full team of 6 by then, and you may not want to sub one of them out for a new Pokemon -- unless, of course, you KNOW the new Pokemon is REALLY good. As for the typing, I think by now everyone knows how bad ice is defensively, but it's even worse for Crabominable, since it's defensive stats aren't that impressive, and it's also quite slow, and therefore liable to have to take a hit before getting to attack; it's the same problem with Rampardos: being slow, frail, and having a bad defensive typing is an unholy trifecta that makes a Pokemon bad.

There is never a Pokémon-related time when I’m not thinking about Dhelmise because it’s my fave. I do not type multiple paragraphs about it regularly. I don’t have a plan to get a full team of 6 shiny ones in Sword via every encounter method in all three areas of Galar(mainland, Isle of Armor, Crown Tundra) nor am I halfway to completing that goal. I don’t have over 3,000 of them on Pokéfarm, and I also definitely don’t have a whole field of shinies and albinos + a melanistic. I don’t intend to hand-make my own plush because I am too impatient for sitting cuties. I don’t pick it as one of my starters in Pokérogue every time the opportunity arises. It isn’t the only Pokémon I’ve drawn more than 10 times. I am totally not Dhelmise’s #1 fan and defender. You can trust me with the funny seaweed I am soooooo normal

Imagine if the ice type regional variants weren't version exclusive, and if they were placed much, much earlier
Could be really fun to use ingame and it could also teach players how to run weather teams...
...if the abilities that made them useful weren't locked as hidden abilities. This is a crime against game design. There's no excuse to lock the abilities that mons were actually meant to use behind whatever obscure mechanics (which are NOT explained ingame) are needed to get a mon's hidden ability within a given game.
Genuinely one of the worst ideas in Pokemon on par with IVs, EVs requiring items to reassign, and trade evolutions.

So, honorable mention solely for catch odds even though it's not a Gen 7 Pokemon directly: early game Salamence. You have to encounter Bagon in the tall grass on Mele Mele island, then let it SOS for Salamence ... except Bagon is a 1% encounter in the grass it's in, and Salamence is a low odds SOS (I think another 1%, so net .01%) on top of that. However, if you want to put in the work, you can outright have a Salamence before you fight Hala. It's not actually bad, and you can always just take the Bagon and use that until it evolves naturally if you don't want to bother, but it's still funny that you can do it.

Toxapex is one of those pokemon that is phenominal in some game modes, but absolutely awful in a regular playthrough. Max level, ev trained 6x6 singles/doubles it's an incredible pokemon, or for nuzlockes it's a phenominal pivot and pokemon to help hold the line and prevent deaths, but those are vastly different scenarios from a casual/normal playthrough
Togedamaru being one of the worst...this feels a bit harsh-it's limited because of movepool, but in its wheelhouse/niche it's a very, very good pokemon and always helpful to have, though I do agree magneton/magnezone is probably better in general.
Crabrawler...agreed, easily one of the worst in the generation, and all of pokemon really. Crabrawler itself isn't actually that bad in design, but crabominable is legit one of the most hideous pokemon in the franchise, down there with Guzzlord and other stinkers. It being a slow heavy hitter is also a hilariously bad design choice as an ice/fighting type, similar to avalugg being hilariously awful because it's attempting to be a slow physical tank...as an ice type, and with extremely flimsy special defense. Hisuian avalugg is even more laughably bad as ice/rock

I agree on Toxapex, it's too defensive to be that helpful in a regular playthrough. But between it being obnoxious to find, and my usual starter Pokemon for Alola being Popplio, I never found a good reason to prioritize getting it. I still don't think it's bad if you can get your hands on it, and arguably not bad enough to be on a "worst of" list, but it is still pretty outclassed.
The main issue I have with Togedemaru is it's lack of a good steel move -- iron head is FAR superior to gyro ball for something as fast as it is. At least USUM fixed this issue, which is nice. And while Magnezone is probably better overall, lack of steel STAB aside (given we're talking about the non ultra versions), being a faster Pokemon that can afford to tank a hit or two does arguably give it something over it's competition -- rather or not that matters depends on the player
As for Crabominable, yeah, I can fully understand why it's here: it's slow, frail, has a bad defensive typing, and it evolves late, despite being available for pretty much the whole game. It just has nothing going for it, unlike Togedemaru and Toxapex, both of which at least have some kind of redeeming qualities, even if they are arguably not the most ideal choices for a playthrough team

its also worth pointing out that gen 7 (especially Ultra) regularly sets the EVs of boss trainers competitively, meaning mediocre speed (and bulk) will be infinitely more problematic when you can't rely on your own speed EVs to consistently outspeed your opponent.
Contrast this with, say, FRLG, where the majority of opponents aside from the rival and e4 have flat 0s in every IV and EV, meaning your Pokemon with random IVs are just naturally better, even disregarding the badge boosts.

Ignoring the encounter method toxapex CAN hit reasonably in hard in game. Its got the ability just for it. Merciless.

Just a funny little story, i was doing a nuzlocke in ultra moon, getting Pyukumuku as an encounter before the grass trial. Lurantis was sweeping my team, and i sent out Pyukumuku as my 2nd last mon, only for Lurantis to one-shot me, and kill themselves thanks to Innards Out. So if you wanna kill Lurantis easily, do that

My literal favourite pokemon ever is Mareanie and I went out of my way to use it on my first run through moon and I can agree entirely that I never quite got Toxapex to work and it felt really frustrating to have on my team. Specifically I got kinda tricked by it's signature ability merciless, I thought the idea of a guaranteed crit, poison boosted venoshock was the coolest thing ever but with toxapex's weak attack it could rarely OHKO anything which made the set up feel like it wasn't worth it.

Looking multiple Pokémon include Glacion and the MOVE REMINDER behind being able to face the elite 4 is straight up the worst game design I’ve seen in the entire series. There is a single generation from 1-6 that does this kind of crap and coupled with the whack stats of many Alolan Pokémon and the trials which suck and the game beign sooo long is leaves gen 7 as a major let down. It would be one of the best gens in the series but of course Game Freak has to go and ruin it on purpose because they literally are not allowed to at all make a good game. The let’s go games coming right after are a very clear example and is continued through then 8 until Legends Arceus.
And the speed stat of almost every gen 7 Pokémon SUCKS!

Whilst we're talking about Shiinotic, can we also talk about the fact that for some reason, its line is the only non-water type pokemon that can have the hidden ability Rain Dish, that slightly heals HP in the rain? Like why??? I understand the Ludicolo line and even Surskit having it, but Shiinotic? Why???

I played a poison-only run and went to the trouble of getting Toxapex, excepting it to be an awesome addition to my team... and then boxed it because Tentacruel was just better.
